Very disappointed by this review... Customer is in my opinion painting a VERY INACCURATE picture of what really happened. AND I WOULD JUST LIKE TO REMIND EVERYONE, PLEASE LOOK AT THE REVIEWS IN WHICH OUR COMPANY HAS ACTUALLY DONE THE WORK, THEY ARE ALL A'S. The ONLY NEGATIVE REVIEWS we have are REVIEWS IN WHICH NO WORK WAS PERFORMED. The short version of what actually happened... First, getting a roofing permit is normally a very easy process... The township in which customer's home is located just had hired an outside inspection agency to take over inspections, consequently nobody at the township seemed to really even know what the process was in order to get the permit... The vast majority of the time a roofing permit can be secured strictly through the internet/fax, and again is very simple and painless... The customer wanted to move quickly to have the work done once they had decided to use us for the job. This property was vacant for a while, the roof was leaking, it needed a lot of work, and the customer wanted to get it moving. The reason I couldn't personally handle getting the permit was simply because I was ON VACATION THE WEEK DURING WHICH THE PERMIT NEEDED TO BE SECURED IN ORDER FOR WORK TO BEGIN ON TIME. Now, I still had correspondence with customer's partner JUST ABOUT EVERY DAY OF MY VACATION trying to help her through the process since it was pretty "confusing". I also spoke to all of the powers that be, township, and inspection agency, several times WHILE ON VACATION trying to help sort it all out. Customer had told me that there was "a little mold" on the underside of the plywood, and a few rafters that may need to be reinforced (he had already torn out the ceiling and insulation because he was aware of the mold/leaks/ventilation issues). The day we were suppose to begin work I arrived at the customer's property at 715 am (it's also about a 3 hr round trip for me as well) with my crew. The first thing I did upon arrival was look through the windows to see for myself the extent of the mold/rot/structural issues. There was quite a bit of damage, definitely more than a "little mold", and rafters that needed to be replaced, not re-inforced, and both existing skylight openings needed to be re-framed. BOTTOM LINE, DEFINITELY MORE STRUCTURAL WORK THAN CUSTOMER HAD DESCRIBED... So, I wasn't going to begin work until I COULD GET INSIDE TO SEE EXACTLY WHAT STRUCTURAL ISSUES WE WERE GETTING INTO. So I COULD BE PREPARED FOR THE ADDITIONAL WORK (GET MATERIALS NEEDED), AND SO WE (CUSTOMER AND MYSELF) COULD AGREE, IN WRITING, FOR A COST ON THE ADDITIONAL WORK. Anytime I'm aware of SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF ADDITIONAL WORK, that is how I like to proceed, that way THERE ARE NO SURPRISES FOR EITHER PARTY... I waited on site with my crew (which was being paid to sit there) until about 9 am. I had tried to call customer several times to see if he was on his way/if he was coming, I couldn't get in touch with him. A little after 9 am I decided to leave, I wasn't going to sit there all day paying a crew of men not to work... We had another job close by that was ready for us, so we went on to that job... Customer did eventually get back to us, BUT WE WERE ALREADY ON SITE AND WORKING AT ANOTHER JOB. IF CUSTOMER HAD SHOWN UP EARLIER THE JOB WOULD HAVE BEGUN... So, we tried a few times over the next FEW WEEKS, NOT "FEW MONTHS", to re-schedule for a TIME THAT THE CUSTOMER COULD BE THERE EARLY AM, SO AGAIN I COULD GET INSIDE AND ASSESS THE ADDITIONAL STRUCTURAL WORK, GET THE ADDITIONAL MATERIALS NEEDED, AND AGREE UPON A PRICE WITH HIM. I realized he was a busy man, and it had been raining quite a bit, I WAS MORE THAN FAIR AND VERY ACCOMMODATING IN COMING UP WITH A DATE THAT WORKED FOR HIM. On my second trip up there I got a call from my roofing supplier that THEIR TRUCK had broke down that morning. I received this call when I was about 15 minutes from customer's property... So, I could not get the shingles that day. I was not about to TEAR OFF A ROOF i COULDN'T PUT BACK DOWN WITH RAIN SUPPOSEDLY COMING THE NEXT DAY IN THE FORECAST... I called the customer and let him know that because of the truck issue we would have to put it off until Monday. The job was only getting put off for 1 whopping work day, from a Friday to the following Monday... At that point I HAD 2 "WASTED TRIPS", at about 3 hrs a piece, with a crew of 5 men I had to pay for the travel time. Keep in mind that this job was at worst a 2 day event for us, that's including any/all additional structural work. I also had a VERY SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF "OFFICE" TIME INTO THIS JOB, MUCH MORE THAN A STANDARD RESIDENTIAL ROOF REPLACEMENT... Many, many phone calls, probably 30 different emails. I COULD NOT AFFORD ANY MORE "DOWN TIME" on this job... I told the customer that I had 2 CONDITIONS if work were to proceed, 1. THAT SOMEONE BE THERE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING on the day work was to begin SO I COULD ONCE AND FOR ALL ASSESS THE STRUCTURAL WORK, AND WE COULD AGREE ON A PRICE FOR THAT WORK, 2. THAT HE WOULD HE HAVE TO SIMPLY SIGN AN "ACKNOWLEDGEMENT STATEMENT" simply stating that THERE WAS AN EXISTING MOLD ISSUE, AND THAT MOLD ISSUE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH US. We were not there to remediate the mold, CUSTOMER WAS SUPPOSE TO HANDLE THAT HIMSELF. These would be the 'UNTENABLE TERMS" the customer refers to in his review. I think that MOST PEOPLE would find these terms both fair and reasonable TO BOTH PARTIES INVOLVED... I told the customer these terms WERE NOT NEGOTIABLE, think them over, and get back to me when he decided... Obviously, for whatever reason, he found those terms unacceptable... One last thing I would like to comment on, customer states something to affect that my company was "too small" to work that far away under "adverse" (or something to that affect) conditions... that is simply NOT THE CASE... IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN RESEARCHING THE "SIZE" OR OUR COMPANY, PLEASE CALL KEN LAINO AT 570-992-5600. KEN is the manager of the area's LARGEST ROOFING SUPPLIER, and he can tell you that NOT ONLY ARE WE ONE OF HIS BIGGEST ACCOUNTS, but we are one of the first people he would call TO REPLACE HIS OWN ROOF...
