+ -1 moreCalled on a Thursday, made an appointment for Tuesday between 9am and 11am. Slightly after 12pm called to see where my technician was. Told could be another couple of hours. Seems that after waiting 5 business days, someone else was more important. Told them to forget it. Found another company without using Angie’s list and got my air conditioning fixed.

+ -1 moreI just had a really good experience. I’ve used them twice in the recent. I have no clue on the cost, he hasn’t charged me. It’s not going to be much, coolant’s maybe $50, it’s not going to be ridiculous.
Description of Work: My air conditioner quit blowing cold air, so I called him at 7 o'clock on a Thursday night and he was here at 10 o'clock on a Friday morning, and these guys were hammered. So yeah, it was very responsive. Good guy, real nice guy. He had to put some more coolant in it, he didn't have enough time to do a full troubleshooting.

Description of Work: WE had a hot water boiler that also heats the domestic hot water installed in early fall 2015.This was a first time install of this type of boiler for Tim and Joe. There were a few issues,being this was a learning experience, but they were corrected without trouble and in a timely manner. We couldn't be more pleased with our new boiler and Tim and Joe's professionalism.

+ -1 moreOur humidifier hasn't worked since we moved into our house. We recently had a heating issue and used our home warranty service to come out and look at the furnace and humidifier. They told us the humidifier panel was blown and we needed a new system. Called Tudi for a second opinion (because they serviced our system through the previous home owner). They quoted us $640 to replace it. Called North PGH Heating at recommendation of a family member. All we needed was a new panel. We did NOT need a new humidifier! $100 to fix!!

+ -1 morealthough I decided to buy through Costco since I am an executive member there, tim was a close second. he had come out on a weekend to repair my unit and went the extra mile in checking the capacitor, leaks, etc...his bid was pretty good but I decided to go with a lennox special. he sells rheems, which are not bad but I think lennox got better reviews on consumer reports. btw, he was also nice enough to offer free use of a room unit.

+ -1 moreThe work was excellent. I liked pretty much everything; prompt response from initial call. I was experiencing a heat wave and the AC broke down. They responded virtually immediately late in the day. They outlined what the situation was all about. I came to realize that the unit was well beyond the useful life and I had to get a replacement. I had them do the replacement. The service was pretty outstanding. The price worked otherwise I would not have picked them. I was really thrilled with the whole experience. They really sort of exceeded expectations.

+ -1 moreI didn't know what was causing the problem. Tim came out right away and identified the issue. He placed insulation around the fan unit and made repairs to the fan itself which was installed improperly. He didn't charge me and told me he would call back to verify the issue was fixed. He was a professional and nice guy that day. My issue is that a few days later I noticed the problem was not resolved and the insulation was spreading the condensation to a larger area of my ceiling. I called Tim and he told me he would come out that day. My mother in law watches our son during the day and she stayed there all day waiting. Tim never showed up and never called. I called him back the next day and said I understand things come up please let me know when you can come back. I never heard from him again. Disappointing because his company has high marks on this site. I wasn't charged so I was only ripped off by having my time wasted. In my opinion if someone doesn't want a job at least man up, answer the phone and tell me that.
Description of Work: My bathroom fan was having gathering condensation due to a leaking hvac duct. The condensation was resulting in wet ceiling.

+ -1 moreI called North Pittsburgh Heating and Cooling, they came out the next day to do the first inspection for leaks. Because of my health issues and the abnormally cool temperatures we had for 3 weeks the addition of the coolant had to wait. The 15th was the first day the weather was warm enough to do it. Tim came out, put the coolant in and pressurized the a/c. No leaks were found by him. He discussed my choices..try the coolant and pressure or buy a new unit. We decided to try the 1st option, if that doesn't work for the season, then we will go with a new unit.
Description of Work: He checked for leaks in the tubing, at the connections and the a/c itself for leaks. Last summer the a/c was losing coolant, the company I was dealing with at that time just kept telling me they couldn't find a leak so I'd need to replace the a/c.

+ -1 moreOverall this was a smooth job. Since the first one I've had done with NPH, they've gotten progressively better in terms of the responsiveness and organization things. In all cases I've found their work impeccable.
Description of Work: This is the fourth or fifth time we have used North Pittsburgh Heating - three of which were major replacements. We have two heat pumps in our home. NPH replaced the first one about 2 years ago, and we had them back out to replace the other one today. In between these two they also replaced our water heater and came out for a couple service calls prior to the old units failing. I found their prices to be better than anyone else who quoted, and I have found their work first rate on all occassions. They are courteous, professional and thorough. They did many things that I didn't ask for (a couple I didn't even know about), all as part of the job. They did this on all occassions that they came to our house. During this most recent job, they saw that the base and gravel unit the outside unit for the first job had gone out of level due to general ground errosion in the area. They re-leveled and base, and installed new stone around both the previous and new units. We did have the issues that a few others have mentioned about responsiveness (maybe just overall organization of time, follow-up, etc). It was never an issue for me, because after the first job, I made up my mind that I would use Tim and NPH on my subsequent jobs, so I initiated the calls and stayed on top of the communication. I must say that with this job today, they appeared to be more on top of the scheduling, timing, etc., and i believe this is because they've made some changes in the way they manage the business. I have every confidence that they'll call to remind me about my routine 6 month and 1 year service on the new heat pumps, for instance, as opposed to me having to call and remind them. Time will tell. I think the root cause of these issues is that Tim and his guys are technical, and very good at what they do - and not so much on the sales side of the business that takes the organization and follow-up skills. This particular job that finished today was done in a very timely manner. I called on Saturday to inquire about a unit and work on scheduling, and my unit is completely installed on the following Friday.

