I spoke to this young man about buying some firewood in Nov. of 2013. He quoted me $330. for a cord of seasoned hardwood. I asked him specifically if the wood was seasoned. He said it was. I should have asked him when he cut it, but I didn't. I told him I had a small fire place insert and could not use anything longer than 18" or 15'' in circumference. Like all the kids today, he said "No Problem". He brought the wood when I was not here, dumped it and collected a check. When I got a chance to look at the pile I could see that most of it was too large in circumference. I was upset that he had not listened to my me, but I needed the wood so I spent the weekend splitting it. The next week when I tried to burn some I discovered it was too "green" an would not burn! I called the young man and told him the wood was not seasoned. He argued and said they had cut it the previous May!! I told him that 6 months is not long enough to season hardwood. It takes more like a year and half. At that point he told me that I did not know anything about wood and called me a "stupid old man". The conversation deteriorated from there. I should have dealt with a "grown up".

The wood was not cut to the length specified. Much of it was too long. It was not split small enough to use in my stove. I had to pay a guy a day's labor to split it smaller. Then when we tried to burn some of it we discovered it's too green to burn. It will have to sit until next year. Since, they had told me it was seasoned wood. I called them about the wood being green. Note: Hardwoods like oak, hickory and locust take a year or year and a half to season. A tree service should know that. I asked them how long the firewood had been down. They now said they had cut it this summer. Five or six months ago! When I told them that was not long enough to be sold as seasoned wood the guy laughed at me and called me a "stupid old f--ker" He offered to come pick up the wood and give a refund. I told him I had paid a guy to split it and stack it. I told him what I wanted was seasoned firewood. He laughed again and the conversation deteriorated rather rapidly.
