After several weeks of calling for an estimate for my driveway and parking pad , Charlie finally came out on 4/17/23. Great estimate, friendly, lots of good service promised. Contract signed and sent in. I was told I world get a phone call the third week in May so I could move trailers and camper out of the way. No call ever came. It is now the second week in June, still no call. I have placed 10 calls to a business phone and left messages each time. I have even called a "cell phone" number and left messages, no return calls. My concern was to get an estimated time frame when the work would be done as I travel and needed to move vehicles around. NO RETURN CALLS at all. If they don't want to do a job, at least have the courtesy and professionalism to make a 2 minute return call to a potential customer. Not happy at all and would not recommend them

Everything went great and they did a great job. Their men were very nice and were professional. They in stalled the plastic pipe like I wanted and tamped the 2A modified stone down. Rolled everything down before paving. The driveway looks great and did a little extra in front of my mailbox for me. Cleaned up pretty well. Tom Hick was very nice!

It’s looks great. They were here at the time they stated. Started right away and kept at it until it was done. They checked with me every step of the way to make sure it was to my liking. I am very happy with the results. My driveway is now back to its original size it was 30 years ago. Thank you Hicks.

We have an extremely long & steep winding driveway that hadn't been sealed for quite a while. To say that Hicks Paving did a good job for us would've be an understatement -- everything about their customer communication and actual workmanship was truly outstanding! When we asked for an estimate, I heard from Charlie Hicks within a few days. We then had to wait for a few weeks due to unusually wet weather. When we finally encountered a semi-dry spell, they immediately gave us a date and time -- and they then arrived exactly when they said they would. Almost to the minute. How often does that happen when you hire a contractor? Hardly ever. Their 3-man crew then carefully prepped the driveway. Blew off all leaves and other debris. Edged a few areas where mulch and grass had encroached. Then sprayed the entire driveway, several turn-around areas, and even the narrow strip of asphalt in front of our mailbox, with a heavy coat of sealcoating oil. We have several stone walls adjacent to our driveway, and they were extremely careful to not get any of the sealcoating on any of our stonework -- nor on any of concrete strips where our garages met our driveway. There was no need for any cleanup after they were done. About 2 days later everything was dry to the touch, and it looked like we had just installed a "brand new" driveway. Yeah, Hicks Paving's sealcoating job actually looked that good! We've lived in this house for about twenty-five years, and over that time we've had our driveway sealcoated at least 6 times. But the last job by Hicks Paving was, by far, the best sealcoating job that we've ever encountered -- and they were also a pleasure to work with.

In the course of preparing my driveway the company was securing other work in the neighborhood. The were able to get a driveway across from my home. They started that driveway before mine was finished. Because of that the company ran out of product and a portion of my driveway had to be patched. It looks patched and sloppy. Mud marks and workers foot prints are evident throughout the driveway and are embedded in the driveway. Needless to say I am very dissatisfied with their work.

Tom and his team were very professional during the initial meeting and during the paving work. I appreciate them clearing the fill they removed to level the driveway...not much remained when they finished the work except a smooth driveway. We are very happy with the result. They only critical feedback is the number of calls it took to schedule a meeting, which I found from other paving contractors, as well. I fully understood it was the end of the season and I'm sure all were very busy. In the end, we are very excited for our new driveway and would use Hick's Paving in the future.

1. It took a day or so for them to return my call. 2. It took a few days until someone came to give me an estimate. (I called ~9 contractors and I managed to get a total of three quotes ranging from $12,900 to $17,500) 3. I was told I had received a favorable price because there was another sizable job close by and they would try to couple my job with the other one (in regards to timing). Their price was the lowest. 4.The son (Charlie) was the person who showed up to give me the quote. I'll admit, he was very nice, but he seemed like he was selling it a bit and since he was on the younger side, I was a little apprehensive. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about, but contractors saying one thing and doing something ?less? when it came time to do the actual work have burned me in the past. I had some fear that might happen in this case, as well. (it sounded a little too good) 5. I selected them to do the work. When I tried to get in contact with them to discus scheduling, it took a couple calls. The desire to couple my job with another job didn't quite work out as planned, not surprisingly. Some circumstances are out of their control... After a week of bad weather, they showed up 1.5 weeks later than originally planned. (again, under the circumstances, I didn't think that was bad.) 6.The night before the work was to be performed, Charlie showed up to discuss my expectations/details for the scope of work. The project was a little tricky since the parking area in front of the garage slopes towards the garage and parts of the driveway had a bad pitch that needed to be fixed. 7. On the day of the work, a large crew showed up with a surprising amount of relatively new equipment. They were very eager to make sure our needs were met and that we would be happy with the outcome. Again, in the past other contractors not delivering on their promises have disappointed me. Being the low bidder, I feared they would skimp on the stone, skimp on the asphalt and/or not do a good job with the grading. I was more than pleasantly surprised. They spent a significant amount of time making sure the grading was perfect so the water would drain away from my garage, and in one section of the driveway they had to add 8-12 inches to get the pitch just right. (my property is all on a slope) They laid down fresh stone and then paved the driveway with a generous 3" of asphalt. I could not be happier with the quality of work they performed! They had a hard working, friendly crew. I would definitely hire them again!
Description of Work: Paved 550' residential stone driveway. Regraded 35' x 50' parking area to drain water away from the garage. Regraded the driveway (500'). The driveway had to be re-pitched on one side by as much as 8-12". They laid fresh stone, then paved the driveway and parking area with 3" of asphalt. They also paved over 45' of the original driveway (only the first 45' were paved when the house was built in 2008). 7500 ft2

