AJ and his crew were wonderful. AJ responded quickly to my request for an estimate and hIs crew began the work two days later. AJ and his crew arrived promptly each day and completed the work in just two days. AJ and his crew were professional and took care to protect my house from dirt and dust. They exceeded my expectations when they removed lots of old junk and debris from my basement. They took care to leave my basement clean when the job was done. It has rained several times since the work was completed and my basement has been dry! Thanks, AJ and crew!
Description of Work: Installed French drain around perimeter of the basement; dug French drains in two window wells; patched and painted basement walls.

First, let me say I am a little late in writing this review. We called A.J. about an issue we knew when we bought the home, some water penetrating the basement wall near the front of the home. He came out right away, looked at the issue and recommended that they dig down about 4-5 feet on the outside of the home where the water was penetrating to see what was happening and look to solve the problem. His team was there the next day, digging by hand and working as best as possible to not disturb the plantings in the area. They found some potential water penetration problems, sealed them with tar and put the whole area back to the way it looked when they started. They did not leave a mess at all. A.J. even worked with me to help get one of the companies he works with out there that week as well to clean up the inside mold issues where the water had come in. I could not have been more pleased with the work he and his team had done.

A. J. Waterproofing was prompt at coming out to view the job and give an estimate. The estimate process was a much better experience than what I went through with the larger basement waterproofing companies. The day the job was scheduled the crew was on time, worked diligently and left the job site clean. Given the amount of concrete, dirt, stone, and cement that was transported from the basement through the house, the crew did a great job and the final product looks and works great.
Description of Work: Installed a pressure relief system around the perimeter of the basement including a sump pump and well and water driven backup pump.

I called AJ Waterproofing to set up an inspection of dampness in basement of an investment property I just purchased. While many other providers over the phone started throwing ideas like french drainage etc etc...This wonderful lady that answered the phone asked me one question, are you running a dehumidifier to see if it solves your problem as a first line of defense. She mentioned that issue could be amplified since the property has been empty and not "lived in" for about a month and a half now. As a matter of fact, i had just purchased one last night and ran it through the evening and just checking now, problem seems a lot better. The reason I am writing this review is to highlight the honesty and integrity of the person that answered the phone. She could have easily scheduled the appointment, with a sales guy even recommending expensive french drains and even outside drainage work. Instead, she gave me ideas to try to address the issues myself. That level of honesty and integrity should be noted and If all the employees shared such an integrity, then this co. will definitely be the first co. I would call for an honest evaluation and subsequent work

I wanted to wait to review until after it rained. It rained last night, and my basement was dry. Aj was awesome to deal with. Him and his crew were in and out in 2 days. Very clean when finished. He kept me in the loop with pictures so I could see how it was going. We had 3 different quotes for the work we had done, and I'm glad we went with AJ.

If there was an A+ category on Angies List, AJ Waterproofing would be at the top of it. Couldnt be happier with the responsiveness, quality of work and professionalism of AJ and his crew. After we had discovered a leak in our basement, AJ responded the quickest out of the three basement waterproofers we contacted. He went out of his way to visit us at 8am the next day - a Sunday morning (yes, a Sunday morning!!) and after walking us through his suggested repairs, provided us with a very competitve estimate and once we agreed, booked us in for the repairs to be undertaken the very next day (yes, the very next day!!). As a house owner, who has water damage in their basement, this really was almost too good to be true. But AJ delivered!! We are over the moon with the quality of work and even the 'extras' that AJ and his crew went over and above to complete. He kept us informed by texting us photo's of the work being undertaken during the day (as we were at work whilst the work was being undertaken) and called when he needed clarification. Once the work was completed, AJ and his crew left our house spotlessly clean. As a final note, AJ is a real gem of a guy. By far the nicest, most unpretencious and honest contractor I have come across. The quality of work undertaken was fantastic and with very competitve pricing, I cant recommend him highly enough and I know you wont be dissapointed if you give him a call. Thank you AJ - we really appreciate everything you've done.

