Mr. Lowry was over 10 minutes late and apologized profusely, he had the wrong address to start, but everything after that went very smoothly. He started by looking at my recent gas and electric bills to see if they were normal and commented on irregularities there, which I had noticed too. He then looked through the whole house with me, checking appliances, windows, vents, the electrical work, and the ceiling. He did an exhaust test on my furnace and oven, and recommended putting an additional carbon monoxide detector in the bedroom. He had very helpful suggestions about a loan program available to make improvements that will save me quite a bit on my energy bills, Keystone Help. Overall the audit took much less time than I expected, Mr. Lowry was extremely courteous, knowledgeable and professional. This service was exactly what I expected, but the additional tip about the loan program was an added bonus.
Description of Work: Mr. Lowry, of Lowry EcoSolutions, did a complete inspection of my home to determine where I might invest in improvements to save on my energy bills. He inspected all of my appliances: the fridge, oven, furnace and cooling system, all the vents for the furnace and dryer, looking for problems and ways they could be improved. He also inspected my windows, ceilings, and doorways for air leaks, as well as recommended installing another carbon monoxide detector near the sleeping area, as I only had one in the kitchen. He checked for exhaust from my oven and furnace, and helped figure out the best settings for my new furnace and thermostat to be as efficient as possible. His report is comprehensive and very helpful for me in prioritizing the improvements to make, which is just what I was looking for. He also recommended a program available for loans for these improvements with almost no interest, which I didn't expect but which is very very helpful for me.

I had a great experience. Eric was punctual, friendly, informative, and seemed overall to be enthusiastic about his work. All of this was great in helping me to understand a good deal more about my house and, as a first time homeowner, I felt that Eric did a good job of taking the time to explain things in simple terms (he never came off as though explaining was any sort of burden). I would highly recommend Eric's work, and would be glad to work with him again in the future!

We are just getting started with the process. We just had him the other week for the energy auditing and then we immediately got the report. He was really outstanding. My husband found this person on Angie's List. He did an energy assessment of our house. He's not selling anything other than a very thorough look at your house to see if there are any places that you need installation, for example a refrigerator, that kind of thing. Their service was just wonderful. He's efficient, he came exactly when he say he was going to and everything was good about him. He seems very competent and professional. He does exactly what he's hired to do and he does it very well. I thought their prices are very fair.

I signed up to participate in the EnergyWorks program, and that began with a home energy audit (which EW offered at a substantial discount for program participants--I imagine this meant that EW paid for part of the audit to bring my $150 fee up to the usual $400 standard). Based on reviews here at Angie's List, I chose Eric Lowry to do the audit (I had to choose from an EW list of auditors, which was wide-ranging, and I used Angie's List to narrow my choices). It was easy to schedule with him online, he confrmed the appointment close to the date, and arrived on time. He was extremely professional and thorough. He answered all of my questions. When I asked how I could know if my walls were sufficiently insulated, he said that I could add on an infra-red scan, which was not part of the EnergyWorks standard audit. As it was only $75 and Eric was already here, it was too good to pass up, as I had always wondered about this since I got the house more than 12 years ago. We examined every room, and I was very happy to be able to "see inside my walls." Eric emailed me his report and recommendations very fast--within a few days, and was very quick to answer my questions via email. He recommended two contractors to do the work needed, and was very helpful in answering my further questions about other contractors when one of his two recommendations didn't want to schedule work in my area. It isn't often that one can say that one has absolutely no reservations in recommending someone, but that is my confident conclusion about Eric.
Description of Work: Eric performed a standard energy audit of the house, looking for opportunities to improve the insulation and air sealing of the house that would result in measureable energy savings. The audit included a visual inspection of the attic, basement, garage, and living area and a "blower door test" to measure air infiltration.

The contractor I chose did the work--They were prompt, gave me full explanation of what I needed to do and what they would do. I chose the storm windows I decided to use and I'm not happy with them--I should have gotten more information and I'm not sure if that would have been from EcoSolutions or from the contractor. Eric Lowry is willing to follow up with my concern about the windows, but we are waiting until spring. I currently have a low interest loan that I pay off monthly through a federally funded lender.
Description of Work: Lowry EcoSolutions evaluated my house for energy efficiency as part of a the Energy Works Federal low interest program. Eric Lowry did the evaluation and took photographs and wrote a comprehensive report written about areas on air leakage and high energy use in the house. They recommended contractors who were part of thelow interest Federal program. Eric was alway available by telephone and e-mail fo answer questions I had. He is still available for a concern I currently have.

