I called Mark about getting an estimate on the project, he called me back the next day and came out in the next few to review the scope of the work and give me an estimate. I already knew that his work was high quality because he did one of my neighbor's patios last year. We had gotten 2 other estimates on the project and they seemed a little high and frankly, were over our budget, so I was unsure as to weather we could get this done this year. Mark's price was much more reasonable and we even used the coupon which is on Angie's list, which saved us another $200. His team completed the project in just 2 days and the work was outstanding!! We are thrilled with our new patio!! I would recommend his services to anyone with confidence. Thanks Mark.

Mark came out and gave a detailed project plan and quote. His price was similar to other quotes I received, but his team sounded more capable and professional. True to their word, they showed up right on time all four days of the project. Joe, the project manager, explained the work to be completed each day and would call me with any items that needed to be addressed. I have nothing but good words to say about the whole project. The finished product is beautiful and high-quality. I will definitely call Greenstone for my next patio paver.
Description of Work: Townhouse paver patio. Full removal of hard-to access concrete patio. Dug out about 9" of dirt to create a level stone base. Fixed drainage issues as well.

Not good. While we did get some grass (with many weeds) in the back yard...the front yard is a disaster. We were careful to follow all instructions giving for watering and care. But the first seeding failed totally in the front lawn. The company did re-seed, after we complained that nothing grew in the front. But again, no results. We are stuck reseeding our front lawn ourselves. I think they did do a good job on putting up a fence and doing concrete walk....but no way would I recommend this company for seeding lawn.

Mark came out back in May and gave us a thorough explanation of what the project would entail. He provided a same day estimate. We also had another contractor come out, who gave us an estimate that was about $2000 more than Greenstone. We didn't choose Greenstone based on the price, we chose them because they explained every aspect of the project, were very professional. They gave us a timeline and an estimated date they could start the project. Mark and his son came out the following week, along with the job foreman. they again went through what the project would entail and made sure we were on board with what would happen. Mark's son supervised the job from start to finish. The foreman was excellent and told us every morning what he was going to do. They crew worked long and hard and had our patio ready for us for Labor Day, which was ahead of schedule. The patio and fire pit are gorgeous. After the patio was almost complete, we realized the old walkway wouldn't match up to the beauty of the patio so we asked about having the walkway, re-done with matching pavers. They did it for us right away and again, turned out very nice!! This was one of the most professional contractors that we have worked with. It was a pleasure doing business with them. We already plan to use them again.

Mark was wonderful! He knew exactly what was needed. He sat in my yard and told me what was wrong with our patio. The sitting wall was the wrong height, the size wasn't right, too close to the house. He made suggestions and we loved his ideas. And he respected and listen to what we wanted. Together we created our ideal yard. His crew was respectful and courteous. They worked their butts off. I know when we are ready to have that side wall done who we are calling.
Description of Work: Greenstone Gardens replaced our front slate walkway with beautiful EP Henry pavers. They also redid our yard patio, built a sitting wall around our patio (also EP Henry) and made our slopped yard level.

Can't say enough about the great job that Mark and his grew did on this project. From the day Mark came out to look at the project and presented me with an estimate within a half hour of his visit. Other contractors took anywyere from 2 to 3 weeks to even provide an estimate. Mark did stress the fact that they were very busy and weather would play an important part on when they could begin the project. But my main concern was getting the job done right and not when they could start. So it was worth the wait and we are very happy on how the project turned out.
Description of Work: Replaced approximately 125 foot retaing wall with EP Henry Terrace Wall blocks. Previous retaining wall was constructed of field stones that were starting to give and buckle in certain areas. The new retaining wall surrounds the perimater of the south side of our home which encloses our driveway, new paver patio, and deck. The new retaining wall from the front of the home is approximately 3 feet high and is graded to a height of 2 feet in the back of the home. They also installed 3 three foot cloumns constructed from the EP Henry Terrace Wall blocks. We also had the existing pavers on the side of our home replaced with EP Henry Dakota blend Old Town Coblle and they extended the pavers an additional 10 to 12 feet creating a patio which previously just included grass and dirt. The new patio is approximately 10 x 15 feet. They also included 1 to 3 inch river rocks between our back deck and the new retaining wall. This is about 2 feet wide by about 10 feet so it wasn't wide enough for a path but the river rock is a great touch which contrasts with the new pavers and wall but adds a unigue touch. They also replaced our front walk way with the same Old Towne Cobble and they built steps from the EP terrace blocks which leads from our new patio to a lower grass landing. They also added a 4 x 4 platform landing constructed with EP Heny pavers at the bottom of our new steps and off our deck in the back of the home. Finally they lined the perimeter of our existing flower bed with EP Heny Coblle stone which complemented the new pavers.

