Jake's Power Washing

Jake does not stand behind his work . He power washed , sanded and painted my deck and lt looked great for about a month when the paint he provided started peeling all over the place . He told my to touch up with the half of can of paint he had left over . He bore no responsibility and would not even come to my home to inspect my complaints. We wound up in court and I won . Save yourself the headache and try someone else .

At first, the father (Jake) came out to give an estimate of the power washing for the home, patios and walkways. We walked the entire job and he was very kind and gave a fair priced estimate. He explained that his son Jim (son-in-law i believe) would be out to give an estimate on the re-sanding of the patios and walkways because the hardscaping was his side of the business. When his son came it was like it was an inconvenience. He was sighing and raising his eyebrows. Then he explained he had to go over the numbers with his father because he wasnt good at the business side of things and under estimated me. Later, i got word that the power washing would cost more and the total with the hardscaping aspects. Since i initially liked the father, i moved forward with the job. The power washing was generally good but the entire front side of the patio was missed. The re sanding was a nightmare! 1) The workers were often sitting around on their phones. 2) There were parts of the patio that were slanted because there was not enough sand underneath it. 3) A part of their re-sanding job is to lift up all the bricks in the walkway and patio to add sand to make sure it is level. After they put the bricks back down, the front walkway was and remains not straight. It is curved. Some areas are so tight sand could not get through while other spots have large gaps. 4) I have a brick with a hole on my walkway that is for our fence gate to latch. They placed it backwards. 5) They removed and trashed the plastic edging from our front walkway. My front walkway has a hill and even after I explained to them the bricks would move without the plastic edge, they just put a piece of sod on the side of the walkway. 6) When they did their spring clean up they threw away our firewood that was stacked. They did bring back firewood to replace our that was thrown away. 7) Also note that the communication was horrible. They told us they would come on certain days and didnt show up. Only to give excuses. After expressing concerns, they added a bit more sand to the slanted patio pieces (they are still slanted), and they switched the brick with the hole to correct it. The very next year weeds were growing up between the bricks and the patio pieces (the main reason we wanted them re-sanded and sealed!). They even told us that their sealing would prevent weeds from coming again. We are just disgusted at the money spent for the job they did.

My deck is 12' x 14'. I had it stripped and stained by Jake's. The previous stain was a redwood stain. It was too red and it didn't fit in with the neighbors' decks. Jake's pretreated it and power washed it. They got most of the red off, but there was still some left on the planks and railings which had to be sanded off. The price came in reasonable as was verbally quoted on the phone. There was an additional charge for the sanding which I was made aware of up front, however. I am still glad I had the sanding done. The rest that was not sanded (balusters and framing) covered any remaining redwood stain pretty good even though it's a semi-transparent stain. They use a Sherwin Williams oil based product of your choice. They use a good electric sprayer then go back over and smooth it with a brush. All in all I am pleased with the job and would use them again.
