My generator had completely died. It is a 17KW Generac Generator. It took them several days to get back to me. They inspected the unit, did some troubleshooting, then replaced the battery. Tony, the gentleman who did the work, stated that the battery died. The generator was working when he left. The cost was $492.87. It kicked on as expected on October 9th, it is set to turn on weekly and run for 12 minutes. I believe it may have run again on the 16th, but when I took a look at the generator again that day, none of the lights on the generator were lit. It was totally dead, the same state it was in before Clearfield Electric did the work. I called and left a message at Clearfield Electric on the 20th describing what happened and requesting they come back out to fix it. I didn't hear back from them on the 21st or the 22nd. Finally, on the evening of the 23rd, I received a call back from Geri in the office who said that she cannot say when they will be out, but I am on a repair list. I asked if she could even give me a vague estimate on when they could come out to fix it, she said they could not. I waited as long as I could before calling someone else, but I finally did. A gentleman from McDowell Electric came out and inspected the unit. He brought a $50 generator maintenance kit with him. He used that, charged the battery, and left the machine in working order. All for $115.25. What I would like back from Clearfield Electric is the markup on the battery and the $60.00 labor charged by Tony since his work did not correct the issue. The battery, which they charged $202.87 dollars for, is a NAPA Legend Battery. It is a regular truck battery and I could have purchased the same battery myself at NAPA for $114.00.
Description of Work: I called them for repair/maintenance of a Generac Generator.

Response from Clearfield Electric Inc
[member name removed] called our company Clearfield Electric, Inc. on September 9, 2013. And said he had an outfit from St. College install a 17kw generator 2 years ago Sept. 2hd. He stated that it is out of warranty now, and he did not want the company that installed it do the work but was looking for another company to service it. He said the yellow light came on indicating it needs oil and filter change and check up. We were hesitant about doing work for him since we did not do the installation of the generator, and also that he did not want the installing company to do the service. On October 4, 2013 (and not October 7, as his letter stated) our technician (Tony) went to the residence to troubleshoot and service the generator. After troubleshooting the generator and testing the battery Tony found the battery to be defective. At that time he replaced the battery, performed the annual preventative maintenance (change fluids, filters, spark plugs, measure and test generator output, test operation of transfer switch, etc.) and placed the unit back into service. As [member name removed] stated the generator was working when Tony left and continued to run in the weeks following. If Tony would not have corrected the problem at hand the generator would not have turned on for its weekly exercises. We did not hear from [member name removed] again until Sunday, October 20: [member name removed] called 3 times on Sunday Oct. 20. Then on Monday morning Oct. 21 his wife called and talked to my secretary and told her that he is a very nervous person. My secretary assured her they were added to our schedule and would be called before a tech would be sent out. Since my secretary doesn’t make up the scheduling she had no way of giving her a definite date or time. We are booked 3 to 5 weeks in advance year round; also we do receive a considerable amount of emergency calls which we consider a priority, we do make our best attempts to accommodate situations such as [member name removed]. When we contacted [member name removed] that week to let him know a tech. would be there, he stated that he had already got the problem fixed. In response to the desire resolution: I don’t believe [member name removed] is entitled to a refund because my company did fix the problem, I cannot be liable for the unit developing other problems in the future. If something would have gone wrong with the repairs my tech made or parts that we replaced we would definitely warrant them. As far as overcharging for a battery it is industry standard to mark up materials in order to cover overhead (travel time to and from the job site, fuel, etc.). [member name removed] failed to mention that it is a 40 minute drive to his house one way, and we did not charge any fuel surcharge, travel time or mileage on his bill.

About half of my electrical work is done and it is a mess. They were called in to do and we were familiar with several employees of the company and the owner and they are local so of course we wanted to keep our work local and they were called in to do and the owner had told me it was time immaterial job because we are doing it in older house as it was built in 1950s part of the wiring was updated and part of it wasn't, but there was no way to know of course within the walls and to know where the update works so they came into do work and I was quoted a possibility of going up to $5000 for the whole rewiring I was okay with that, but then when they came in the panel boxes did not need to replace or the braker and some of the wiring was updated and they spent several weeks, they were off days and didn't let us know when they were coming. I would call and I hear they are coming today oh no there is somewhere else and that sort of thing. They didn't give me a schedule. The only way we knew that we didn't show up and we did give him a $4000 deposit initially hoping that would come close to covering the job and it just not done and there is like not one room in the whole house is completely rewired in the network and they started their wiring on attic first considering what they didn't have to do especially the breakers and the panel boxes and so and then when we had the light problem the fixture wasn't working in our kitchen and when we pulled the tiled down on our kitchen ceiling and we couldn't figure it out and I am not an electrician and they said that they would charge us and when they came they said that is not our wire we won't touch it, but when Bloom came to look at it one of the boxes the wires not tight and wire had come apart so that is why the kitchen light didn't work even though they didn't rewire the kitchen light and they refused to touch it because we refused to pay more. It would not use them again.
Description of Work: I used Clearfield Electric initially in February of last year and it has been an ongoing dispute. They were supposed to rewire everything, update my entire electric in my house.
