I have a 2 story breakfast area that actually had a chandelier hanging down but was a nuisance and very ugly. I figured instead of having another chandelier put in its place it was suggested that we put in recessed lights using the LED dimmable bulbs. Sounded like a great idea. I was having my 2 story foyer and breakfast area ceiling painted (one continuous ceiling) and figured before it was painted I might as well have the chandelier removed and the recessed lighting installed. I originally called my regular electrician but their quote was quite higher than what I expected to spend so I went to Angie's and I called R. J. He came out and gave me a quote for half of what my regular electrician was going to charge me so I set up the appointment for the same day the painters were starting. R.J. called me that morning and informed me that one of his crew was out sick and the other was having car problems and wanted to know if he could reschedule. I informed him that the painters were starting and it would be kind of difficult for them to work around this and he said, "ok, hold on for a bit and let me see what I can arrange and I'll call you back and let you know if we can get out there". About an hour later he called and said he would be out there by 11:30 and he was. He really came through. He explained to his crew what was to be done and informed me that they would only be a few hours. His crew members that performed the work were very thorough, efficient, polite and neat. They did a great job of the installation and of the clean up. By the time they were done you would have never known that there had been a chandelier hanging in the same spot. I will definitely use R. J. Little again in the future since I still have a several electrical updates/needs to complete. He and his crew were great!
Description of Work: 2 story chandelier removed and had 5 recessed lights installed in same area

Terrific. Rich had the motion detector installed 18mo ago, and recently it stopped working. Called Rich to fix, and he arrived on time as planned, took it apart, and saw one of the connections was loose (root of the problem). He fixed and didn't charge us a thing, even though it was well over a year since he had it installed. What service! We'll continue to use Rich for all our electrical and lighting needs.

They charged too much for what they did. I was looking for an estimate, not for them to actually do it. Then he just did it, so I had to pay him. I asked for an estimate for some more work. They sent a letter 5 weeks letter with an estimate that was way too high.

I turned on a switch and the circuit breaker flipped and knew there was a problem. I called him and he answered the phone and came later that afternoon. He explained what the problem likely was and then identified the source of the problem. He fixed the issue and put everything back the way it was. I will be using him for work in the future, work I had been putting off because it is hard to find a good electrician! I would definitely recommend using him and his company. I will update when I have the new work done.

Joined Angie's list when i purchased townhouse. had no idea of who to use, nor any neighbors to get references from. Selected this comapny, met with the owner and oulined plans (before closing on the house). Drew up the plans for my new design for the kitchen and job was completed on time, in budget and showed up for work promptly as promised. Felt comfortable enough to give him key for house has had no house-sitting capabilities being a single owner.

Please see above. Mr Little showed up on time. He was straight forward and honest. He ran several diagnostics and was able to repair the problem quickly. I then pointed out several other things I wanted done and he quoted me a good price. I asked him about another project that involved removing a fuse box and rewiring all of that. He was honest enough to tell me it would be VERY expensive and not necessary.
Description of Work: I woke up Sun morning to a power failure in my bathroom. No lights, no fan. Rich came out today and tracked back the problem to a plug in the bedroom that had failed. He checked another plug in another bedroom that was on the same circut. He was able to diagnose the problem quickly and fixed it. He rewired the plug that had caused the problem. He did a great job and I will use him again.

They were very professional and punctual! They trouble-shot and diagnosed the issue in a short time--and corrected it. I had an electrician from another company come out previously that never even tested the grounding and told me I needed a separate line for my television, which is not needed and would have been very costly. I called RJ Little on a Friday evening and they were able to come out first thing on Monday morning--which worked out great as I was having a new television delivered the same day and needed the work done prior to delivery. I am very satisfied with the service RJ Little provided and would highly recommend them! I plan on having them come back at a later date to do more work! I feel they are very trust-worthy and I feel safe knowing that they did a thorough job. I give them a A+++++++++++++++!