AJ's estimate was competitive; not too low and not too high. This is good. When I first called to schedule the estimate we had to rearrange the time a little because he did not want to leave another job he was overseeing. Again, this is good. Once we agreed on a price, the contract and followup was immediately provided. I had 2 huge unused oil tanks that needed removal. He was instrumental in connecting me with his trusted parter, helped negotiate a price, and then followed up on his own with me and the contractor to work out a more rapid schedule. (Keep in mind, I was only paying him for the french drains, sump and concrete work.) Again, this is very good. On the day of actual work, he showed up on time with a solid crew. At key points, he alerted me of issues that might affect the neighbor's walkway; this awareness of my and my neighbor's happiness is crucial. AJ is a true craftsman. He CARES about the quality of his work, and went above and beyond to prove himself trustworthy. You won't be disappointed.

Called AJ to get second opinion and quote after having another company come out and told me that I need a french drain in my basement which was very expensive. After providing AJ with the description of my problem he stated that a french drain is an overkill. We spent about 30 minutes talking about what to do about moisture and potential mold problem and how to alleviate it. Even though no actual work was performed, I treat this conversation as a free advice from a professional who isn't just trying to make a buck off of clueless homeowner.

These guys are awesome! They really took good care of our home. In addition to the work defined above, they took the time to build up the soil around are basement egress to correct a grading issue and resealed the the area where the steel stairway of the egress attaches to the house. They also remediated a related issue at the base of the cellar way where there was leaking by filling the area with concrete and making sure water is the area would be diverted via the french drain. I highly recommend them.

We are writing to express our deepest thanks to AJ. From start to finish, AJ had been a pleasure to deal with. Over phone conversations, we were delighted to find that AJ answered every call (even taking calls on a Sunday evening), talking to us at length about the status of our basement, reviewing pictures of the leaks, and discussing how to waterproof the basement. In person, he thoroughly inspected every corner of the interiors of both the finished and unfinished portions of our basement. He then walked us around the exterior perimeter of the house, instructing us on the role that gutters, grading, and sloping of the driveway (among other factors) play in mitigating the likelihood of water penetration into our house. What especially stood out to us is his patience: never once looking at his watch, AJ answered every single one of our questions, and sometimes explained things a second or even third time, as needed for us to understand and feel comfortable with our decisions. At work, he arrived earlier even than his work crew, and left after the last crew member went home. He methodically and cheerfully repaired our basement, paying close attention to both big details (running a French drain and sump pump) as well as little details (caulking around a pipe). In a profession where so many water proofers seem zealous to generate revenue, it is rare to come across an expert who you can trust. AJ has gone above and beyond ?the call of duty? and has exceeded all of our expectations. In so doing, AJ has earned our highest praises! There is absolutely no need for you to shop around ? AJ is your man!

I have to say that as someone who is a manger in municipal government and deals with contractors all the time, I believe this was probably the best experience I've ever had with a contractor. During a torrential downpour after an ice storm, my wife and I discovered that we had water pooling outside one of the windows in the back left corner of the basement. It was seeping down in the foundation and coming through where the concrete floor met the cinder block foundation. A good amount of water was already there and it was about 2-3 inches deep in an area that would probably be the size of a small bedroom. The worst part is that it would not stop! Even after I cleaned it up with a Shop Vac it kept coming. First of all, AJ answered his phone at 10 o'clock at night which is rather impressive in itself. He gave my wife and I some advice on how to slow the infiltration down until he could get there personally. He said he would be there the next day. The next day there was about 8 inches of snow on the ground and I thought there wasn't anyway he'd get there. But he actually showed up in the worst snowstorm of the year. He evaluated the situation, told me what it would require to fix it, and let me know what it would cost. He said he could do it the next day. I received a couple of over-the-phone quotes from other waterproof basement companies and I can tell you AJ was very reasonable compared to the estimate many were giving me. AJ and his crew showed up the following morning and were great. I can't say enough about his crew and how professional and efficient they were. By 2 pm my french drains and sump pump were installed. Now, obviously the most important part is the quality and whether or not everything worked. Well the system has gotten plenty of use in the last week due to snow melt and rain and I can report that the drains and pump are working as designed! This was one of the most stressful situations we've had during our short time as homeowners and AJ really helped alleviate that stress. I want to have some outside work done to reinforce what has been done on the inside and I plan on calling AJ again.

