We originally had this company patch (including the area to be cold-sealed) and double-seal the driveway 2 years ago. It was a very positive experience, to the point where we were handing out postcards to our neighbors when they were asking who did our work. What a difference 2 years makes. This time around, we contracted for the above services (copied directly from the contract), which was scheduled for 9/27. The workers showed up on the 27th and had no idea about the cold seal that we had requested. They told us that they had never heard of that, nor did they have anything with them to perform the work. Additionally they told us that they would be back the following day to complete the 2nd coat, which is not what we had agreed to (per the contract and verbally). When asked, at first they said that it would not be dry enough to apply the 2nd coat. When they were told that this exact same process had been done 2 years ago, then they said that we were too far out to come back and complete the work on the same day. We called the owner who told us that they could apply the sealant between the garage pad/driveway, and mentioned something about gator patch. He said he would notify the workers before they left. Fast-forward an hour, the workers left and we went to check and there was no sealant between the garage pad/driveway. So we called back to the office to then be told that the sealant would not work, so they weren't doing it. When pressed about how things changed between the signing of the contract (where the service was included), to the conversation an hour prior, the owner got upset. When the owner was reminded of our previous conversations regarding this issue, he now was saying that it couldn't be done, which then get's confusing. Was he misleading us to sign the contract OR was he misleading us to not avoid doing the work. At this point, the other issue of having the work done all on one day (like in the contract and previously done) came up. That's when I guess the owner got tired of the screaming match and passed us over to someone on the office staff. We were basically insulted by asking what was wrong with us (I guess because we were upset), told that's how it was going to be, and then told that we and quot;should have better things to do than to worry about our drivewayand quot;. When asked about how we can contract for a service that was not provided, we were told that was too bad. I am so shocked about not only how we were treated, but how we were misled. I don't know how someone can sign a contract to provide a service, and then basically ignore it and tell customers it was too bad. They never showed up to complete the work, which was a relief (nor did we pay for service we did not receive). They did a inadequate job, not even cleaning the driveway areas stained with oil (which is also included as part of the service in the contract), which is why within hours the old stains were showing through the sealcoat. Additionally, there were areas where the sealcoat was not applied evenly, so it looks gloppy in those areas. There was no attempt at customer service of any kind, not even to come out and look at the areas we were concerned about. Once there was a problem identified, it could have been peacefully resolved. Instead, the company got loud, we got loud, and things went downhill from there.
Description of Work: Estimate to seal coat driveway with (2) coats per specs. Hot seam all transitions and against house on left side. Use cold sealant between garage pad and driveway to ensure proper protection. (2) year warranty on this application. We can schedule on September 27th with a rain date of October 4th.

Response from Seal A Drive
As they stated we did a wonderful job 2 years ago and our reputation speaks for itself as stated in every other review. This customer clearly did not understand that we did use gator patch and sealant in the gap of the driveway to the garage. The contract said "use cold sealant between garage pad and driveway". We actually went the extra yard and used gator patch too. We said we would do it and it was done for no extra charge. We stand behind our work. We said we would come back the next morning and apply the second coat first thing. I have never had a customer completely fly off the handle because our schedule had changed and that we were going to return the next morning. Schedules do change sometimes - I was glad we could return the very next morning. The customer just kept screaming and repeating himself saying "but you said 2 coats could be put on the driveway the same day". I simply said again that sometime scheduling gets tight and we would accommodate him the very next morning. Plus the temperatures at this time of year do not always ensure the 1st coat will dry in time for the 2nd application. Seal-A-Drive will not compromise the integrity of the 1st coat application. Then he kept saying "but you said 2 coats could be put on the driveway the same day". The conversation went no where because he kept repeating the same thing over and over. We are a company that has been in business for 22 years and have never got a bad review. Our workmanship and customer service are typically our highest marks. This customer was never going to be pleased with anything we suggested. I truly hope he was able to get the 2nd coat applied with ease. We are not pleased that we lost a customer either. Sometimes you can't always please your clients, especially if there expectations are unrealistic or simply don't understand the process of the work requested.