+ -1 moreMoving to a new home. Furnace was showing age and I was not sure of how readily it had been serviced. I never had oil heat, so I required a basic review of the operation of the unit. I am glad I called. Tim at North Pgh. Heating was prompt, called when he thought that he may be late and turned out that he was on time. Found out that the furnace had been serviced but not thoroughly, a large amount of gunk build up, which he had me take a look at. He took the time to clean it out where it appears others did not. Found out that the furnace is the original unit placed in this home when it was built. (1984) Blower motor had been replaced with a used motor and it was showing signs of fatigue. Tim recommended a few furnaces and air conditioners as replacements. This won't happen until later in the summer. Overall, very professional, imformative and good personality. I feel real comfortable recommending North Pittsburgh Heating to anyone requiring this type of service.

+ -1 moreI got a same day response call after I contacted North Pittsburgh via email on Angie's List and I was very pleased with that turn around time. An appointment for a quote was scheduled for two days out which I was also happy with. The day of the scheduled appointment, I received a phone call asking if the appointment could be moved to later in the day which I agreed to. Almost 2 hours after the rescheduled time, I received another phone call that he was on his way. Once he was here, he did a thorough job to understand the problem, drew pictures, and shared his ideas with me. I was told that he would email me the estimate. I never received the quote and have called 3 times in the past month leaving a voice mail all 3 times asking for the quote to be sent to me. I have never received a response from those inquiries. I will not be using North Pittsburgh for my HVAC needs.

Description of Work: Started out purchasing a new AC unit then found out the furnace also needed replaced. Tim and staff were able to complete the full job in 3 days. They were easy to deal with, answered all our questions and did a great job cleaning up.

+ -1 moreWe had Tim come out to replace our 20 year old furnace in a home we just purchased, and ended up also replacing the a/c and the water heater in the process. We also added a whole house humidifier. Tim did a great job and was very conscious about making sure he kept everything neat and clean in the house (even though he was working in our unfinished basement). Once he started to take apart our old unit, he discovered that the previous owners had replaced the exterior a/c unit at some point, but not the coil. He walked us through all of our options (replacing our whole a/c system, or just part of it, etc.). He presented us with a number of options at varying costs so that we could choose a solution based on our budget. In the end, we decided just to replace everything because there was a good rebate running at the time. We were very happy with Tim's work and the new furnace. We haven't used the a/c yet. The only issue was with scheduling...the install started a day late and took an extra day to complete. Tim was very apologetic about the delay and gave us a little something extra for the inconvenience....all in all it was a good experience and we would definitely use him again.

+ -1 moreAfter deciding on the model of equipment we wanted, it took a few days before the job could begin. We paid 1/2 down before the job started, then the other half upon completion. Since we started our project right when we had the worst heat wave in years, Tim had some service calls for other people - and that was OK...I would want him to come for me. Once he got started, the whole job went smoothly, and we are sitting in a nice cool house. There were no problems. It was a great experience.
Description of Work: We had a new furnace and air conditioner installed in our home. Tim took the time to give us an estimate and explain all of our options. He is very thorough. His work is extrememly neat and precise. He fabricates whatever duct work he needs for the job. After the job was done, he explained everything we needed to know in detail. There are a lot of HVAC contractors in the Pittsburgh area, but I don't think any of them is as conscientious as Tim.

+ -1 morePittsburgh North Heating came in a very timely fashion. The furnace did not need to be replaced. A small blower just needed to be replaced. The cost was considerably less than replacing the entire furnace. The part itself was only a couple hundred dollars. We were supplied with electrical ceramic heaters for immediate comfort and safety. The next day the part was replaced within minutes as opposed to removing and replacing the entire furnace. The entire process was performed in a clean and safe timely fashion. While discussing the process and subsequent follow up visit to install the new part we learned we have made new good friends in addition to knowing a true professional! The comfort of knowing we have a close reliable professional for our heating, air conditioning, and hot water heaters, etc., needs is a very comforting feeling. The honesty of this company saved us from over a $7,000.00 dollar mistake. The dollar difference alone is proof how honest and reliable this company is. We now know we can rely on this company for future maintenance and if needed emergency service. The entire job was finished before the weather turned extremely cold. PNH was kind, courteous, intelligent, and most of all honest. Their competence reflects a high standard of excellence. We are warm, safe, and comforted by thought we can rely on this company for future needs.
Description of Work: A furnace was properly diagnosed and was repaired in record fast time. While waiting for the part to be obtained we were supplied with electrical heaters for immediate comfort. Prior to this we were taken advantage of by a large company which uses less than appropriate advertisement. The first diagnostic check was erroneous and we were told the entire furnace needed to be replaced. The next day a quote of over $7,000.00 was given for a substandard furnace. Before signing on the dotted line we were tipped off by a kind and generous neighbor. Next we had Pittsburgh North Heating come for a second opinion.