Let me begin by saying how excited I am to be to writing this review for AJ! I interviewed 3 other contractors and all came in around the same price, so here is where AJ set himself apart. He is as genuine as they come. He's a no frills, up front, confident guy who loves what he does. Period. My experience- Called AJ Waterproofing and Caroline, his wife, connected me to him, to which he came out within 30 minutes of initial call. Walked me through exactly what he would be doing and how it would solve the given problem. He states that its a textbook demo/install for his crew and we proceed to schedule the install. He and his crew came out around 8 and were out by 4:30 the same day. Here is where the accolades come- AJ was on the job the entire day with his crew. He got his hands just as dirty as the rest of them. He stays to make sure the job is done the way he wants it performed. He runs a tight, but fair shift. The crew was extremely considerate and clean. They take the extra steps to completely seal the basement off from the whole house with plastic, run paper runners on the floors and down the basement steps and also lay boards across the lawn to respect the lawn and not track in mud. This extra respect for our home resounds with us and we thank AJ for that. Now post job, we had a small hiccup with some of the beaded foam from the original drainage system, ( while jackhammering some got sucked up into the radon mitigation pump,) causing an annoying vibration. This is a no fault of anyone on AJ's team. So, I called AJ to get his advice and he came out within an hour. At that moment, is where he tells me, he wants to make it right, so he would be taking care of any "repairs" to the pump. Called the radon guys, they came out the next day, removed the foam from the motor and it was fixed. The reason I went into that detail, was to commend AJ for his professionalism, responsiveness and accountability to ensure the job is done RIGHT. That series of events alone, will ensure future jobs that need to be done, go exclusively to AJ. I give all of my recommendations to AJ Waterproofing!!

I contacted AM Waterproofing, based upon my Realtor's recommendation, after vetting several other contractors. From beginning to end, working with AJ and his team was a great experience. AJ and I discussed my basement's issues initially over the phone and then he came out to assess the situation himself. He inspected the exterior of the home, then we toured the basement as I identified my issues and concerns. He asked me what my objective was with regard to remediation and then offered me a range of solutions. We discussed pros and cons of each and he provided a wealth of knowledge and perspectives to my many questions. Once I selected my option, he measured and then provided me with a quote. We discussed what was involved in the project and then he wrote up a brief, one-page proposal including the price that was covered by a lifetime, transferrable warranty on the work and an extended 5-year warranty on the sump pump. We started the project within two weeks and AJ and his team arrived on time despite snow and some brutal temperatures. They methodically prepared the site to ensure that my landscaping, driveway, and the interior of my home including my hardwood floors were thoroughly protected. They even went to the extent of installing temporary, plastic "doors and walls" to close off the entrance to my family room and kitchen from any airborne dust; it worked great! As soon as everything was protected in the basement by moving my shelving and stored items to the center of the room near the heater and wrapping it all in plastic, they began the trenching process. The dust was minimized and contained in the basement by their use of a machine that removes the dust from the air. AJ is a hands-on owner and works with his team to accomplish the tasks of the project. During occasional work breaks, he would bring up photos of the ongoing work; e.g. trench, piping, gravel installation etc. and when I had the opportunity to go into the basement, he would "show and tell" various aspects of the project and answer my questions. They accomplished a considerable amount of work during the first day and insured everything was left in proper order before they departed. I toured the basement after their departure and then called AJ with some additional questions, which he thoroughly and professionally answered. They were able to finish the remainder of the project, including a very thorough clean-up by mid-afternoon of the second day. The finishing touches on the slab cement work, contoured window well "floors", and the sealing around wall penetrations was excellently done. The basement walls and floors were thoroughly cleaned/washed and brushed down, the interior protective floor coverings and temp walls carefully removed, and the paver patio and walkways hosed down before their departure. During the entire project, AJ and his team was polite, clean and professional and showed a great deal of respect for my home. They were a hard-working, affable group that worked together well, effectively and efficiently, finishing my project on-time and on-budget. The finished project met all my goals, exceeded my expectations, and left me with a system that fully addressed my waterproofing needs and a basement that is now ready to be turned into an additional living space for the home.
Description of Work: AJ and his team Installed a French drain system for the entire interior perimeter of my basement, the associated sump container and pump connected to the exterior downspout drain, and window well drains tied into the French drain.