Eric, the proprietor of Lowry Eco Solutions was a true professional from start to finish. He understood my need to have recommendations based on a minimum versus maximum number of home energy use improvements to make, given that the house was built around the turn of the century. Consequently, he made recommendations on the repair or replacement of appliances and systems, in that regard, so that I could move forward with a plan that met my budget and timeframes. He also recommended contractors with whom he was personally familiar that I could contact for estimates. Moreover, he was fastidious in finding a gas leak behind my dryer as I mentioned that I smellled gas, upon occasion, and had had 4 different repair-service workers out to invesitgate - none of whom found any problem. The problem was subsequently fixed by my plumber with the insertion of a new hose. Eric also installed 2 carbon monoxide monitors (at a nominal charge) explaining to me that carbon monoxide gas could leak from any of my heating systems without any noticeable smell. I now feel much safer with these monitors installed. Finally, as a result of undertaking this whole home energy audit, I can qualify for a very low interest loan, on the home improvements, through my state's energy conservation program. I highly recommend Lowry EcoSolutions to any homeowners who are considering a house energy audit from a knowledgeable professional who has proven to have the consumer's best interests, in mind.
Description of Work: Performed whole house energy audit as an approved contractor of the PA Energy Works program. Tested heating equipment for safety (e.g. gas; carbon monoxide leaks); installed 2 carbon monoxide detectors; and made recommendations regarding increasing energy usage of applicances and systems currently in use.

Description of Work: Home Energy Audit - Eric explained the procedure in detail and was very professional - arriving on time, professionally attired, taking off his shoes before entering the home, answering all of my questions completely. He visually inspected all rooms, performed thorough assessment of efficiency and ventilation of boiler/hot water heater, performed blower test, etc. He also provided me with useful information re: tax credits and home energy loans that may be available to me, as well as providing me with web sites that would allow me to effect the improvements he suggested.

I can't remember how I settled on this firm, but I believe that I received an email announcement of the subsidized program and Eric's participating in it. He was not pushy and I appreciated his willingness to support the program and to solicit work from the start. Most communication was by email -- always prompt. Some by phone. The audit took no more than 3 hours, but Eric welcomed my walking through the house as he did the survey and he made suggestions as we went. He also positively noted where efforts at effiency had already been made. His system for covering the open door through which he does the blower test is quick and efficient and doesn't let lots of cold air in.
Description of Work: Whole house energy audit, including blower test. This was a subsidized fee as Lowry EcoSolutions was participating in a program to encourage homeowners to get audits. Eric was prompt, efficient, and pleasant. He was informative in person as was his promptly filed report which offered recommendations for making this old house more energy efficient.

Eric was great and I highly recommend him. Not only is he thorough and extremely professional, but he's also willing to fully explain his observations and answer any questions you have (and I tend to have a lot). I learned a ton from being at the audit. We used the Keystone HELP home energy efficiency upgrade loan program (http://www.keystonehelp.com/info/keystonehelp.php) to take action on some of his suggestions (which were clearly outlined in the report he sent us afterwards) and I could immediately feel a difference in the temperature of the basement -- and it's all thanks to things (like foam-sealing the joist pockets) that I never would have thought of on my own. Eric also did a great job of explaining which jobs he thought we could do on our own and which ones he thought would be best done by professionals. It was a real pleasure to meet and work with him, and I can already tell that his suggestions are saving us money and keeping us more comfortable in our home.
Description of Work: We did an energy audit with Eric through the Energyworks program in Pennsylvania, which subsidizes audits (I don't remember how much it would have been full price, but I believe it'd be close to 400 or 500 dollars -- the program's a great deal!). He spent several hours with me inspecting the house for possible energy losses, and performed a blower door test to see just how leaky our house is. He also tried to inspect it using an infrared camera but since it was a temperate springtime day, there wasn't enough of a difference between the inside and outside temperatures for it to show much.

Eric was very professional and thorough. He showed up early, explained everything that he was doing and taught me a lot about building science and energy auditing. The report he produced was very helpful in deciding how to move forward with insulation and air sealing upgrades. He's also very pet-friendly, as our dog decided underfoot was the best place to be.
Description of Work: Eric performed a detailed energy audit on our house (working with the EnergyWorks program). He performed a blower door test, gas leak test, as well as a thorough walk-through and visual inspection of the house, inside and out, including all accessible parts of the foundation, etc. Unfortunately, the warm weather did not permit thermal imaging of the interior and exterior.