Mark came out initially and presented a beautiful walkway idea. He was creative with the colors and suggested a border which looked beautiful . The crew that came out was very professional and responsive and did a great job. We love the walkway and have received compliments from anyone that sees it. But unfortunately , we had a little settling and a small gap appeared between the stoop and the walkway. I contacted Mark about 2 months after he had installed it.(September 2013) He did come out and said he would fix it in the spring. It did take a while to resolve the issue but it has been done to our satisfaction. I would feel comfortable recommending Greenstone to any one that would ask.
Description of Work: They removed my old walkway and installed a new walkway. My original walkway had drooped below my front stoop and there was a glaring gap between the two. The team raised the base so that there wouldn't be a gap with the new walkway.

I feel most fortunate that I chose the Greenstone Gardens Company. Family and friends use the same word when they see my new patio by Greenstone Gardens - magnificent! And Greenstone Gardens was great to work with in every way. The design accommodated my home proportionally and stylistically very well. The demolition was swift and neat - great fun to watch the small Bobcats everyday. The hardscaping included blue stone and "designer" concrete walls - which look beautiful together. These men really know what they are doing and the quality of their work is excellent. In the space of 4 weeks that included a couple days off due to rain these men removed 400 square feet of concrete, excavated and shaped the land, installed 12 tons of blue stone, built two sets of EP Henry retaining walls, constructed two sets of stone stairs which included curved walls and openings, sunk 8 footers for the deck, installed low voltage lighting, expertly handled extensive drainage issues, and then finished off the project by installing 4000 square feet of sod. The crew were expert and I felt always had my best interests in mind when small and large decisions needed to be made when I was at work. I really appreciated that! The job was done timely and neatly. The workmanship, attention to detail, quality and communication with me were outstanding. Greenstone Gardens Company is a first-rate, family-owned and operated business which meant I was always talking to the caring, competent man in charge. I highly recommend them and their work.
Description of Work: Greenstone Gardens helped me to envision and then executed a complete redo of a 50 yr old concrete patio and surrounding pool area. They provided a landscape architect for a great design and created 800 sq ft of hardscaping with two retaining walls. My former patio needed to be demolished and the ground lowered 18" to accommodate a future deck overhead. In addition, they created drainage, installed lighting, planted sod, and sunk footers for the deck.

At first, Mark and the company were very responsive and came right out to give us an estimate on some minor masonry work. There was a mix-up regarding when the work would be completed, but to the company's credit they worked through that issue too after I clarified that the work needed to be done before our son's birthday party, which was scheduled for a couple of Saturdays later. Mark told me, on numerous occassions, that the timing was not a problem and that the work would be done before the party. The office confirmed that we were on the schedule for either Thursday or Friday the week of the party. No one showed up on Thursday and on Friday morning I called to confirm that someone would be coming that day. I did not receive a call back. I called again Friday afternoon. I did not receive a call back. I called early on Saturday to see there was any way to complete the work before the party that afternoon. I did not receive a call back. Only after I called another 3 or 4 more times (including a call to Mark's cell) did I ever even receive the courtesy of a return phone call. When Mark did call back he said that "the job was too small" for his company to undertake. This was the first time I heard that excuse. Also, it was a $300+ masonry job so I am not sure what that means. I am extremely disappointed with the level of service (or should I say lack of service because they never did the work!) I received and would not recommend this company to anyone.

