Dan and his crew where professional, courteous, on time. He said the job would take 2 to 2 1/2 days. The work was completed in 2 1/2 days. He came to my home, we discussed the problem we were having. Dan assessed the situation. Told me what he was going to do, gave me a price, we set a date, job is done and we are very pleased. We had three landscapers from Angie's list give us estimates. Dan knew what he was talking about and gave us a fare price.

Dan and his crew did all that they said they would - project looks great!! We did have a problem with the boundary on one end of the rain garden not being high enough, and Dan came back out and repaired it - now it holds water. We've got a few plants that didn't make it through the summer, but most are doing well. We would definitely consider using EcoGardens again.

I did not use this service provider.
Description of Work: I called the provider and requested a quote to have four inches of soil removed from my back yard and backfilled with new soil. I estimated my back yard sq footage to be 150 sq feet which equates to $66 per sq ft. I was way off with my sq estimate, the actual sq footage is 1035 sq ft. The estimate I received from EcoGardens, LLC was $10,000 which is ridiculous for 150sq ft. Dan was short and his estimate was extremely high. I would not use EcoGardens, LLC as I felt they were unprofessional and short.

Response from EcoLandscapes
I spoke with this customer over the phone, and I am sorry he was not happy with my demeanor. I always try to be friendly and courteous, and I am sorry that I came off "short". Regarding the estimate, I think there was definitely some confusion over the phone about what the job entailed, the square footage, and consequently the verbal estimate I gave appears to have been inaccurate.

We contacted EcoGardens back in September 2012, and Dan came out promptly to listen to what we wanted our backyard space to be. Our backyard was lovingly called "the wasteland", and so we wanted a place where we could have a private retreat. Dan took less than a week to draw up the backyard space and walk us through his recommended plant selections. It all looked great. Less than 3 weeks, Dan and his crew installed everything in our backyard. We had 9 yards of top soil that they put down over our grass in our front yard, which helped with establishing better grass. Came up great in the fall, and looks great this spring. We had a new cobblestone, round paver system put in our back yard, fits nicely for two Adirondack chairs and table. They had to level the yard a bit to get it to work with the grading of the backyard, and did a great job. They prepared the backyard for all the new perennials and bushes, installing over 13 different types of perennials and bushes --- overall, about 40 different plants. Dan selected these items so that we would have a continual burst of color throughout spring, summer and fall --- just great. Everything survived the fall planting, the winter, and we have been enjoying the space this spring, excited to watch how everything is growing in. During the initial planting, Dan also personally stopped by our house, made sure a sprinkler system was up and running adequately, and then stopped over again in the spring to see if anything needed tending to. I think the pricing was absolutely fair for the value we received. We have been enjoying our new space this spring / summer, which has turned our wasteland of a backyard to our new oasis. We absolutely love it!
Description of Work: EcoGardens put down 9 yards of top soil on our lawn, designed a new landscape layout for our backyard, installed a circular paver system for the backyard, planted, mulched all new perennials.

It went very well. Dan prepared a design using photographs of our property and overlays of the proposed plantings that made it very easy to visualize what he was planning. He was very easy to deal with and did a great job of preparing a design that was consistent with what we wanted. He and his crew came when they promised and working quickly to get the job done within the time frame promised. They worked very neatly and were all very professional. We got started very late in the year (our fault not his) and so it was difficult to fully see the plantings as they were envisioned in the design. Dan return in the spring to check on status and then to tweaked things a bit as the new plantings came up and mixed with the existing plantings. A few plants did not come in and he replaced them without question. We've received many compliments on his work. I would hire his firm again without hesitation.
Description of Work: Prepared design and installed landscaping for most of the front (both sides) of large corner property. Work involved new plantings, relocating or removing some existing plantings, triming certain shrubs and recutting contour of beds.

Dan was professional and punctual. Everything went on schedule with the exception of rain delays. Very happy with outcome!
Description of Work: Our yard was a disaster. They tore down a wisteria covered pergola that was rotting, removed old flagstones from beneath it and made a new patio in different location, removed several old woody shrubs and rhododendrons, planted a full perennial bed to one side of the yard and along backyard line, mulched everything, reseeded lawnplus a lot more!

