The team was very nice, courteous, and professional. They were open to our ideas and helped with deciding factors. Very hard workers- took their time with things and did them right. We went from a deck to patio so there were a few things that had to be moved- dryer vent, siding to be redone. They were understanding when we had to delay work to have those things done, and came back to finish the job.

If your project only involves a patio I would recommend them. We had our 18x20 deck removed and a patio with 5 steps installed. The patio portion was great no complaints. However the construction and quality of the steps was extremely disappointing. When we were told the project was complete we reached out to the owner and he returned examined the steps and agreed to redo them using a more experienced person. The project stretched for 6 weeks, we kept finding minor problems with the steps that needed attention. In the end I am still not 100% happy with the steps but was told this was the best they can do when using pavers. Had they pointed this out before the project started we would have reconsidered the materials for the steps it was only until several attempts at fixing did the owners son mention the pavers were hard to work with. I would proceed with caution if your project includes steps.

All of the blocks in the retaining wall were removed and reused. The base of the wall was rebuilt. A drain with two weep holes were added to the wall. The retaining wall was repaired with minimal disruption to the plants that were at the top of the wall, which was an added bonus. All of the blocks were cleaned. The wall looks excellent. Due to sound movement, a number of blocks in our patio had shifted. The blocks were lifted, replaced, cleaned, and the gaps between the blocks filled. The patio looks brand new.
Description of Work: Repaired an EP Henry block retaining wall that was beginning to fall down. Replace and clean an EP Henry block patio.
Very professional from start to finish. Father handled pricing and layout; son managed project and workers. Both were professional and extremely knowledgeable in terms of solving minor issues as they developed during project. Will certainly use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Major demolition work of old pavements and multiple steps to various entry ways into house. Reconfigured downspouts away from house and into yard utilizing pop-up drainage systems. Landscaping of old parking area. Installed new flagstone walkway, with borders and various new field stone steps with treads. Graded landscape and installed grass sod.

Mark (senior) came out within a few days after I called for an estimate. He looked at the old retaining wall that was between my and my neighbor's town home units and said part of the cause of the leaning retaining wall was because rainwater coming out of the downspout was causing some erosion. He recommended using underground drain pipe that would end with pop-valves: one line for my downspout water and another line for my neighbor's downspout. It would involve removing a yew bush and replacing with another yew (guaranteed until the spring) and also grading and planting seed. Our homeowner's association (HOA) requested a drawing of the project and the contractor was able to get that done, though delayed a little because of illness. (These things happen). A few weeks after approving the project the workers came at the day promised at 8am sharp to start as I was leaving for work. When I came home they had already finished and left. I noticed that my neighbors drain line and popup had been placed right next to my own line and popup. Concerned that I would have both my and my neighbor's rain water draining on my property I left a message on Mark's cell phone about the problem and also sent an email. The next morning (Saturday) the workers showed up again and in relatively short order moved my neighbor's popup to his property. The work was of excellent quality and attention to detail with regard to the wall, grading, and raking. They put down seed and left me some seed to try to use in the spring since it is too late in the season for grass to grow. I am not sure why my neighbor's drain line and pop up was put on my side initially. Maybe the workers did not see the drawing that had been done, which showed the location of the popups. Or maybe tree roots were in the way. However, they quickly remedied the situation, which made up for it.
Description of Work: Removed an old 8' long and 2' high wood tie retaining wall and put in a stone (E.P. Henry) retaining wall 12' long and 2' high. Replaced two above ground downspouts with buried drain pipes with pop-up valves.

From start to finish Mark, Mark Jr. and the entire Greenstone team were fantastic. The initial designs were very thoughtful and clearly reflected our ideas and input. Through out the execution of the project, Mark Jr. was very hands-on and frequently kept us up-to-date on progress and considerations as his team completed the job. The quality and detail of the project exceeded our expectation and we will hire Greenstone for our next project....big or small.

Greenstone Gardens did what they said they would do when they said they would do it for a very competitive price. We are pleased with the result. These are hardest working people I've ever met.
Description of Work: Greenstone Gardens provided grading, retaining walls and garden borders.
I called for an estimate on a Friday and was able to get a consultation the next Monday with Mark. He wrote up the estimate on the spot and charged exactly that amount when the work was done. The crew of three were great - showed up everyday on time, worked hard and were courteous and friendly. They had to take aparat our fence gate in order to bring in heavy equipement and after they saw that we had two dogs, they made sure they set up a barrier with various equipment when they finished work everyday. I really appreciate their thoughtfulness. Mark Jr. was on site everyday to check on the progress, and paid attention to details. I appreciate his explanation on what was going on and his willingness to discuss options as we fine tuned the workplan to suit the circumstance. Being nimble and adjusting strategies as the situation demands is something I value highly. Due to the scope of the work, a lot of materials needed to be brought on site everyday. These were well coordinated, and everything was like clockwork, which I think speaks well to the organization and project management skills of Mark, Jr. I now have a properly graded foundation, a beautiful walkway which also accommodates a drain underneath, channeling the water away from the driveway which is slightly higher because of the asphalt. There are now 3 surface drains, an overflow pipe and 2 pop-up drains for water coming off the gutter downspouts in addition to the in-ground drainage pipes. Lastly the disturbed areas were covered with sod for a finished look and to stave off soil erosion. Greenstone Gardens did a great project for me and I highly recommend their work!
Description of Work: Graded the backyard and the sideyard around foundation for water drainage. Put in drain fields and a complete drainage system that spans the width of the backyard. Dug up old walkway from side of house to back door and replaced with new EP Henry walkway complete with curbstone and pavers. Put sod on all disturbed ground.

