They did an excellent job. Electrician was very thorough and friendly and good to work with, answered all of my questions. Arrived on time and was very courteous while in my home. I've now had 2 experiences with this company, have dealt with 2 of the Martellas, and I'd recommend this company to friend. They appear to focus on (a) excellence/quality in their work, (b) safety and (c) customer satisfaction. I like their set pricing methodology, based on the job(s) performed, so the pricing appears to be very fair. Electrical work is not cheap these days, but my overall experience is that this company represents very good value, and I'll use them again if I need them.

The electrican arrived on time and first thing before entering put on booties to protect my carpet. He first explained how they price various services and showed me the list which showed the price for each service. I then explained what I needed and showed him around. He checked out the work to be done and gave me his estimate. I accepted and he went to work, he was done in no time at all and everything was done very professionally. He gave me a coupon for money off the next time I needed service and also explained a service contract that they offer. There was no pressure to purchase anything. I paid for his services which was the estimate given. He was polite, Professional, & courteous. I will definately use this company again and I highly reccommend them.

Called Martella Electric regarding the installation of 2 ceiling fans and repair that is needed to an electrical short in our two bathrooms. When I explained that I was hoping to get a general, "best case" scenario of the costs associated with the work, particularly the ceiling fan installation work, the gentlemen who answered the phone flatly refused saying it would be improper for him to do so. When I explained that I liked what was written about them on Angie's list, and how -- because of being "hood-winked" on price with a prior electrician years ago -- we thought it was best to contact at least 3 electricians to get general estimates. We did not want to incur his $69 service fee for just driving out to our home. I found it strange that the "advertising pitch" he was most excited about was that his electricians were all drug-tested and that I didn't need to be fearful in my home. (In all my years, I have never had a service man come to my door that frightened me, so I found this an odd reason to choose this company, rather than a competing company. I find price-gouging to be more of a concern.) Maybe, Martella Electric is a very fine company with fair and reasonable prices. But since I choose to only hire companies that provide either free estimates or, at minimum, a general, best-case scenario price quote to allow me to determine whether I am walking onto a "Kia," "Ford," or "Mercedes-Benz" lot, I will never know. So if you are hopefully to receive a free price quote and/or estimate, Martella is not the company to use your Verizon minutes on.

Response from Martella Electric
Beware of any contractor giving ball park prices over the phone. This does not help anyone. We have customers who had the "hood wink" happen to them with over the phone pricing. It is not an ethical system. Every home is different and the conditions are never the same. We charge by the job not by the hour. The $69 dispatch / service fee is simply explained this way. It costs money to send out a Drug Free, Criminal Background checked, Professionally Trained, Licensed Electrician with a truck full of parts called our "Wharehouse On Wheels" to be prepared to give a price in writing on the spot and complete the work the same day saving our customers time and frustration. I will not put the safety and welfare of my customers at risk by having a lower ethical and moral standard. All of our work is backed up by our exclusive 100% money back guarantee. That simply states if you are not completely satisfied with the service we perform you don't pay...period. We guarantee all repairs for three years. Some installations we guarantee for 10yrs and others for life. You see we answer our phones 24/7 with live customer service representatives ready to take your call and book an appointment at a time that is convenient for you. We schedule our appointments in 2hr windows so you don't have to wait arround all day. We also guarantee to arrive inside this window. If we are even one minute late we waive the $69 dispatch/service fee. I tried to explain all of this to the member but she was not interested in learning about the valuable services we provide to our customers.

I had used Martella previously to install a new line for the dryer in my basement, so I knew they would do a thorough and professional job. The new panel was something I really needed. They also marked all of the breakers for me so that I know which one covers what part of the house. I am very pleased with their work. They are always on time, courteous, and thoroughly professional.

The tech that came and looked at the job was on time and attired professionally. He looked at the job and he seemed to think it was much more difficult then I thought. I wasn't happy with the pricing method of using a laminated pricing sheet. It didn't make me feel like he was pricing my job specifically. More like he was trying to fit my job into their matrix. I just felt impersonal. He placed the cost in the 750 dollar plus range which seemed way out of line for the work. Every other company that I called said they would do it for $250.00; $450.00 max if it was difficult. In his call to me Mr. Martella attributed this differential to the amount of training, insurance, etc. that Martella employs with there techs. I don't dispute this. But I felt comfortable with the qualifications and protections of the other contractors as well. I bear no ill will toward Martella Electric. It just does not seem to have been a good match for me, for this job

