-The furniture moving crew consisted of several local young men who were clearly inexperienced and excepting for one, did not appear to have a positive attitude. The move took from 9:15 am to approximately 6:30 pm,which was far too long. We had moved several times locally in the past and the moving time never exceeded five hours. The crew left several minor damaged areas in the house, with one area of damage that could be considered severe. The driver of the truck was experienced (but not from the area) and appeared to know the process, but he was was clearly unimpressed with the local moving crew. The driver for the company that was contracted to transport the vehicle showed up the same day and towed the car away. At the destination, the crew that unloaded the furniture was very obviously trained in quality moving and performed quickly and without incident. They had a positive attitude and were enjoyable to interact with. The unloading process took only a matter of several hours. However, they were not able to assemble the table due to the fact that at the time of loading the furniture, the one crew member forgot to collect all the various nuts, screws and bolts, and just before he left he handed me the one bolt and told me that it was "left over." I had tossed it into one my of my bags and when the local moving company came to unload and assemble the furniture, in all the confusion I had forgotten which bag it was in, thereby requiring one of the local moving guys to come back after I had located the "left over" bolt. I had expected the arrival of the vehicle to be within a couple of days of the furniture. This did not occur. Instead, when the vehicle did not arrive I was compelled to call the company and ask where it was. The non-arrival of the vehicle was of concern due to the fact that at the time of the vehicle pickup, I had not received any sort of receipt or even a business card from the individual picking up the car (valued at $50k). The State College Parks United employee who answered my call replied that there had been a delay in the vehicle delivery process, but no one had contacted me to alert me of this development. When the car was finally on its way, I received calls a few times from the driver, whose first language was obviously not English, keeping me up to date as to his progress, which I really appreciated. He was professional and courteous, but with the language barrier, those conversations left something to be desired. When I received a call at 9 pm one night, the transport driver said he would be at the end of my street shortly. I met him as he drove the vehicle to my driveway and he seemed very professional and pleasant. However, when he requested that I sign the papers indicating that the vehicle was in the same condition it was when it was picked up, I did not feel at ease signing it, since it was completely dark at that hour of the night. I did sign the papers, against my better judgement, signing by the faint light of a distant streetlight. In the light of day, the vehicle appeared to be in the same condition as it was when it was picked up, but it was filthy. (I had had the vehicle professionally cleaned only a couple of days before it was picked up for transport.) After unpacking the furniture, I see numerous places where there are nicks, scratches and scrapes. After having moved numerous times locally within the State College area, I was used to seeing minor damage, but nothing to compare with what I've observed after this move. The State College area moving crew performance was unacceptable. The destination moving crew performance was A++!
