Doc seemed knowledgeable and professional, came from Carlisle to Newport - about a 45-minute drive. He got back to me with an estimate in about 3 days. I ultimately chose to go with a different contractor who used different (less expensive, and granted, less long-lasting) materials. I respect Doc's commitment to using the materials he believes in. I would call him again for future estimates.

I have been very pleased with Doc's work and plan to use him again for additional remodeling projects in my home. I would definitely recommend him to any friend or family member who was looking for remodeling services. My frustration with many home repairmen is that they don't take the time to discuss anything with you (either choices you could make in how things will look, or issues that come up during the remodeling.). Doc listens to you about what you want done and he takes the time to explain to you what he can do, the various options, why something will or will not work, etc. He has met me at Home Depot to show me which materials I could choose from and help me pick things out. His estimates are quite detailed and he is honest and up-front about how involved a project will be. During the process, he keeps you updated on how things are going and the estimated time for completion. He is very accessible and there are no surprises. My other frustration with home repairmen is that they do the job you hired them to do but pay no attention to the damage they cause in your home (everything from tracking mud on your carpet to scuffing up floors or putting dents in walls). Unexpected things often occur during remodeling and you need someone who is on top of things. When Doc replaced my siding and shutters, he brought a team of workmen to get the large project done in just a few days. He made sure that the workmen did not damage the landscaping around the house. He made sure that the considerable debris was cleared out of the yard before it could hurt the grass. When the original siding was removed, it tore a few holes in some of our window screens, and Doc took the screens out, had them restored and put them back in with no hassle. These are just examples of how Doc oversees the entire project from start to finish and makes sure everything is done right. No home repair project gets completed without a few unanticipated issues. But when I hire Doc, I know that I will be able to discuss anything with him, that I won't have to invest a lot of personal time in the project and that he will take care of every detail to my satisfaction. He values me as a customer and wants me to be happy with the final product.
