Well with some initial problems. The problems were solved and the basement--nearly 13 years later has been dry. The original sump pump installed by the contractors, with extremely heavy use (sometimes pumping every 43 SECONDS for MONTHS at a time), lasted 11 years.
Description of Work: Basement waterproofing: dig trench along interior wall of entire basement, lay crushed stone and pipe, wash and paint all walls, install sump pump and baseboard material, seal concrete floor.

Bottom line -- if you have water intrusion and you want it fixed, hire these guys; you won't be sorry. From the first time I met with the owner, David Kidd, I knew he was a guy I could trust. He made several trips to my house to ensure I completely understood everything that would be done and never once tried to pressure me into selecting his company to do the work. He even stayed in contact with me after the drain job was complete to provide advice on a concrete staining/sealing job I wanted to do myself -- no charge and always with complete professionalism and in-depth knowledge. This isn't something you find often in today's market. His crew was fantastic to deal with as well. I had the pleasure of interacting with them on a daily basis and they are down to earth guys who work hard (trust me -- interior drains require hard work). They tidied up the best they could each day and did their best to minimize dust (remember, there will be dust when you jackhammer concrete). When they finished the job, they left the area cleaner than they found it. Remember the saying: "You get what you pay for." I consider myself relatively smart when it comes to construction and I quickly found out how much I DID NOT know about installing proper drains. There is way more to the job (to do it correctly) than just digging trenches, filling with gravel and pipe, and re-concreting. Do yourself a favor and don't seek a "bargain". If you do, you will be calling David to fix it right when the bargain job fails and you have water in your basement again. - Steve

Immediately he encountered unexpected 10" think concrete floor which caused extensive labor to go beyond the estimate. He also dealt with structural issues in the base blocks on 2 walls that he repaired by adding structural steel members. The combination of conditions caused his estimate time of 8 to 10 days to became 16 actual days on site. DISPITE THESE ISSUES HE NEVER CHANGED HIS CONTRACTED PROPOSED PRICE. Getting it right was as important to him as it was to me. The basement has leaked and been moldy and damp since I moved in 13 years ago. Several efforts were made to solve the problem and all have failed. Since the completion of this project heavy rain conditions which previously would have lead to extensive leakage left MY BASEMENT DRY. I had a significant range in quotes, his quote was one of the higher priced but was well worth it. I believe another less expensive contractor probably would have increased their price when they encountered the floor depth and the structural issues with the walls.
Description of Work: Water proof a cement block basement on all walls by interior french drain, high volume sump pump, drill weep holes into core of every bottom block & key holes through blocks, treated all exposed wall & floor with Safe Shield Mold Release Treatment, applied Enviro Seal wall treatment, sealed all wall cracks, installed R.V.B. at cove to seal drain system. Temporally moved fuel oil tank to gain access to walls. Permanently moved hot water tank to new location. Filled 2 existing sump pump pits. Concrete finished all trenches & pits. Kept site clean at the end of each day and successfully attempted to seal basement from dust migration in balance of house.

They waterproofed my basement. They were prompt, courteous and thorough and cleaned up well afterwards. They kept me informed throughout of the status of work. The workmen were very serious and professional. I am very happy with the job they did, and I now have a dry basement. They were, however, the highest bidder on the project (I got three others). In the end, I'm glad I went with them.

The crew arrived before the start time each morning, or told me in advance that they would be late and why. They worked through the day in a highly professional manner. They did their best to control dust and removed many items from the area. They were willing to describe their work and were always polite. While the price seemed a bit high for the size of the basement, I previously witnessed a basement drainage system being installed by a different company. There was little comparison to the job done at my home. My basement is clean and dry, while the other has to have a dehumidifier in operation 24/7. The 10% discount offered in a mailing helped to get my attention. The presentation by David Kidd helped convince me that they were the company I should hire. The completed job confirmed the choice!!

