The repair lasted a couple of weeks before the system broke again. This time I used a different serviceperson recommended by a friend. The new serviceperson told me that the problem was not the refrigerant, but rather the blower motor was bad. The blower shut off causing the system to freeze. He tested the system and confirmed that there was no refrigerant leak as I was told by the prior serviceperson. OK I thought, no harm, no foul - anyone can misdiagnose a problem, and perhaps the refrigerant was indeed low when the first guy "refilled it"? I then told him about the $85 / lb. charge for the R-22 refrigerant and the "break-even quote." I could tell by the look on his face that he was stunned. He informed me that R-22 refrigerant costs about $13 / lb. and that while he's heard of people being charged $35 / lb, on the high side, he's never heard of anyone being charged $85 / lb. To confirm his story, I looked up the pricing on the internet. Guess what? - R-22 refrigerant direct for the manufacturer (and the same brand in the same canister used by Delfera) is $14 / lb INCLUDING shipping if you buy one to five canisters, cheaper if you buy more. Clearly, I was lied to about the pricing on the refrigerant, which frankly was just stupid. I wouldn't have known the difference if the guy just said "this is our price." I don't know if this is the policy of the company or just a dishonest serviceperson. I had intended to ask them to provide a quote for the replacement of two complete A/C and heating systems, but now I can't trust them. I suggest that you think twice about using a company that justifies a 600% mark-up on refrigerant with a lie.
Description of Work: Serviced one of my central air conditioning units. Replaced a component, which went fine. Told me that I needed additional refrigerant. The problem arose in the price of the refrigerant (R-22). The serviceperson told me that they "had to charge me $85 / lb. for the refrigerant because they themselves paid $80, and that their price only allowed them to break even." I had no reason to doubt them, so I agreed to the charge. He filled my 6 lb unit, which according to him was "bone dry" with 2 lbs of refrigerant. (Things seemed a bit fishy at this point, but I thought "well I'm at least glad it wasn't $85 x 6.")

We had a new heater system installed several years ago. Every year we had the same problem once or twice at the beginning of the heating season where a certain part on the heater went bad. We had it serviced under warranty a few times, until our warranty expired. The next time we had a heater problem we called Delfera & Son. Tom DelFera came out to the house and quickly repaired the problem and caliberated the system and fixed a venting problem that had been overlooked by the previous company. When our old oil tank literally fell down, we again called Tom and he told us he had a used oil tank that he had just taken out of a home when they were changing over their system to gas heat. It was in perfect condition and he gave it to us for next to nothing...saving us a ton of money! It looked new, so he could have told us it was and charged a lot for it, and we wouldn't have known any different! That's when we knew this was the company we were going to call from now on. His guys came out and removed the old tank, installed the new one, and leveled it up perfectly and cleaned up the area. We got a burner service contract from him...Regularly only $199, but when we sign up early every year, we get a discount and it's only $179...can't beat that for piece of mind when the weather is freezing outside!! They do work in PA as well as parts of DE, which is where we live. They respond to messages and calls for service very quickly
