Towards the end they didn't finish the job and we didn't give him the last $800. This guy, he didn't finish the job and he left with still all $800, he never answered the phone, he never came to finish the job, he never got his $800 but would have loved to pay him the $800 if they finish the job. They're not professionals. They did the real creepy crappy job on finishing up some of the tile work and then they'd left our mirror in the bathroom without fixing it. I would not use them again in the future.
Description of Work: They did two bathrooms and remodeled it. We purchased all the stuff from them. They put down the floor in a room and then they create the walls and the grout on the floor was not even dry so we still have some of bleached out grout in the room because it absorbs the powder. It's so complicated to explain.

Doug and his crew did a great job. They offered several very good suggestions on the work we wanted done that turned out to be fantastic - especially relating to the wainscotting. There were a few changes that needed to be made and he was very good about getting the work done. I even had a problem with some roofing/siding that was outside the work scope and he and his crew took the time to inspect the problem, provide me with a short-term solution and give me a ball park cost for repairs on a return trip. Our house had a number of challenges for them to work around but they did a very good job handling everything. I would recommend Doug to family and friends and am already planning on having them back for another project.
Description of Work: Install wainscotting in formal dining room, install crown molding in dining room and library, trim out 5 open door ways.

Description of Work: I had called Doug and he came to our home and did a complete walkthrough of the projects we needed completed and provided us an estimate within a week. They made a follow up call to us a few weeks later and we were ready to get the project going (Installing interior doors, installing a new patio door, & re-finishing our staircase). After I spoke to Doug and we committed to the project...I never heard from him again. I left 3 messages and an email over the course of several weeks and never received a call or email? Doug seemed like a good contractor and I anticipate he would have done a good job...simply stopped communicating with us.

Overall went good. First time ever used contractor in the house.(first major renovation). First time gave anyone key to house besides family. Felt comfortable doing so with Doug. HYP also put support beams on basement ceiling to support the heavier floors above and moved my furniture as they did the job. Job went a little longer than originally thought, but weather with his other projects caused that to happen. I was not in a rush so ok with me. (It was raining non stop those few weeks )As far as satisfaction: good. It was a learning experience for me. Two wood planks have perfect circles filled in with wood putty that I notice when in room; I should have asked that planks be used that do not have that issue. (there was leftover wood). When had walk thru with Doug, had minor issues with grout, which is normal. It sometimes cracks as it dries. He marked with red for worker to come back and fix. After they sealed floor, still see a little pink where the red marks were (outside pantry). Not hugely noticeable because I did not catch until few days later in sunlight. ( I did not mention to Doug after I found, because it is not that noticeable). Overall, everyone was professional and friendly. I love my floors. Very easy to clean, which is good because I have cats and a dog. I would use HYP again for upstairs flooring when I am ready to do so.
Description of Work: Hard wood flooring installed in living room. Ceramic 12x12 tile installed in entryway, dining room, bathroom, and kitchen. Joices attached to basement ceiling to support heavier floors. Moved furniture as they did job.

