The initial process of getting an estimate and setting up the move was tedious and annoying. Dealing with their customer service people was the worst part. Once we got through that, the guys that showed up to pack our things and move us were better than I hoped! The team that moved our furniture was fabulous. They worked hard, they were professional, they were respectful of my children and dog which is not always easy during the chaos of moving. All in all, they were great!

Moving from one side of the city to the other, the movers were incredibly efficient. They arrived fifteen minutes early (awesome) and one hour later they had packed up two bedrooms, a living room, and miscellaneous other items in their truck. They would have taken more but my husband and I weren't as far along in our packing as we should have been. They drove straight to the new location and unpacked just as quickly. They were incredibly polite. They insisted on putting things into the correct rooms. We had a bed that we were hoping to put onto a loft only accessible by ladder, they moved the bed for us without hesitation. There were also a few items we wanted to remove from the home but not move to the new home. They did this without hesitation. Ended up costing less than expected because they movers moved so quickly. If you're looking for a fast and efficient move with friendly workers, this is your company. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

We highly recommend South Hills Movers. It was important to us to have a confirmed date of delivery (not a range of dates) because on the Chicago end we had to reserve the building elevator for a specific day and pay a fee for that. It also was important to know that the person who was familiar with our goods and saw them loaded on the truck in Pittsburgh would be there to see them unloaded in Chicago. The best part of the move was Darryl St. Cyr, who was in charge of packing up the boxes in Pittsburgh and traveling with the boxes to Chicago to unload them. On both ends of the move Darryl and his crew were attentive to our needs and helpful with our requests. The job was done with great professionalism not only in the packing but in the interaction between us as well as between the workers themselves whom Darryl oversaw. I have never seen a crew of co-workers address each other as ?sir?, but I could see that this created an atmosphere of respect not only to each other but also to the property they were handling. I had the opportunity to see Darryl training a new person and, again with respect, he pointed out every aspect of packing that needs attention. From hearing those packing rules, I knew our property would get good care. The pricing was the same as other movers (who could not give a specific delivery date) quoted. Ours was a very large house (3 stories and basement) and the pricing was within the norm of such a move. Moving is a challenging time but South Hills eased the typical worries. Our property (including valuable art) arrived in excellent condition. We would gladly use South Hills again for a move.