Excellent service and work by this company... they dug out the proper depth, added appropriate support rock and sand and built an awesome entryway... they had to build over the existing steps and integrate into the way too small landing to make it work... came out excellent!! Our neighbor liked it so much she had them come and upgrade their patio... they also remove builder timber box barely holding up the AC unit and replaced with a retaining brick wall in the back and in front there where wooden steps and retaining walls that were also replaced. Overall an awesome job... from the design to the build... thanks Mark!
Description of Work: Removed slate walkway, timber bulkheads and steps and replaced it with about 30 - 40' of EP Henry block... they built steps and a grand entryway to replace the timber retaining walls... they then added plants and mulch and it looked much better than expected... in the back took out a concrete pad and installed about 80 sq ft of EP Henry block as a back patio...
What started off really good ended up as a very frustrating experience. The patio, fire pit and lights came out decent although the stone they recommended still does not blend in with the existing patio (stone around the flower boxes). The big issue was the drainage work which took over a year and numerous emails/texts/phone calls to get them to fix/remediate. Also have plants that continue to die even after watering. In the end they were not that enjoyable to deal with and I am sure they got sick of me wanting to get this stuff fixed. I always believe you learn about contractors when things go wrong and their approach to fix issues and this one went south and their approach and timing to fix was disappointing (lots of ignored texts, postponed appts etc)...given they have other good reviews maybe my project was just cursed! I still gave them a C as the actual fire pit, patio and lighting came out as quoted. Would find someone else to handle drainage if you have a choice.

Hi Member, I apologize for the inconvenience our secretary schedule the estimate for the following Saturday instead of over the past weekend. Unfortunately we are not in the office on Saturdays and received your message this morning. Our secretary did call I believe your girlfriend this morning and apologized for the mistake, this type of mistake usually does not occur we do not miss schedule appointments. Please let us know if you would like to reschedule you'r estimate. Again I do apologize for the inconvenience and miscommunication. Thanks, Mark

I couldn't be happier with the results or the work. As the project began, I talked to them about a little expansion to the original scope. They worked with me to figure out the best way to lay out the additions, and provided a very fair price for the expansion. The communications were great, and they were there to answer any questions I had. I look forward to having friends over to see the work, so I can recommend them.

I appreciated Mark's prompt response to our request for a quote, and I also appreciated his explaining the process for installing a new patio. In addition to the patio, I had asked Mark about the problem we were having with water ponding on the side of our house because of a hillside. He explained how they would install a drainage ditch lined with cloth, crushed stone, and catchment areas that would move the water toward the back of the property. We also discussed the repairs to the front walkway which had been installed by the previous owner. We are extremely pleased with the final results of the new patio, the drainage ditch, and the repairs to our front walkway. Greenstone Gardens have a hard working crew that finished our job in a little over 4 days.
Description of Work: Install new 12' by 20' patio in rear of property with E.P. Henry pavers; install drainage ditch with 3 catchment areas to move water away from house to the back of property (45'); and repair front walkway pavers installed by a different company.

Last winter destroyed the flagstone walkway from the sidewalk to our front door--the joints were crumbling and the brick border was also falling apart. Our front yard needed to be weeded and mulched, and our driveway and backyard weeded, since they got out of hand while we were away for the summer. We decided to find someone who could do both jobs, and solicited four separate estimates. Mark came to the house and talked me through some different options, educating me about different ways to approach the walkway job. We opted for a lower cost option, and he provided me with an estimate on the spot. Mark's estimate was the least expensive I received, and while I don't always choose the cheapest bid, in this case I felt confident doing so because of my impressions of Mark as knowledgable and professional, as well as having excellent reviews online. His crew, managed by his nephew Joe, was able to get started later in the afternoon on the day we agreed to move forward. Once they started pulling out the flagstones, it quickly became apparent that we would need to replace an entire wall of the walkway, which was not part of the original estimate. I talked to Mark on the phone and we agreed on a price for the additional work. From there things moved quickly, and the job was mostly completed in a couple of days. There was some follow up required because it rained quite a bit immediately after the joints were set, but Joe kept in contact with me and came by several times to make sure the joints were all solid. He did not accept payment until I was satisfied that the job was complete. I was very impressed by his professionalism and by the quality of work done by his crew. The walkway looks great, and we were also very happy with the the landscaping work. I would definitely hire Greenstone Gardens again, and highly recommend them.

Great - knew what was needed for the job and what it would entail, accommodated our needs, pointed us to a good place to look for pavers (the suppliers also spoke well of these guys), told us when and how they intended to do the job and how long it would take and followed through. There were a few minor things I asked them to adjust placement of as the job was been done to suit my own tastes and they were very responsive. There were a couple of hitches with a large underground rock in the way of a drain extension, and some old dead tree roots under a path, and they just dealt with it. I appreciated in someone else's review that they mentioned the grass does get a little messed up when you do this type of work and it will need to grow back in - that's fine and the guys put down grass seed/straw to start it and the yard looks neat - this is just something to be expected with any work of this sort, but it's nice to know. All good people and a fantastic job that we are already enjoying. Would happily use them again and recommend them.
Description of Work: Removed our old broken paths and rotting deck, replaced with patios pavers, extended drains under patio, installed some boulders