Richard showed up to the estimate appointment right on-time. He was very courteous and patient, although I was working with another contractor on another project at the same time (overlapping appointments on my part!). He was given a walk-through of the house, to survey our list of problems. To our surprise he fixed one of our major problems right there on-the-spot, free-of-charge, by flipping the breaker back on (embarrassing moment). What made this stand out in our minds is that two previous contractors didn't even look at the problem, they just gave us an estimate on what it would cost for them to look at it. After setting up the work schedule with him, he arrived right on-time with his crew and they setup the work area and started. From 8am until almost 4pm these guys did not stop. The guys were very kind, respectful, and took the time to explain what they were doing and answered all of our questions -- This means a lot to us because we are homeowners: we need to understand all the systems in our home. When the guys were finished with the work, the picked up any and all dirt, parts, etc from the surrounding areas where they worked and walked through, picked up their drop cloths, and swept up after themselves. The estimate was exactly what we paid. There were no hidden charges or surprises at the end of the day. His prices were very competitive with other regional contractors. We feel that the service we received was well-worth the price we paid and will call Richard if/when we need any additional electrical services on our property.

I am sorry that he feels under appreciated. I am sure he is a great guy and maybe I 'have no clue' about his value. During his visit, he showed no signs of ill temper or anything like that. Bottom line: He solved one problem--five minutes of his time. I still have the outlet problem--ten minutes of his time and he could have fixed it on the first visit by replacing the faulty parts. Cost: $139. These are my only clues to his value. His email makes me uncomfortable.
Description of Work: Two problems: A GFCI (circuit breaker) was tripped and an outlet does not work. I paid $139 for a visit. He showed up and was nice. He was correct that my first problem was a tripped GFCI; I found it and reset it. Then I asked him to look at an outlet. He took it apart in ten minutes and it started working. He put it together and left. Now it does not work and I asked him to fix it for the cost of parts. His email response is as follows: "Randy, you are killing me. 'Better value' . You got a great value, My competitors charge 150.00 each and every time they go out, plus labor and materials. I diagnosed the outage and was able to point out a serious flaw with the GFCI receptacles. It cost me money in fuel, time , insurance , I have to pay uncle Sam and the governor so out of the 139.00 you learned a lot, got a great service , great response and a great value for your buck. when all the expences are paid what did I really make 80 or 90 dollars. So the 85.00 charge to come out and replace two outlets is a great deal for you because it certainly is not making me any income just covering my expence. I am a licensed professional and have 30 plus years of experience. My trade hourly wage is 120.00 an hour. Plus port fees. I can see you don't have a clue as the value of my services. Not everybody does, not your fault. I am always fair and then some and ..well you know what they say , no good deed goes unpunished. I do not negotiate and if you are looking for cheap labor you need to hire someone else. I hate being so blunt but I have a business to run and a life to live. Working at 0 profit won't get me anywere but broke. Regards Rich"

Response from R J Little LLC Electrical Services
First off..I tried to Help the client over the phone and he said he did reset all the breakers and GFCI's. That alone would have saved him the service charge. The member had an outage that needed diagnosed. He states he "fixed it" not the case I fixed it. He forgets that he had me look at several other things while I was there and give him prices on different jobs he wanted done. Then, still looking for me to do some more , asked if I could look at a receptacle that does not work. I took apart two receptacles and found that the receptacles are just very cheap and may be the cause...it started working as soon as I touched it. I put them back together and advised him that he should have me back to change out the receptacles throughout the home because they are a problem. The receptacle was working when I left. I received an email from the member two days later....the receptacle was not working and could I come out for free to give him a better value for the 139.00 he paid. I quoted him 85.00 to return and repair two or more receptacles. That was not good enough , he wanted more of a discount. He referred to me only taking 5 minutes...I was there for 1/2 hour....I had an 1 hour round trip to and from so the 5 minutes was really 1 hour and 1/2. In the service industry time is money. That is why there are service fees to cover all that travel time. Otherwise I and others would be working 80 hours a week to produce 40 hours of billable time. Service fees are an Industry standard. This is not something I just made up. He is the type of client that does not appreciate or take into consideration my time and what it is worth. My E-mail was to educate him ...but as you can read it made him uncomfortable. Maybe the member should wear my shoes for a week or so...maybe that would give him a better perspective of what it cost to have a professional do work. Like I said in my email to him...no good deed goes unpunished.