My wife is 76 and is crippled by arthritis. She can hobble along a short distance if she uses her walker. If she has to walk very far, we use her wheelchair. I'll be 70 next month and I am my wife's caretaker. We enjoy our life together, and we plan to live in our house as long as possible. Race Street in Edgewood gets a lot of traffic. It is one-way with parking allowed only on one side (our side). My wife has a reserved handicapped parking place in front of our house. The Borough approved it for her exclusive use. The family that was being moved by the company asked the Edgewood police to prohibit parking in front of three houses (ours and the two uphill from us) for the three days. Temporary signs were put up by the police. PROBLEM # 1: We parked somewhere else Sunday night expecting a moving van to need the space. However there turned out to be no need for any restricted parking on Monday at all. A smaller truck parked in our handicapped space all day long. It was there to bring flat boxes and packing materials and was not visited very much. It could easily have parked in a space behind ours or in front of ours. So we were denied the use of our parking space and car Monday for no reason. We stayed home all day--not our preference, but we did not have any appointments with doctors or such. PROBLEM # 2: We tried to call South Hills Movers to find out if they really needed the restricted parking privilege on Tuesday. This was just before 5 p.m. when they close for the day. I quickly discovered that these people were not going to be easy to contact. The phone system has no operator. You can dial in the last name and get connected the voice said. I dialed L-E-E for the company president (the only name I had, from Angie's List). I heard "that is an invalid entry." I pushed "1" for Sales right around 5 p.m. hoping to get someone who could steer me to a responsible person. I was told to wait for the next available representative. This message came on and on, but my wife and I took turns for 40 minutes until our phone battery died. Apparently we could have listened to that message all night (maybe our old wireless phone was smarter than we were). I went to the company website--no luck: no names, no phone extensions, and (this floored me) no email addresses. It was not possible for me to send an email from my account to a company employee's email address. So it seemed we'd have to wait until Tuesday to speak with a company employee. We gave up our parking place early on Tuesday morning after a bit of a squabble a the front door. It seemed the big moving truck was here and at last they really did need the parking places so traffic could pass. Now my wife and I focused wholeheartedly on getting in touch with a responsible person at the company. Finally we reached Bonnie Pearson who said she was the Safety Officer and had management authority. PROBLEM # 3: I told her that Wednesday we needed to get to an appointment at noon, and we wanted to work something out so I could bring the car to the front of the house briefly so I could help my wife down the steps and into the car and off we'd go. The moving van would probably be gone before we returned in mid-afternoon, and maybe it would even be gone by 11:30 when we planned to get into the car. Bonnie said she thought she could make the necessary arrangements. The truck could move briefly of traffic could be routed around us. She would contact the on-site foreman Aaron Smith by phone and email, and notify the dispatcher as well to set up the arrangement. Wednesday morning came and we were parked somewhere else, out of the way. In mid-morning I went over to the truck to speak with Aaron and make sure everything was in place. I was shocked when he told me he would not move the truck. I told him that was not what Bonnie and I had agreed to. He did not seem to care. Bonnie's authority did not seem to mean much to him. I called Bonnie and she said she had done the best she could. Now clearly my wife and I were on our own to get our old bodies (her's crippled as well) into our car which was parked down the hill a ways. I helped her down the steps and into the wheelchair which I had placed on the sidewalk by the curb. I was able to control the wheelchair going down the hill to the car but it was a bit scary. So we got to our appointment in one piece. When we returned the truck was gone, and we parked in our space like we normally do. Back to PROBLEM # 2: Since we were greatly inconvenienced and my wife's safety was at risk by Aaron's unwillingness to follow the plan, we wanted very much to speak by phone with or send an email to a top management person at the company and discuss what had happened. Again the company's firewall prevented any contact in spite of some serious attempts. And you know, we were customers of theirs in a move about five years ago. I sent an email to the Better Business Bureau, not to file a complaint, but to see if I could get contact information. I knew about Mr. Lee's name from Angie's, and the BBB added Bill Brack, Public Relations. But no phone extensions or email addresses; just the company's central phone number. Stonewalled by the firewall, and condemned to never being heard? Not by a long shot. My first post is here to Angie's. In a few days the next will be a BBB complaint . Then Yelp and whatever. I can wait until the company contacts me. That takes very little effort. Here is my phone number: 412-243-1940. See, it's not that hard to do.
Description of Work: South Hills Movers boxed up and moved away the household goods of our neighbors across the street during the three days Monday August 4 to Wednesday August 6. They caused us a great deal of inconvenience when they could have accommodated us (that is my wife's special needs) with little or no extra effort. They created safety risks for us and they misled us. Everything was made more complicated because they have constructed a firewall that makes it impossible to contact a manager with any authority by phone or email.

Below expectations: The workers were unpleasant to interact with. They seemed constantly p***** off at the world. Some took excessively long breaks or hid out while their partners did extra lifting. By the end of the move, one sofa had water damage because the truck leaked in the rain; a variety of hardware was lost (fortunately easily replaced) but the biggest concern were to rosewood shelves that went AWOL. These shelves are not replaceable and belong to a mid-century piece. It is possible they are layered in the basement where we stored some items but for now they are lost. We are putting a claim in and I hope they don't make a fuss.

The four guys that worked on our move could not have been nice, more conscientious, more helpful, more anything. They were just wonderful. The whole process to set up the move went amazingly well, we even had to push the move out after it was schedule due to an illness and there was no problem at all. The move itself went great, and even though it took a little longer then expected, they stuck to their estimate. Nothing was broken, everything was cared for and the team was a pleasure. Would use these guys again in a heartbeat.

I would hire no other movers in the tri-state area of Pittsburgh. I was completely impressed with the professionalism in setting up the estimate which was very close to the final cost. The movers, 4 men, arrived on time, moved me in and out with the utmost professionalism. The men worked in perfect unison with two packing the apartment, one carrying/rolling to the truck, and one stacking; the same with unloading. They took the utmost care of my belongings, and set up all of my furniture after unpacking. They moved a few pieces around at my request and ensured I was completely satisfied. I am completely impressed. The men were courteous, respectful, and very personal and comfortable to be around all day. If I ever move again, I would only call South Hills Movers.

