A few weeks back I came home and my oil heater wasn't working. The house was about 50 degrees and I was able to get it started up again but the entire house smelled like oil. The following morning I called Ferro, having dealt w/ them as my oil supplier. They came out first thing in the morning to tell me that my heater had a crack in it and would need to be replaced. I asked them how quickly it could be done since the temperature was about to drop. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they would have a whole new heater there and installed by the end of the day. I first started using Ferro back in 2005. I came home from a business trip to find that my heater was out of oil. It was 3:00 in the morning and people still used the Yellow Pages back then, i called 3 numbers before them but they were the first to call back. They came within an hour and I had a warm house shortly after. They are the only heating and AC company I will ever use. Professional, helpful and just great people to deal with...

We called Ferro Oil on the morning of Dec 28 because our oil-heat boiler for baseboard radiator heat was not working right. Our house smelled like oil and the carbon-monoxide alarm in our basement was beeping - so something definitely was not working correctly. Ferro's serviceman, Dominic, came to our home that afternoon - he was very professional and courteous - he cleaned everything out (and by-the-way his deep cleaning was much more than the cleaning we got only three weeks earlier from a competitor. Dominic also gave the unit a typical tune-up and got the boiler/heater unit working properly again. Most importantly, Dominic corrected either inadvertent, or possibly purposeful, mistakes left by the prior serviceman (McManus) who was referred to us by another competitor (Oil Depot). At that time, the prior serviceman tried to scare my us into purchasing a new fuel pump for an additional $400 on top of the $175 cleaning/tune-up fee. We declined the new fuel pump replacement because our had boiler had been running fine prior to his visit. The tech then warned my us that our boiler would soot-up and that it was a fire hazard -- saying as he left that we'd be calling him back soon. He even asked us to sign a warning waiver. According to Dominic, this other serviceman made the following mistakes - (i) he did not clean out the combustion chamber which was heavily caked in layers of soot, (ii) he used the wrong oil fuel nozzle putting too much oil into the chamber, (iii) he had the pressure at 250psi when is should've been much lower at 140 psi - again putting too much oil into the chamber, and (iv) he kept the oil filter top loose when caused the fuel pump to spit and misfire. These mistakes produce an exaggerated amount of soot within our boiler unit which is why is backed up only three weeks after the prior cleaning service. Apparently, Dominc found no problem at all with our fuel pump after making the proper tune-up adjustments and after correctly tightening the fuel filter top. Dominic could have easily taken advantage of us but he is an honest serviceman who takes pride in his craft. We appreciate Dominic's effort and will make Ferro our first call for future service and for future oil delivery. In addition, we are recommending Ferro to all of our friends, family, and neighbors.

Very responsive to someone who isn't a contract customer yet. Their price was like half my current company's price for the same job. Work completed in a timely fashion. Personable. No gimmicks

We've had Ferro as our oil supply company for a few years now and we've always gotten the top of the line service plan and maybe used it once in the last 3-5 years outside of the normal annual service. This year, we had to have our line from tank to burner re-routed due to other work being done in our basement which our service plan didn't cover. They charged about $175/hr. for the labor. We liked the service people they sent and they seemed knowledgeable and personable. A few days after the line was run, we had no heat suddenly. We called, and they came and fixed it saying there was air in the line. A few days later, no heat again, and they came to fix with the same report of air being in the line. A few days later, no heat again, and late in the evening on a Friday, they still sent someone out quickly to help us. He said he'd come back the following day to install a check valve which he did but he did not mention anything about charging us labor fees for that. There had been no charge for any of the other follow-ups until the check valve installation and upon receiving that bill I complained since we had already paid a large sum to have the line installed which resulted in many breakdowns and then even after the valve was installed, we had to call again as we were without heat a few days later. Finally after 5 breaks, they fixed whatever the issue was that was causing it and we haven't had another problem since. After questioning the hourly charge for fixing work that had been paid for when we also have a service contract, they removed the fee with no hassle which I greatly appreciated. We like the service people, they come quickly when called and oil is delivered promptly as well. We've had better experiences with this company than some others, and while they may not be the cheapest, they are also not the most costly out there. I thought it was good customer service to withdraw a labor fee when the customer wasn't informed about it up-front. I would continue to use their services.

My experience with this company goes back several years. Until recently, I would have given them a much better rating. Every year I purchase a contract that covers an annual cleaning and parts and labor for service calls. This year I purchased the same contact. Everything was fine until mid January when I had no heat. My oil was low, so I thought that my gauge was wrong and I was out of oil. After filling the tank, I still had no heat. I called them for a "no heat" service. The service technician replaced my fuel pump and said everything was fine. A week later I received a bill for the service call that should have been covered under my contract. When I called, I was told that even though the contract states that the part is covered, they were not going to cover it because it was my fault the pump went because I ran out of oil, which was not accurate. I got into an argument on the phone with one of the owners. He finally agreed to credit the invoice, informed me that he would honor the remainder of the contract but would not renew it again. A week later, I had no heat. When I called I was told that I did not have a contract and that I would have to pay for them to come out to my house. Once again, I had to argue with the office staff and one of the owners about my contract. They told me that the decided that my heater was "in-serviceable" and that they would not honor the contract. I was extremely upset and ended the call. Five minutes later, they called back and said they were sending someone out. The technician determined that a fitting on my oil supply line was not tight. He said it needed to be replaced but he didn't have the part. He said he tightened it and it should be fine. He also said that he checked the rest of the line for a leak and there was no problem. A week later, no heat again. The same technician came out and replaced the fitting and said it should be fine. Ten days later, no heat again. A different technician came out this time. The first thing he did was bang on my oil tank and told me it sounded empty. I stated that the gauge shows between 3/8 and 1/2 tank. He said it's probably broken. A short time later he determined that the new fitting just needed to be tightened. About an hour after he left, I received a phone call from the office. They stated that my oil line needed to be replaced from the tank to the burner because there is a leak and that it would not be covered under my contract. They recommended that I have the work done before it failed again. I did not schedule the work because I didn't trust them. Now, 2 days later, I am without heat again and in search of a new company. I have no confidence in them and will not use them again.

We were told by another company that the fire box in our furnace was collapsing. We took estimates from several companies and our neighbor recommended we listen to Ferro. Based on the professionalism of the presentation and competitive price we selected Ferro to do our work. The quality of the work was excellent, timely and very professional. In the process of removing the oil furnace, they found that there was a hole in the exhaust pipe to the chimney and not the fire box. We were upset with the other company but are enjoying the move to Natural Gas and glad we selected Ferro.I would recommend Ferro to anyone.
Description of Work: Replaced furnace and air conditioner. After receiving bids and interviewed several companies. We hired Ferro to replace furnace, air conditioner and update fire place. We replaced oil furnace with natural Gas furnace.
