Description of Work: Of all my years of hiring contractors, I have never run into an incompetent company as Home Improvement Center. Our project consisted of removing the drywall from the ceiling of the kitchen, installing recessed lighting and putting up new drywall. They were also going to remove existing cabinets and install new cabinets. The project also involved replacing the tub, sink, and commode from the bathroom, and installing laminate flooring in kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and 2 foyers. The salesman/designer seemed to be knowledgable about kitchen/bath remodeling and also made some good suggestions. He helped us order the cabinets and was supposed to oversee our project, but was fired 1 week into the project. The owners were friendly and could talk the talk but, as I found out, were professional scam artists. The crew were a bunch of misfits, the one worker had to leave early everyday to check in with his probation officer. The owners did not inform me that I would be having an ex con working in my home. They started the project by removing the drywall from the ceiling in the kitchen. When I returned home from work, I found that they hadn't taped up plastic to protect the rest of the house from the massive amount of dust that they created. It took me 2 weeks to finally clean up all the dust, which found it's way to every room in the house, including the basement. They next attempted to install the cabinets. I returned home from work and was happy to see the cabinets installed. However, when I opened the door to the cabinet above the refrigerator, I saw a minimum of 15 screw holes, only 3 actually had screws in them. It seems the way this crew locates studs, is to keep putting in screws until you finally hit one. Much easier than measuring. The next attempt was to install a bar along a half wall and it was to wrap around an existing 6" X 6" post. The post was not on the same plane as the wall, so when they went to install the bar top, it rocked leaving a 3" gap at either the wall or the post. They told me it was no big deal, that they would just install a piece of trim against the wall to cover up there mistake. If they would only have placed a straightedge against the wall and the post, they could have had the bar top manufactured to fit correctly. The piece of trim looks exactly like what it is (a cover up of a mistake). Then came the laminate floor. I did a lot of research when picking the floor and I also downloaded the instructions for installing the floor that they ordered for me. When I returned home from work that day, I found the crew installing the floor, and NOT using the method described in the installation instruction, which included a statement saying that if not installed as per instructions, the warranty is void. I again confronted the crew about it and they assured me that their way was good enough. Each incident was explained to the owners, who could not give me a reason for their shoddy work, or a way to make it right. They insinuated that I was being a difficult customer. Maybe I was, but I expect competent work (which was promised) to be done in exchange for my hard earned money. I definitely would NOT recommend this company to do even the most minor repair on your homes.