Dan's team came promptly and did their work. They are not the brightest crew - i.e., if we had question, none of them - not even the crew leader - seemed to have the answer. Always referred back to Dan. But they completed the work in the time they said they would and left property tidy and in good shape.
Description of Work: Our lawn had to be totally leveled and reseeded. it was nothing but weeds. Dan came and gave us a prompt estimate, indicated that he was going to us only natural products - no chemicals. He roto-tilled the lawn, brought in mushroom soil and leveled it out and then seeded. He left clear instructions about watering and care and came back to check on progress. Following his instructions the lawn has come in. As we have had questions along the way we have been able to call or email him and he has been extremely responsive. He will come back in fall to reseed. This is a really nice young man who has a growing company. We feel very comfortable highly recommending him.

Dan come to our home on a Sunday for the estimate, which was very convenient for two people who work full time. He gave his estimate on the spot, which was also very nice. His quote was the cheapest one we received, by far. He was able to do the work on our yard within a few weeks, and the job only took two days to complete. His crew removed a great deal of nasty debris in the back corner of our yard, which had been neglected for years by the previous owner of our house. They planted new bushes and shrubs, and seeded the rest of the area. He also set up the watering system, and gave me detailed instructions on how and when to water the new plants. He came back two weeks later to apply more grass seed to the area, per our contract. Overall it was a great experience, and I would certainly use the company again.
Description of Work: Cleared out debris in the back corner of our yard where some pine trees had once stood. Planted to bushes and scrubs along the perimeter of our yard, and seeded the rest of the area.

Nearly a year ago we moved into an older home in which the previous owner had virtually cleared the lot of all but two Dogwood trees prior to selling the home. We are on a corner lot facing a public high school and needed recommendations for privacy screening that didn't include a solid wall of Evergreens and would accentuate an existing picket fence. Dan met with us on a Saturday morning (very convenient) and discussed our vision, asking excellent questions to determine our expectations, plant preferences (likes and dislikes), concerns, etc. We wanted to incorporate some of our favorite plants from our previous homes in coastal Maine, Florida and North Carolina. Despite the variation in temperature and climate, Dan was receptive to this idea and came back a week later with a plan that exceeded our expectations at a price that was, in our opinion, reasonable. We had a set budget and he was more than willing to break down the costs so that we could prioritize and choose the projects that best fit within our limit. Installation week went very well and his crew was polite, efficient and without complaint during some pretty cold temperatures! We were a bit concerned with installing plants during the cooler temperatures, but they have flourished with the warming weather and are growing at a fast clip. Such a transformation of this yard! In the time since, Dan has stopped by to follow up and replaced a three plants that were not growing (to be expected). In addition, he transplanted some unexpected Hostas that had been dormant during design and installation but popped up a few weeks ago. We first chose EcoGarden for their emphasis on organic gardens and native plantings; we wanted a natural looking landscape that would appear, in time, as though it were part of the original lot plan and flourish without a great deal of chemicals and care. We would return for the design vision and excellent customer service. I would recommend EcoGarden without hesitation.

The Estimate: When Dan came out for an estimate, he told me that I could probably handle seeding/fertilizing my small front and back yards by myself. But he gave me a price if I wanted him to do it anyway. His price for putting down gravel on the side yard was lower than an estimate I had gotten previously, so I hired him for both jobs. He also happily answered my numerous novice lawn/yard questions. The Work: Dan came and seeded/fertilized the front and back yards on the agreed upon date. The day before the gravel work was scheduled Dan e-mailed to let me know that his workers would be arriving late the next day due to another job. I appreciated the heads-up. The day after the majority of the gravel was installed Dan came by himself to finish up the side yard. In the contract I signed with him, it said that the company would put down more seed if the lawn was still patchy/bare after 2 weeks of watering for 15 minutes each day. I diligently watered the lawn for the 2 weeks and noticed some bare patches but wasn't sure if it warranted a callback for more seed. Well, Dan took the initiative and added more seed to my lawn after he had finished up the gravel work on the side yard. And finally, he answered still more of my lawn/yard questions. I was very happy with his service and am a very satisfied customer. I would definitely hire him again for future landscape jobs.
Description of Work: His company pulled weeds and laid down landscape fabric and stone/gravel along my narrow side yard. He was spread grass seed and fertilizer on my front and back yards.

I am sorry the customer was unhappy with how the work was executed. We arrived when we said we would, and completed the job on the day we said we would. When the job was completed, I walked around the property with the customer, and she communicated to me she was happy with the work. On the first day of the job, one of my employees, who has worked with me for a number of years, was not able to work up to par for legitimate reasons he explained to me. This is not the customer's problem, so I apologized to her, brought in someone else the second day, and worked on the project myself to ensure that it was done properly and on time.

