ADT Security Services

This is the worst company I have ever done business with! I was trying to help my mom cancel services because she sold her house. She forgot her password, which I’m sure many people do and they told me I needed to send a letter. I sent the letter per their instructions and I was told they needed more information, so I sent the additional items requested and was told I again needed to send a letter. I called and was transferred 4x and hung up on once. Finally I spoke to Kaneisha, who finally took care of me. I think it’s a shame that this is the service this company provides. My mom will be getting a new house with a new alarm system and it will not be from ADT! I want to also note that she is elderly and would never have been able to handle this on her own.

It was fine. Its just what I expected from a service company. Its 45 dollars a month. Its a standard service for our home security. I'll continue to use them depending on their pricing.

They were very responsive and we were very surprised that the man travelled for an hour and a half for the service. I believe that they have more services. As a matter of fact, we were able to go online and find out if someone has entered the house from Texas. The equipment seems to be easy to use and it is state of the art. They have a backup system when power runs out. I can access, here from San Antonio, my security system from my mobile phone. It is just a pretty swift and state of the art operation.

When I initially called a tech came out to look at the home and see what the needs were. He gave us a quote for almost $5000.00 for the equipment plus almost $50 per month for monitoring. This is not a huge house. When we told him this was an excessive charge for equipment he said for us to think about it. A day later I got a call asking how the service went. The person seemed surprised that we opted to not have it installed and wanted to know why. When I told them that the equipment cost was excessive I then spoke to a "supervisor" who managed to have the same system for less than half the price. The installation this time went well but the installer had to return to the house a second time as the painting contractor had taken down the units. The installer seemed to do a good job but after one day one or two of the sensors started beeping. When I called ADT I was passed to three separate people and was on hold for 32 minutes. When I explained that it was unacceptable that the system had just been installed and was already something was not functioning properly the said they could have a technician come out in seven days. Waiting seven days for an appointment is clearly unacceptable. This is especially true when it is beeping day and night. Finally, they agreed to come out the next day but would only give me a four hour timeframe. So in addition to being on hold for more than half an hour I am going to have to waste half a day waiting for service that should not have been necessary. I would never recommend this company to anyone else. I have had home security systems in other cities with other companies and this is exceptional for its poor responsiveness and unacceptable customer service. As soom as the contract is up I will not renew.

6 months after installation, the system failed. The reason is that the radio signal needed to send home to ADT, failed. ADT claimed the 'signal was weak' and the service man blamed it on the the radio signal. It turned out the original installer placed the antenna bunched up in the wall behind the control unit. Stretching it out fixed the weak signal. The original installation was apparently inadequate to allow for variations in radio signal. I contend the ADT installer should have been aware of this and should have take the steps necessary to prevent a weak signal from causing a malfunction.

My problem is that ADT isn't business friendly. I am a landlord with multiple single family properties. I have placed ADT alarm systems in all of them and I know that I had to agree to a 3-year alarm monitoring contract when they were installed, but I recently had a tenant decide that they didn't want the expense of a phone line and alarm monitoring. I talked to ADT and since the contract was up we stopped monitoring the house, but they reassured me that we could reinstate service under the same terms that were governing the property at the time, i.e., $36/month. Now with a new tenant moving in ADT is insisting on a new 3-year contract. This is stupid, I've already insured that they have recouped their expenses by having monitoring for the first 3 to 4 years and I might get a new tenant next year also who doesn't want the system. Furthermore, when I pointed out to the rep on the phone that I have multiple systems with ADT and that if they couldn't work with me I would be forced to find another provider, thus they would lose multiple accounts. The rep didn't care. To top it off, when I asked to speak to a supervisor, the rep hung up on me! And I was being polite and reasonable. I would even have gone for a 1-year contract that matched the term of my leases.g

The service is great, and the name works wonders as a deterrent. But not worth the price just to put their sticker on my house.

I have had them for about 10 years. I wanted them to come in and change some things with my service. They said they would, but twice they never showed up with no phone calls.

