Response to request for an estimate to install a stainless steel chimney liner was prompt and the price was competitive. The installation team, Brian, Tony, and Nick, arrived on time and were very thorough, courteous and professional in completing the job, including replacement of an old chimney cap. They also were meticulous in entering the house, cleaning up after the job was done, and most importantly, in observing all precautionary rules governing safety and social distancing during these challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on my experience, I can recommend this company highly and with confidence.

No contract signed.
Description of Work: They did excellent work on their last job for us. After a few years, they sent a discount card in the mail (10.30.16), that read that their services included "free estimate--stone and brick point"--which we need. When we called and asked for a chimney estimate--they refused the job over the phone without visually examining the chimney; saying that they don't perform that kind of work. However, they did quickly respond to our phone call, and site unseen, gave some verbal advice as how to deal with the problem ourselves -- which we can't. That's why we're currently looking for another contractor.

Company representative came as planned and checked fireplace insert and cleaned areas the owner could not reach. Representative did a neat job. Owner had intended that company representative would install new glass (which owner had purchased) but company representative said he didn't have time to insert the new glass. Owner should have notified company in advance that insertion of new glass was expected in addition to cleaning the fireplace insert and checking the chimney exhaust.
Description of Work: Company representative checked fireplace insert which had already been cleaned by owner and cleaned what owner couldn't reach.

Will not be hiring. Its a shame, as they were recommended to me by others whose opinions I would normally trust.
Description of Work: Arranged to have an estimate done for repairs that our roofer recommended be done to the chimney due to a leak. My husband received the estimating team at our home, and had nothing good to say. The gentlemen were unprofessional to say the least, discussing our neighborhood in a derogatory way. Then, the report was that we need more flashing, but, uh, they don't do that. Needless to say, we'll be getting other estimates, for even if it is the flashing and that is more of a roofer's work, we would not want these two, at least, working on our home.

We contacted Mainline Chimney after a Mason we found on the list, said that we needed our Chimney sealed, the pointing was fine. Once we called Mainline Chimney, a crew came out within a few days to give us an estimate. We explained that we had a reoccuring leak from our Chimney, within Minutes they determined the problem was that the Crown needed to be resealed along with the rest of the Chimney. We also needed to replace the Galvanized caps with Stainless caps. Mainline Chimney warrantees these for life. We also asked how we keep stink bugs from entering through a seldom used second Chimney. They cusom cut a large bathroom tile to seal off the opening. The roofer we have used "Hynes Roofing" quoted us $1600 to seal both Chimneys this did not include a warranty for the work nor did it include new caps which were $300 of the cost of this Chimney job. The estimate was for sealing our one Chimney, however the technicians did both while they were here for no additional cost.
Description of Work: Installed two new stainless chimney caps, sealed two Chimneys, and installed a custom cut tile to close off Stink bug access on an unused Chimney

Setting up the appointment was easy and the person on the phone was very curteous, however the person who came to our house to do the inspection and give us a quote was anything but. They arrived 20 minutes early, no probem with that per se, but I wasn't ready to receive them so they (main guy and young helper )had to wait 5 minutes for me, which apparently annoyed the main person (luckily that morning my husband had to go to the airport and he was home to open the door). As I come down I see that they were starting to set up to inspect the flue liner. I told them that we do not use the fireplace so we are not concened about the flue liner at this point, that we needed an estimate on repointing the chimney only. He (unfortunately I do not know this person's name because he introduced himself only to my husband and never to me) continued to talk past me to my husband about the liner and when I insisted that we were not interested in that, he said "Oh, you are one of those people who wants a 500 dollar job". My husband tried to difuse the tension by asking them to step outside to look at the chimney. I don't want to go into too much detail but this person was not interested in finding out what we were concerned about and kept talking louder and more aggressively to us, ending with him yelling that "You are the most ignorant people I have ever met" and how "you have wasted my morning" (he left before the appointment was even supposed to have started). It was the most appalling customer service experience I've ever had. Maybe this person was having a bad day, but to be so rude to potential customers is completely unacceptable. My husband is the most easy going and mellow person on earth, yet he was extremely upset about what happened. We DO NOT recommend this company. We hired another company to do the job and we are very pleased with their work.