It was a great experience dealing with a professional who understands customer service.
Description of Work: Dan did an excellent job designing and planting for us this Spring. His landscaping vision is remarkable. I was extremely impressed with his professionalism. Dan knows his plants and understands the need to be eco friendly. He planted some rosemary and lavender plants near the front entry way that will smell so nice and welcoming. I wanted an organic vegetable garden on the side of the house and he made cedar boxes and filled them with organic soil. I am excited about planting tomatoes soon! We only had one issue with the lavender plants. They were dormant when Dan planted them, and this spring they would not come up. I emailed Dan on a Sunday morning. He drove to the house later that afternoon and saw the dead plants. He then emailed me that he was to order more plants from the nursery to replace the dead ones. He was just here, 3 days later, replacing those lavender plants. I am anxious to see everything grow and bloom. I know it is going to be gorgeous! Thanks, Dan!

Dan came out on a Sunday which was very convienent since we both work all week, we told him what we had in mind and what to goals were. He returned a week later with a computerized plan for us to see, also on a weekend. He took into consideration things I said I liked as well as things I did not like. The plan was great especially since it could be broken down to 3 phases so that we could implement the phases as our budget will allow. We chose 2 phases to start. They were very accommodating for the start date, showed up with a crew of 4 and got right to work, work was done in 3 days, they left us with instructions on how to care for the new planting and set up a watering system as well. When I had a question several weeks later I emailed Dan and he got right back to me. Our new drainage system and planting survived the hurricane :) The follow up and customer service was well worth it, I would definietly use them again and would reccommend them as well
Description of Work: We called Dan to : mange our backyard water drainage issue remove a concrete path put steps in along a hill landscape along the base of the house creating a visual path from the driveway to the back deck steps. plant crate myrtles to block view of neighbors All was accomplished! Everything went pretty good. Everytime that had an issue, they would let us know and get our thoughts on how we wanted to handle things.
Description of Work: 3 workers came out and installed 8x8 paver patio and got rid all the shrubs, plants, stones in a small sloped section of the front lawn area (that was the hardest part b/c everything was there for years from the previous owner). It took them longer than expected. We wanted that area to be grass only so they put down grass seed. The grass grew in okay over time and the paver patio could have been done a litte better but it still looks nice. They definitley worked hard for 3 days! They originally expected it only to take 2 but they had now problem spending an extra day getting the job done.

Went over fantastically. As described above.
Description of Work: They were great. Very professional. Took care of everything we wanted. Very quick and thorough. They uprooted our backyard "jungle," tore it all out, and planted grass seed. Transplanted a couple of plants. We later got instructions on how to care for our lawn and extra seed to fill in the blanks. Dan and his people were thoroughly knowledgeable and professional. They had the job done in record time, for a reasonable price. Very satisfied with our experience. I will recommend them to anyone who requires services of this nature.

I contacted Dan and he promptly returned my call. He came out to the house and gave me a free estimate. I was looking for a relatively fast growing evergreen privacy screen for an area next to a busy road. I wanted something with dimension and year round interest. I did not want a line straight line of arborvitae. It seemed like a difficult project. The area is quite shady and under multiple large trees with a very dense root system. Dan came out, measured the space, took pictures, and immediately had ideas for the project. He gave me an estimate on the spot which was true to the final cost. A couple of weeks later he returned with the plan and estimate. He gave us a picture of what the final project would look like, digitally superimposed on a photo of our property, and it looked just like the final project. We set up a date. Dan and his team arrived on schedule and completed the project in 2 days. Overall I'm very pleased with the whole experience. Dan was prompt, professional, and knowledgeable. He had a team of four men who worked round the clock through very dense roots, dry soil, and 100 degree heat. The guys did a great job. Would recommend them to anybody and I definitely plan on using them in the future.

Dan came promptly when we called for a quote, and had a very clear idea of what would need to be done. He advised us on the specifics of the grading work, and also helped us to choose plantings for a couple spots that needed attention. He did the work as planned -- was actually ahead of schedule. He took the initiative to set up soaker hoses and sprinklers on a timer system which really helped the new bushes and grass take off. He came back regularly, consulted with us several times by phone and email, and when the two new trees died, he replaced them at no cost. Its not clear why they died -- maybe just bad luck. The important thing was that we were always confident that he would keep in touch and make sure that everything thrived. Dan is really great at communicating. He worked us to select native plants - even suggested some for us to add on our own. With the grading work, his attitude was to set up a system where rainwater would soak into the ground rather than running off into storm sewers. We did not get multiple quotes, so so can't be sure, but suspect that we could have found someone cheaper. But we felt good about working with Dan, particularly with respect to environmental considerations. Communication and follow through were also first rate. All-in-all, an outstanding experience. Would definitely work with Dan again.

