Description of Work: My large Scag walk behind mower started acting up in late September and obviously needed to be repaired. I took the mower to Passmore for an estimate on September 28th and dropped it off. I was promised an estimate by the end of the next day (9/29). I called in late on 9/29 and was told I was next up for 9/30. I called in on 9/30 and was then told I was next up for 10/3 (Passmore Service does not work on weekends). I recieved a call late on 10/3 from the Passmore Sevice Manager. He told me that my Scag had blown the engine, had 0 (zero) compression and it needed to be replaced. The cost estimate was between $1650 and $1700 and would take days to be completed. I am not an engine expert, however, I knew the engine was not "blown". Why? Because the mower started without any oil smoke or burn smell. Also, for the engine to start it had to have compression... I was not satisfied with the work (and cost) estimate. I went in and picked up the mower to take it to the location where it was initially purchased. When I got to Passmore they wanted to charge me an inspection fee of almost $50. I refused to pay on the grounds that it was not mentioned to me prior to dropping off the mower. A manger got involved, tried to reason with me... but signed off on letting me take the mower without paying an inspection fee. I then took the mower to Hensel's Mower Service (610-857-3816) in Parkesburg, Pa. (just west of Coatesville). In 1 day Matt Hensel got back to me with a quote!!! The issue was that the "govenor" had to be replaced. His estimate to me was for approximately $450, depending on what else needed to be done once the govenor piece was pulled out & inspected. I picked up the Scag on 10/7. The total cost for the re[pair was $384. Period. The mower runs fine and I saved $1300. Passmore treated me like they were the only game in town and I will never be doing business with that company again. Thanks! Rudy Smith

Description of Work: I had taken a Stihl weed trimmer in to Passmore to have it serviced since it was 8 years old and had not been used in 2 years. The service tech told me that if repairs ran over $85 they would call me to see if I wanted the work done. Repair would have cost me $100 so I decided to purchase a new weed trimmer. I intended to stick with the Stihl brand since that is what I had and really don't know much about lawn equipment (I had inherited this weed trimmer). The salesman showed me several models then suggested a different brand that would be just as good for my needs and actually cost me less money.