I saw the owner when he stopped by to do measurements for the estimate and Frank seemed very pleasant and had a quote to me in a day or two. A quote for 1 seal coat and another for the 2 seal coats. He recommended 2 since my driveway had never been sealed before and it had been about 8 years since it was put in. I did a search on that before accepting the estimate and all references I found suggested 2 coats for a driveway that had never been sealed before. I also checked with a friend who had a similar size driveway sealed 2 years ago and the price for a single seal coat matched up to his price. I was scheduled to have my driveway sealed in about a week from when I was given a quote. The crew showed up on the day promised and seemed friendly and courteous. They edged and cleaned off my driveway. Scrubbing it down very thoroughly with brushes. They really did a quality job with the prep work cleaning up the driveway before sealing it. One coat of sealer was applied in the morning and then they came back in the evening to add a second coat. It was a clean professional job and I was happy with their work.
Description of Work: Seal-A-Drive sealed my driveway. Applying two coats after edging and cleaning the drive way. One in the morning and one in the evening

They did a great job and were very good. They also were very responsive and kept calling me since we changed it so many times because of the weather and different other things; so they were very flexible. I looked them up on Angie's List and I looked them up in Better Business Bureau. They got great ratings and a neighbor of ours also recommended them.
Description of Work: Seal A Drive seal coated our driveway and did a hot seal on a seam. We had an extension done on our driveway and they hot sealed that seam and seal coated the whole thing.

Very good job of application with no unevenness. No sloppiness at edges where the driveway was up against walls and other masonry. Excellent appearance. Were good on the phone in preparing for a bid. The bid came quickly. Scheduling was not at all difficult.

It went well. Frank came by and gave us an estimate. We didn't have to be home; we gave our address over the phone. After deciding on the best bids, we chose Seal A Drive and got on the schedule. There were a few rain delays, but completely understandable: it was August 2011, approx 14in of rain fell that month.
Description of Work: The side of our driveway was crumbling and we also needed the entire driveway resealed. We contacted a number of people but we liked Frank and his estimate was the best. His solution for patching the driveway on the side made the most sense to us as well. The patching, which involved saw cutting and replacing the damaged blacktop, was $395 and the subsequent seal coating of the entire driveway was $195. Total was $590. The jobs were done with about a week and a half in between.

They were doing our neighbor's driveway and that's how we found them. The contact's name was Frank. They put in fresh asphalt and that was the most expensive part of the work they did for me. I think it was the quality of their work which was good. I think that there are a lot of people out there who just do cheap sealing jobs where they just spray something on the top of you're driveway but this was a good enough coating. The quality of the materials used was higher than the other providers who sealed our driveway. They did much more extensive asphalt work for us which was well done. It was neatly and cleanly done. It was also efficiently done. I thought their price was really good. Their responsiveness was a bit of a problem. There was a little bit of back and forth between the two stages of the work and it took us a little bit of time to get back together after the second stage. That was as much on our side as it was on theirs. I would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: We used Seal A Drive. We last used their services in July of 2010. They redid our driveway. We had a great deal of cracking in the asphalt at the bottom of our driveway. So they had to take out all of the damaged asphalt and they had to slice out the bottom of the driveway. They removed all of the damaged layers and put in fresh asphalt which cost me $650. That had to cure for several weeks. They then came back and did a seal coat on the entire driveway which was $175.

The work was all neatly done. The workers were all very polite. There was a lag time - the concrete needed to cure for 3 weeks before being sealed, and that time extended a bit longer than we would have liked, which we understand is sometimes a function of the weather, but it all got done and we are very pleased.
Description of Work: They came out and assessed the damage on our cracked driveway quickly. They were able to remove the damaged area swiftly and replace that cleanly with new concrete. About a month later they returned to seal the whole drive. We have used a different provider who simply sprayed a kind of oily coating on the drive, but Seal A Drive used a thicker, higher quality coating.