AJ and his team did an amazing job! Now I can go and on how happy I am, but one thing I noticed was he 100% cleaned everything up after the job was done. Honestly, it seems as if he was never there! AJ and his crew did an outstanding job. We could not be happier with the final results. Our old damp, dreary basement was transformed into a bright, clean, usable space. AJ started and completed the job on time. AJ and his crew moved everything so the work could be done, and hauled away some unwanted items for us. We were very impressed with the crew's efficient, neat and precise work. The basement was left spotless at the completion of the job. So far so good - we have had no water in the basement. Thank you to AJ and the crew for a great job!
Description of Work: AJ Waterproofing performed all the best practices involved in a proper basement waterproofing job - dug a french drain around the perimeter, laid crushed stone and 3 wall drain pipe, and installed sump pumps. The trench was sealed, outlets put in for dehumidifier drainage, drainage grates were added at the basement opening and one other area that was a chronic problem. The walls were cleaned and parged.

First AJ arrived an hour early which is usually totally fine in my book, unfortunately, I couldn't get there then ended up being 15 min late which in his defense I hate for people to show up late for an appointment. He was very "hurried" and seemed a bit pre-occupied as he walked through the space. I am an active representative for the owner of this building but AJ didn't seem to think that was very important. In a nutshell he told me that we didn't need his services because there were too many issues in other areas with the building as well as the building upkeep was "crappy doo-doo" or something of that nature. The owner of the building/home acquired it in this condition in January 2014. The owner is aware of the ongoing issues that are causing the water and other damages to the building, but wanted to start at waterproofing analysis to start the extensive renovations that will be happening in the Spring of 2015. I guess AJ wasn't interested in the work which is fine, but using some scruples will save reports like this on Angie's List. One of the building tenants who can be very trying sometimes tagged along on the appointment which may have been an annoying factor for him, maybe that bugged AJ, who knows. In the end I asked for his card, primarily to make notes of the experience and file, but when I asked he said "for what?", because we don't need him. The sheer rudeness and absurdity of this comment caught me off guard, and I think he tried to back up like he was kidding telling me it was his last card. I considered that a very poor attempt at a save to the ridiculousness of his comment. Even if you didn't think I was a client, denying me a business card??? Overall, this was one of the rudest experiences I have ever had. I'm not saying this is a bad company service wise, I chose them because of their high rating on Craigslist and great feed back. I hate when companies don't realize their responsibility to act professionally or feel it's ok to be ignorant in the true sense of the word. If you don't want to deal with people hire a salesman or they may want to have his wife meet clients. She was a gem on the phone. Good Morning AJ. Your comments about not needing your services were correct, as they directly reflected what I originally reported. No, this wasn't about your actual services because you never provided any. It was about your professionalism or lack thereof towards me. I think you may be missing the point of my review but you made a good point in your response saying that your negative reviews are from people who didn't use your services. I haven't read those particular reviews but maybe you should figure out if your demeanor changes when you realize that you "won't" be providing a service. I'm not saying that is the case, but maybe you should think carefully about that and the fact that "every" potential customer could be a great potential resource or referral in the future just by the way you treated them, job or not. This is what we all as professionals have to consider....

