If you are considering a kitchen/bathroom remodel please read this review. Our kitchen renovation project was started on May 7th. We are now on the cusp of entering the 5th month for this project and our kitchen is still not completed. To make matters worse I haven’t seen ANYONE from Brookside for a MONTH! We had sent an email to the construction manager and never received a response. The sad thing is that this was an ongoing experience during our remodel. They would work for a couple of days and then I wouldn’t see nor hear from anyone for a week +. (This happened way more then we would have expected). The only way I got them to show up was to continually call. I would have to call repeatedly to get my microwave hooked up. I would have to repeat the process to make sure someone was going to hookup our stove, plumbing, etc. I’ve paid 60K so far and I had to be a pseudo project manager! I now have my existing hardware floor cracking because we have been waiting for Brookside to finish the floor with a transition piece. I still have live wires exposed and holes still left in the wall. FOUR months and I still do not have all of my appliances hooked up in my kitchen. Cabinets that came in damaged still have not been replaced. It pains me to write this review but I honestly don’t know what to do at this point. This project has totally been mismanaged and communication has been nonexistent! I will say that the workers who have performed the work have been good to work with. The cabinets that we ordered we are happy with and Classic Rock, who performed the fabrication for the granite did an AWESOME job! (We did not have a conventional layout). If Brookside would have completed this project in a reasonable time frame (I was originally told they would be finished around the 4th of July) then I would have had a much more positive experience.

I hadn't thought about having my countertops replaced until I was in their showroom and saw these countertops. I fell in love with the counter top and decided to have it done. There was one small issue. I had seen what they call a waterfall effect on the island in their showroom and really wanted to have that done to my island. When they came out they told me that with my basement it may shift and crack the waterfall quartz piece. I did contact a structural engineer who was able to shore up everything in the basement below which allowed me to get the look I wanted. Everything was done very professionally and they turned out great. I was very satisfied with Brookside Lumber and Cambria.

The old door was drafty, provided poor insulation, and created condensation in cold weather. I expected that the new door would have a better fit and provide better insulation, and that is certainly the case. I love the new door. But I especially love the workmanship that went into its installation. The door to be replaced was a side door in our house, and immediately adjacent to it were two other interior doors, and a third door was very nearby. All of these interior doors had the same trim molding, and the molding for the door to be replaced was tucked-in behind that of the adjacent doors. I was afraid that the framing and molding for the old door could not be removed without damaging the molding of the interior doors, and that damage to the wall would necessitate a repair that might lead to repainting an entire large room. I needn’t have worried. Brookside’s installer, Doug, did a fantastic job. I cannot recommend him highly enough. There is not a mark on the other molding or the wall. The color and style of the new molding matches the old molding almost exactly. In addition, during installation, Doug found that the wood between the door threshold and the house foundation was rotted from years of water seepage. Under a separate work agreement, he removed all the rotten wood and covering siding, and replaced it pressure-treated wood, and built a small porch to provide better weather protection and ease of access to the new door. His repair was thorough and complete, and all of this work was done very well.

The experience was relatively easy from selecting a door, ordering, contract and installing. There were some very small touch ups needed on the door frame when installation was complete which brook side lumber took care of immediately. The installers showed up on time. Both men were extremely friendly and were completely done in about 5 hours.

After shopping around a little, I went to Brookside Lumber because of my prior favorable experience and their reputation for high quality materials and craftsmanship. Installation of the door was scheduled for a date about one month after I signed the contract. The installers arrived right on time, and worked for several hours removing the old door and installing the new one. As expected, the craftsmanship of the installation was excellent, and I am very pleased with the look and quality of the door and the sidelights. However, between the door and the sidelights were two 3-inch wide trim panels, that did not at all match the appearance of the rest of the installation. The door and sidelights had a Mahogany finish with a very tight grain, but the trim panels had a very wide-open grain that looked like pine or oak and which, when stained the color of the door, displayed a very bright wavy pattern. When looking at the door, one's eyes were immediately drawn to bright wavy pattern on the trim pieces and not the door. The day after the installation I went to Brookside Lumber, showed photos of the door and asked that those trim pieces be replaced with something that matched the door. I expected that they would take one look and say, "Yeah, that's not right. We'll fix it." But they did not. Instead, their initial response was to justify these trim pieces, saying that the use of such trim is standard practice. Over the next two weeks I sent an email and several photos, visited the store twice, and ultimately mailed a two-page letter to a senior manager of the store . Finally, two and half weeks after I first raised the issue, Brookside agreed to replace the trim pieces. Installers arrived a few days later, and within a half hour replaced the trim with pieces that matched the door. Given the ease with which the problem was fixed, I do not understand why is was so difficult for Brookside to agree to do the repair in the very beginning. Eventually, as I expected, Brookside Lumber (to its credit) fixed the problem, but I was surprised and disappointed that it took so much time and effort on my part to get Brookside to agree to do so. Accordingly, I rate Brookside "excellent" for quality of the door and craftsmanship, but only "fair" for responsiveness and professionalism.

