He never called me like he said he would….
Description of Work: I called Mark and set up an appt to do a paver patio with walls, steps and pillars. He cancelled our appt and said he would call me Monday. He never called. So I called him and he said he was busy but would call me Wed. i never heard from him again….I would be very careful in hiring this guy. I would be afraid he wouldn't finish the job…..I've had my own business for 20 years, so I know what it's like…..but I make sure I am professional and call people back! I guess my job was too small for him, 18,000 but at least he could have told me that. If you decide to go with him check the BBB for complaints.

Mark (the father) prepared the estimate in the summer. I explained in detail what I wanted: replacing front path of old flagstones separated by annoying mulch with either pavers or with cut pieces of flagstone arranged to fit together. Raise the level so the step up to the front porch was not so high, and include a step along the path to compensate for the slope down to the driveway. Edge the neighboring beds in curbstone. Also, we had a brand new deck with no path to it. So I wanted a path to come alongside the house next to the driveway, following the curve of the garden beds, and be strong enough so that cars could park a little wider-spaced from each other on the driveway which would put at least one wheel onto the path, then continue the path back to the deck steps, around the deck, and then widen out into a small patio-like area. I also wanted the side beds next to the path edged in curbstone. We had a problem with water pooling along the side of the deck after rain and garden-watering. I told them to either ensure that the slope would carry the water run-off to the driveway or to install a passive drain. The estimate was for 3 options: two different price levels of pavers and also for re-using the front flagstones by cleaning them, cutting them into pieces, and supplementing them with new pieces to make a kind of "mosaic". After many visits to a building supply center to look at pavers installed on the ground and borrowing some samples, walking through the neighborhood to look at other people's paving, and visiting 2 of Greenstone's previous customers' jobs, I decided on re-using the front flagstones as much as possible, and a different paver than originally quoted but at the same price. Mark Jr. supervised the work. He came out closer to the job date to go through all the details. We made final decisions on materials. We set a date in October. We arranged for the utility companies to mark underground lines. Stone got delivered into my driveway. On the day of the work, no one showed up or called. This happened twice. I didn't mind because I was not in any particular hurry and I figured they were just finishing up previous work, which was the case. My only concern was beating the cold weather. However, if this kind of lack of communication bothers you, you could always call or email them I guess. One day, they showed up while I was at work. When I got home, I could not believe how much they accomplished in one day. Another day, they came when I was at home. The crew was amazing to watch. They worked hard, had a great aesthetic eye for shaping the path and cutting the flagstones, and cleaned up very well each day. The job took a few days longer than they had estimated. I had a neighbor who could come over to answer their questions and supervise as necessary. There was one problem along the way with the way the sloping back yard intersected the path at the rear of the deck. We had not discussed this. They could have raised the height of the path to the level of the intersecting grass or made a step down from the grass onto the path. They chose the former, which effectively eliminated most of the bottom step on the stairs down from the deck to the lawn. This took some getting used to, but it seems okay and solved the problem. The higher path also made it easier for them to get the water run-off down to the driveway, which so far seems to have solved that issue. At one point, they were unsure how big to make the patio area so they waited until they could ask me. I was glad they asked me first. When they had finished, they cleaned up very thoroughly and even re-seeded the grass, though it was too late in the fall for it to grow. The only thing I wasn't excited about was an area they had backfilled with polymeric sand between the new path and the driveway. I felt it was too large an area to cure correctly. The very next day, they came back and replaced that area of polymeric sand with asphalt patch. Great customer service! I cannot begin to tell you how fabulous it looks! Of course, winter arrived shortly thereafter and the whole thing has been buried under snow for weeks. But it was the finishing touch that added so much to the look of our house and yard. They did a super job and when I saw how much work was involved, I felt the price was reasonable. Note that I had gotten about 8 estimates and Greenstone's price was about midway in the pack. What I liked was that they took responsibility for the technical details of how to accomplish my ideas. I had some companies come out and they were asking ME how to make the step or where was the best place to route the path for water run-off. How would I know that? I don't have that kind of expertise. Mark Sr. and Jr. worked out the logistics and gave good advice about materials, colors, etc. One minor thing that could have been better: They could have given me a heads-up in advance about the mess that would result from the path's construction. There was so much dust from the stone and from cutting the flagstones and pavers, I was not prepared for it. If I had known, I would have removed everything from my deck or covered it. Even with their good clean-up, we had a huge job washing everything that was near to the house, including the plants. Be forewarned: paving makes a mess. I have pretty high standards for workmanship, and I think Greenstone did an excellent job for a fair price and I would use them again!
Description of Work: Installed front pathway, edged beds with curbstone. Installed side pathway alongside driveway, back around new deck to rear of house, including edging beds with curbstone.