I first want to start out by stating that our original contact with Doug was very professional and courteous. We found him on Angie's List and heard only good things about him in our community. However, I as a member of Angie's List feel it is my responsibility to provide feedback that I think is honest for others to view. However, my review, which is rather negative is NOT meant to question Doug's ability and professionalism, which is most likely superb. Unfortunately, we will never actually know this as our experience with Hyp Renovations was not great. Our original intention was to get a bathroom renovation on our half bath, as well as new tile flooring, which extends into the entryway. Hyp Renovations were the first contractors we had over to conduct a survey of the area and provide us with an estimate. Doug came out to the house and was very nice and professional. He did all necessary measurements, drew diagrams, asked questions, and provided good feedback. My wife and I thought we had found the right people for the job on the first try. He stated that he would get back to us with a good estimate and a line by line cost for each task that needed to be done. A week went by and we had not heard anything and so we contacted his office to enquire. We learned that Doug was on vacation and his secretary(or the person charged with compiling the estimate) was in and out recently with health issues. In total, 2 1/2 weeks go by before we received an estimate for the work. When we reviewed the estimate, we were shocked at the cost just for labor, and thought that perhaps did not have a good perspective on what this job was actually going to cost us. Also, the estimate did not break down the line by line cost for each item as was promised. Therefore, we contacted Hyp Renovations again to ask for a new estimate, just for the flooring. The lady stated that she will have to contact Doug to get details for that portion of the work. Not sure why this was necessary, since everything should have been laid out line by line. Another week goes by before we get the new estimate for the flooring. Again, we are shocked at the cost for labor on tile flooring for approximately 113 sp. ft. In reviewing the new estimate, I noticed that they wanted to remove the vanity and tile underneath, as opposed to leaving it in place and tiling up against it. I asked them to remove that item, hoping that the price would then decrease significantly. After about 4-5 days, they made the change and sent us yet a third estimate. The third estimate was only 100 dollars less than the previous one. We felt absolutely insulted by this. Therefore, we contacted a couple other contractors to conduct an estimate of the tile flooring job. To make a long story short, Hyp Renovations charge for labor was 1,000 dollars more than anybody else. Through this process, we got the feeling that perhaps Hyp Renovations were not quite interested in doing the work (although this is only speculation). Maybe they only target bigger jobs? I'm not quite sure but I certainly wish we could have saved some time and looked elsewhere a lot sooner. Again, I do not want to discredit the work that Hyp Renovations conducts. They do have a good reputation and should continue to have one. Nevertheless, I do hope that for their future customers they handle things a little bit better.
Description of Work: The services that we originally wanted performed was a basic bathroom remodel. This included installing a new vanity, painting, and installing ceramic tile. The bathroom is not big, only about 6' x 6', and the flooring expanded out into the entryway, which is about 110 sq. ft. in total.

I live in a condo complex and I’m one of the members of the association’s board. So we have a lot of maintenance done. The guy’s name is Doug Hyp. He has provided a lot of services for us. The guy who dealt with Doug told him that he was more than willing to give him a recommendation because he did excellent work. I was involved with him as well but I’m in charge of landscaping and not maintenance. He was prompt. His employees that he brought with him were neat. They did the job. If there was a problem, they fixed it. There was a leak in one of the corners in the gutters where they had joined, and so they came back and fixed it properly. Everything he did was very neat, very timely and very efficiently. He dealt well with the home owners. If he made a mess, he cleaned up after himself. He’s probably going to be back next year which means he is good. He was very good and very efficient. We will use his services again in the future. He’s presently giving us a bid for next years work. He was recommended to us and I personally checked up with references on Angie’s list.
Description of Work: We used Hyp Renovations. We have a lot of different maintenance done. We have had gutters, down spouts, fascia and soffits, and doors done. He did the outside maintenance this year and it was in September. We live in an older condo complex that was built in the 1970’s and so he replaced fascia and soffits and gutters. He replaced a complete door frame as well as the door itself. He put on the hardware and he did some painting. He did all exterior work. He cut out the damage that was there on the garage towards the lower part against the ground and replaced it with composite wood. He did a lot of exterior maintenance.

Doug was really easy to work with. He came to the space for an initial consultation to meet with me and the salon owner. He was punctual and he had all of his tools for measuring etc. with him. He was imagininative and gave us some really good ideas not only regarding the construction but also on the actual design of the space. He gave us the estimate in a very timely matter and his prices were amazing. His custom work is absolutely beautiful. He is a true craftsman. The entire space was finished in under a month.
Description of Work: Complete gut and remodel of a commercial salon space. A wall had to be created to close half of the space off so drywall and insullation were involved. Custom lighting was installed in the front of the salon, in the pedicure room, in both bathrooms and above custom built shelves. Custom fabricated pedicure platform with resin pedicure bowls, and brand new plumbing for faucets were installed. All of the existing cabinetry that was kept was re-laminated. Hand-fabricated, custom designed shelving and storage stations were built and laminated. Entirely new cabinetry fabricated and installed in back room area for employee use with new sinks installed and plumbing re-configured. Installed new floooring throughout including Duraceramic floors in both of the bathrooms.