The chimney sweeps arrived (the sweep and apprentice?) and I showed them the fireplace, which happens to have a fireplace insert. I was told they weren't told it was an insert and that the price was much more for an insert and it would take much longer - none of this was told to me when I made the appointment nor was I asked if we had an insert (this has to be a common question, no?) The sweep opened and closed the damper and saw soot falling, each time saying, and quot;See that kid?and quot; over-and-over again. Yes, we use our fireplace 24-7 in the winter and that is why we get it cleaned. and quot;See that soot kid?and quot; YES, WE SEE THE SOOT! and quot; Can you clean it or not?and quot; I asked. After a few trips in and out he said he couldn't clean it and that I'd have to set up an appointment for at least 2 hours and move than $200 (rather than $129?) to clean our fireplace (previous years we paid $159 but this was a deal so I thought I'd try it) I was going through my household paperwork to find the previous chimney sweep as the current sweep stood over me. Again, I was ready to kick him out because he couldn't clean it and there was no point in him watching me - it was uncomfortable. He asked me if I told the owner I had an insert when I set up the appointment and I indicated I hadn't -- it didn't occur to me that I had to and again, HE DIDN'T ASK. I was told I should have advised him and I shot back that and quot;Surely I'm not the only person in Philadelphia with a fireplace insert?and quot; I closed the door behind them and called the guy we used previously! I'll wait a month for him ...

The night before the job was scheduled I received a friendly reminder call. The next morning the crew arrived right on time. They did the work they had anticipated. There were 3 workmen who came to do the job. They were all very polite. They were clean while they worked in the house, and cleaned up any left over dirt, etc. before leaving. I felt they were careful of the furniture, floor, rugs. They were done in about 1 hour. I was very satisfied with the whole experience. I still haven't lit the fireplace yet, but I feel very confident that it will be fine.
Description of Work: My fireplace let a lot of smoke into the living room, so I knew I needed it fixed. I picked Main Line Chimney randomly, based on location. They came to evaluate the problem, and told me what I needed to fix, and gave me a decent price. They came that same week to do the work. They fixed the flue, put on a new chimney cap.

This is the first time I've had the chimney cleaned and they were very prompt, clean, friendly, and gave us some tips on using the fireplace effectively. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: They cleaned the chimney well. It took them about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes and they were very clean, had their own cover for the rug and floor. It's a little noisy, but they told me it would be so.

On Saturday Aug. 18 it started to rain. We still had water coming down into the chimney. I called the company three times that day, got a machine, left a messages. No reply. Called Sunday, no reply. Called Monday, got a call back around 8:00 pm from lady who picks up their messages. She said she would leave them a note to call first thing Tuesday morning, they were usually in the office by 7:30 am. No phone call. Called several times Tuesday the 21, no reply. It is still raining and now there is water running out of the bottom of the chimney box, the back side of which is in our garage. There is a stream of water and rust running across the garage floor. Wednesday the 22, several more attempts to reach them. No reply. It is now Thursday the 23, called this morning, got machine, no reply. You might not want to use this company if you value your time and your home.
Description of Work: Chimney caps to both the fireplace chimney and the oil furnace flue chimney were removed for replacement and repair of the interior chimney stacks. Materials needed to be ordered. We contracted Main Line Chimney to repair both our fireplace chimney and our oil flue chimney. They arrived on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 and removed both caps to the chimney. They placed some plastic over the caps and we were told that material had to be ordered and they would get back to us later in the week. On Wednesday the 8th it started to rain. We had water coming down into the chimney box which you could see when you went up into the attic and looked up the chimney surround box. I called and got a machine. I left a message that we had water running down inside the chimney box. We got a return call from the lady who answers the phone. Thursday the 9th, 3 guys returned to "fix" the problem with rain water getting in.

Initial contact was easy and I had someone to inspect the chimney within about a week in the early part of the heating season. I requested that a quote be expedited to my attention via fax. I had an extremely difficult time getting a hold of someone for quote status which took 4 business days to arrive. I immediately accepted the quote and it took almost another week to schedule the service. The repair required two visits and an extra $200 over the quote, but based on the difficulty of the process, I was not too concerned. Overall, I was pleased by the price and quality of work, but the responsiveness and convenience was lacking.

We just moved into our home and wanted our chimney cleaned because we had noticed a wood burning smell in our home. 2 men arrived promptly and gave a brief inspection and then cleaned the chimney. They said everything looked fine, however, we thought they cleaned the place a bit too quick. They also told us that the odor was from the back draft and there is nothing we can do about it. The following year we hired a new company (Horvath Chimney Sweep) who did a much thorough job of cleaning and even removed parts in the flute to clean. This company told us that our chimney looked as if it was never cleaned and that was why we were getting that odor. Overall, we were disappointed with Main Line as they seemed to have done a poor, quick job of cleaning our chimney.

As the other member noted, Main Line is difficult to contact. I originally called them after seeing their ad in a Val-Pak. A week later, they returned my call to set up a free estimate. The estimate was fine, however, I got the feeling they were more interested in chimney work since it was summer. I may try again, as winter approaches, however due to the difficulty in contacting them, I have slight reservations recommending.
