Brian was great from start to finish. He came over to provide an estimate and once I scheduled him to start, he was always responsive and on time every step of the way. Brian has quite a bit of work going on at any given time, frankly have no idea how he's able to stay on schedule as well as he does. I would definitely recommend you call him first for any of your basement remodeling needs!

Both Brian and Jim worked quickly and efficiently.
Description of Work: Brian did an excellent job on multiple drywall/spackling repair issues we had in out home. He addressed several areas <dining room ceiling, kitchen ceiling, living room/front hallway ceiling, familyroom ceiling, and basement ceiling. He actually noticed several areas that needed repair that we had not even noticed until he brought them to our attention. Brian and his drywall installation coworker Jim did a wonderful job , and all areas that were repaired look as if damage was never done to the areas ever!!

I contacted Brian and he was very good with replying right away and fitting me into his busy schedule. We had lots of smaller projects so he explained that he charged $200 a day for those kinds of things so the estimate was $800 total for 2.5 days of work and materials. The three days had to be spread out due to his schedule but it still worked out well. He and his brother always showed up bright and early around 8am. Between the two of them they worked continuously and what I was most impressed about was that they took great care to clean up as they worked. Drywall and plaster are very messy and dusty and they were always vacuuming along the way. Don't get me wrong we had to still mop and wipe everything down after they finally left (a vacuum can't get that fine dust left behind) but we've had other contractors leave a big mess behind. In the end, they worked a full day the first day and two more half days (it couldn't be rushed because plaster had to dry on its own time). In the end he only charged us $600 from his $800 estimate so we were very happy that he was honest and fair. As for the work he and his brother did, my family and I were extremely happy because the walls and ceilings looked seamless and professional. I would hire Brian again without hesitation.

Thanks for the review and I am glad it came out good. Sometimes those types of patches are hard to blend. You are right drywall and plaster are messy and that fine dust gets everywhere. It was a pleasure working with you guys.

Very Disappointed! I called the contractor to set up an appointment to come out repair a 4' x 4' section of drywall that had gotten wet from a plumbing leak. He mentioned he didn't know what his work load was going to be like the following week so he had said he would give me a call on Monday to let me know. I never received a phone call on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. I called him on Thursday to find out what was going on and he said he was swamped with work and would let me know the following week. Well, another week went by and I heard nothing. I called one last time, and he had mentioned he was real busy. I had given up at this point in time and called an old neighbor who's an electrician. Poor customer service. Lack of responsivess. Hopefully any one who calls this contractor is not pressed for time to get any drywall work done.
Description of Work: No services were performed because he kept pushing the date off when he was going to come and fix our drywall.

Yeah right I am going to drive 90 minutes for a 2x2 patch...lol. I told him I was swamped and he was pretty far away and if for some reason he couldn't get someone to let me know. My workload is nuts and I do my best to accommodate everyone. Sometimes I have to say no and people get offended. I get customers as far as 3 hours away and more contacting me. This customer wouldn't take no for an answer and kept calling me. I am glad he got someone else, but I communicated how busy I was and for him to find someone local. Giving me an "F" for telling him I was too busy just shows I am better off not getting involved with this guy...lol Can't please them all. If I can't do your job please understand and move on. I do my best to get to everyone and I work 7 days a week.

His price was better than somebody else that quoted us and they were very responsive. He is prompt for the first appointment but if the owner books another appointment sometimes he runs behind because he is so busy. However, he called and apologized when he was late. But you can't beat the work; the work is top notch and he is very professional. I would recommend him without reservation; he did a great job and the price was very reasonable. It was a small job which was hard to get people to do.

They came for an estimate and really gave us a detailed evaluation of what they suggested. We decided to go with them. There contract was clear and given to us in a timely fashion. They began work when they said they would. They were always early and worked later than other contractors. We were under an extreme time restraint and they took all of that in to consideration each day they were here. The work was precise and seamless.

This is the second time I have used the Wallologist, Brian, for repairs at my house. I feel that he is trustworthy and offers fair pricing. Brian is also willing to make adjustments to construction plans as needed. I would say that if you can be somewhat flexible and work with his schedule, Brian is a great contractor.
Description of Work: Brian took down a large mirror and replaced with drywall. He plastered over the drywall to even it out for painting. Additionally, he put in electrical boxes so I could install lighting. Also, Brian tore down tiles and then put up drywall in a bedroom, including the ceiling. He also installed an electrical box in that room for a ceiling fan.

The general contractor was polite and helpful, but I still need a structural engineer.
Description of Work: The individual gave us his opinion regarding our load bearing wall. He recommended that I seek a structural engineer because he was a general contractor. Since he was unable to perform what was needed he suggested that he would locate a structural engineer if we further pursued his services. So I decided to find a structural engineer on my own. Based on my request from Angie's List, I needed someone for a load bearing wall and Angie's List gave me a list of general contractors instead of a structural engineer. This is why the general contractor could not help me.