In three words: dishonest, manipulative, unreliable. The details: Tom Hicks gave me an estimate for a residential driveway paving in August, 2015. For five weeks I tried to get a contract so that he could begin the work before October. I made arrangements with him NINE times to come up with a contract ? each and every time he broke the appointment and provided a lame excuse ? ?shorthanded today?, ?not in the area?, ?how about next Monday??, etc., etc. Well, on that ?next Monday? I asked my wife to leave work early so that she could be home to sign the contract Tom promised to deliver. Guess what? ? HE NEVER SHOWED, and worse, HE NEVER CALLED! The next day I called his office and spoke to his wife ? she told me she would call him right away and get back to me within 15 minutes. Guess what? ? SHE NEVER DID! The whole operation is a dog and pony show, nothing but smoke and mirrors. These guys are your typical ?I PROMISE to do the work, BUT NEVER WILL? contractors. Needless to say, I?d advise any who?s looking for an honest and reliable driveway contractor to look elsewhere! Run, don?t walk, away from Tom Hicks!!!

After receiving an estimate and indicating that I wanted them to do the job, I was told that I needed to sign a contract for the work to be done. I tried on three separate occasions to have the estimator meet me at my home to review and sign it. In each case he said "I will call you later today and we'll set up a time for me to come by." He never called back and never showed up. This went on for about about 10 days. During the last call he said "I will come over today and get it signed." Again, he never showed and never called me back. In every phone conversation I had to remind him of who I was and where I lived and what the job entailed - acted as if he'd never been to my home or spoken with me before.

Description of Work: My husband call Hicks Paving last Friday and was told Mr. Hicks would be here on Monday to check out the job (repaving driveway) and give us an estimate. He never showed up. We called again on Tuesday and left a message. Today is Thursday and we've not gotten a response from Hicks. What I don't understand is, if he's too busy for a job, why not say so in the beginning. We wasted an entire afternoon waiting for him to come. This is not a good way to do business or to treat possible customers.

Description of Work: Tried to engage hicks for a large driveway job. After numerous calls and rescheduling tom hicks finally came out to so estimate. My husband and I received several estimates to get our large driveway paved. We agreed on Hicks Paving for the job as the price was extremely fair and reasonable and we trusted they would do a good job. Tom was responsive from the very beginning. He always answered our calls or promptly returned them. This is one professional Outfit and we were highly impressed with the crew and the equipment. I especially like that it is a family run business and they all "get their hands dirty". Tom and his crew were incredibly professional, helpful, and punctual and most importantly, the work is beautiful. I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone.

We had a pretty big residential job for Hicks. Our property had a mud pit for a "driveway". And I mean about 120x 12 feet or more of 8" deep, awful, foul mud that we couldn't even park in/on anymore. We called Hicks for a free estimate (having already received 2 estimates from other well-rated Angie's list paving companies). Charlie Hicks came out the next day (a Saturday) to look over our property. Their estimate was $500-1000- less than the other companies. They were very friendly and prompt and professional. They're a great family business. They ended up having an opening for that very next Monday (only a few days after I contacted them). They arrived right when they said they would and finished the WHOLE job in ONE day. They scraped off and hauled away a good 8+ inches deep of mud, grass, soil, and stones. . .then laid down the new crushed stone driveway and parking pads. They rolled it flat and even curved out the edges (which required a little more stone). It was easy to see they pride themselves in doing a beautiful job. I was worried that maybe more of our property would become a mud pit during the process, but they left my property in better shape then when they started. I couldn't possibly be more pleased with the people I dealt with or the job they did. I would recommend them 100% to anyone looking for a big or small job.

I was placed on the list and due to the nature of there business, communication was slow but not unexpected due to the volume of the work especially in the paving season. They never forgot me and when they were in my area came over and did a spectacular professional top noch job. They were clean and neat in demolition and the finished product was amazing and race car track worthy. They resloped the driveway, added additional material to the sides and worked around a tree, the house foundation and retaining wall. It was flawless especially around the wall and sidewalk. It exceeded my expectation in many ways, its was a amazing job and I would highly recommend to other homeownes and buisnesses. Tom Hicks the owner was involved in the entiie process and is a gentlemen and professional paver. His experience and knowledge in this area is second to none as he explained to my a novice all about this process. He did not make me feel uneducated or silly for not understanding this process or its maintenance. I felt as a partner in the construction project although my contribution was writing a check. I am not a friend or a family member to Mr. Hicks and this was the first interaction we ever had but I can tell you I would not get any paving work done in the future without having Hick's on my team. If you use Angie's list for any recommendation or review I can attest to my experience with this firm. He doesn't pay for reviews as some other may or buy advertising to put him on the top of the list but if reviews matter, take mine to heart. If you live in the Lehigh Valley Area you can swing by my place and see the work preformed, and I truly hope this earns him more business as his work deserves his continued success.