They were fantastic from the beginning of the process to the end of it! They even took it one step further by following up with us the next week - Amazing!! Who does that now days? I would highly recommend them and I would use them again without hesitation! Other companies should take note of their serve oriented mind set, professionalism, and customer service skills! They are in a league all by themselves. And a quick shout out to South Hills Movers - Thank you so much for making my mother's move from Pittsburgh to Ohio a smooth one. I could not have done it without you!
Description of Work: They relocated my mother from Pittsburg to Ohio. They took the large items from my mother's house apart, as needed and packed them up according to the specific needs, loaded them into their truck and stored it at their warehouse until the next morning. The next morning, they arrived on time to deliver, unloaded and put it all back together again. These two men worked very hard the whole time they were there and did not stop until it was completed! My mother's furniture is very big and very heavy so this was no easy task! We chose to pack up all of closets and kitchen things in order to keep costs within our budget and we moved these separately. This was a good decision and worked well for us. We treated the guys to pizza and tipped them.

I have mixed feelings about my experience. I had to find a mover very quickly and they came out right away to give me a estimate and agreed to moved my mother's belongings in 2 days. We arranged a time I could be at the apartment for the move as my mom was in the hospital and with my schedule I was very clear and specific about what time I could meet for the move. I get a confirmation call the next afternoon and it was the wrong time. I tried repeatedly to reach the scheduler and couldn't get a hold of anybody. The day of the move comes and I get a call from the apartment bldg. staff that the movers are there hours early so it was a frantic drive from the North Hills to the South hills leaving my son's school to get there. The movers themselves were great and did a nice job. One of the guys told me that this is a common occurrence with the wrong time/schedule. I received a follow up call a few days later to see how everything went and I told the rep about my experience and she said they would look into it. I never heard anything back.

The estimator was dead on. Other estimates we got were lower, but it turned out that the cost per pound would have been higher, and the South Hills Mover's estimate of weight was pretty much dead on. The movers packed everything very carefully, and were very friendly and easy-going. The only thing I would say is that they got there earlier than we were expected and we weren't completely ready for them. Also... If you have the movers packing your stuff, be aware that they will pack EVERYTHING they see. If you don't want something packed, move it out of their reach well before they can get to it. The move was completely uneventful, otherwise. From the looks of things, there was very little damage--far less than in any previous moves I've made. I think they did a great job and, while it cost a lot of money, they were probably about as good a deal for what I got, all things considered. I'd definitely use them again, no question.

Great movers on all accounts. My new company selected them for my relo, and I would definitely recommend them. Punctual, professional, thorough and worked hard. If any questions they made sure to ask first to ensure our satisfaction. I ordered meals for the crew on both pack & unload days and they were always extremely appreciative. I have several heavy antique pieces, including a china hutch and armoire, and they delivered them safely. They brought extra staff on unload day,- fast and highly orchestrated.

Overview: Kevin and his 3-person crew did a great job (over our 2-day move) managing our move from end-2-end. Scope: This was a local move (locations were 10mins apart and storage was 15 mins apart). The first day was allocated to moving part of our household contents to a smaller footprint (moving from a 4 to 3 bedroom / moving from 2,400 to 1,500 Sq./Ft ) and the second day was allocated to moving the remainder of our household goods into storage. Details: Ron, the South Hills Mover's (SHM) estimator was prompt and effective in sizing up our move costs (actual costs were within 5% of his estimate). Bonnie, the South Hills Mover's (SHM) Customer Service Manager did a great job following up with us prior to the move to help set expectations and coach us on what was expected of us on move day. Move Day: The move team arrived on time both days. Kevin (lead team member) made sure that his 3-person move team accompanied us with the initial room-to-room walk-thru to review what was being moved and to discuss any nuances the team needed to be aware of. I thought this was a good idea since it eliminated the chance of anything getting lost in translation. Kevin did this at both locations and at the storage facility on the second day. I was very impressed with his leadership skills on both days of our move. He was very professional and it was clear that he was a pro at the whole moving process. In general, I found the move-team to be professional and courteous as they moved efficiently and effectively through the house. The team members were not afraid to stop and ask questions when they came across something we did not discuss. Moving is always a somewhat stressful event. However, in my view and experience with South Hills Movers they did a great job delivering on their promise and I would use them again. I want to thank Ron, Bonnie, Kevin and his move-team for doing a great job in meeting and exceeding my expectations. A special Kudos to Kevin and his leadership skills, he did a great job leading his team throughout the move.
Description of Work: South Hills Mover's (SHM) moved 4 Bedrooms 2.5 Baths (2,400 sq/ft) worth of household goods plus items in 2 car garage. The move was local with both locations 10 mins apart and the storage facility 15mins apart.