Response from The Wallologist
I have been doing this for over 25 years and have worked hurt taped up, etc. Below is my ACTUAL response to this customer. At least he didn't give me an "F" for being too busy. On 11/30/2011 6:01 AM, Brian Yocum wrote: This is Brian Yocum The Wallologist. You had emailed me via Angie's list. I could do that work no problem, but to be honest my schedule is absolutely crazy right now. It seems you need someone to get in and knock it out and I wouldn't be able to get in until mid-December. If for some reason you can't get anyone by then let me know and I will get it done for you. I do apologize, but I just can't commit to anything else right now. Blessings, Brian Yocum The Wallologist 610-428-3724
Hiring Process: I contacted the Wallologist (Brian) to take a look at basement to convert it to a finished living space. Brian was very prompt and a great vision on how to finish my basement. I had 4 other contractors look at it as well, and no came close to offering any similar or better solutions. Brian clearly outpaced all the contractors who came to quote the job. It was a no brainer; I hired Brian and he started my basement within a couple of weeks of us signing a contract and acquiring all permits. I had Brian Frame, Drywall, Spackle, install molding/trim, and create a custom bar. Framing: Brian and his team were able to relocate a HVAC Duct and construct detailed soffits that were attractive. I had a complex situation in my basement and Brian?s vision was spot on during this phase of construction. He also framed out 4 full walk in closets and the bar. Brian?s attention to detail and dedication to make it right is what sets him apart from most contractors. Drywall: After my electrical work was completed (outside contractor not affiliated with Brian) Brian came in and installed drywall. Due to the complex nature of my staircase Brian had to cut each piece of drywall to fit down the stairs. He took his time and completed the drywall using top quality materials. Spackling/Molding: Once again Brian completed this phase of the job in such a quality fashion using high grade materials and spending many days sanding and spackling to make the walls perfect. Brian in my opinion is an expert and I know anyone would be hard pressed to find a harder or more skilled worker. He installed large 5 ¼ molding in my basement, all door trim and nice molding details around my basement windows. Everything was measured and installed to perfection. Bar: Brian completed designed and custom fabricated the bar with detailed wainscoting and custom built in shelving. Again words are hard to describe the level of detail and time Brian spent on this project. Please see all the pictures to better appreciate his work. Final Words: Brian is a very busy individual and this is due to his high quality work, pricing and customer service. Good things come in time, and he is worth the wait if he is back logged; please be patient. Brian always puts his customers first and makes the job right the first time. He is very flexible to work with and responds to email, telephone and text messages. In addition, to his hard work and dedication to the job; his price is hard to beat as well. A truly exceptional individual with an unmatched skill set. Even after final payment, Brian was very responsive and came back after my carpet was installed to trim some doors and install the banisters. Please contact me if you need a reference or have any questions prior to hiring the Wallologist. Brian Gaida ? briangaida@gmail.com

Thanks Member. Your basement came out great and you and your wife were a pleasure to work with. I hear horror stories from customers about some of the contractors out there. I work with and for some really great contractors and tradesmen, but I have dealt with my share of bad contractors. One of the main things missing today is pride. If more of us had that one thing then the customers bad experiences would be minimized. None of us are perfect, but if we care enough to make things right and do it like we would our own homes then we all would stay busy regardless of the economy. All that said, for every good and bad contractor there are good and bad customers. Those who take advantage of people, want something for nothing and complain expecting unrealistic outcomes, etc. Some of us may be juggling 10 jobs at once and yet we need to balance it out and allow each customers job to be the only job that matters. Customers like you are a dream and I thank you for your patience and understanding. We were able make changes, add ons, etc and get through the project in a timely manner that was fair for everyone involved. Most of all you got the finished product you wanted. Enjoy your new basement!

Member, I am not taking on any new work for a few weeks. I hate turning things down, but I am overwhelmed with jobs and some I am under contract to finish. Some advice though. You can leave the lathe. I would make sure to screw into the joists when securing the sheetrock. You can actually drywall over the plaster and lathe as long as you screw into the joists. Use long enough screws. If the plaster is still intact you can go over it. if it has already started coming down you can either patch the fallen spots the same thickness then sheetrock over everything, or gut the plaster. If you want to gut the lathe you can as well it is actually the easy part of the demo. I hope that helps and sorry I couldn't be more help right now. Brian Yocum The Wallologist 610-428-3724
Brian does great work. His price was reasonable and overall his work was excellant. He was meticulous to details and both my wife and I are fully satisfied with the jobs he performed. Description of Work: We hired Brian to repair our family room after waterproofing contractors had completed their work. Brian re-insulated and re-studed the walls and installed new drywall. After I painted we had Brian back to install new flooring and baseboard moldings.
They did an excellent job. He was very professional, did a very nice job at cleaning up afterwards. We are very happy with the work. Even though they were a day late, they did call ahead and let us know they would be late.

From the first phone call, working with Brian was a pleasure. We were kept apprised of the progress. Our tenants were contacted in a timely fashion for access to the garage, and overall the experience with The Wallologist was easy and efficient.
Description of Work: A slow leak from a bay roof area into the garage of our townhouse contributed to wet and moldy dry wall. The Wallologist came in and removed all affected drywall, cleaned the bare walls (including studs) to remove any residual mold, dryed the area, and replaced the drywall. The walls were then primed to be painted.

Our experience was positive and we haven't noticed any "bad seams" or major flaws in his work.
Description of Work: We tore out damaged drywall and added insulation to a sunroom. The Wallologist redrywalled the room which inclued a vaulted ceiling, skylights, and butt-up to a brick wall. We were very happy with his professionalism, attention to detail, and willingness to work with and try to lessen the visual effect of bad framing around a window.