.In October of 2014 a man knocked on my door to seal my driveway- He did and the price was cheap but the driveway still looked good????? Little did I know he was what they call a "gypsy"-and when we had the first rain the driveway seem slick ?? When we had a little snow 3-5 inches and we went to shovel '"LOOK Out" we had a very slippery driveway / skating rink! From that point on the driveway just seem to get more slick. I later to came to find out the sealer was poor quality cut with gasoline and applied improperly . So I called different paving contractors ;most seem very indifferent or did not wish to be bothered or would not even give any help or information to help my problem. Some never called back ,others hung up [business must be good ] ! I finally came to Hicks Paving-who was very sympathetic and understanding to my problem as far as someone slipping and falling and suing us. Charlie Hicks gave me 3 options which would help remedy my situation. I chose what would be the more expensive but in the long run a more practical move. He promised to do the work before the weekend and bad weather set in-saying he would call and give me a time and date. Good to his word, he called and set me up for the next day and time.. He and his crew arrived on time ,did the job better then I had hoped and cleaned up as if they were never there . I would highly recommend Hicks Paving for price .service and workmanship. Everything about our job was difficult. And I do mean everything. We had 10,000+ sq. ft. of residential driveway and turnaround areas to replace and/or re-surface. Most of our 20-year old driveway is quite steep and winds down the side of a small mountain. About half of our driveway was still in good condition; several sections were developing large spider-web crack profiles; a few sections were turning into rubble; and we had depressions and bumps everywhere from many years of settling. For lesser-skilled paving companies, this job would have been a complete nightmare. Hicks Paving is a family business, that's been run by 3 generations of their family. They had the experience needed for this job. Hicks Paving: laser-measured our relatively level areas to assure proper water drainage; completely re-stoned and replaced several sections; retained sizable sections that were still solid (thus saving us a ton of money); milled a 30 foot long 12and quot; wide strip in one section to repair a long, deep crack; dug out a 10 foot by 30 foot section and filled it with stone and a rough grade of asphalt; repaired 2 berms and added 2 more new ones; repaired 2 drainage grate areas; milled and filled in an overly deep swale at the bottom of the driveway; did a precision leveling course of thin asphalt over almost the entire driveway; and they then applied, over the entire driveway, a heavy tack coat followed by a resurfacing coat of 2 to 3 inches (after rolling) of 9.5mm grade asphalt. Upon completion, the vast majority of our driveway now had asphalt 3 to 5 inches thick -- and Hicks Paving gave us a 2-year warranty covering all of their work. Before hiring Hicks Paving, I received estimates from several paving companies. Hicks wasn't the cheapest nor were they the most expensive. But I hired them because I thought they would deliver the best quality work and the best value for the money spent. And that's exactly what we received. Overall, we found Hicks Paving to be a pleasure to work with; extremely professional and competent; they were obsessively focused on customer satisfaction; they took great pride in their workmanship; their paving equipment was state-of-the-art; and they finished the job in the time-frame promised and at the exact price they quoted us. They did an absolutely incredible job on our very challenging driveway!

Charlie, the owner's son, is professional, knowledgeable and takes the time to answer questions, explaining the process in detail. If you're not repaving asphalt but rather starting from scratch--such as replacing a concrete driveway, one, 3 inch lift is adequate. Save several hundred dollars by skipping binder coat, unless paving over old asphalt! When done correctly, driveway should last 30 years! Sealing every 2-3 years may not be necessary, unless minor cracks appear and are nipped in the bud. While the contract recommends sealing, (more business), Charlie did not think it would ever be necessary. Time will tell!
Description of Work: Roughly 1000 square feet of old, cracked concrete driveway replaced with 3" lift Superpave Asphalt. Team of 6 guys removed all old concrete in about 2 hours, smoothed over a dump truck full of stone and dirt, then compacted and laid new asphalt (3 inches) the following morning in another 2 hours. Major operation of heavy machinery and equipment. Job completed fast, with attention to detail.

He was demeaning to me, taking advantage of me for being a woman, thought he could BS me.
Description of Work: Came and did 5500 square foot drive way with pad in front of garage, installed 2 inches of fine blacktop wrap and tamped all edges. After first winter edges showed cracks and also big cracks in front of garage door. Initially came out and blamed me for the cracks on the edges were caused by plow trucks, they cold sealed edge cracks but never came back to seal the crack in front of the garage door. When I called the second time about the large crack in front of the garage door he was very belligerent to me over the phone and refused to come back, even though the work was supposedly still under warranty.