Mark and his nephew were very good to work with. they were professional and responsive to our questions and concerns. They are good at what they do. they did a fine job and the backyard looks pretty good. Our only concern was that they were starting the work in summer and we were worried that the new grass may die in the heat. We are keeping the lawn wet to make sure our investment is protected. So far it has been good. I would use Greenstone Gardens any day and work with Mark and his nephew again if we ever need any landscaping work done. I would recommend them a 100%.

First-rate experience from estimate to completion. Mark, Mark Jr. and their hardscaping guys were everything you'd expect from a professional hardscaping company and more. They were the only ones to explain exactly what they were going to co in detail. None of this "just throw the pavers down and run." They properly excavated everything and took their time to ensure that the job was done correctly. Despite that, the work was done faster that I expected given that the worked a full Saturday. I let Mark choose the stone to match my stone house and could not be happier with his selection. They even did things that I never expected. His hardscaping guys are true craftsmen and very hard workers. This is a company with whom I expect to do considerably more business, and how many times do you say that when dealing with most contractors? Their landscape design guy is next, and I'm hoping for big things from him as well. If you're looking for a company to do what they promise at a reasonable cost and in a professional manner, you cannot go wrong with Greenstone Gardens.

It went very well. They were very prompt in getting back to me. These guys were quick to get back at me. They couldn't really schedule the job, the guy said that he was really booked but he could get out here in a week which he did but he said he would call the day before and told me when they were coming out but he never called so he just showed up and started doing the work which is fine, I was okay with that, I was just a little surprised when I came home and everything was done. They were just finishing up so fortunate I showed up on time to pay them. They did a fantastic job for me. They knew exactly what needed to be done and took care of it.

Mark and company did a fantastic job. I was quite pleased with the end product which consisted of a hardscape border with a flower bed surrounding a miniature Japanese maple and two other trees ( a full maple) and a blue spruce. Mark gave great advice and took the time to fully understand our desires. His people are extraordinarily hard working and eager to please. I would highly recommend their services to all members!

Guys were very easy to work with. They prepared a detailed design plan at no additional cost which was very helpful and showed up on time every day. Whenever a minor issue would pop up (which they always do on any project) they quickly addressed. It was about a 3 week project and they stayed on time and budget. They are definitely one of the few contractors out there who really deserve an Angies List A rating! 9/28/14 UPDATE: Have continued to have major drainage problems that although they have tried a couple of times to correct still does not work. Big part of backyard continues to be a mud pit which means we continue to have to clean off dog paws, kids cannot use that area to play and since there has been standing water there is bigger risk of mosquitos etc. Its really frustrating that this issue cannot seem to be solved which is why I am changing my overall grade to a C. The stonework was good, the bush planting has had some issues but the drainage so far has just not worked very well. If they are ever able to fix this issue I will consider changing rating, but this is a major problem so company has not earned an A rating in my opinion.

