October 2011: Affordable decks did a great job adding a porch roof and renovating a garage roof in preparation for us selling our house. With that positive experience we asked Mr Valperga to evaluate out prospective new home provide us with a quote for the windows and siding that would need to be repaired and/or replaced. He very kindly came round at short notice, looked at the work to be done and provided us with a quote. March 2012: We had moved in in December 2011 and we now wanted to get on the schedule for getting the previously quoted work done. Unfortunately after numerous phone messages and email left for Mr Valperga and the company we received absolutely no response from the company. I initially was concerned that they may have gone out of a business but this is not the case. My greatest disappointment and surprise with this company is the total lack of professionalism in dealing with this second quote(which was so counter to the first experience). If the owner had simply contacted me back and informed that he no longer wanted the work and why then I would not be writing this review.

I was very pleased with the overall experience. Mike showed up when he said he would to take measurements, provide a rough sketch and a ballpark estimate. I changed my mind on the original sketch, so he actually came twice. He emailed us the official CAD drawing, contract and measurements. The deck took about two weeks to complete. There were two men who completed the project and both were professional. I was very happy with the completed deck and still am two months later. We haven't had any problems. My only complaints would be that the AZEK decking (not the wolmanized beams) were delivered about three weeks before construction began, so we had AZEK decking sitting in our driveway for awhile. Also we were never notified the exact day work would begin. The workers just showed up one day. (I did know that work would begin mid-June just not the exact date). Overall, as previously stated, I was happy with the work and would use them again.

While the quote was good, we had multiple communication issues with this office. They called and asked to complete the job ahead of schedule, but we were unavailable to do so, so we asked if they could push us back to the next available slot and they did not respond. Then, the day after we said they couldn't come, the materials showed up in our driveway (no notice, no warning); we emailed and called and asked for status updates and didn't hear about anything until the workers showed up to build the deck. Deck builder didn't notice the lights on the order so they had to send another contractor out later to install them after the fact. No one followed up after the deck was built to check for satisfaction. When we finally did get contacted (regarding final bill), we asked that they come to inspect the deck; they scheduled a saturday appointment and no one showed up. I've not received any more calls or any repair of the deck.

The contractor was punctual in that he showed up on the day scheduled, April 15, 2011 at 2 pm. He was very personal, but failed to deliver the estimate when promised. In fact, he never did provide an estimate for the work. If this is an example of what we could expect during and after the job-we'll pass on this contractor.

Dave showed up on time, listened to what I wanted, measured the dimensions, and provided a quick sketch of his vision. A few days later, I received a detailed email containing both the estimate and drawing. The estimate was for a wood deck, not composite. $9100 is more than we would like to spend on this type of deck, so will not hire the company.

He uses sub-contractors and the company only has office employees. We had 4 or 5 different people working on the deck (one showed up drunk on 2 occasions) and only one seemed to be really knowledgable about deck construction. They partially tore the deck down twice, because I didn't approve the quality of work. The inspector said the deck did not meet code, because it was not built as plans submitted, two support posts were missing and the railing did not meet code. The deck has to be redone and the house could not be sold as is. We hired a lawyer and sued Affordable only to find out that there were over 10 other lawsuits.

We worked with Dave Smith, and he did an excellent job with the estimate, which included a very realistic computer-generated picture. This really helped us to visualize the final product, and turned out to look very much like it actually does. The workman did a fantastic job, cleaned up the jobsite on a daily basis, and we have been extremely happy with the finished product. They really listened to our concerns pertaining to the staircase for our child and our dogs, and they even installed custom railings for us. We feel that our money was well spent on this project.

The workers were really nice to work with. Jeff, the owner, was very reliable and responsive before the project started and not at all once the project was started to completion. I did have a problem and after calling several times and threatening, he did come back out. I am pretty pleased with it now. I would probably not use them in the future.

Fantastic job with installation of a new Azek deck and gabled porch roof at a fair price. Quality of work performed by all crews was phenomial. Responsive in completing punch list items as well. Would recommend them to anyone as well as have them back in the future to do other work. A little hard in getting in touch with the office at times for questions or follow-up, but overall very happy with Affordable Decks and Additions.

Great. Porch still in great shape. One of the few things we've had done over the years that are happy with results and work. Would use again if needed. And highly recommend! Not positive of the date and amount I listed since long ago. But us and the porch still here.

After about a year, we reached out to Affordable Decks because of a couple of issues which developed with the desk. After several calls one of their technicians stopped by to look at the problems. He agreed that they were unusual and should be fixed at no charge. he agreed to send somebody - he didn't. I've seen them in the neighborhood for other projects too. We've left a 1/2 dozen messages for the folks at Affordable Decks and haven't recieved a return call let alone a visit. It's a shame when companies fail to stand by their products.

