Town and country performed a local move for me. The crew was excellent! They were professional and conscientious, taking care when moving my things. As a team, the guys worked well together and they had a good working relationship which made the move fun. It could not have gone better.

After 20 years of military moves, this was the second on our own dime. T&C's estimator was very professional and the most informative of the four moving companies we spoke with. He agreed to a binding estimate after a second visit to the house. We also wanted our items unpacked; we learned in years of military moves that this works better for us than opening many boxes for days or weeks. On packing day, 5 packers arrived as promised, worked quickly, and left before 4:00 pm. On loading day, 6 loaders arrived as promised and finished the job before 5:00 pm. On delivery day, only 3 deliverymen arrived. They had requested more helpers but were turned down by the company. The temperature was in the 90s, and it took 3 young men, working steadily with no lunch break, 9 hours to unload the trucks, and they finished unpacking at about 9:00 pm. They did an outstanding job, but it was brutal work, and it didn't have to be. There were supposed to be 5 on the delivery truck--even 4 people would have been a big improvement. They had to move items from one 3-story house to another, and we have many books. So the last day was unnecessarily long and exhausting.

We had used them in the past. We used them a second time when we moved from Virginia to Ohio. I really like them. They are incredibly thorough with their packing, everything was labeled, and they didn't loose a single box. Only two Christmas ornaments were smashed and I don't even know if they did that or they were smashed other sometime. Everything else came in perfect condition: nothing was chipped or scratched. They are very, very fast. They had our whole house done in a couple of hours. They give you a binding estimate, so there is no surprises at the end. It is a very, very professional company.

When we hired this company just to move some big pieces of furniture, I thought we were hiring moving professionals. the crew was one guy with experience and two high school/college kids. The lead guy had his cell phone in his pocket the whole time playing loud music. When we got to our new home, I asked the driver to take his time backing up our ~600 ft driveway because it was new and if he drove off the edge it would crack. Neither of the two guys got out of the truck to help guide him. He drove off the edge, cracked it and tore up our new sod. Moving in the furniture they put holes in the wall carrying in furniture and marked up the steps. They also put scratches in our dining room table and chairs. After they left I noticed our 55” LED TV was bent after they had charged me extra for wrapping the TV. In my opinion, the three guys were careless and had no respect for our property. It seemed like they just wanted to get done. The next day, I called the owner and he came over to inspect the damage. I did not have a good interaction with the owner. His solution was that he would fix everything. After building a custom built home and the work his crew did moving us, I was not interested in having him do any work on our home. . Fortunately, I bought insurance. I had to file a claim to repair the driveway, the holes in the wall, the scratches in the dining room table/chairs, and a new TV. The move cost around $1000, the claim I submitted and paid was for close to $4000.

I had a very small move which didn't even fill half the truck. I was very impressed that Mike came over and gave the initial estimate. I had to do all the packing and they would move the furniture and the boxes I packed. The day of the move the guys showed up early which was great. There were 3 men. What they don't tell you is that they refuse to move any liquids. This meant that the entire contents of my bathroom boxes were not moved. I did A LOT of it by myself. They would see what was written on the box and then refuse to move it if it air freshener even. I'mglad that I arranged for my children to not be there as they swore a lot. Also, when I got to the house where I was moving to, they did not put everything back together. They put most things back together, but left a few things for me to do (for example, mirror on my dresser). My bill ended up being over a hundred dollars more than he estimated.

Town and Country showed up quickly and promptly to give me an estimate. The price was slightly higher than I was expecting but everything was extremely professional and I liked them a lot. I decided to go with them. Then they sent me the contract, which stated that even if you bought the full replacement value insurance they were not responsible in any way in any circumstances for any damage for items that they did not pack, move, and unpack. We weren't hiring them to unpack, so that meant that anything they packed and moved and broke would not be their problem. (This includes ridiculous things like if they drove the truck over some boxes, they weren't responsible.) I discussed my discomfort with the clause with them. They indicated that they would not change the clause in the contract and that if I saw a box that looked damaged I should unpack it before they left with the driver present. Well, there were going to be 4 movers and 1 of me. I can't watch what all of them do, so I won't know if they drop a box down the stairs or it falls in the truck. I also wouldn't necessarily see a damaged box that they put in my new house, since I'm not following all 4 of them all over the place. I also was not going to continue paying their hourly rate to unpack any questionable boxes. I called to cancel the move. They accepted my cancellation without penalty and were courteous. 4 of my neighbors used Town & Country and none had any damage. They said they would 'make right' any damages, but refused to remove a clause from their contract that explicitly stated the opposite. I've been burned enough times with things like that before. So I decided to go with another mover. Maybe it would have been fine, I just won't take the chance. In the end, I got a rate that was 25% less than T&C (who included no additional insurance) with full replacement insurance from Lee's Moving.