Overall the experience was excellent! Work was completed on schedule, including items which were added beyond the original contract. The installation crew was very professional; well-equipped to do the job; and cleaned up thoroughly after each visit. They went out of their way to make sure the job was done right.
Description of Work: Ordered delivered and installed: new quartz countertops throughout kitchen; "lazy susan" shelves in corner cabinet; roll-out shelves in base cabinet; tilt-out shelf in front of sink; new sink and faucet. Also picked up and installed new dishwasher and garbage disposer (purchased elsewhere).

The prices are as good as the big box stores, and, for me, the experience was more relaxed when talking to the salesperson. We chose the doors to have installed over several visits. I like to think about things, look at samples, and shop around. The key to these type of endeavors, in my opinion, is the installer. Doug Martin was suggested as their best guy. He really is that good. He is meticulous and takes his time. The sliding glass doors we were replacing allowed some water damage on the deckplate for the house. The wood was rotting. Doug replaced the wood and did a beautiful installation. He had to make some adjustments on the entrance way to install the front door. It wasn't quite plumb. He did such a beautiful repair that you can't tell it wasn't right to begin with. The bottom line is, the material we bought was excellent quality, at a good price. We were happy with all aspects from beginning to end.

Visited Brookside Lumber looking for a door and transom to fit our kitchen; we are having a deck put in and needed a door for access. The gentleman who works in the doors was not very friendly at first. We were very put off by him, but as the conversation developed about what we needed he was very knowledgeable. Although we were not pleased with his courteousness, we don't have many options in the area so decided to move forward. We were quoted a decent price and ordered a custom door and transom (I say custom because the door had to be cut down a couple of inches) and it arrived on time (about 2-3 weeks). Overall we are pleased, just wish the initial contact would have been more pleasant.

They cut me a deal when I had to install them because I had some better cabinets. We found out that the cabinets I got were on sale at the factory. After I had already paid and signed the paperwork, they called me and honestly told me I could get the cabinets for cheaper, and offered me the discount anyway. Their quality of lumber is much better than at the big box stores, and with a lower cost as well. After I had the end panels put in, one of them was scratched, and so they ordered me a new one. It took a while for me to get it, maybe four or four and a half weeks. One of the owners, Bruce, called me up and told me he considered that wait to be a bit excessive. He offered to knock some off the price for me, and ended up giving me a 10% discount on material on the next project I did with him.

We had several companies come out to quote the project. It became very clear that some contractors were better than others. We had 2 companies tell us it wasn't possible to get the door we wanted into the existing space, had one contractor say he didn't know how he would do it but that he would get it done (he never followed up with a quote), and then the contractor from Brookside Lumber went through the entire process from start to finish on how he would approach the project. They were great at communicating how the project would go from start to finish, were punctual, and generally nice guys. I was impressed with how they completely sealed off the "construction area" from the rest of the house with plastic, cleaned up after the project was completed and followed up a week later in person to ensure everything set the way it was intended to. I waited until now to review because I wanted to gauge if there were any defects from cutting into concrete walls, functionality of the doors and that the new cement stoop held up.
Description of Work: We had an original exterior door that we wanted to have replaced a more standard sized door and one that was energy efficient. Also, a corresponding storm door. This project was more difficult because the original door was not a standard size, our walls were concrete and a cement stoop had to be removed and replaced in order to get the door installed.

The work was done well; in a timely fashion; with no mess left behind. The installers arrived promptly, at the time they said would. They worked quickly, were very respectful of our possessions and did the work quickly. We are very pleased with all aspects of the experience -- from the in-store visit, to the estimator's home visit, to the installation.
Description of Work: They installed three very large windows (11 individual panes) across the front of our house. We, of course, were very concerned with, not only the window quality, but also with the appearance.

My wife had three consultations at the store and was impressed with how she was treated. We priced other places, such as Home Depot and found Brookside lumber to actually be a little less than their competition. what did cost more was the installation. We always try to find the best installers, feeling that the installation is just as important as the product. So, we spent about $100 more for the installation than it would have cost at Home Depot. I have to mention that Home Depot and Lowes seem to always have "installers wanted" signs. We would rather get someone with a good reputation. I, along with my wife, met with Brian at Brookside Lumber twice after my wife's initial visits and I got a lot of helpful information about doors etc. The installer was fantastic. Everything fits perfectly. We are very happy with the whole process.
Description of Work: We purchased and had installed two entrance doors for the house. The main entrance door is a high end fibreglass door painted at the factory. The rear entry door is a middle priced steel door also painted at the factory. Aluminum cladding around the doors, hardware, and threshold were included in the price.
