We were impressed by the quality of the drawings and the design ideas they had. We are planning the project for the near future and will most likely use their services
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for a kitchen remodel. We received detailed drawings and pricing information. They invested a significant amount of time for a project that will done in the future.

Showcase has been professional every step of the way on both projects. Susan and Vince were approachable and patient with (what seemed to me, endless) questions. Not having done a major project before, in 2010 the kitchen remodel seemed daunting and I wasn't sure how to even begin. We were very comfortable with Showcase (after having interviewed and received a bid from another company) managing our project. We met Susan in July 2009 and demo started on the project in Jan 2010. Once demo started the project moved along and took about 7-8 weeks, as planned. My husband and I are not capable of DIY, so we know we need to rely on the expertise of the companies we hire. For the new house build, Susan worked within the new build project timing and there were no concerns. Showcase has a network of sub-contractors and suppliers to support the project. In my opinion, when contracting with a company like Showcase you are purchasing design services, project management services and cabinetry. There are many cabinet companies from which to choose and it is an important decision to understand all aspects of the project including design and project management. We were very pleased with the services provided by Showcase Kitchen and Bath. I have not included the cost of the project because I don't think the cost of our projects are relevant to the review.
Description of Work: We have used Showcase Kitchen and Bath for a kitchen remodel in 2010 (house built in 1993) and then for a kitchen design/cabinet purchase and bathrooms design/cabinet purchase for a 2011 new house build.

Initial sales pitch was warm & fuzzy but way overpriced. To lower the cost we did all the design ourselves. We did all the demolition and framing. We selected & purchased the tile. We selected & purchased the plumbing fixtures (Crescent Supply - excellent). We did all the electrical work. Why did we sign with Showcase? We figured by paying too much we'd be motivated to do a project we'd put off for 20 years (this is our only full bathroom). After I finished the demolition, Showcase demanded half payment after doing nothing. It was in the contract. They sent Steve Orlando Plumbing (very messy, do not let them in your house) and Bill Hudick Tilesetting (excellent, highly recommended); both got hung out for payment. Showcase did 2 different sets of drawings, both wrong. Now the toilet is against the vanity. I made sure to work directly with the tilesetter so he wouldn't use the botched Showcase drawings. The job dragged on for months. Showcase never showed up to see how the job was going; they left all the project management to us. We had to call the contractors. We had to schedule the work. The only thing Showcase did was take money (and not pay the contractors). Showcase tried to squeeze an extra $1900 out of us because Orlando Plumbing overcharged them. I had to redo some of the plumber's work because it was shoddy. Even now, the vanity drain is a laughable kluge, but we do not want any further contact with these people. If you have lots of extra money, no idea what you want, don't care that your house is a wreck for months, are not concerned with quality workmanship and aren't bothered that contractors aren't getting paid, Showcase is for you. If you can tear a picture out of a magazine and show it to a contractor like Bill Hudick (or another Angie's list recommended contractor), you will save a pile of money and aggravation. We ran into a friend of a friend who was another customer of Showcase, but who is not an Angie's List member. Showcase had done their kitchen. He was livid. This review is tame & gentle compared to his reaction - I post this on the poor fellow's behalf.
Description of Work: Bathroom renovation - full gut job to a Victorian style home. Forget Showcase and find a good contractor. They are good at selling you but then you're on the hook and the problems begin.

Response from SHOWCASE KITCHEN & BATH
I'm pleased Angie's list is giving me an opportunity to respond to the review posted here. When the homeowner contacted us, they weren't sure how to translate some ideas they had for a bath remodel into a buildable design. I designed the space and continued to do revised to-scale drawings until the homeowner was satisfied. The client chose to do their own demolition to bring the cost of the project down. By buying their plumbing fixtures at Crescent Supply, they were able to receive a discount that is offered to my clients rather than me purchasing them and charging them retail prices. The amount of demo required involved removing walls into an adjoining closet and totally gutting both areas and then reframing the space for new functions. The client, tile contractor, and plumber all had sets of working drawings. The client also wanted to do his own electrical work right from the start. The project had tiling to the ceiling in a very large walk-in shower in a Moroccan type of pattern where our tile contractor worked the design out so there was never a cut tile! The tiling was also done on the floor and part way up the walls around the rest of the room. This was a considerable labor project. When work commenced, I would visit the jobsite, sometimes the clients would be at work. The contractors confided that the homeowner would sometimes stop them and say he wanted to do the next phase of work, which stopped the flow of the project. The client had signed a contract with terms of payment clearly written (deposit plus progress payments to pay materials and contractors as they worked). The plumber found conditions when trying to move plumbing stacks from basement to 2nd floor to required more work than anticipated when the walls were open (very possible in a 100 year old city house), he was entitled to the extra which the homeowner would never acknowledge. I did pay that plumber the extra he deserved. Finally, all contractors were definitely paid once the homeowner forwarded his final payment. I think this client was never realistic about what such a large scale remodel should cost (most of this cost was for labor for a deservedly good tile contractor), and I think in the end they will tell you it is a beautiful job (they acknowledge such by commending the tile person). Again, thank you, Angie's list, for an opportunity to comment on the above.

DESIGN WAS EXCELLENT, AND QUALITY OF MATERIALS USED WAS VERY GOOD. INSTALLATION PROCESS WAS GOOD. THEY USE A SEPARATE CONTRACTOR FOR PLUMBING, ELECTRICAL WORK, GRANITE COUNTERS, AND HARDWOOD FLOORS. THE PROJECT MANAGER WAS NOT ON SITE VERY MUCH, SO WE HAD TO OVERSEE MANY OF THE DETAILS. WE FELT THAT HE SHOULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB AT COMMUNICATING WITH US DURING THE VARIOUS STAGES OF THE PROJECT. DESPITE THESE SNAFUS, WE ARE PLEASED WITH THE END RESULT.
Description of Work: GUTTED ENTIRE KITCHEN, KNOCKED DOWN WALL BETWEEN KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM, BUILT PENINSULA, INSTALLED CABINETS, APPLIANCES, AND TILE BACKSPLASH.