These guys did an excellent job. The basement of this particular building had an existing sump-pump system, however, sitting empty without power and a functioning pump allowed the basement to get wet and stay wet, for years. This resulted in the worst smelling, looking, and feeling basement I never want to see again. There was so much humidity that the wallpaper upstairs was falling off of the walls. The first day of work for Mr. Kidds' crew saw the arrival of a large dumpster, followed by the demolition team. They tirelessly, day after day, ripped out all of the partition walls, bathroom fixtures, studs, panelling, wiring, shelving, flooring, and everything else that was not a structural component. Amazingly enough, each day they swept-up behind themselves, even though the next day would just bring more dust and debris. Before the demolition was complete, a couple of workers set about the task of jack-hammering and digging a french drain 18 inches deep around the perimeter. That was a lot of work, they had to carry the rock, dirt, and concrete outside in five gallon buckets. When they came to the one wall that had bowed inward slightly, they dug two deeper foundation pads, to support two steel I-beams bracing the wall. The french drain trough was backfilled with clean gravel after the drain pipe was lain. When all of the demolition was finished, they sprayed a treatment on ALL surfaces to kill any lingering smelly organisms After that point, the basement progressed into a liveable area very quickly. Two sumps and pumps were installed, the walls were treated with a waterproofing coating (they also did a few clever mechanical tricks to help with any future water issues, but I think those techniques are rightfully proprietary.) In addition to treating the exterior perimeter walls, they painted the rest of the concrete block white, even though that was not part of the contract we had signed. The entire process was enjoyable to be a part of, we could go down to the building every night and see the progress as the project unfolded.ere way. At the end, they cleaned up, vacuumed, installed two dehumidifiers, and were on their way...until it poured down several inches of rain and I discovered two small damp spots (damp, not wet) around a cast concrete stairway, and at the exterior basement entryway door. This was the best part. The firms owner quickly sent two guys to fix the problems. No hassles at all. My experiences with Kidd Enterprise has been professional, timely, and enjoyable. I'd use them again.
Description of Work: Gutted the interior (basement and ground level) of an old church building. that had been left unattended for about four years. Braced bowing basement wall section . Removed all wooden walls, carpeting, flooring, wiring, light fixtures, etc. Sprayed all surfaces with mildewcide. Installed a french drain around the interior perimeter of the basement including a tie-in to a drain at the bottom of the outdoor basement steps. Installed two sump pumps to expel any water from the french drain system. Applied epoxy waterproofing coating on all basement walls exposed to ground. Painted all of the remaining basement walls white to match the waterproofing. Disposed of all the removed materials.

The workers did an excellent job from start to finish. They were friendly, prompt, informative and hard, efficient workers. Any questions were answered by the workers in charge or by David Kidd. We were very pleased with their workmanship and the quality of the job performed. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing their services.
Description of Work: KIDD Enterprises / Your Dry Basement installed an advanced waterproof system in our basement that included a "Super Drain System" in a trench around the basement floor, a"health Safe" S.R. S. Unit and discharge, a Safe Shield Mold Release Treatment, and Enviro Seal Wall Treatment including the crawl space. They installed R.V.B. to seal the drain system and recementedI the trench. They treated the walls in the crawl spacethe same way, and they put a Flexi Seal over the crawl space and sealed it to the wall. They concreted the floor drains with Water Stop Concrete and installed 3 Enviro View Windows along with a clean up of the window wells. They sealed all exposed wall cracks and installed 4 "H" Beam structural supports on one wall that was starting to cave in. They also provided some topsoil to fill in the sink hole outside that was created by the caved in wall. Before they started, they sealed everything in the basement with plastic and duct tape, even up the steps to prevent dust from the drilling getting on everything. They used drop cloths taped to the floor to cut down on soil and dust where they walked through the hall to the basement. This was removed at the end of each day, and the floor was cleaned and area dusted. They hauled away all debris immediately.

See above answer.
Description of Work: Extensive work to ensure I don't get water in my basement: - removed/treated mold on walls - jack-hammered in a French drain, 18" deep around perimeter. This was much deeper than the other companies offered. - They removed the oil tank so they could both treat mold on wall behind it as well as dig the drain around the perimeter. Other companies suggested digging the drain out into the space around the tank rather than removing and reinstalling it. - Repainted walls with up-to-date moisture sealant - Installed dry-basement-specific "molding" around perimeter to prevent seepage - Installed drain around entire internal perimeter - Tied drain into outside drains - Installed sump pump system, with battery back-up - Also, at no additional cost, moved Radon system so less intrusive in room - hid it back in a corner. Enabled me to remove unneeded radon pipes from ceiling - Went above and beyond with the customer service: tidied tools DAILY, swept and cleaned DAILY, reconnected my laundry DAILY, and many other little extras so that I would not be inconvenienced. - I'm sure I'm overlooking a few things.... Also, because they discovered my entire foundation was on extremely solid limestone, the job took over a week longer than estimated due to the drilling time required. They did not cut corners and they did not try to charge me more. The owner seems extremely knowledgeable, having a background working in all aspects of the quarry business. He shows up regularly on-site, will participate in the labor along with his workers, and seems concerned about his own reputation and completing the job right. He noted that unlike with other trades there are NO REGULATIONS GOVERNING THIS BUSINESS IN PA so anyone can set up this type of business without any experience or training, and that he has tried unsuccessfully to work on this issue with his representative in the PA House. He says lots of his business is re-doing poorly executed work by fly-by-night companies that really don't know what they are doing. He seems very serious about guaranteeing his own work and notes that many of these dry basement places build fine print into their guarantees that leave the client hanging when their basement again springs a leak. When spending this much money, I researched a lot about the process beforehand and asked a LOT of question of contractors. I only invited out companies with good Angie's List and/or BBB ratings. This owner gave me satisfactory, intelligent answers to them all. And, if I remember correctly, he was the ONLY company owner who came out to talk to me. It was evident he had done this work himself many times, knew his trade, and wanted to maintain an excellent reputation. As for my basement? So far, so good....

They are on the expensive side but they actually did it right. We have an older home so they had to do some extensive work. They had to take out all of the paneling so they could seal the walls and dig the trench system. They have their own self contained sump pump and their own type of coating/sealing that they put on the walls. They also cleaned any mold and mildew that was behind the walls they took down. They did what they said they would do and the men were very courteous, let us know when they would be there, and were very professional.