Response from AJ Waterproofing
Good morning. First off, you did not need waterproofing services at all as I had explained. I am not sure how you felt hurried and I am sorry if you did but I spent over 45 minutes with you, I answered all your questions, and I explained everything to you as we walked around the building that you rent from and went over the inside and I explained thoroughly that your issues were roof/gutter and grading and you said that you had someone to take care of those for you. I answered all of your questions I went over everything with you and explained to you why you did not need my services at all. As far as the business card, you did not need one since you did not need any waterproofing at all and it was the last one on me at that time. This is how I make a living and I would have loved if you had needed waterproofing from me, but you did not. I try to help people and to be honest with them with their waterproofing situations.I have yet to understand why my only negative reviews on Angie's List are from people that do not need my service's and whom I have never done work for. I had three other companies come give me a quote for a basement waterproofing solution, and ended up going with AJ Waterproofing. AJ himself came out for the quote and was very knowledgeable and professional. We did a walk around both inside and outside the house, I showed him the various obstacles he would have to contend with. One of my main concerns with this project would be the "add-on" charges since there was still a good amount of demo and hauling to be done before the drain could be started. AJ gave me a quote of $6800, and said that would be the final cost, no matter what other obstacles we uncovered during the project. This quote included moderate demo, debris removal, the drain itself, a new pit and pump, and a mold remediation spray. A great deal if you ask me. As a bonus, he was able to start in just a few days, and he and his crew took care of all of the prep work that would have cost me time and money otherwise. This included removing an entire old unused bathroom, built-in shelves, and brick/concrete platforms that the previous owner had used to keep things off the floor (no longer necessary now that the basement is dry). The dumpster alone would have cost me $800, but AJ and his crew took care of it for free. They moved everything to the center of the basement (we had a lot of stuff packed up, plus the washer, dryer, file cabinets, etc), covered it with plastic tarp, and taped it off. Not a single mote of dust made it through this barrier, or to the main floor upstairs. A very clean and thorough job. On the first day of the job, I was checking in with AJ and we got to talking about other projects I had going on with the house. (AJ is quite the talker, but he's a great guy, and has some really good stories). I mentioned a small crumbling patio out front that I was going to remove, and patching up my front brick steps, where the mortar had cracked and crumbled with the weather changing. AJ removed the patio and patched the steps, for $20. We got to talking about landscaping and a tree I have out front (AJ is a gardener on the side). He helped me rake leaves and trimmed some dead and low hanging branches, free of charge. What a guy. They were able to finish up the job on day 2. AJ and I did a walk around to make sure everything checked out. He walked me through everything that was done, tested the pump, and everything worked out great. I wrote him a check for $6800, he handed me the paperwork, done deal. (He said he would have been willing to work out a payment schedule, but I was in a position to be able to pay up front.) We've since had a few consecutive days of rain, which would have meant puddles in the basement, and AJ called to follow up with me and make sure everything was working well. I was happy to report the basement was dry, smelling fresh, and ready to be converted into a man cave.
Description of Work: Interior French Drain, full basement perimeter. New sump pit and pump. Demolition and removal of old walls, shelving, etc. Mold remediation spray.

Outstanding service. AJ was thorough, patient, professional, detail-oriented, and wonderful to work with. He charged nothing for his time. We would happily hire him again the future, and we will recommend him to our friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: The owner's son, Anthony, installed a back-up system to our sump pump in July. He was professional and a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately, both the original sump pump and the back-up failed (the floats got stuck). We phoned this morning, said that our basement was flooded, and the owner came to our house within two hours. He spent over an hour determining the source of the flooding problem, shortened the toggle on the float, contacted a company that could dry the basement out, and suggested a couple of possible solutions for the future.

After telling me the job would cost $19,000, he sent me a quote for $20,000. The next day, he called me and the first words out of his mouth were, "You're a Christian, aren't you?" I was flabbergasted. He then told me he "knew" this because he looked at my web site where he saw something that surely meant is was a Christian. This was inappropriate to the point of creepy.

Good afternoon [member name removed]. This is Caroline, A.J's wife and I asked him if I could respond to your letter, since I am the one that made the assumption. I am sorry if in any way we offended you. When you gave us your email address to send you the contract, after the @ was your website address. Clients often, if they have a website, tell us to go and see it. I went on your website and thought your photos were very nice and I said to my husband, I think that [member name removed] is a Christian because of some of the sayings he has posted on the photos. I am sorry if I was mistaken. With that being said, when A.J. called you to see if you had received the contract or had any questions, he asked you that question. He also said you asked why he would assume that, and he explained to you what I have written, that I assumed it from your captions. I also apologize if you felt that I creeped on your website, but it was in your address and since so many clients ask us to go to theirs and look, that is what I did. As far as the price- A.J. gave you a quote for $19,000 and that was for the demo of the basement, full perimeter French Drain, sump pump and the refinishing of the walls, just as he had said, and the other $1000 was to rebuild the cabinets and painting to which the carpenter was going to do. And again, this is why A.J. called you, to see if you had received our contract or if you had any questions. Thank you for your time and we hope your project goes well.