After receiving information in the mail, I called ADT and asked questions about their system. Although the representative on the phone was courteous and informative, I was not given all the information. When the technician arrived, I was given some surprising information. First he was surprised how the house was set up, stating that most areas have underground utilities - I told him to look again, as we do have underground utilities. Then I was told that my hook-up is unusual, as most houses have underground lines going into the basement - I told him that my structure was 17 years old, and I couldn't believe that it was inferior to older homes. Then he said that if my phone line was cut, the system would be ineffective. At this point I told him that if the system was ineffective then it was of no use to me. His response was that most intruders would not cut the phone line, which again I found hard to believe. Lastly he told me for an extra charge I could have a cellular system. At this point I replied that I felt that it was bait and switch. His response was that the phone representative didn't know my set-up. Again I disagreed as I was told during the phone converstation that since I had a landline, the system would be connected to that. At no time was I told about it being ineffective if the line was cut. I refused to have the system installed, and the installation fee was subtracted from my credit card. It seems as if they are interested in getting into your home, then selling a differenct service. No thanks. If they were up front from the beginning, my reaction might have been different. Although again, I wouldn't have paid more that quoted to me over the phone. My advice - do your research.

They have been good. I liked that their set up process was very good and their engineers were very courteous as well performed the job quickly without leaving any mess. The thing which I do not like about them is that they have increased their billing over the past three years on a yearly basis.

I really don’t like them. When they showed up they did a lousy job. They installed a bunch of stuff and it cost $100 to put the system. Then they did a whole bunch of other stuff. They put in a bunch of motion sensors none of which worked. Then they came in and put in a whole bunch of different types of sensors and charged me money. They left holes in the wall. As soon as my contract is up they are history. On top of it they did a lousy job. I got a quote from some guy for $1000 worth of stuff with good reputation. They came in and offered tremendous deal. By the time I got 2 quotes the prices were fairly close and they did a lousy job. As soon as my contract is up I am going to call the other guy. They were fairly responsive. They came out and tried to fix things. I spoke to some woman on the phone to cancel the contract. She said I can’t cancel because I am locked into the contract. She made sure that I understood it. They put in stuff that doesn’t work and now they are telling me that I have to live with it. It cost me another $200 to $300. They were terrible.

We have had no problems with them whatsoever.

If there was an incident they set up the system so if there you could submit the information to the police. The cameras have been great. They are easy to adjust and the system is easy to adjust.

They came out initially to just do the walk through the house. They were amazing. They came out on a Saturday to do the installation. I don't think there could have been anything better. The representatives were great themselves. The sales guy came out and explained everything to me. He told me where the heat pad should be installed specifically. He did an amazing job to fit me in to the schedule immediately and got me an appointment two days later; but he was great. The guy who actually came out to install, he was awesome as well. He explained everything as he was going through it. He did the usual things that he was supposed to do; checking to make sure everything was working. He is really personal. It was a good experience. The price was expensive.

They always come out right away if there is a false alarm or if I need them. The first person who installed the system didn’t do it correctly so they had to send someone else out to fix it.

Their service is fine and they provide good security. They are very responsive and I will use them again in the future.

I have been with them for six years. One of the features I like on the multiple monitoring is if one goes down you can shift it to another.

Everything was very good. Whatever they told me I would get, I got. I would use them again in the future.

I'm satisfied with the service that I'm receiving. I would recommend them to others. They are doing something right or I just live in a nice neighborhood.

Really well service. I had a couple of incidents and the police came out right away.

If I could give them an F- I would!!! I took off of work with the promise I would have the FIRST appointment of the day - 8:00 a.m. At 9:30 a.m., I called and they couldn't find the technician. Finally, at 10:45 he showed. After an hour he repeatedly said "Um, I don't know." He called into the office. He called tech support. He finally said "I don't know - you have to have a senior tech come out and figure it out. But I can change the battery." This is after I lost a half day's pay. I was assured that someone would call me "right away" to schedule the senior tech appointment. FIFTEEN MINUTES after he left, the battery prompt came on again!!! This guy couldn't even change a battery correctly! I waited an hour, and no one called me. I called them - and the customer rep said she was "escalating" the call and I would hear from the manager "right away." By 8:00 THE NEXT NIGHT I still had not heard from ADT. I called yet again, and was told that a senior tech could not come out for another TWO AND A HALF WEEKS!!! Not only am I without monitoring to the central office (which I am paying a very high monthly bill for), I am in danger of having a blaring alarm go off for who knows how long once the battery fails. All because ADT cares nothing for their customers, refuses to pay someone to stay a little late or come in on their day off to take care of a problem of ADT's making (by sending a tech who knew nothing about fixing their own equipment), and doesn't understand the meaning of customer service. I am a TWENTY YEAR customer of ADT's, and have paid my bill faithfully. No more. All I can say is DO NOT, under any circumstances, purchase an ADT monitoring system. They are happy to take your money, but they will never take care of you once they have suckered you into a system they cannot fix when it breaks.