This experience was disappointing and ultimately a huge waste of time. The first time Mark came to our home, he was confident in his ability to complete the job for us in two days. He was so filled with bravado that he regaled us with a story of him saving his son from an accident that occured while working with him that nearly tore his arm off. This strory actually freaked me out a little and make me wonder about his safety standards. But he spoke about how he tends to do much bigger jobs and that since we had gotten in touch so early (our first contact was in the dead of winter), we would be #2 on his list once the ground thawed. March came and we asked him to come out again to make final decisions about the work and get a timeline going. We also found out, thanks to our Homeowner's Association, that a new law was added to the books in January that required us to get a permit to do the work. He told us nothing about this, and when I called to let him know, he said he didn't have time to get the permit and that I'd have to handle it. (This was something that could have easily been done over the phone.) But he assured us he'd be ready to start the first week of April, and we were desperate to get the work done, so I ignored the bad taste that left in my mouth. Then, the start of April came and went and we didn't hear from him, so after I left three messages over the course of 10 days or so, he eventually called and simply said, "I received a message to call you?" He sounded irritated and as if he had no idea what we wanted. During that call, he changed the start date to mid-April. After several hard rains, our yard was eroding quickly. I called again to ask when he'd be out to start the work, and he assured me by the end of April. By the start of May, we were in trouble with big chunks of earth falling down in the mud. I left a message saying if we didn't hear back from him, we'd need to ask someone else to do the work. He never returned the call. Lucky for us, we ended up finding someone else to do it who charged us $1000 less! We will never recommend this company to our neighbors and will instead warn them to avoid it.

He is very prompt and very good. We haven't done the work yet. He's been very good at returning our calls. He quoted me for $16500. He left a site having given us a quote before he left which no one else has done. He had a quote ready for us before he left. It was good. He was very thorough. The quote was a little high. He was right on time.
Description of Work: Greenstone Gardens came out on two different occasions to give us a quote. We had a retaining stone wall that collapsed. It was to rebuild the retaining wall and the back steps leading up to both my house and the neighbor's house. He looked at the work and measured everything.

We contacted Greenstone to do a weekly cutting of our lawn. They came out and did the estimate in a timely manner and gave us a great price ($25/cut). We were told that the cuts were done Wednesday/Thursday of the week, however the first week of service it rained on those days so they had to come out on Sunday (which was completely acceptable). The Thursday following that first cut they called to ask if we were a weekly customer or bi-weekly. We informed them we were weekly but that they could skip the current week and come back the following since we had just been cut on Sunday and there was not much growth. The following Wednesday/Thursday no one came out and I called on Friday to see if they would be out on the weekend and I was told yes. The weekend passed and they were still a 'no show'. By Monday I figured I could just wait until the following Wednesday for them to come. Wednesday and Thursday pass and they still do not show. I called Friday and they said they'd come out on the weekend to cut, but still come Sunday they were a 'no show'. At this point 3 weeks had passed since the last cut. I called Monday and the young lady who answered was quite surprised that no one still had not come to our house to cut and she was calling the crew to get right over. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday passed with me calling each day and no one shows. Finally Wednesday evening comes and I leave a message that if no one comes Thursday that I would be canceling the service. Thursday morning a guy I suspect is the owner calls and says that he was really sorry but there was a mix up with his teams and they thought we were a bi-weekly cut (which still doesn't make sense because we haven't been cut for 3 1/2 weeks). He said he'd have a team out by the end of the day. By 3pm that day they hadn't showed and there was a threat of rain. I just went ahead and got someone else to cut the lawn and canceled the service. Throughout this process the people I talked to were really nice and apologetic, they just never followed through and completed the work.

I had a deck installed in early October, 2013 which resulted in the steps coming down to a new location on the lawn. Likewise, it exacerbated long-standing drainage problems because water was pooling on the concrete. The owner (Mark Sr) answered all phone calls and came out promptly to give an estimate for the side walkway/pavers/river rock. The estimate was much lower than another estimate I received, so I gladly agreed to have Greenstone Gardens do the work. I had a bit of trouble scheduling with them in the Fall, and then everything got delayed because of the difficult winter, but when I recontacted them in April they came right out and looked at the job again, and also gave me an estimate for the front walkway. The work was done over two days and looks absolutely fantastic. I was not around either day to see the crew in action, but they clearly worked hard and meticulously, and cleaned up after themselves. They checked in with me a few times by phone to verify some requests. Overall, I am so very pleased with how the work came out, and I no longer have water pooling/drainage issues, which is a great bonus. I would gladly use them again if needed.
