I scheduled a furnace tune-up with Wahl through a coupon provided by Homedepot. A technician, Steve, came to our house. The moment he saw our furnace being Lennox brand, he immediately told my wife that the furnace is in recall and returned to his van coming back with a litany of paper works trying to sell my wife replacement of both AC and furnace. My wife asked him to do the turn-up which he only performed carbon monoxide measurement. He refused to do any further tune-up and took the 89.95 check with him. We searched online and even called a Lennox dealer for the recall and it turns our our model is not in recall. I called Wahl asking for explanation for the un-tune-up. At the my request, Steve called me and tried to "assure" me that he has 30+ years in HAVC and all the trainings he took and his judgement is right etc. Basically, he was trying to justify that no tune-up is worth 89.95 dollars. The manager, Jennifer, did send back another technician, Pat, to go over the tune-up again. Pat is professional, and he redid the carbon monoxide, and also adjusted the pressure in our furnace. Although the conclusion is the same that our furnace needs to be replaced, it's a much more transparent process. I would have given Wahl all F hasn't it been Pat coming back and the tune-up. This Steve guy is toally unprofessional. I would not recommend Wahl again.

On 11/22/2017, a “senior” technician, Steve, from Wahl Heating came to inspect my furnace as part of a service contract purchased a few months before. After 5 minutes, Steve came up and said that I had a cracked heat exchanger and needed a new furnace. He provided several estimates ranging from $3400-$10,000 for a 900 SQ FT Townhouse. He offered to knock a few hundred dollars off the price if I purchased that day. Due to the short inspection time and hard sell, I declined his estimates. I had two independent HVAC technicians come out for a second opinion (one of them was the technician that installed the furnace in 1997). I did not tell them about the diagnosis from Wahl so they went in without any bias, etc. After a couple of hours cleaning and making necessary adjustments, they said they were done, furnace was fine (no mention of broken heat exchanger), and I could get another 10 years out of the furnace. I emailed Wahl and told them of the situation regarding their estimate and the second opinion. I have received no response. I will not hire again.

!!!WARNING!!! under no circumstances allow anyone from this company to enter your home, if you do you will seriously regret it. 3 visits from Wahl technicians in about 12 months, 2 of those visits resulted in strong-arm high pressure extortion like sales tactics from the technicians for a total of about $10,000 worth unnecessary “repairs”. I’m not sure if it was gross incompetence or criminal intent. I guess in the end it doesn’t matter as it cost me lots of time, energy, money and damage to my property. I suppose if Wahl would stop incentivising their technicians to make sales, they might actually spend time doing what they came to do instead of creating situations where they need to sell me something I don’t want or need. The attached image is the result of a Wahl technician that "forgot" that he turned off a gas valve in my basement, so they decided to dig up my sidewalk to fix it.

I have been using them for years. I have a contractual agreement with them. They had a glitch, but they took care of it. They have done a good job. They installed the systems under extraordinary circumstances. They have been good about doing the maintenance. They give you a window, and call to let you know when they are going to be there.

Since the unit was installed by the previous owner of the house, we were not informed that a costly (3-500 per year charge) maintenance needed to be performed to "maintain" the warranty. Therefore the warranty was completely invalid (and apparently not even something they were willing to negotiate over.) We were given inconsistant pricing (told on one page a new main board was 1900 dollars, then 719 dollars on another quote) and were pushed to "replace the unit with a new one as that is your cheapest option". How does it even make sense to replace a less than 6 year old unit with a new one? The best part is, after the service person left, the AC started working again on its own. Would never call them again for service. Would recommend you avoid at all costs.

The plumber had to come back a second time because he didn't have the parts needed. He guaranteed that if I paid for the $399 burst free pipes that and leak would be guaranteed. Total cost, just short of $500. Well it leaked less than 2 months later, damaged the laundry room floor and the kitchen ceiling and kitchen floor. At first they said there was a gray area because the leak was a result of reusing the old Y connector but the plumber said it would be covered. I never asked him to reuse it and the gasket that failed was in the burst free pipe. I never asked him to use it, he had to reuse it because he forgot to buy one. He also counted the number of pipes needed wrong and had to reuse one of the old pipes as well! They got people here to dry everything fast but to schedule the repairs have been like pulling teeth. They told me I had to pick out a floor from Home Depot so "we" don't have out of pocket costs. I want the floor that it was because it is in other places in the home and my home is brand new! The floor I want is cheap too, under $200, so I don't think I am being unreasonable. They also are failing to acknowledge that the kitchen ceiling and the kitchen floor both need fixed. Some customer service! I have filed an official complaint with the BBB and am prepared to take them to court for the repairs if needed. The leak was the cause of improper installation of the plumber and improper examination of the pipes with the plumber clearly admitted to.

