James and his crew arrived at 7:30 AM, after my husband and I had left for work. He called me whenever any questions came up, and to let me know that they had finished at around 1 PM. The backyard looks amazing, and the work was accomplished with professionalism and attention to our convenience.

They came and walked the yard with me. They completed the work and I was very satisfied.

I was very happy with the end result. James was super nice, very responsive and eager to please. I live in Manayunk and don't have a good entrance to my back yard. James was the only landscaper to be excited to take on the challenge and work to find an affordable solution. He's very passionate about his work and it shows. He also didn't mind when I threw in some last minute minor changes with the paver walkway and the branch trimming. The paver walkway required a bit more work so it did cost a tiny bit extra which I was comfortable with. He's also happy to help with any questions you have after the job is done which is nice. I was very nervous about doing sod so I have asked him some follow-up questions to make sure I'm taking care of it right. I am extremely meticulous with maybe a bit of over-attention to detail so if I had ANY suggestions for future customers like myself, its to specify any details that are important to you that to others might seem insignificant. My job was not an easy one in that it was adding to the existing surroundings so I knew everything wouldn't match perfectly but I had forgotten to specify that I wanted the extended patio to be smoothed in the same pattern as the existing patio (swirls instead of straight lines). But, as I'm sure you would all agree, this is very minor and I am super happy with how everything turned out. I get compliments on my backyard all the time and my neighbor is jealous of my lawn.

The project went very well. James was very professional and responsive from beginning to end. He came out to walk through our property and look at all of our problem areas. We had a budget of $2000 to do a clean-up and freshening of our yard and berm. I appreciated James' ability to work so well within our budget. He honed in on which projects we would need and enjoy the most. He proposed to clean up areas that were eyesores: the curb, the berm, the backyard, the patchy lawn. He also proposed to beautify our front yard by removing a big, ugly boxwood and redesigning our garden bed with pretty, pink roses. All work was completed in one day with the exception of the backyard brush removal which was initially forgotten. James was apologetic and returned another day to finish the job. I'm glad I chose James to help us out this summer; we are very happy with the results.

We are extremely pleased with all work done by JLS Land Services and would highly recommend its services for any hardscaping or landscaping needs (should the need arise we will definitely use them again). We have used a few local companies for similar projects at our home, and found James and crew to be extremely professional, customer-focused, on time, on budget and speedy, while getting the job done very well. James went the extra mile to work with us to locate the right pavers to match the existing, old pavers used at our home to ensure a cohesive design. Also, the retaining wall and walkway were both built within a very root-laden area, but the team used precision, hand cutting and attention to detail to make sure the areas were prepped accordingly and the pavers were sized right so that the installations would remain level – their expertise and upfront planning ensured the job was done properly. The team even came back a week later (at our request, and no additional charge except materials) to help spread out the topsoil for the planting bed (note that we did not contract with James for the actual plantings, only because we are gardening hobbyists and want to plant ourselves). James followed up to ensure the work was completed to satisfaction. JLS Land Services was such a pleasure on all counts, and are highly recommended.

James was responsive to my contact via Angie's List. He came over within a few days to look at what needed to be done and gave us a verbal estimate which we accepted. We weren't in a hurry and said so, and he and his crew came in a few weeks and did all the work exactly as we had described (we emailed a list to him as well). We were very pleased and felt the price was reasonable. We wouldn't hesitate to hire JLS again or to recommend them to others.

I think it went quite well. I think they did a good job, but they were a little expensive.

I best thing I did was contract with JLS. James responded to my initial contact immediately. We scheduled a time to review my drainage issues. James was punctual and provided me with a detailed estimate. He took the time to explain the corrective action that was needed and provided me with drawing of what he recommended. The project was completed in a timely manner. I have high standards and James and his crew definitely met them. They are truly professionals. Upon completion of the project, I asked him to provide me with recommendations for my overgrown front plantings. I will definitely use JLS again and recommend them to my friends and family. This was our third time we have used James' company. They do a great job repeatedly and we continue to be very happy with the quality of the work. They are extremely neat and James can be trusted to know exactly what we want. We are very proud of our home's appearance with new flowers and a manicured landscape. JLS is the best service we have used in the nine years we have lived in our home.

Ispoke to owner, James about landscaping my front yard with easy to care for plants and bushes. He referred me to Daniel, the designer. Daniel met with me twice. Once to view property and hear my concerns and the second time to show me his plans. He was very easy to work with and had great ideas. The guys came out in April and did the job in half a day. Looks beautiful. Whole project took one month from start to finish.

Last fall, Daniel the designer came to look at my yard. He gave me his ideas and asked what my price range was. I received an estimate in the mail. As it was too late in the fall to complete the landscaping, it was put off until the spring. This spring they came and completed the job.

James and his assistant worked a very long day, and accomplished much more than they had expected. While they were working, our neighbor had a yard service applying black-dyed mulch right up against the fence separating his yard from our organic vegetable garden. I was distraught over the inevitable contamination of my garden with the chemicals in the dye, and asked James what we could do. He went to talk with our neighbor, and in his friendly, diplomatic way resolved the issue. I agreed to pay James for the removal of all the black mulch and application of an environmentally friendly natural mulch. This involved a trip to a facility where he could dump all the liriope and branches, then returning with a load of good mulch. And it added several more hours to his day when he had already planned to go to another job -- and of course it increased the price for me by quite a bit. I was so grateful to him for handling this -- and he remained cheerful the whole time. Plus he did a great job with the liriope and bushes. I'm thankful to have found him, because he's a pleasure to work with.

