We set up a loose appointment for an estimate on 3/19-no show. We set up another loose appointment for an estimate on 3/24 but it rained and I received a call stating that we'd reschedule. The rescheduled appointment was loosely scheduled for 4/1 --no call, no show.

Gene gave me an estimate the same day I contacted him. He did the job a week later showing up when he said he would. He and his coworker spent 5 hours or so working steady until the job was completed. They were thorough and cleaned up after themselves. Gene did not accept payment until the end when I had my walk through.

I felt like this was a large job for Gene but he handled everything very professionally. There were a lot of weather related issues that delayed the job so it took 6 weeks to finish everything but I'm Gene was more frustrated than I was. Gene was exceptional in cleaning everything up everyday after finishing work. His pricing was extremely reasonable. Most importantly, for the first time in 10 years, my backyard is dry the day after it rains....it used to take DAYS for it to dry out. I wouldn't hesitate to contact him again for more work....and he still needs to come and rebuild a retaining wall along my driveway.

Gene responded to my request for an estimate within 5 hrs. of my call. His quote was fair. I scheduled the service for the following day. The work was done completely & timely.

Met me right away & cut down & hauled everything away same day as I called. Very exceptional service.

Gene exceeded all expectations on every level. His professionalism, knowledge, and personal commitment to his work was impressive. Gene has the equipment and team to handle any job, big or small. We look forward to calling on him again.

We did not have any services provided. This was agreed by both parties. Since the service was not provided there is nothing more to say

On 9/26/14, Gene sent me this very courteous email message: "hi carol please contact my office directly, and leave a brief description of the work that needs to be done, along with a good contact number to reach you...7247191065 thank you for your buisness looking forward to speaking with you" I followed up and called his office on 9/29/14. "Hi carol, I will b contacting you. Tom for scheduling" (GENE'S RESPONSE 10/2/14) Ok--thanks Gene! (MY RESPONSE 10/3/14) "Hi carol, weve been trying to get to everyone and get them scheduled, and I apologize that I haven't contacted you yet...I am taking tom off and will get you on the schedule...thank you for your patience" (GENE'S RESPONSE 10/6/14) "Any progress on our scheduling?" (MY RESPONSE 10/21/14) "Yes how does this thursday or Fri sound?" (GENE'S RESPONSE 11/8/14) "Thursday is great." (MY RESPONSE 11/10/14) "Gene--Will you be here tomorrow?" (MY INQUIRY 11/12/14) "hi Carol please contact me on my personal cell phone number at 7247198592.thank you for your patience and we will get to you as soon as possible I have an opening for Monday and Tuesday now" (GENE'S RESPONSE 11/14/14) I then called his cellphone and requested the following Tuesday, but Gene never called or showed to do the job I paid him for. Winter set in and, once again, I did not hear back from him. On April 2, 2015 I sent him the following email message: "DEAR GENE: STILL WAITING FOR A CALL BACK FROM YOU AND COMPLETION OF JOB I PAID FOR IN SEPTEMBER!!! SINCERELY, CAROL" Once again--no response . . . So this week I phoned his cellphone, expressing my extreme frustration and anger at his failure to respond to my inquiries and complete the work I paid him to do last September. GENE DID NOT CALL BACK!! I have never had this happen to me the other 9 times I purchased Angie's List Deals. WOULD YOU HIRE GENE TO DO ANY WORK FOR YOU??

It looks great and was just as we asked. They cleaned up and carted away all of the old limbs. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

Need large fountain tree on lot pruned, accepted and paid for Big Deal for work to be performed by Gene's, It took a few days to get response as I have other work needed and questioned additional cost/can it be done. Received email 2 days later that my location is too far for the service provider to travel. Payment had already been drafted from my account, but was quickly returned. He was very professional in communications regarding this problem.

. Purchased a Big Deal of $199 for $400 worth of tree service. Initial response was good, Gene called right away and said that he is quite far away from me and asked for pictures. I have two projects: one a cherry tree and one to grind a stump. Each in my opinion would have qualify for a big deal offer. Gene said over the phone that the stump would probably qualify for the big deal. Then he disappeared. A month later after my calls and talks to his scheduler, he showed up but he didn't bring a stump grinder. Then he said that the cherry tree would be $800 and the stump would be $700 and therefore more than a big deal. He complained that he spent $100 on fuel to drive his truck this far but came unprepared for a stump removal. He left and I had to go through h*** with Angies list to get my money back because it was already outside 30-day money back guarantee window. Guess what, another stump remover removed the stump three weeks later. The price was $400, i have an invoice. The company is called Down & Out Tree service. Excellent job and right on the money.