They were not good. The salesman was just so arrogant because he sold Trane. Just because he sold Trane that is highly rated, the prices were ridiculous. I guess just because it was a Trane product that he thought he could sell it. He was just rude.

Once I pointed out the absurdity of paying more than 50% of the purchase and installation price to replace a part that was still under warranty, the provider reluctantly offered to return my initial outlay, but refused to move off the gouging price. The provider scolded me for "not buying the extended warranty" and we agreed to part ways. Who said "Greed is good", lied.
Description of Work: Provider was asked to diagnose a failing cooling system that is only 4 years old. Before examining the unit (it was frozen due to a refrigerant leak in the A-coil) the provider "diagnosed" $1,000 of repairs and damaged property (bilco doors) adjacent to the air handler by falling off a ladder.. Once the unit thawed, the provider proposed charging an additional $700 of work to fix the coil, which is still under limited warranty. This 3 -4 hour repair would have cost more than $425/hour including coolant, brazening materials, and nitrogen, an outrageous amount

Nicole or Lindsay will always call to confirm your appointment. They have accommodated my schedule every time! You will also receive a call from them to let you know that they are on their way. This day they were running late and we were notified accordingly. Our appointment was between 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. They arrived approximately 12:35 p.m. Service technician Dave was here to perform a 6 month tune up of the air conditioning unit. At that time, I advised that our air conditioning unit was not working properly. Dave stated he would have to perform a leak test, repair the leak and add refrigerant. I was advised of the cost, which was very expensive due to the price of the refrigerant. The cause of the leak was discovered very quickly...it was the Schrader valves. Dave replaced the valves, added the refrigerant and changed our filters. Dave was very competent and was great at explaining all our options and the details. I was very happy with the service, but did not expect to have such a high bill.
Description of Work: Performed 6 month air conditioning tune-up. Leak was discovered (quickly) and repaired. Refrigerant added and new filters were installed.

The Service tech who reported was named Jim. After only a cursory look and moving a few test wires around he said that "99% of the time this meant a cracked heat exchanger" and "the furnace was dead." He began to give me what I considered a "hard-sell" for a new furnace even though "He wasn't a salesman." While he wrote up the quotes, I called Metro for a second opinion. Metro showed me a simple, manual re-start of the furnace so I wasn't left in the cold until the furnace could be replaced -- unlike the Wahl representative. Metro's service tech used a video-scope to actually SHOW me the cracks in the heat exchanger (yes, Jim's diagnosis did turn out to be accurate-- otherwise I would have gone ballistic). I was turned off by the Wahl's hard-sell approach and was skeptical of what appeared to be a snap diagnosis when I was seeming to be "over a barrel" and left in the cold. Wahl has been an annual service/maintenance company for us off & on now for the past 11 years. It seems like we have have sometimes had very positive or negative interactions in the past during the maintenance depending on who showed up to provide the service.

The initial call was due to a failure on the line exiting the hot water tank. The failure (occurring the prior evening at about 11 PM) caused water to shoot out into the room like a fountain, getting in the furnace. After assessing the situation and shutting gas off to the water tank, the furnace would not light - and from the service panel, needed to be serviced due to the water. Wahl showed up and got the furnace lit quickly. Unfortunately, no simple solution was offered on the water tank. The tech from Wahl encouraged me to contact my insurer as they might cover the loss on the furnace (I did, they did). However, that took time. The only option I was offered was to replace the water tank - not an inexpensive option at around $1400 (up from his original estimate of about $700 without explanation). In addition, a dizzying set of options of differing tanks, furnaces, packages was all put in front of me and presented as my options. Fortunately, a neighbor was able to (temporarily) repair the water tank exit line, providing me an option to wait. The service call for the day was $99. Two days later, after my call to order the service, Wahl sent three techs out to replace both furnace and water tank. The work went well and clean and (as of now- work was done earlier today) all seems well.