From my first phone call to Daniel Cleary to the completion of the project, I was very impressed and pleased with every aspect of this company and the final product. Dan came out immediately and listened to what I wanted. He made suggestions on how best to achieve my goal. He took pictures of the property and came back within a week with a full plan to landscape my yard. He created a site plan using the photos he had taken - he offered me some options for the plants. We made some minor adjustments to the plan and then I approved. When the job was done, the plantings were all planted exactly as shown on his photo site plan that he had shown for my approval. He has two assistants who did most of the planting, but Dan was on site several times during the day to supervise the project. He kept a watch on every aspect of the project. His assistants were very polite and good workers. Dan provided me with a soaker hose system to make sure that new plantings are well- watered as the season progresses. He is very professional, has good knowledge of native plants, and gave a very good price for all of the new shrubs, trees and work that was done. ..I have already recommended him to friends....And, you will love his new little dog that waits for him in the truck and looks out the window at his every move!
Description of Work: The entire job consisted of : creating a new landscape design for my backyard, creating new beds with mulching, providing and planting 13 new native shrubs, a holly tree, a dogwood tree, 9 new perennials, transplanting 12 clumps of existing day lilies. The new trees are 6-7ft tall and the shrubs are a good size.

Very pleased with EcoSystems. It was a big job, and one I had been anxious to have done for some time, but never quite sure how it might be done. (I'm no gardener, let alone a landscaper.) Dan came out for an initial consultation in mid-February and picked up quickly that I had some general ideas (more streamlined beds, consistent with the neighborhood, with some nice color against the white siding and stone of my house) but was otherwise wishing for specific guidance. He also provided a general ballpark sense of what the pricing would be, which I always appreciate. A week or so later he came back with specific plant ideas, a layout print and photo of what everything would look like, a timetable of when the work would be done, and the exact pricing. As everything was very agreeable, I committed to the work. A week or so later, I had some second thoughts about one of the plants, and although I felt a little foolish asking, Dan was back almost immediately with a full email response of alternatives, including photos. Thought about that for a day, picked one of them, Dan told me it would be no problem. Easy! At the very end of the month, Dan's crew came by. Very pleasant guys: hard-working and courteous. Then, as scheduled, everything new was planted, mulched, etc. on 15MAR when the stock arrived at the nursery. Now I just keep everything properly watered, wait for Mother Nature to do her work this Spring, and be prepared for one of the nicest landscapes in the neighborhood. Dan emphasized he would always be a phone call away for any questions or concerns. All in all, an exceptionally good experience with a solid professional crew.
Description of Work: Removed several very large beds of Pachysandra with many Azaleas and other shrubs. Retained a couple of the evergreen shrubs, but mostly replaced everything with far more streamlined beds of (a single) Amelanchier, (a single) hydrangea quercifolia, (multiple) variegated red twig dogwoods, (multiple) Itea virginica, (multiple) blue star juniper, (multiple) gold mop false cypress. The remainder (of the area previously covered) was grass seeded. Additionally, with the new beds, ground cover was installed (to prevent the Pachysandra, or anything other than the new plants, from coming back), fresh mulch laid down of this cover, and a watering system (dripping hoses and a timer) installed.

Dan came by on time to provide an estimate. We had these evergreen shrubs that had outgrown the area right in front of our house, trapping leaves and even impeding the way to our front door. We wanted to make this area look better immediately, without taking the time to replant. The problem was that if you cut back to much, you would end up with just brown bush. After discussing the situation with him, he gave us an idea of where to trim and how much, and we agreed the price. He came the next week, as scheduled and did the job. We took a look while he was finishing up and he was responsive to our requests to trim a little more in a few places, but he provided some caution where he thought we would trim too much. He also cleaned out the leaves and removed a misc plant that didn’t really belong anymore. He and his partner took a little less than 2 hours. They were pleasant and professional to work with. We will be interested to work with them on slightly bigger projects in the Spring.
