Everything went as planned. The materials were excellent and the workmanship was excellent. The steps which were sanded was done well and matched the hardwood floors. Overall, I was happy with everything that was done.
Description of Work: Removed carpeting and replaced it with hardwood. The steps were sanded to match the hardwood.

Description of Work: Had them remove ceramic tile and marble tile in kitchen/entry and install hardwood in the entire first floor of home. The work took a little longer than estimated due to removal work , but excellent quality, also installed molding around floors, removed rugs, and stained stairway. He answered our questions during installation, changed out some boards at our request - very easy to work.

The person who did the estimate (Jay) and owned the business did not show up during the work. Two characters who looked clueless showed up. One in particular looked like he was short on sleep and did not want to be there. Couldn't figure out where to hook up their sander - at one point, tried to insist that they needed to pull off the front off my fuse box in basement. (That did not happen...) Did a half-a****d job of hanging plastic before starting the sanding, and ended up blowing dirt into every room of the house. Polyed the floor before removing the shoe moldings and baseboards (despite being asked not to do this), and then made numerous dents/smashed a large hole in the wall trying to pry them off with a crowbar. Tried to stuff paper in the hole and call it a repair. Mounted baseboards of two different colors. Didn't fill in the nail holes and sand before polying the baseboards and shoe moldings. Mounted the crown molding as though it was casing (i.e. flat against the wall). Left blotches and globs of poly on various parts of the living room floor. The one who set up a table saw in my front yard smoked like a chimney and threw his cigarette butts all over my yard. I foolishly wrote out a check when they said they were done because I wanted them out of my house. When I had someone come over to check out the work, and I found out how bad it was, I made 6 calls to the business number for Jay's Hardwood and Ceramics over a period of 3 days. No one called back. I called the bank and was fortunately able to stop payment on the check. Then I called Jay's number and left a message that payment had been stopped on the check. Surprise! I got a call back from Jay himself in less than 15 minutes. He was insistent on coming out to discuss problems in the work sooner than it was convenient for us, but we accommodated. Jay attempted to bulls*** his way out everything but, when we held firm, he reluctantly agreed to redo some of the work. (We had to pay someone else to clean up the rest.) Jay was not cooperative in either taking responsibility for the work done by his employees or making good on the work. This is the only time we ever used him. We would never call him again, and we have made sure that family and close friends know of our experience.
Description of Work: This was what was requested and an estimate provided for: Refinish the living room floor. Replace baseboards/shoe molding with new baseboards/shoe molding stained to match the floor. Stain and mount 5" crown molding.

Jay and his helper arrived on schedule and completed the hardwood installation within one day as he had promised. He was very professional in dealing with the unexpected elevation problem. Also, he responded quickly to correct two small problems that I discovered later.
Description of Work: Work entailed replacement of the carpeted floor in our master bedroom with hardwood. When the carpet and padding was removed. It was discovered that the sub-floor elevation was about 1/4 inch higher than expected, which meant that the new floor would be that much higher at the doorways to adjoining rooms. The dilemma was resolved by installing tapered transition pieces at these locations.
