The Shogan Brothers and helper Rob were very professional. They were very patient when uncovering unforeseen problems and handled everything very well. We were very satisfied with the completed project. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Installed 2 custom designed retaining walls - approx. 120 lf., and 8 large boulder steps in our rear yard. This required a lot of excavation and earth moving. This site was not easy to get to from the front street. They did an excellent job of accessing the rear yard without causing any damage to existing landscaping, sprinklers, edging, etc.

I was gone when they did the work. But they were able to do it BEFORE they expected.. That can't always happen for them, but this time it did and they were on it. I was very pleased. Very.
Description of Work: A tree had been damaged in a recent storm and was blocking part of the driveway. I could get in and out but the delivery truck was going to have a problem. They arranged to get it down vbefore the truck came. Top notch, these guys are!

This is the second time I have used Shogan Brothers. They did a series of tiered railroad tie planters the first time. These guys are very professional and thorough. My yard looked so much better when they were finished. They even went beyond the call of duty and removed the weeds that were growing ( actually dead because of winter) between my street and the curb. They also had a number of suggestions for spring planting which I plan on having them do when the warm weather returns. I won't even bother to call other landscapers now...Shogan Brothers are 2 for 2.

As I understand they don't do that many residential lawns anymore; they do bigger jobs. They did practically everyone on our street. The price was very reasonable. I liked everything about the service. They were Johnny-on-the-spot. They always did a good job. They were very easy to reach. I had a new porch put in and I wanted to get flowers put along the walk and they came over and told me what flowers they would recommend. I had them do it the first year. Sometimes I thought they undercharged me.

The job changed, but they were very good about coming out and adapting to it. They came out several times and made several judgements over the course of two-months time. They weren't stuck with one idea, but they stuck with us and worked with us. They did some extra work, but stuck with the price they quoted us.
Description of Work: We hired Shogan Brother Landscaping to do major landscaping work after a flood. We hired them to put in french drains and completely redo our landscaping. They also built a couple of small walls and planting bed.

Shogan Brothers were referred to me by a man who's judgement I respect. Dean Shogan came out immediately, talked about the job and gave me a firm quote of $1200. He and his brother came out a few days later and completed the task. There was about a ton of soil left piled up after the job. dean Shogan explained that he would not be able to remove it until the snow melted. I held back $100 and paid him for the wall. About 10 days later he called me to say that the soil had been removed. Normally I would do this type of work myself but had to hire somebody this time around. I was satisfied with the price of $1200. They probably could have done it for a hundred or so less. But I was satisfied.
Description of Work: About forty feet of block retaining wall 4 ft. high collapsed from weight of snow and water. Shogan Brothers rebuilt the wall using existing blocks and placed another ton of clean limestone gravel behind new wall to assist with drainage

Dean and Dave tore down an old retaining wall (about 3-4 feet high) at the back of our property and rebuilt it with Versalock blocks. It was a little tricky, because of the proximity of our neighbor's trees to the wall. They also removed our old fence and rebuilt it after building the new wall, saving us lots of money and trouble. The wall looks great, and our neighbors even complimented us/them on their work!

I have used their services for 20 years. Throughout this time, I have built a good rapport with them. I appreciate their billing as it is all itemized. The price is comparable to other lawn care service companies. I continue my service with them as I understand them and they understand me. They are not certified. Therefore, they are not able to answer many questions on the upkeep and maintenance of landscaping and lawn care. The charge is based on a weekly expense.
Description of Work: I do not have a written contract. Rather the company cares for my medium sized yard on a weekly basis. On the last visit, they mowed, trimmed bushes and applied fertilizer.

Shogan Bros landscaping is two twin brothers, Dave and Dean Shogan. I found them on Angie s List. They responded to my initial call quickly and provided a handwritten quote during their initial visit. Dave and Dean performed all the work themselves over 3 consecutive days (approx. 6 man days of labor in total). Because the work involved could be done in December, a less busy time for landscapers, the price I paid is less than it would been in spring, summer, or fall. The Shogan's were responsible and reliable throughout the process. There were no unpleasant surprises whatsoever. In comparison to two other landscaping contractors with whom I have had dealings, my experience with Dave and Dean was far superior from start to finish. I expect to engage them again for additional work.
Description of Work: Work was performed in Dec 06. Removed 9 existing mature shrubs, straightened an existing sidewalk (about 40' long) comprised of 2' by 2' concrete slabs (this included replacing several broken pieces), built three concrete block window wells, ground down numerous stumps and prepared (including additional soil) two new raised shrub beds (approx. 250 sq. ft. total) ready for spring planting, installed new 'rock' bed using edged fabric membrane covered by 1/2 ton of stones (approx. 70 sq. ft.), and extended an existing underground drainpipe approximately 10'. The quality of all work performed was excellent, and my property was left neat and clean at the conclusion.

THEY WERE RESPONSIVE AND HELPFUL IN EXPLAINING WHAT THE WORK WOULD ENTAIL.
Description of Work: DEAN CAME WITH HIS BROTHER TO ESTIMATE SOME WORK NEEDED INVOLVING THE REBUILDING OF A RETAINING WALL AND THE SLOPING OF A HILL. THEY INITIALLY QUOTED $1500 AND THEN CALLED BACK THE NEXT DAY APOLOGIZING THAT THEY WERE TIRED WHEN THEY GAVE ME THE QUOTE, AND THE ACTUAL QUOTE WOULD BE $1200. I APPRECIATE THEIR HONESTY AND THEY WERE RESPONSIVE AND PROVIDED A QUOTE WITHIN 2 DAYS.

Customer service is NOT a primary concern for the Shogans. The cutters are rude and not very effective, sent to cut the grass and leave - they are NOT concerned about your property looking good. Responsiveness from the office staff is OK, but talking to anyone who shows up to do the work is like talking to a wall. They DO NOT care about anything except loading up the truck and getting out of there.
