+ 0 moreTOTAL RIP OFF. After an hour of song and dance, they quoted me $7,100 for a retractable awning. I laughed out loud. Then they asked how much I'd be willing to pay. I said I didn't know. Then they asked, "$5,000"? I said, sure, maybe. They called two days later and said they were going to do something special for me... they'll do the awning for $5,000. And added, "let's talk about your roof, too." Friend had his siding done by them and same thing... got ripped off. #BUYER BEWARE.

The gentleman said he wouldn't come up to the porch because of the tar on his shoes. I commend him for that but I think the person on the phone who said he would have him do it should be a bit more knowledgable of that fact.

+ 0 moreS&S..Gavin from S&S promptly came out to give me an estimate and that was the final price. He was low key and thorough,unlike Power Windows of Chester. They were VERY high pressure and we were turned off by their approach. Basically it seemed like a marketing campaign with various people phoning,sometimes within an hour of each other. The right hand did not know what the left hand was doing,UNLESS it was all by design. The S&S installers were great,friendly and professional. The work was all done in one day and we are very pleased. I'd highly recommend.
Description of Work: Replaced 7 windows in my LR and DR. 2 of the windows were custumed made.

+ -1 moreThe installer arrived on time, preceded to do the job. He laid down a tarp on the floor and demo'd the old door. Installed the new door. He removed the tarp and vacuumed up his mess. He was very professional and left the area as he found it. Hauled out all the out material. Very pleased with them. I will consider using them again when we get new siding on our house. I owe S & S Remodeling Contractors an apology at the tardiness of this review, I thought I had done this a long time ago.

After I agreed to the price , the technichan took measurements and stated it would be about six to seven weeks for the order. Once the order arrived they came on the day requested , on time and did a great job with the window replacement. There was no left over mess and I am very happy with the windows.

I was disappointed to be given a "deal" that I could not use, however I DO understand that deals are sent out to a wide audience and cannot possibly be directed to such a particular audience. The quick response from the provider and the quick refund made me very satisfied!!!
Description of Work: provider emailed me promptly to let me know he did not provide service in my zip code. He apologized for the error and said he would make sure I was given a refund. I appreciated his quick response, his empathy for my position and his desire for me to get a very quick refund.

+ 5 moreGary's crews were prompt, tidy and meticulous. The work on the capping, soffits and fascia look brand new. They covered the porch ceiling and surrounds, boxed in the corner stone support posts to keep birds from doing more nesting and made sure all the doors swung perfectly snugly. I recommend them all the time and others on my street have hired them too. Gary worked very hard to create a color scheme that is enduring and complementary to the house and the neighborhood. I still get comments on how nice my front porch looks with the new front door and sidelights.
Description of Work: S&S Remodelers is a fabulous company with which to do business. Their prices are very fair and the crew did a fantastic job on everything they did. I had my roof replaced, including plywood, insulation, all the windows capped, soffit and fascia, installed custom front and back doors with coordinating colors to go with the cedar shake siding, and replaced all the cellar windows.

The time from order to installation was four weeks as expected. Snow and bad weather was forecast for the day of installation. The company called me well ahead of time to reschedule for the next day which was fine for me. The interior door trim was removed in good condition and reused.
Description of Work: The front entry door was replaced with a custom, insulated, steel replacement unit. The existing door jamb was reused and capped with aluminum.

+ 1 moreWe needed a new roof and didn't want a 'fly-by-night' company. S&S has been in the Brookhaven/Middletown/Media area since the 50's. While they are not the cheapest, they ARE very, very professional and reliable. They do fabulous work. Since the roof, we've had them do doors and windows and our experience has been A+ every time. Again, if you want the cheapest, I think you need to go elsewhere, but if you want professional and reliable, these are your guys. Run by a father and son (dad founded the business and his son has taken over in recent years), its a pleasure to have their crews working around the house. Another positive is that the same people who first worked on the house in 2001 were still with S&S in 2010. Consistency is so underrated!
Description of Work: Old roof torn off, new roof installed, doors replaced, windows replaced...and one was a custom, oddball window that actually required cutting out a portion of the wall.

+ 6 moreThe process working with Gary Subers was very easy. He was open to our questions and suggestions. He listened to our concerns and worked within our budget. He answered all questions in a way we could understand. All work was detailed in his proposal. His team was very courteous and professional in conducting their work. Upon completing all work, we went through all the tasks against the proposal. There is no sign of the leak and the new 3-season porch looks great. We now get far more use from it than before. People have commented how nice it looks. I would definitely work with Gary Subers again for other contractor jobs. We recently had opportunity to do so again regarding replacing two posts in the front of our house. Like the previous work described, he recommended an excellent solution, fairly priced the work, and completed all tasks associated with the job. He was also honest in noting to us work that didn't need to be done that was proposed, reducing our project cost.
Description of Work: We had a small but persistant slow leak into a first floor room, and given what had been done to address it in the past, we were skeptical as to whether simply replacing a section of the roof would resolve the problem, which is why we called a contractor with more general expertise. We also had numerous holes in the back part of the roof that were caused by improper nailing down of shingles causing them to pop through. These holes had been plugged using silicone caulk prior to the arrival of S&S. So we knew the back part of our roof shingles had to be replaced. However, S&S noticed rotted fascia wood at a crucial juncture on top of the second floor, something the other, more expensive contractors missed. This diagnosis made sense to us. So we proceeded with the scope of work involving house roof replacement, other related items to complete these tasks. We received a detailed proposal before proceeding, outlining all specific tasks for the roofing and skylight, and soffit and repair items. They also took care of obtaining all necessary permits, company gaurantees on the installed shingles, and when the shingles ement of sections being 9'x23' and 10'x25', 2 skylight replacements, soffit replacement of two sections 22'x15', and various other repair items. They replaced any rotten wood and conducted other necessary repairs as needed, informing us along the way. We also asked Gary if he could recap the siding on our porch and replace the screens with windows. When that work started, we found that the underlying wood was rotted, necessitating an entirely new porch. Gary easily could have over-charged us given the situation we were in, but instead he was incredibly fair with his pricing. He provided us with another detailed proposal porch window installation to turn our screened area into a 3-season room - with 4 sets of double hung vinyl windows and screens, full-lite insulated white fiberglass door, and all necessary carpentry. The worksite was properly cleaned up and Gary took us through all the things he and his team did relative to the proposal before we made our payment.

