Apex Construction & Remodeling

Our experience with Apex Construction began on a great note. The team was extremely nice and timely in getting back to us with our bid and construction plans. As we got into the project more, we were disappointed with the long time frame, lack of attention to detail, and poor communication. The workers were very hardworking and we do not believe that the lack of detail was intentional, it just was not up to the standards that they originally communicated. The rework, as a result, ultimately caused the project to take 4 months, which was much longer than expected and communicated by Apex. For the price and initial plan communicated, we expected a timely and high quality final product, but that was not what we feel we ended up with. Overall the project looks good, but we will be choosing another company for any future projects.

The job took one and a half days. The first day the owner, Steve, showed up with his two workers. Steve stayed to supervise fixing the subfloor and installing the new front door. Once the door was installed Steve left. That is when the problems started. The one worker took at least an hour to install the deadbolt and door knob. The deadbolt wasn't recessed in the door jamb causing the door not to close properly. The deadbolt also wasn't aligned properly so it wouldn't work. I called Steve and he said they would fix it when they come back on the second day. On the second day Steve's workers returned to finish the interior work and caulk the outside of the door. They also "fixed" the deadbolt although I had to use a dremel to fine tune the deadbolt striker plate so you don't have to place your entire body weight on the door to use the deadbolt. A few days after they were done I noticed water marks on the interior corner of the door and the new trim they installed. I called Steve and left a message asking him to come out and look at it. He has never called me back. I had to further inspect the door and found that they did not completely caulk around the door. Overall his workers showed a low level of professionalism and attention to detail. I would not hire the again especially since he can't even call me back to fix a defect with their work.
