It went fantastic! The team was very responsive, following up almost immediately. Due to my location, they were able to work my job in even before the projected time which was only a week or two out. They had the job completed within a few days of my call. The trees look better and safer, and I no longer have to think twice about the safety of the swing. It's not cheap work, but my 'peace of mind' is priceless now.
Description of Work: I had large dead branches removed from six cherry trees in my backyard. Those deemed 'widow makers'. I also had a metal suspension support placed to ensure a limb that has a swing hanging from it remains secure even potentially a decade from now when the branch dies. All cut wood was removed and the yard was free of debris.

They left some weird branch sticking out of one of the spruce trees. They left the apple tree partially pruned. They got stuck in my back yard and created ruts in the yard that are now a huge problem. I had them come back to finish pruning the apple tree and remove the spruce tree branch. They filled some of the ruts with soil and sprinkled some grass seed. They are supposed to be the experts. Never once did they look around and make recommendations about what should and shouldn't be done. Since I'm in central PA, I guess I'll call some Amish people to do the job the right way.
Description of Work: I had them come in and trim a couple of spruce trees up to ten feet as well as trim an apple tree back to blooming size.

Thank you so much for your high marks in responsiveness and punctuality. We appreciate this very much. The evergreen tree as noted in your included photo was elevated 10 feet above the ground at the drip line as per your quote. Our staff did indeed leave a large limb that looked out of place, as shown on your photo. We were grateful for your call bringing this to our attention and when we consulted with the arborist who serviced your trees, he told us that he used his professional judgment and choose not to remove it on the first visit because he felt that it would leave a large hole in the crown. This arborist has been on staff with us for 6 years and holds a degree in Forestry. His decision was based on his professional opinion, however we agree it was not an aesthetically pleasing choice, so we made a return visit at no additional charge to remove that limb. And yes, we agree with you that it should've been removed, so we were happy to oblige your request. With regard to the apple tree in your second picture. Apple trees, or rather any fruit bearing tree, can be pruned one of two ways. One method of pruning is for fruit production and the second method would be for aesthetics. The arborist who pruned this tree has been on staff with us for less than one year and also holds a degree in Forestry. When you contacted our sales staff regarding this pruning, he too agreed that the pruning did not appear elegant, graceful or pleasing, and we addressed this issue on our return visit sending an arborist who has more finesse in pruning this type of tree to give you the desired end result. I will reiterate that we did not charge for this return visit and we agreed with your requests. Tree pruning is very subjective work and after 39 years in business, we are very accustomed to having a few clients call and request a return visit to provide additional pruning. We don't blink an eye at these types of requests because our staff are trained to err on the side of conservative pruning, as opposed to over pruning. It is always practical to return and provide additional pruning than risk cutting off too much, especially since trees are living organisms, so once the cut has been made, there is no re-attaching of the limbs. With regard to the truck getting stuck in the yard. You are right. It was a terribly unfortunate thing to happen. We did return and add topsoil and seed the the areas where the rutting occurred at no cost to you. The crew foreman who is ultimately responsible for the decision received a written notice in his personal file noting the incident and corrective measures. When our crew completed the additional pruning and the lawn repair on May 1, 2017, our foreman noted that before departing your property he spoke with you and noted that you were satisfied and that the trees looked great. It is our hope, that you can understand from our end we did handle your job with a great degree of professionalism. Although, not perfect, we have made every attempt to treat both you and your property with great respect and care. You have had the opportunity to work with professional staff through the entire process, who did not disagree with you or attempt to walk away from any mistakes, but on the contrary choose to own up and work through the difficulties, even opting to include a review form with our invoice. We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you and if you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to us.

Price was reasonable. They left the stump grinding lay for us to clean up to decrease the price, but the grindings were in a neat pile and easy to clean. From the time I called to the tree being removed was less that 10 days.
Description of Work: Storm damaged Leyland Cypress cut down completely. Removed resultant wood, brush and debris. They grounded out the stump and left a hole for us to plant a new tree.

Our estimator looked at this job with Mr L. Mrs L was not present. We did the job on 3/8/17 and it entailed the removal of a blown over spruce tree and it's stump. Mr L said the wood chips could be blown into the mulched area in the front yard. When the discussion turned to the stump, the estimator asked if we should leave the stump mulch there or remove it. Mr. L said the stump mulch could be moved to the mulched area also. Mrs L called us back on 3/28/17 wanting to discuss the job with someone. Please note this is 20 days after the date of our service. Our manager called her back on that same day at 1:06 pm to discuss. She said the guys left large debris and rocks behind. Our manager explained that the job was sold for us to leave the grindings behind. She didn't think of them as grindings as some of them were as large as a Frisbee. Our manager explained that the size, shape, and consistency of stump grindings is different from one type of tree to another and a blown over, uprooted, stump is more apt to create larger chunks of debris. The rocks are a result of working in White "Rock" Acres. You cannot grind a stump without digging out or grinding rocks. Mrs L stated that she would have to struggle to clean up the mess. Our manager offered to return and clean up the debris noting, that we would need to charge for the clean up service, since the job had not been previously estimated with this option. Mrs. L declined the chargeable return visit. We apologize for any misinterpretation of the term stump "mulch" when our estimator discussed stump grinding. We have now asked that our estimator refrain from using the term "mulch" and use the word "grindings". Again we apologize for any misunderstanding regarding this matter.

They got rid of a lot of old, dead branches and reshaped the trees. One of the trees was hanging over our neighbor's fence, and so they helped take some of the branches off the neighbor's shed, and that was a big help! They knew exactly what they needed to do, I didn't need to supervise, worry about, or watch them. They had two guys on the team, one who was up on the tree and one down below taking care of all the branches; they were very careful about not dropping heavy branches on some of my special bushes. They cleaned up everything after themselves; they didn't waste a lot of time smoking cigarettes or standing around doing nothing, they just kept working for four hours straight-they were a delight to watch!

George was great - he came out at a convenient time, walked around my property, and discussed every tree, bush, and shrub, offering information and suggestions for each. Friendly, efficient, no pressure, lots of options. He answered all my questions. On the date of service his crew came out and did a fantastic job. I was particularly impressed with the cleanup. Price was right in-line with the estimate - I would definitely hire CV Tree Service again.