Never happened because they won't take the time to call those to whom they promise a call.

Not too well. I showed them where I wanted it to be. They proposed building it somewhere else. Possibly because it was easier for them to build there. I ended up spending $4800 for a deck that was 12X30, right where I wanted it to be.

We had some communication issues but I was satisfied with the deck.

They are the ones who built my deck a year and a half ago. I wasn't very pleased when the boards warped after such a little time. I also felt that their staining job wasn't too good. The good thing is that they came in and fixed all these problems for free, but it took weeks for them to finally come out and fix it.

We worked with this company for several months trying to get plans and a contract in writing. They were very slow and even after meeting and providing what we wanted in writing the drawings would come back wrong. The price of the project fluctuated significantly with for very minor changes and became unreasonable. Fortunately we did not end up hiring them to do any work. Mr. Valperga is highly unprofessional and I would not recommend working with them. Since our bad experience, we have heard from countless friends and neighbors who had similar or worse experiences both with product and customer service.

Their workman were extremely adaptable and accommodating to my needs. As we were going along, they were able to take adjustment to the basic drawings without any major problems. Once the job was completed, they added stairs and rails in a day that would better suit my needs. Also, something that I appreciated was that the same crew worked on the deck the entire time. The quality of the work was excellent, though they were the high price. The back of the home was really enhanced by their design and quality of workmanship.

The work was disappointing. The salesman promised various things that the builder refused to do. It took all spring and most of the summer to actually build the deck. I would be concerned about them actually building your deck before fall.

MILE HANLEY AND HIS 4 MAN CONSTRUCTION CREW DID A GREAT JOB. THEY ARRIVED ON TIME, WERE VERY POLITE, AND TOOK THE TIME TO EXPLAIN WHAT THEY WERE DOING. IN ADDITION, THEY LISTENED TO MY SUGGESTIONS, USED THEM IF THEY THOUGHT APPROPRIATE, OR OFFERED ALTERNATIVES THAT TURNED OUT EVEN BETTER THAN MY SUGGESTIONS. ONE EXAMPLE WAS THE PORCH ROOF ENDS. MY PLAN WAS TO LEAVE THEM OPEN AND JUST RUN A FINISH BOARD PARALLEL TO THE DECK. THEY DID THAT, BUT DIDN'T LIKE HOW IT LOOKED, SO THEY SEALED THE ENDS WITH CEDAR. THE LOOK IS SPECTACULAR. THEY THOROUGHLY CLEANED UP AFTER CONSTRUCTION WAS DONE - WHICH TOOK ABOUT TWO WEEKS. WE GET COMPLIMENTS ON THE PORCH DAILY, AND MANY ASK WHO DID IT FOR US. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING ADD OR REMODELING A DECK OR PORCH, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AFFORDABLE DECKS. I WAS NOT IMPRESSED THAT THE COMPANY DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO RETURN MY PHONE CALL. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY ARE OVERBOOKED, OR MY LOCATION IS NOT WITHIN THEIR AREA, OR IF THEY WEREN'T INTERESTED IN THE WORK.

I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS COMPANY. MR. VALPERGA WAS PROFESSIONAL AND EFFICIENT IN PRESENTING OPTIONS AND VARIOUS DESIGNS. PRICING WAS REASONABLE. WORKMEN ARRIVED WHEN EXPECTED AND WORK WAS COMPLETED WITHIN 10 DAYS. WHEN A CREW MEMBER CAME LATER TO INSTALL LIGHTING, HE EVEN FIXED UNINTENDED DAMAGE TO THE RAILING FROM A TOO-HEAVY BIRD FEEDER AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP IS EXCELLENT.

GOOD WORKERS, A LITTLE MESSY BUT THEY WERE WORKING IN THE RAIN SO I CAN EXCUSE SOME OF IT. THEY CAME ON SITE WORKED QUICKLY AND DID A GOOD JOB. THEY MATCHED THE CURRENT DECK WITH THE NEW STAIRS WELL AND THE STAIRS LOOK ORIGINAL TO THE DECK.

RESPONDED TO OUR REQUEST AND KEPT APPOINTMENT, BUT NEVER SUPPLIED BID.

CREWS TIMELY AND NEAT. JOB DONE ON SCHEDULE.

QUALITY OF JOB WAS EXCELLENT, BUT SERVICE FOR MAINTENANCE ISSUES WERE BAD AND CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS NOT GOOD. THE WORST PART ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE WAS THAT THEY GAVE US A DATE TO START AND COMPLETE AND IT TOOK 12 CALLS AND 12 ARGUMENTS TO GET THE JOB DONE. GET A CONTRACT WITH SPECIFIC DATES AND HOLD PAYMENT UNTIL JOB IS COMPLETE.