Response from Town & Country Moving & Storage
By definition, a customer is someone who purchases goods or services from someone in exchange for compensation. This is not Town & Country's customer. We would have liked him to be, but he chose not to be. We use language in our contract that is standard in the industry. The practice of the moving company to have to pack, move, and unpack boxed goods for the coverage to be honored is set forth by the American Moving and Storage Association, not by the whim of Town & Country Moving. The reason being, who can say when an item was damaged if the moving company did not pack it, move it, and unpack it. If another moving company decided to waive this protection, sure it is their rite, but it is not Town & Country's obligation to do the same. The clause that the potential customer contested was furnished to him ahead of time and required his signature. The potential customer chose not to use Town & Country. Therefore, this is not Town & Country's customer. So how does Town & Country suffer when it followed the approved practice of the AMSA and satisfied the moving needs of the complaintants four neighbors.

Forgive me but I can't remember the team members who helped us, but they were fabulous. They were so careful with our possessions and nothing was too much trouble. We had some glass that needed to be boxed and some antiques that had to be carefully padded. Everything arrived at our new home in the condition it left the old one (I can NOT say the same for other moves I've made with other moving companies.) We got an estimate prior to arranging the move and since it was done via a walk-through of our home, it was right on target. The amount the estimated was the amount we paid. No surprises. We would definitely use them again and have recommended them several times to other friends who are moving.

The Town and Country guys were right on time, professional, and very courteous. They were careful with our items and were helpful when I needed help moving something myself. The move itself, when they finally showed up, was fine. The movers were professional and very careful to avoid damaging the furniture or the wall. Unfortunately, they bumped us twice before showing up. The move was scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26th. The day before, they called and said they had to reschedule for Saturday, Feb. 27th. On the 26th, they called and said they couldn't do it until Monday, March 1st. I explained that it had to happen on Saturday since the lease on the Thorndale apartment was up on the 28th. Their response was essentially "tough luck." As a result, the property manager has refused to return the security deposit. Although Town & Country blamed the delay on the weather, I called other companies and they were working on both Friday and Saturday. I suspect they got a larger job and bumped us.

Response from Town & Country Moving & Storage
There was a snow storm on the Friday and Saturday in question. Rather than just not show up on the day of the move, we rescheduled all work in advance of those days to not cause any of our customers an inconvenience. Other customers who were contacted in the same way appreciated this. Historically, our customers prefer to not have their goods moved in the rain and especially snow as moisture is not good for furniture finishes. Did other moving companies work that day? Maybe. Were they doing internal moves that would not expose their customers' goods to the elements? Quite possible Town & Country DEFINITELY did not schedule other "larger jobs" to replace this customers..

The crew was on time and tireless. All the individuals from Mike to Teri in the office, to the moving crew were professional and courteous. We had received an estimate from a competitor which was lower on an hourly basis and Mike matched that. There was no scratching or breakage, and the staff even helped my wife to move some things around in the placement that she wanted. The move took a little longer than the estimate, but I was prepared for that because I thought Mike cut it very tight from a time standpoint. Overall, I was extremely happy and would use them again.
Description of Work: We had a short move involving a visit to a storage company, a pickup there, then a pickup in one place and delivery to another, both in West Chester/Exton area. Our furniture is very heavy and they had to take it around corners and up and down stairs with tight corners.

They were very responsive in getting back to me after our initial request to have them come out and perform an estimate. Mike, one of the owners, came out to our home-he was punctual and very polite and professional. He walked us through the estimate, Town & Country's moving-day processes and answered all of the questions we had. We had been concerned about Town & Country's reputation, as only one Angie's List report existed prior to us contacting Town & Country. Mike brought along 10 glowing letters of reference; although we understand Town & Country selects only good references, we were glad to see so many current and positive experiences. Price-wise, Town & Country was in the middle of the three estimates we received; we did select a company with a lower estimate due to their lower price, price maximum guarantee and good references. However, we would not hesitate to contact Town & Country again for our future moving needs.
Description of Work: We contacted Town & Country to estimate our move from Coatesville to Kennett Square, PA (two-story plus basement to one-story plus basement move). Move was to be a single-day (no storage of items), loading/delivery only (no packing or unpacking) and was estimated to be 10,200 lbs. Estimate was produced after a room-by-room walk-through of our house, and was produced on the spot while still on our premises.

Overall, I have mixed feelings about the job. Town and Country was not my first choice, but they were able to do the job on short notice. The price was reasonable for what we had moved, but more expensive than the previous mover. The responsiveness of the company was great. They returned all phone calls quickly and responded to a complaint quickly. Their professionalism was top notch. Every single person I talked with, from office staff to the movers, were professional, friendly, and helpful. Promptness was fine. The thing I was not happy with was the quality of the work. I fully understand that during a move things may get damaged, scratched, or dented. However, I did not think that there would be the amount of scratches and dents that I encountered. A mirror was broken on my Armour, our bedroom dresser had a broken drawer, paneling was pulled away, and numerous marks were on our furniture. While I may be picky here, I received better service in the past from another mover.
Description of Work: This company moved about 5000 lbs. worth of our furniture and belongings to their storage facility. They then moved the load to our new home approximately six weeks later. The move to our home was much smoother than the move out and the storage.