Eric Lowry arrived promptly at our home with his tools. He was friendly and polite, and seemed to appreciate the character of our old Victorian house. He suggested commonsense improvements that would not detract from the historic details in our home. He patiently explained what he was looking for, what he found, and made recommendations for improvements. His suggestions included both who we could hire to implement the energy improvements (contractors for insulation, heating, etc.) and what changes we could implement on our own with a little elbow grease to save money. His report arrived promptly after his audit and was very thorough and informative. We plan to use his report as a blueprint for improvements we will make to our home's efficiency in the years ahead. We were contacted by a few contractors referred by Eric to us following the audit who provided non-pushy estimates for the work we needed done. One contractor referred by Eric submitted a bid that Eric felt was a bit high and recommended we get a second bid. We have called Eric a few times to ask his advice on matters related to our home and he has been very responsive...even though his job is already done. I would hire him again with zero hesitation and recommend him to anyone looking for an expert home energy audit.
Description of Work: Eric Lowry performed a complete home energy audit on our 4000+ SF leaky Victorian home. He spent several hours examining our furnaces, insulation, ducts, doors, windows...everything from the basement to the attic. He was extremely thorough. We also learned a lot about our house (where we've lived for more than a decade) in the time he spent with us. And while this isn't really relative.. He seems to be as fastidious with his dress as he is with his home energy audits. His khakis and shirt were pressed and starched (!!).

Eric found out that our ductwork was not sealed (common) - this was allowing heat to seep out before reaching the upstairs. He also discovered that my thermostat is mounted on a wall which is directly in front of one of these leaky ducts. So the wall behind the thermostat was 5-6 degrees warmer than the ambient temperature in the room. A simple fix of sealing the exposed ducts where they leave the furnace in the basement, and moving the thermostat should help direct more heat to my kids' bedrooms, even though it won't technically save energy use. He did recommend some other efficiencies however, including replacing an older fridge in our garage, and fixing a basement window that was letting in a lot of cold air. My house is 12 years old and generally air tight - or as air tight as you want it to be!! Eric explained to me that you want to allow air to circulate as well and that if the house were completely air tight it would not be good either.
Description of Work: Eric came to our house to perform an energy audit. I was sure we were losing heat somewhere before it was able to get to my kids' rooms. Eric inspected our house including the insulation, the visible duct work, the furnace, dryer, etc. He also did a blower door test to see if the house is drafty. He provided a comprehensive report of his findings. He was extremely competent, completely non-salesy, and just a nice guy to have in your house for a few hours. We had the audit using a program from Energy Works and only paid $150 out of pocket. And the things Eric found for us to remedy are relatively easy fixes, too, that we can do ourselves at low cost. Your mileage may vary on that one, of course - we were lucky. I highly recommend Eric.

Eric was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He gave a full overview of the goals and objectives of the energy audit, went over areas of particular concern to me, and made sure that I understood the work he was performing. He was open to me participating as much or as little as I wanted. I was very interested in the audit and 'tagged along' throughout most of it. Eric explaind what he was doing and observing as he moved throughout my home. I asked Eric many, many questions and he patiently provided thoughful, understandable answers. The suggestions Eric made, which were detailed in a report he provided shortly after the audit, have been very helpful in improving my home's efficiency and saving me significant $. I have not implemented all of his suggestions to-date, but do plan on doing so and hiring Eric to help oversee the work. I would highly recommend having Lowry EcoSolutions perform an energy audit on your home.
Description of Work: Eric performed a top to bottom Energy Audit of my home. Eric was recommended by Energy Works, in Philadelphia. After emails to arrange a time for the inspection, he showed up on time and did the inspection in the time promised. I went along with him as he did the inspection, and he explained things clearly to me. His explanations gave me a whole new perspective on how my house works. He then sent me a very thorough analysis in PDF format.
Description of Work: Eric Lowry performed an energy audit of my house. He was sent to me from Energy Works, in Philadelphia. Eric was very polite, professional and thorough in his inspection. His report was very extensive, and I was able to use it to acquire 3 bids from different contractors (all listed by Energy Works). None of the contractors found the report deficient in any way. Eric was also very good at explaining to me the consequences of his audit, as well as the kind of work I need to do to improve the energy efficiency of my house. I believe Eric is also a professional engineer, and this gave me added assurance he knows what he is talking about. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Eric.

Eric was great, from start to finish. He was recommended by my fiance's friend, who does geothermal systems, as a great energy audit person, and did not disappoint. Eric communicated promptly and clearly. He arrived as scheduled, and was great interacting with my two little girls (no school that day). He crawled all over the house, and developed a list of things for me to do to improve the energy efficiency. The report arrived less than a week after the inspection, and Eric answered many questions that I had about the report promptly via email. I am (slowly) working my way through the list. Unfortunately, he does not provide estimates of cost savings, either from individual items on the list or the list as a whole, which makes it hard to know which ones will pay for themselves. Other than that (for which I graded the price a B instead of an A), I am very pleased with the report and with the whole experience.