We selected AJ Waterproofing because AJ was the only contractor to address all of our concerns regarding the basement and exterior drainage issues. AJ Waterproofing installed an interior perimeter drainage system, new basin, sump pump and water powered back up in our basement. Also, the yard was graded diverting water away from the house. The crew did everything possible to prevent debris/dust from traveling out of our basement and into the house. AJ and crew were exceptionally professional, respectful, courteous and clean. The job was completed in 3 days as quoted. We've had a couple of significant downpours since the installation. Our basement is dry and we no longer have water sitting in the yard. The drainage system was a great investment, added value to our home and ease of mind. AJ and his team exceeded all our expectations completing the job quickly and efficiently. We really appreciate all the hard work and efforts of this amazing team. Well done!
Description of Work: Installed interior/exterior drainage system.

We got off to a strange started as AJ wanted to start the project I wanted a project scope and estimate. We agreed on a limited initial task at a fair price. Once AJ was at our house, he quickly scoped the problems and provided a fair price to complete. As additional issues arose as we open the walls we agreed on cost and he proceeded quickly and responsively. His sub-contractors were equally as efficient and timely..
Description of Work: Repaired a clogged Dutch Drain after after we had some water damage in our basement. The project required the removal of the walls Sheetrock and and excavating the cement floor half way around the basement. New drain pipes were laid, window well drains installed and and utility room walls sealed. The project was complicated by metal studs,a utility sink and bathroom shower that need to be worked around..

Thank you for the job [member name removed]. Just so people who may read this are aware, it is a French Drain and not a Dutch Drain. Also, you refer us as having sub-contractors, but it was my son Anthony who came back to paint your walls. Again, we thank you for the work and if you have any questions please give us a call. A.J.

From the initial contact through completion of the work. AJ waterproofing exceeded all expectations I had for basment waterproofing. We initially called as we could not understand why our basment was getting water when we were told the system installed was recent. After experiencing water issues in our last house I immediately ran all downspouts away from the house. This helped but did not solve the issue. This is when I called AJ. I wanted to call a local company I could trust to stand behind the work. After reading several reviews on AL I made the call. AJ not only returned my call quickly he also came out personally. AJ provided details to us without the fluff on what our issue was. He also offered a ton of excellent advice to us as we are new to the area and we are just buying the house with the Basment problems. AJ took the time to explain why the system we had was failing. He also advised us we should call at a minimum 3 companies for a quote which we did. After having two other major companies in to provide a quote it was clear to me AJ was the only call I needed. AJ got the work scheduled and complted quickly. After day one of the work our basment no longer had the musty smell and we knew how far down the new system went. Just think about how messy breaking concrete and digging out would be. AJ and his crew were professional, curtious and one of the cleanest contractors I have ever had work done by. once complete I could not belive how fantastic of a job AJ and his crew did. Thank you again for the excellent work.
Description of Work: Replace and reinstall French drain system as well as dual sump pits and pumps.

After we saw so many positive reviews of AJ Waterproofing on Angie's List, we decided to call for an estimate. We contacted the company in late July and got an appointment with AJ, the owner, right away. After examining our basement and giving us an estimate, he encouraged us to get estimates for the same work from other contractors to cost compare. Although we took several weeks to decide, AJ never bugged us with annoying follow up calls, like some contractors. We were impressed with AJ,s professional, yet friendly demeanor, and with his knowledge of all types of basement waterproofing problems. He seemed to clearly understand what our problems were, and he was confident that he could resolve all our basement waterproofing issues once and for all. We contracted AJ on September 11, 2014 to do the work, which he stated would be done in one day -- and it was! AJ's crew arrived promptly, were professional, friendly, patient, and hard working. The crew was also mindful of moving and protecting our possessions during the job. When AJ arrived a few hours later, he and his crew were more than willing to take care of a few additional minor requests, at no additional charge. After doing a great job of cleaning up the area when they were done, Juan, the crew foreman, asked if we had any questions, and was happy to answer all our queries. We were extremely impressed by AJ,s integrity and honesty when he discouraged us from spending money on extra work that was initially discussed but that he felt was unnecessary after the completion of the job. AJ Waterproofing provides a lifetime guarantee on its work, and AJ assured us that if we had any problems he would return and addressed them. It was a pleasure doing business with AJ Waterproofing and we would highly recommend them.