I had to replace an old rotted timber retainer wall that divided my driveway from a 4 foot elevated garden area. I contacted Mark from Greenstone Gardens. He recommended a wall using EP Henry blocks. With his ideas and recommendations, I went forward. His Son Mark Jr. manages the work crew. Everything was perfect with his direction and the awesome crew. I highly recommend them, and I will be contracting them for future projects.

The rear yard was beyond unattractive. It was unsafe for humans and the dog because there was broken glass, nails, screws and gas pipe debris, among other things, left there by an unrelated company hired to do other work. Joey and his crews worked days on end, including Saturday in the rain, to deliver a safe and beautiful space, fit for humans and dogs alike. This was no easy task, believe me. Joey, Kiki, Freddie and two others (names escape me) excavated and removed the dirt by hand and transported it to an awaiting truck via many round trips using a wheel barrel navigated through the neighbor's property because that was the only way to get it out. The herringbone pattern brick patio they intstalled looks like a work of art, complementing the house as well as the plants they intalled. It was 3 long years since the yard was usable. But with the expertise of Greenstone Gardens, we now have a space, even in the winter, to enjoy the peacefullness and beauty only Mother Nature provides.
Description of Work: - removed debris in rear yard left behind by an unrelated company - installed 18" high raised bed constructed of PA fieldstone w/a mortar joint - excavated 9 1/2" and installed brick for rear yard patio - provided and installed (1) 3-gal Nico Blue Hydrangea - provided and installed (2) 3-gal Nandina Domestica Gulfstream - provided and installed (3) 1-gal Hucchera Dolce - provided and installed (4) 3-gal climbing roses - raised canopy of tree - all over 4 days, including Saturday

The work was completed per schedule on time and at stated cost. Greenstone Gardens was the least expensive estimate and the outcome was great. The workers were very pleasant. We needed to make some minor adjustments to the project but Greenstone Gardens was very amenable to our requests. We have had several compliments on the work performed. We are extremely satisfied with the completed project and I highly recommend Greenstone Gardens

We had a wonderful experience with Greenstone Gardens and will definitely use them again and I have been recommending them to everyone. Mark was great to work with and was very helpful in creating exactly what we wanted. His team completed the project in 2 and 1/2 days which is unbelievable for what was done. They did such a great job. It turned out even better than we had envisioned. The shrubs and landscaping that Mark recommended are absolutely perfect. For everything that was done and how great everything looks, you can't beat the price either!

Mark was punctual for the estimate and gave a quote right away. His guys came out under his supervision and did the work in a complete and professional manner. The process was great. The owner called right away and told us he had a landscape architect on staff that could do just what we needed. He came out, took measurements and came back with a thorough plan that took into account our personal style of simplicity and incorporated everything we asked for. Everyone we talked with was very professional and knowledgable. We have not yet hired them for any of the landscaping but will likely call them back when we are ready to start.

The entire job required about a week and a half along with 5+ guys every day and a bobcat. The work crew was great, they were pretty clean with their trash, they worked non-stop and did an excellent job. Mark gave us a great deal and didn?t nickel and dime us on some of the small changes we made once we started to see things come together. The work looks great and I?m confident that it was done correctly. Plus, all of our drainage issues have been resolved as well. Overall, definitely happy and my wife has already recommended him to her brother as well. One word of caution though as it was never something we considered, any serious job will destroy your grass. Half of our back yard was mud when they finished the job and we are hosting a party in a few days. Not their fault at all, I just never considered it. However, after they finished they did come through and put down some fill in certain areas and then put down seed and hay on top of that. It?s been about a week now since the job was completed and we?ve already got grass coming in pretty strong, but I don?t think we?ll be ready to have people walking all over it in time. But like I said, that was my own lack of common sense, not something they did wrong. Also ? Greenstone is a EP Henry certified installer. So you get a lifetime product warrantee and EP Henry does offer financing as well if you need it. Can't really beat it.
Description of Work: My wife and I just recently bought our home which was built in the 50's. The house is actually built into a hill so there are a lot of retaining walls and unfortunately they were all original with the house and needed some serious repair. We had Mark with Greenstone come out and quote us for removing and replacing several retaining walls and decided to also have them put in a new 15’x15’ porch, multiple walkways and even a pad for a shed. The shed was going on a hill so they needed to create a new retaining wall and fill it with stone to level it out and give us a pad big enough for a 10x10 shed. We also had them put in built in lights into the patio and walk ways along with new lamp posts out front and a whole new front walkway from the sidewalk to the front door since that needed some work as well. With the current retaining walls and walkways, we also had some draining issues because rainwater would tend to puddle up in areas because it wasn’t graded properly so we wanted that fixed as well.

Our experience with them was fine; it was very good. Honestly, we chose them because there were lots of positive reviews. They were responsive. They were on time. They did a good job. They listened to what we had to say. They modified the plan based on what our requests were. The price was quite a shock because I had not expected that it would cost that much, but we had other estimates, and they were all in that ball park.