I called them but they did not do the work. They were very prompt. They have a link on Angie's List for the email, and they got back in touch with us within a couple of hours of my emailing. They came over later that day and spoke with my husband. They found out what work we wanted done and gave a price right then and followed up with an email to make sure that we had it and if we had any questions. They were very professional. We were waiting for several other estimates and the one we chose was cheaper than theirs by a few hundred dollars. We took the less expensive one. We did email them and let them know that we were doing that. They were just pricier than the other folks. The gentleman who came was the owner and he was very friendly. They asked if they could drop over at the end of the workday and look at what we wanted done and give the estimate, and they did. They were excellent.

First, JLS was amazingly responsive, conducted a good deal of our business electronically. He was really on top of things! After an initial estimate, we changed plans and he promptly provided a new estimate. On work day, his crew arrived early and they got right down to business! We were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the results were.

Adjoining 8 foot fence blew down in a storm and Jim showed up and replaced the fence on short notice and did a great job!!

Very professional, neat, careful to avoid damaging other parts of property. Good communications, cooperated with insurance company requirements, and made extra effort to satisfy how I wanted the job done.

James was a complete pleasure to work with from the first call to him arriving at the time he said he would to his professional manner with my neighbor (whose yard shares the fence with mine). the fence looks great and is much sturdier than before it was knocked down. if every professional handled his/her business as well James did being a home owner would be much easier. I would strongly recommend him to anyone.

James and his crew did a wonderful job. He gave me an estimate quickly and was able to do the job the following week. He completed the job in a half a day and even did a little extra clearing of shrubs and trees that was not included in the initial estimate at no additional cost. We have used James before and will use him again in the future.

This was the lowest estimate for the work in our front and side yards, by far, so we were initially nervous about it. However, the work was done on the appointed day, way more quickly than we had anticipated. The landscapers and tree-removal workers were all professional and did a beautiful job. James was friendly and wasy to work with.

When james requested during our first estimate visit that I be there to make myself available to them so that i could be part of telling them exactly how i wanted things done and shaped and how i wanted to look it made perfect sense to me and i told that it was a very wise approach..a teamwork approach that I really really appreciated. He told me that it was obvious that I had taken care of my yard for many many years and that I knew a lot about it and he was right..it's just that i could no longer manage taking care of my yard anymore due to back problems that and well bushes planted have grown tall and well and are well beyond my ability to reach them and trim any longer. James even transplanted a few bushes from my back yard to my front and suggested a new bush be planted where the old bush had been destroyed by the march winter storm. Today a good month or so later since he and his crew have been to my house my trees are looking so much better and all the bushes that were staked and tied to realign them are growing better and recovering. I look out at my yard now and feel a sense of peace and serenity..the mulch looks great..he suggested darker colored mulch and got a better grade of mulch and he was spot on with his advice..it's helping tremendously. I can only thank James Schmidt and his crew again and again and agai and I did last time they were at my house....they all worked well with me whenever i had suggestions and/or questions here and there as to how to approach trimming a bush that was oddly shaped to make it come back to life renewed and in flow with the rest of the yard. Whenever i did review anything and put in small requests always i received kind cooperation and positive pleasant response. This truly was a wonderful expereince for me especially when contrasted against other experiences i've had with just terrible landscapers that overcharged..never followed up with my phone calls in a timely and professional manner and did less than mediocre work and/or damaged my landscaping. I am so thankful to James for listing his JLS Land Services on Angie's list so that I could find this great business owner who so obviously loves what he does despite the hard work that goes into it all..his work shows his passion when it comes to creating beauty and flow and maintenance with his 10+ years of landscaping experience in his own business and whatever experience he brought with him prior to the inception of his business. Congratulations james and thank you again...I so look forward to having you and your crew take care of my yard in the future..it puts my mind at ease to know that i can call you and depend you and your business to take care of keeping my yard looking well maintained and pretty and flowing and peaceful throughout the months and hopefully years to come. If you call james and his landscaping business i can promise you that you will not be disappointed. One more very key thing...his prices were so reasonable and i was able to fit it into my budget. As an aside...though at the end of the work he and his crew completed for me during his second visit..i paid him exactly what the estimate quoted which is exactly what he expected...i made sure w/in 3-4 weeks or so to send him a bit of extra money..not because he asked or expected it...but because he and his crew did so much extra work of their own choosing to help me out that I felt it only fair to compensate him and thank him accordingly. Having said this..james ethically and professionally stuck to the price of his estimate and expected nothing more. What a delight in today's world to see someone who is more focused on getting the job done right all the way and even beyond what is expected just because of who he is and his great work ethic. It's good to know that these old time business values still exist today and JLS Land and James Schmidt and living examples of how great business used to run years ago and albeit small in numbers are still around today! James returned my initial phone call promptly, and within a couple of days came out to see what needed to be done. He scheduled the work for the following week. I have a large yard and will definitely need to get his help again.

From estimate and evaluation to completion of job James was polite, helpful, professional and quick. They really did a remarkable job. I am only sorry they don't offer a monthly service agreement. I would recommend highly. They are also doing an estimate for us for some retaining walls.

JLS was called on an "emergency basis" when my (remote) tenants sent me pictures of how bad the yard had gotten on the property. We called several places previously that had failed to even show up for work! JLS however was available the very next morning, was at the house by 8am and had the entire yard done in time for my tenants to have an outside party that same day. No kidding. Fast and friendly, eager to please, and delivered on time. Would absolutely recommend them to anyone, and they just got a new client in me.