Our handyman was replacing the bathroom vanity on Monday, and discovered we needed an additional electrical junction for the right hand light fixture (the previous installation ran both lights off the left junction). We called Martella Electric that day, and they tentatively scheduled us for Thursday, and were going to call us back Tuesday in case a spot on Wednesday opened up. They called back Tuesday and said there was an electrician available that day. He came out that afternoon and completed the work in short order. My only concern regards a surprise/misunderstanding on the pricing. There was a $65 "dispatch fee" that, based on the phone conversation when I scheduled the job, I understood to be to cover costs if we declined to use them for the job. That fee is evidently additional to the quoted price for the job, regardless of whether they do the work or not. I would have liked that to be more clear up front, as licensed electricians are expensive enough to begin with. Perhaps this is standard practice in the industry, this is my first experience with hiring an electrician. For most, smaller jobs like this one I would recommend going with a skilled handyman (or do it yourself). However we elected to go with a professional in this instance, as we were about to list our house for sale, and did not want any questions to arise regarding this work. I would recommend Martella Electric based on their promptness, skill, and professionalism. But you get what you pay for, and the job was rather pricey. Maybe I'm just in the wrong line of work!

I found the following excellent: a) estimate was clear, prompt, and based upon a good discussion on my requirements and Richard Martella's suggestions b) work was prompt, without any unnecessary disruption or mess in my home, and I was kept informed of progress and / or changes at all times c) making good of the plaster after running wires was professional d) the little touches (e.g. ordering a hard to obtain bulb for an outside light and coming by to replace it without any reminder)

The guys were very professional and punctual. I knew that I needed upgrades because I have an older home but didn't know exactly what should be done. We walked through the house, discussed pros and cons of what I had vs upgrades. I paid more for this service but other electricians that estimated the job weren't very thorough. I feel very safe and satisfied with the work that was done.
Description of Work: Upgrades including adding new outlets, replace old outlets, added GFI to laundry area, added surge protector. Some of the new outlets were added to upstairs bedrooms and required running wiring up through the walls. The walls were nicely patched when finished. Some of the existing outlets were upgraded to gounded outlets were neccessary.

I called them 4 times and left messages and my Realtor called them twice. They finally responded. They came over and told me that I needed a housewide surge protector, because the neighborhood "had surge problems", but another electrician (Holly Electric) told me that that was unnecessary. They still need to come over and fix the driveway ground lights, since the snow was a problem to get to them. We will see how unresponsive or responsive they are this time.
Description of Work: They troubleshot while all my second story driveway lights were out. They ended up changing my lightbulbs. The Realtor who sold me this house paid the bill, since they were supposed to work, when I moved in. They didn't have the lightbulbs in their truck and had to go buy them. Overall, it took them more than 2 hours to change 6 lightbulbs on the second story area of my home.

Responded promptly to my call. Carmen came out for the estimate and seemed very knowledgeable. He said he had been in the business for over 50 years. His price seemed rather high, but I decided to go with the extensive years in the trade thinking it would be worth the extra money. Work began shortly after. The two electricians on my job were neat and professional. As time moved along I became very dissatisfied. They were going to install a junction box in a completely inappropriate place which I luckily caught before it was done. The receptacles were not installed where we had initially discussed. After everything had been painted they came to install the fixtures. They had measured a wall outlet incorrectly so they had to create another large hole in the newly painted wall. Also the pendants were not centered properly over the sitting area. Some of the problem I feel was miscommunication or lack of between the owner and the two technicians.
Description of Work: Removed existing fuse panel in the basement and installed new 100 amp circuit breaker panel. Completely rewired new kitchen. Installed ceiling fan, under cabinet lights, recessed lights, pendant lights, and wiring for all appliances.

THE ISSUE WITH THE RECEPTACLES PLACED INAPPROPRIATELY WAS A BROUGHT TO THE MEMBER'S ATTENTION BY A CARPENTER NOT A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THE INSTALLATION. THE PENDANT LIGHT BOXES WERE PLACED WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS FROM THE LIGHT FIXTURE. WHEN WE WENT BACK TO FINISH THE JOB SHE SUBSTITUTED A DIFFERENT LIGHT FIXTURE CONSEQUENTLY THEY HAD TO BE RELOCATED CAUSING A DRYWALL REPAIR AND REPAINT. PERHAPS BETTER COMMUNICATION IS APPROPRIATE IN THE FUTURE.