I hired Greenstone Gardens to complete work as a surprise for my husband while we were on vacation. They were supposed to come sometime between June 1st and June 11th. We were going to be home on June 12th. What a surprise when we returned and the work was not even started. The work crew showed up at 7:00 a.m. on June 12th after I had called and left a message to cancel the work. I sent the work crew away and waited for a call from the manager. I was called back at about 8:30 with apologies and was told it was a total misunderstanding. Most people do not want work done while they are on vacation and they could start right away if I wanted them to come back. Since I really wanted my husband not to have to do the work, I had them come back, sure they would make things as right as possible even though the surprise was ruined. What a mistake that was! I came home from work to find the patio completed but it looked much smaller than before. When measured, the 12' x 14' patio was now 11'5" x 13'2". Six pieces of flagstone was placed next to a tree. I determined that instead of replacing the broken piece, they put the patio back without it. The edging around the pool was not touched and the rocks were not mixed in with the existing rocks like I was told but just thrown on top. It doesn't look very nice. I called about the patio and they came back an added flagstone around the edge to make it the original size but it really doesn't blend in well. It looks like flagstone was added. Now for the front foundation. At first it looked good. I wanted something that was low maintenance. The new plants looked nice and there were no weeds. Three days later, the weeds started growing through the mulch. I moved some of the mulch to find the garden was not weeded (the weeds were not dug up) the tops were pulled off and then mulch was put down. There was not a weed barrier put down to keep the weeds from aggrivagation back. My husband and I now have to rake the mulch out, dig out the weeds, put a barrier down and replace the mulch. I originally thought the price was reasonable but with all the aggravation and the fact that we have to re do the work, I feel like I got ripped off.
Description of Work: Relay 12 X 14 foot flagstone patio, replace one 18' x 24" broken flagstone piece. Remove hostas at rear foundation and install 3 gumbo azaleas. Reset existing pool bed edging, weed and river rock. Remove all flowers and weed in front left foundation and install 3 gumbo azaleas and 2 rhododendrons.

Response from Greenstone Gardens
To whom this may concern, Greenstone Gardens always tries to please our customers 100% of the time. In the case of this residents there was a communication error between the sales person and customer. The work order stated that the customer was on vacation from 6/1 to 6/11. The understanding Greenstone Gardens had, was to start on 6/12. Our company policy is to NOT do work on properties while customers are on vacation. Greenstone Gardens was hired to relay the existing Flagstone patio. When relaying the flagstone properly with smaller gaps the area decreased slightly. Greenstone Gardens received a phone call from the client saying the new patio was smaller. We met with her explaining to her why it was like that. Also to make her happy we came back to install Flagstone around the border at NO cost. She told us she was very happy. In my opinion the patio looks beautiful. Her beds where sprayed with Roundup to kill the weeds. It usually takes about a week for the weeds to be killed off. If beds would have NOT been disturbed the weeds would have died. Greenstone’s goal is 100% customer satisfaction.

The overall end product is looking good. However there were some minor issues along the way. The trees weren't planted evenly the first time. 1 of the 3 types of perennials they planted was not what I requested. And when I called about some uneven grass growth and excess weeds, the salesperson said that he'd drop off extra grass seed and take care of the weeds. But neither thing happened. I ended up doing the weed spraying myself. On the good side, they did quickly address and fix the first two issues free of charge when I called them about it.

Look no further than Greenstone Gardens! After meeting with three other companies, who I thought were amazingly overpriced and out of touch, I came across Greenstone Gardens on Angie's List and thought I would give them a shot. Mark was immediately responsive and came out to our house shortly after I contacted him to prepare an estimate. He was prompt, professional and prepared right from the start. We needed a total outdoor overhaul on our newly purchased home and Mark and his team delivered. After receiving an incredibly reasonable estimate on a Saturday, we hired Greenstone Gardens and Mark and his team were on the job first thing Monday morning! The project was completed within two weeks (with only the rain setting us back a few days)! This even included adding a project (patio stairs) along the way--no problem! Mark was accessible and responsive throughout the entire project and his team was very courteous, hardworking, and tidy. We were thrilled with the finished project. Our new patio is beautiful and the landscaping looks great! I cannot recommend Greenstone Gardens enough!

Mark was very attentive to give us an estimate and answer all of our questions in advance. They were able to start the job quickly (within a week), and were prompt. The job took 4 days, as they had estimated and they were at our house the entire time (didn't go elsewhere to do other jobs and make us wait). We were very pleased with the experience.
Description of Work: Removed a retaining wall that was falling down and where tree roots were pushing through wall. Ground and removed tree roots. Installed new manufactured block wall.