Because Gene was swamped with responses to his Angie's List deal offer, it took a while to get scheduled. Gene stopped the week before doing the job to determine what needed to be done when he came to do the work. He asked that I be present. Gene checked with me throughout the process to be sure he was making cuts that I was satisfied with. He and his worker cleaned up as they went. They even went so far as to rake some leaves around the smaller trees that hadn't been raked yet. He and his employee were attentive to detail, personable and easy to work with. He made it clear that each customer has their own preferences and he wanted to do the job to my specifications. I will be calling him in the spring to check three other trees that have some disease issues. I

It was an Angie's List Big Deal. It took him a long time to get to me because I guess he was very busy, but he did a good job. He cleaned up very well. I had to call several times because he just said he was backed up. He had so many customers. I had to pay extra because they said that the one tree that he cut down was a $400 job so I paid him another hundred. It took him very long but once he was here, he worked steadily in. His punctuality was fine.

Gene's Tree & Landscaping has not performed any tree removal or tree cutting for the past month. We did talk again about a week ago, and Gene said that Tuesday or Thursday were good this week. I waited around the house Tuesday and today and have not seen or heard from him. I no longer request his service.

I scheduled an appointment with him on 11/14/14 and took full day off of work, then he no call no showed on our appointment. I called twice and left voice messages. I finally did get a call from his secretary around 4:30 but I couldn't hardly hear her due to a noise in the back round. She seemed to give a reason for why he didn't show up but I couldn't understand her. She did say he would call me back. Now 3 days later I still have not heard from him.

I bought a big deal -$199.00- through Angies List. Gene called twice to say he would be out to our place soon. His secretary called with noisy kids in the background to say h'ed be out that week. He gave me about three different excuses as to why he hadn't called to schedule. Gene was a no-call, no-show. My patience was not rewarded as I was two days late to request a refund and they did NOT give me my refund. I tried to trade big deals with Angie's List representative Kelly Smith and she did not answer emails-my email is working just fine- when I told her I would contact her supervisor if I didn't get a response from her, she gave me her personal telephone exchange and has NOT answered two of my phone calls to date. Genes Tree Service Grade F. Angies List Grade F. I still want my money refunded. There is really not a deal I want now. I found out from Kelly that Gene will be getting my $199.00 on schedule. Sounds like a racket to me. Approximately ten phone calls later, I still have no service.

Excellent. Gene very professional and staff are all hard working. Cleaned up work area well. Very courteous and prompt.

Signed up for a $199.00 deal to have some trees trimmed. Gene called on Friday and told me his secretary would call me on Monday to set up a time for them to do the work. No one ever called. I called again and Gene told me they were overwhelmed and would get to me as soon as possible. A week went by and I called and left a message. That's the last communication I've had with Gene. I have absolutely no confidence that I'll get what I paid for. ..

I received an Angie's List acknowledgement from Gene's Tree and Landscaping. Then heard nothing for 2 weeks. I followed with a phone call to them and eventually spoke with Gene. He said he would call and stop by the next day to view the work to be done. That was the last I heard from him. I sent two more messages via Angie's List and followed up with another phone call to no avail. While I understand he was overwhelmed with customers from The Big Deal, I cannot feel comfortable that he will ever follow up with the service. I have prepaid $200.00 for a service I have no confidence in receiving. That is why I joined Angie's List - to avoid dicey contractors. I have requested a refund.

He confirmed that he would be coming on the 21st through email and phone. I asked him to confirm the specific time on the 20th, which he didn't do. He never showed up. I couldn't even leave a message because his voice mail box is full.

I have called the provider many times leaving my contact information and have not gotten any of my calls returned. This has caused me to request a refund for the Big Deal purchase.

Took long time for gene to get in touch with us on phone. Gene didn't show up at scheduled appt and didn't call at any point to explain or reschedule. We found other service provider to accommodate us. Thanks for refunding the $199.

I was contacted by Gene as soon as I made the initial purchase, and then....nothing. Multiple calls, e-mails, and messages through Angie's List went unanswered. Absolutely no response.

Due to the overwhelming response from the Big Deal, it was difficult to get timely responses from the company. But once we did get to speak to someone, we got a date scheduled pretty quickly. They were a few hours late but did call to say that they would be late. I was getting concerned with how things were going however that immediately changed once the team arrived. They were so nice, very professional and went right to work. They were done quickly and did a great job. I would use them again. I have a feeling that they're a small family business that just wasn't prepared for the number of people taking advantage of the Big Deal. Give them a chance, I think you'll be happy you did.