I called for an estimate and they set an appointment for the same day. I rearranged my schedule for an afternoon appointment for the estimate. We are in southern Chester county.

After speaking with the client , she needed a hot tub hooked up. I tried to get an idea from her as to were she lived. She lead me to believe that she was close to the 202 / rt 1 which is about as far as I go. The morning I set out for the appointment my GPS showed she was much further south. That's when I called and asked her if there was anyone closer to her, she told me others were coming out to give her an estimate also. I respectfully declined the estimate (it was not a scheduled job). I told her it makes more sense to find someone closer to her that can serve her better. With this economy I am being careful just how far we go. That estimate would have cost me about 2.5 hours of travel my time and fuel. That was just to do an estimate. I was being polite by calling and respectful. I know there are others closer to her that will serve her well also. Just makes sense. What doesn't make sense is giving me a "C" rating because she was upset I declined. That makes no sense.

Explained above. Would call Rich again for any electrical needs
Description of Work: Rich worked at my home in West Chester, and a Townhome I lease out in Wilmington. At my home in West Chester ( 7,600' feet) I had been changing an outdoor spotlight 30 feet off the ground when It shorted out that circuit. Rich came out the next day, and spend most of that day searching in almost every room for the wiring that had been wired incorrectly for years. It was a extremely difficult problem to isolate. He even came back on the next day (Sunday) to finish. When he left everything was complete and safer, too. He then came back to pre-wire a very large outdoor electrical cable to our new hot tub from the electric panel, and installed a new 60 AMP GFI breaker. On the final trip he hooked up the new Hot Tub and everything worked well. At the Townhouse he installed 5 (five) new ceiling fans/with lights. Installed some dimmers where needed and put a wireless keypad outside our garage Overhead doors. Cleaned up well, and was very professional.

The new ballast was installed, but it took a couple trips to get the parts right. Was going to put timers on the front lights, but after a few trips with the wrong parts again, calls unanswered and cancelled appts, decided not to go forward with the job. No invoice at first for the new ballast installed, but did get one eventually when I asked for one - however, I asked for a breakdown by labor and parts - but just got a lump charge. Also, wouldn't take the Angie's list coupon - said because I got such a good deal. Overall, was disappointing.

What she did not tell was that she needed late afternoon appointments which were hard to promise. I spoted a hole leading to the outside that I told her she should seal up and she was more concerned with the hole more so then anything else. I did that for her and no mention of that . The can of fire proof foam cost almost 10,00 which is all she paid for that. She cancelled after ordering 3-way timers for her and I was stuck with the stock in hand and a check for 10.00. I never charged her a service charge for diagnosing her problem the first time and only charged her for the ballast and labor 150.00 at the second trip. Thus saving her a 89.00 dollar service charge. The only thing holding me up on instaling the timers was the correct face plate so that it would be correct. She cancelled after I ordered a special plate for her. I think the member really doesn't see the vale I gave her and that sometimes it takes a couple of trips to get all of the correct materials for the job. There was something she was uncomfortable with and I will never know why. Especially since I pointed out two things that have nothing to do with my trade , just thought she should be aware of as a homeowner. She did take my advice but gave me a "C". Go Figure.

I got to know of them through Angie?s List. They had done a great job with my electrical devices, and I really appreciate what they did. They were very courteous, helpful, and professional. It had all worked out really well. They had done a fantastic job at a reasonable price, and I am very satisfied by their work.
Description of Work: I had used RJ Little to fix my air conditioner. I had also broken a switch in the bathroom and I had to have them come out and check. They had installed GFCI switches in our house. There were five different receptacles, four in the kitchen and one in the dining room. They had found some improper grounding in the transfer switch, and had come here a couple of times to check out the problem. They had installed an extra circuit breaker in my electric box downstairs.