Furnace would not reliably fire (first or 2nd stage). Ignitor would turn on but then it would not light. Furnace is a 10 year old Trane XL80 in otherwise good shape (clean, regular service etc). The problem could have been due to a bad pressure switch, air flow switch, ignitor, circuit board, or heat exchanger. Service rep found that there was a small amount of CO in the vents (2-5 ppm), which is not good. He indicated that this meant that we had a cracked heat exchanger. However, when the rep was in his van I fired on the furnace and looked at the CO meter. The reading when it initially turned on was 5ppm but this dropped to 2ppm within a minute and was at zero ppm from then on. This suggests that the CO issue was very temporary and was due to the initial firing of the furnace. Anyway, the rep said that is would cost $3200 to replace the heat exchanger (including parts) or $1800 to replace it if the part was still under warranty (it was). Talking to two other HVAC techs after this service call, I was quoted $350 and 635 to replace the heat exchanger (labor only). The service rep also said that I needed two new pressure switches, a new ignitor, and filter. The total (parts and labor) to fix those items was $740 (actual parts cost retail is about $50 for these items with about 15 minutes install time!). The high (and dishonest?) prices were clearly set so that I would consider replacing the furnace. I was quoted at $3000 for a lesser furnace (80% single stage), $4800 for an equal replacement of the furnace that I had (80% efficiency 2 stage) or $6500 for a new 95% efficient furnace. Again, later I had two quotes for $3000 and $2800 to do an equal replacement of my furnace from two other companies. I was shocked by the high price to replace the supposedly broken parts on my furnace so I blew off the reps pressure to buy a new furnace on the spot. I then called two other service techs. The first one ($50 service call fee) was unsure what was wrong with the furnace but assured me that the heat exchanger was completely fine. He suspected that there was either a bad switch or a bad circuit board. I told this first tech about the service call from Wahl including that they thought it was a bad heat exchanger. For the second tech, I did not tell him that anyone had come to my house previously. The second tech ($50 service fee) thought the problem was either a bad air flow sensor, a bad filter (the filter was dirty) or a bad circuit board. I asked him about the heat exchanger. He went through all of the steps that he does to identify a bad exchanger (none of which the Wahl rep had done) and found that it was solid. In other words, the heat exchanger was completely fine and the Wahl rep never ever really checked to see if it was broken (including using basic visual/sensory identifiers of a bad exchanger). Anyway, I went with the first guy (after the Wahl service call) who replaced the circuit board (parts $225 (I actually purchased it so this was actual parts cost); labor $25) in about 45 minutes. We also replaced the ignitor because the new circuit board came with a new ignitor. Everything is working fine. Overall - Wahl heating - Overpriced, dishonest and deceitful. Do not use them for anything unless you have too (i.e. you have a warranty through them that requires them to do an annual service call).

Wahl rep identified the problem as a bad heat exchanger, which as it turns out was false (possibly a blatant lie)(see below). Rep left with the furnace still broken. It was eventually fixed by another provider (see below).

I was in my home as he was doing the inspection and working on the AC unit and I heard a large bang, and he had told me he fallen. I come to find out the dryer connection was broken, so I called to schedule an appointment first thing Monday morning. It was hard to get a hold of them to talk to someone. Once I got ahold of them, they said they would not pay for the repair of the dryer connection even though I had paid them ahead of time.

We are very sorry about the confusion. The day she is called it was almost 90 degrees and our phones were ringing non stop. Our Tech. was unaware of the broken dryer vent. We did however go back, take pictures and replace it at no charge out of respect for our clients property. I believe we resolved this issue and have placed a call to confirm a resolution.

They came back for a one-year check up. The technician was very informative, polite, & clean. No complaints at all. They’re expensive but they do a good job.

That aside, the checkup visit was done very professionally, by technician Curtis B, whom I do not hesitate to recommend. He gave me some recommendations for other things to get done that cost money (I think is required as part of a checkup visit, but he was gentle about it). And also gave advice about the air filter I've been using that clarified for me that it's best to use the higher quality filters, even though they put more of a load on the air intake — cause it helps to keep the whole mechanism of the furnace more clean.
Description of Work: This was only a checkup-visit for my furnace, a Trane, that Wahl installed in January 2012. It's been working fine, but Wahl reminded me by letter that I needed to have the checkup done to keep the warranty active (which I don't remember being told at the time of installation — but hey, I'm forgetful, nor did I find it anywhere written, except vaguely — to perform "routine maintenance" — in the warranty papers).
