After the first few projects were completed, with numerous time delays, errors in drawings and execution, as well as defects in very expensive materials, due to not handling properly, we did NOT want Regis to personally perform the work on our outdoor kitchen. We wanted him to design it so it carried on the same look as the rest of our property, but we wanted professionals that we use with our business to complete the work. He made such a fuss and promised it'd be an efficient project, he'd work on it himself to ensure no errors, and he would focus all his attention only our job. The kitchen design mirrored lighting throughout our property and most importantly a water feature that was the selling feature of why we chose that design. So we unfortunately signed the contract and agreed he'd do the work. He started the supposed three week long project weeks after the date he told us when we signed our contract. He worked approximately two days (Sept 16 and 17th, 2014) and then for the remainder of September only worked 3 days... October continued the same work ethic. He'd come late into the morning, and leave by 2-3pm at the latest. Obviously working other jobs. By October 29th... he was only just setting the grill into the kitchen. Despite many conversations in person, via phone and documented in emails, Regis put no emphasis on finishing our job. Also concerning, was there was never any pictures, or information about the actual water feature. As this was the most important part of the project to me, I asked Regis specifically every SINGLE Monday (if he came to work) about the water feature. I asked what type of materials did he plan on using, could I see it, how long would it take to come in. I was always given very vague responses... wrapped up with 'don't worry, I'm taking care of it'. Well. Our entire backyard and brand new patio furniture, and kids toys were filthy with stone dust for half of September, all of October, and into November. We had no use of our yard without spending at least an hour sweeping, wiping off and hosing down our space. When November 8th came, Regis was agitated asking for another check, and since we still did not have a functioning kitchen, my husband told him he would not give him the next check until he responded VIA EMAIL, and gave an explanation and timeline for the STILL uncompleted or incorrect items. It was only at that point, that the "architect/design/contractor" admitted that he couldn't give us a proper water feature, and it was something that he just figured out within the last 2-3 weeks. I HAVE THIS NONSENSE IN WRITING. It literally broke my heart, as this project was something that should have been nothing but exciting, and it had turned into a several month long headache and anxiety attack. He took that check, came back 4 more days after that, working 12-5, 10-4, 10-1 and then 11-1. He never returned after that. At this point, April 2015... I'm left with an outdoor kitchen with very expensive firemagic doors and a refrigerator that scratch into the stone every time they are opened (he cut/designed/installed the stone too close). He installed a $45 Lowes bathroom replacement vanity into our outdoor PITTSBURGH PA kitchen... that after speaking to both Lowes and the actual sink manufacturer, is not rated for sub-temp winters. My brand new grill doesn't turn on. An electrician finally got out here this past Saturday, because we were thinking it just 'needed to be hooked up' as our architect told us... but in actuality the electrician said the plug is non functioning, and he will need to return to fix it. Regis also hooked up the plumbing incorrectly, and that was after a plumber instructed him on what to use. He got cheap and used regular caulking instead of plumbing appropriate things... in addition to other errors. He left out two lights on the top, which are very noticeable. No water feature. I have a reputable local company coming out this very afternoon to come and start the installation of a water feature. Oh... and the back of the grill, he put the access lever to the gas line behind a wall of stone, instead of lining up one of the ventilation holes with it... his solution to us when we asked was 'lay on the ground and use a make up mirror' to find and reach in for the connection. In addition to ALL of this... as if there even needs to be more... several of the trees and bushes we purchased from him, and he planted are dead. Several are dead, and several were planted incorrectly and are now growing sideways. The worst part of all of this... is we have a one year 'workmanship warranty' from Stoneridge. That was constantly pushed at us when we were debating or considering someone else doing the construction or planting. He kept promising that it'd be no big deal and of course he'd replace things within the year. We've asked him numerous times, even this morning, to please come and just fix the electrical so we can use our grill. Please come replace the trees. He refuses to honor his contract, and even went so far this morning as to tell my husband that 'this is harassment' when my husband called him to ask one last time about the electric. I was on the phone as well. There was no harassment happening. Just very frustrated customers who are out many many tens of thousands of dollars... and are completely unsatisfied and disgusted with Stoneridge and Regis Zapatka. He claims to be such a gentleman, such an honest man. I feel completely taken advantage of.
Description of Work: We hired Stoneridge, owned and operated by Regis Zapatka, to design our entire exterior of our residence. We paid him to complete drawings for everything ranging from full landscaping, a new patio, driveway, retaining walls, mailbox, front path and steps, and a complex outdoor kitchen. Regis ASSURED, promised, and insisted we allow him to do not only the design, but also the work. He claimed he was a complete perfectionist, as well as a total professional, and more importantly, a proper businessman.