+ 0 moreGot an estimate for repair work on my sunroom and gave a $ 200 deposit. The work was scheduled for the following week. I received a call the night before my scheduled appointment that they would have to reschedule which we did for the following week. No one called or came to do the work. The following Monday i called the office and requested the return of my deposit. At that time , the office manager told me it had to be approved and somone would call me back. When the gentlemen returned my call he said I was on the schedule and was not told they did not make it to my job. Found it disturbing they don't know where there workers are. I got my deposit back and had the work done by another company.

+ 1 moreOne of the owners, Gary, came out to give me the estimate for everything I requested, and the final charge was right on, no BS, no surprises, no overruns. It happened to be that the high quality entry doors he offered were the same locally manufactured ones I had seen before and liked. He listened to me and heard what I said, he didn't try to sell me things I already knew I didn't want (fancy brass door knocker, kickplate, etc.) . I liked how he conducted himself, very professionally, how represented his company, that the company was family run and in business for a long time, had a good local reputation, and so I asked about other services (insulation, attic fan, fascia to match the other 3 pieces on the house, resealing of the garage roof). I liked his explanations about the work, the materials and the amount of time required for the job. It was one-stop shopping, and the work was done in two consecutive days*, the workers were professional, courteous, and stayed until the job was done. Gary came by from time to time to make sure all was going well, and to iron out any problems. One problem was a lock that was bad out of the box; Gary got on the phone with the manufacturer and they figured out it was defective, and then he was able to get a replacement right away so there was only minimal delay in the installation. My S & S experience was excellent; my time, patience, and investment were valued, and I am happy to recommend highly. (*the work on the garage roof was a few days early, done on a day when I did not have to be present; I asked that this happen since a bad storm was approaching, and they were able to accomodate my request)
Description of Work: Installed new entry doors and locks, installed missing fascia on side of house near roof, installed cellulose attic insulation, installed powered attic ventilator, and resealed and silvercoated the flat rubber roof over the garage.

Although "our design plans" changed a few times Gary listened to our ideas and provided "detailed" answers to all our questions and concerns. After our first meeting with Gary we were confident that this was the company we were going to hire for our new addition.We were so confident with the quality of workmanship that Gary would provide that we decided to have 3 original windows replaced at the same time. The Team of workers from S&S Remodeling were on the site every day and worked throughout the day, completing the day by sweeping up any trash and neatly stacking out of the way any wood and tools.The work was completed exactly within the time line that Gary had told us and all the work that was outlined in the contract was completed as expected. S&S Remodeling Contractors, Inc. deserves an A-plus rating. I would definitely recommend S&S Remodeling Contractors to others...and already have.
Description of Work: We had our existing cement patio enclosed for a 3 season room. The scope of the work by S&S Remodeling included framing the entire room, installing 2 new doors, 12 new windows, insulating the walls and roof, painting as well as electric outlets and outside lights.

+ -1 moreA very nice gentleman came to our house as scheduled to give me an estimate for a new pent and bay window roof. We did not have any leaks or problems, we were just doing a new roof for purposes of selling the house. We had been thinking about also capping the bay window but figured it would be too much. When I mentioned we were trying to increase curb appeal, the owner suggested the capping, indicating that it would be about $200, much less than I expected. Of 8 estimates, this company was priced low-mid range, offered the best services and came across very professional. We chose to use this company and was very happy that we did so. They came when they said they would, worked very quickly and finished in one day. The roof looked great and the capping made the window look like new! My nit-picky husband wasn't happy with one small thing, the owner came back to assess the situation, offered a repair and to install new shutters free of charge for our troubles (another thing we were thinking of doing but figured it would be too much hassle and again too expensive!). They came back, fixed the small problem and installed the shutters that we provided. The house looks nice, and in my opinion, now the best house in the row! Thank you for going above and beyond S&S! We are moving to a new home in a week. The house needs a new roof within the next year or so and S&S will be the first ones we call.

Description of Work: The most recent job S&S did at my house included replacing one double hung window, four basement windows with insulated sliders and replace part of a leaking roof. All work was done with skill and professionalism by caring and pleasant employees. S&S has also replaced over that past six years a sliding window door to my deck, quite a few double hung windows and a storm door. Their doors and windows are superior to most you will see elsewhere and everything is installed properly. there is never a mess left for me to clean up. Their prices are a little higher than competitors but their quality, craftsmanship and attention to homeowner needs more than offsets the difference. The salesman has also told me not to replace some windows because he saw no problem with them. He cares more about me than making a sale, a sign of good business pratices. A few years ago I had four windows replaced by another company only to accommodate a business associate. I saved some money but it was not worth the savings. The windows were of poorer quality and the installers made a huge mess that took months to clean up the bits and pieces from my lawn. The installation was not done properly. That company never responded to my calls. If you have a problem with S&S products and products they respond immediately and resolve the issue.
