Electrical Contractor, over $10K. I usually don’t write reviews. I’ve only written two or three in the past 15 years. This time it's about a contractor whose services were great: Brad Brown and his team - the electrical contractor we used for our major kitchen renovation. I had used Brad for a few small jobs around my house and he did fine: good work, prompt service and fair prices. I called Brad for a total kitchen renovation and he quoted a range of costs depending on what was uncovered as the work progressed. Fair enough. He started the day after I approved the quote. The fast service was appreciated - and sorely needed as our first electrician pulled out suddenly and everything in our renovation had ground to a halt. It was smart of Brad to recommend he first install a separate sub-panel in the basement just to serve the kitchen electrics. In hindsight it turned out to be a brilliant idea - as now all the wire runs from the new panel were shorter, and the new electric panel was clean and easily accessible. it was easy to visualize and a pleasure to work with at any future date. Smart. All the circuitry was now very clean. Wires were run straight and parallel to the joists - something no other electrician (or plumber) ever did. Wires were intelligently ordered and clearly marked. All lighting, outlets and specialty wiring holes were cut with precision - you know, measure twice and cut once. One electrician cut the hole and a helper held a vacuum under the cut to contain the dust and debris. Never saw anyone else do that - and it was certainly appreciated. All work was neat. A thorough clean up of the premises was conducted at the end of each day. Brad and his A-Team showed up early, took a brief lunch if at all, and left late - to knock the job out in the fastest possible time. It was amazing. The nature of electrical work when interfacing with a General Contractor is to work around the GC’s team in the order that the job calls for. While it must be a juggling nightmare for electricians to schedule this, it didn’t seem to be a problem: as the contractor scheduled him in Brad came himself or sent his team. His staff was always polite, helpful, and positive. I don’t need a lot of hand holding, but hearing “we can do this no problem” facing some of the more difficult runs (behind stone walls) was reassuring. Now that the job is over I’ve had a chance to examine the work, Brad Brown’s Team remains amazing. The sub-panel is sharp and precise. Wires throughout are run in a logical order. Labels that make sense - that I can read, understand and know where they go. The circuitry layout is great, clearly marked and all the wiring lines have been laid out in straight runs. Future work will be easy. My house is over 125 years old and I’ve had a lot of work performed over time. So I’ve dealt with a lot of contractors. This has been a particularly good experience. Brad Brown is a recommended vendor.

Brad was great. Professional, helpful and responsive. We would call him again for any electrical work we need.
Description of Work: We had a bad outlet that was preventing us from running our AC. We called Brad and he responded quickly. He was not able to come immediately so he gave us advice on what to check in hopes we could fix the problem. We were able to do so and get our AC back on right away.

With just an hour or two notice Brad was willing to drop what he was doing and come by to do a thorough inspection of the house. He was very up front about what he found and was really helpful in assisting us to figure out what work was necessary and the approximate cost. He also pointed out some issues going on in the house that he found during his inspection that were enlightening and helped us make a good decision regarding the house. Next time we need any electrical work, we will definitely be calling Brad.
Description of Work: We had an electrical inspection fall through at the last minute and were searching for someone who might be able to come in and give us an idea of what was happening at a house we were under contract to buy. We only had until the end of the day to negotiate with the seller so we were in a bind.

No response. Brad contacted me and said he'd be interested in providing an estimate, and asked me to send him some pics / videos of what was to be done. I sent those on Wednesday. No response. Sent a follow up message Friday. No response through today, Monday. Very unprofessional.

Hi [Member Name Removed], I'm sorry about your experience. It was unprofessional. I asked you to make an effort that I did not return. When we spoke, I asked for pictures because we were finishing a large knob and tube rewire job and were committed to a deadline for Thursday. My intention was to expedite giving you an estimated cost by looking at videos instead of waiting to make an appointment to come take a look at the work you needed. When we finished on Thursday, I should have been more diligent in reviewing our texts, so I could respond to you by Friday, but there was a build up of work that we were already hired to do that required attention. When the weekend started we had some plans through Sunday and I responded to you with an estimated cost range on Monday around 5pm. I now realize we did not hear back from you because you had already written this review before I sent you those numbers. Please note we received a notification of your review on Angie's List today, so we were not aware that you had posted it on Monday when we responded. Again, we apologize for not getting back to you in a more timely fashion.

Response from BRAD BROWN ELECTRIC
[Member Name Removed] called me to rectify some landscape light wiring which was installed by landscape contractors. The job was very small. The transformer, the member is referencing, was located in the garage with the lights on the other side of the wall. The previous landscape contractors had cut old wires and taped the new connection together and used indoor wire nuts. During this job, I ran a brand new cable to three lights in close vicinity. The member said he would rebury the wire and did't want me to do it, since he could. When we turned the transformer on it blew the fuse. I told him I would find the necessary fuses. I hunted for the necessary fuse while engaged in jobs that were already in progress. I returned with the right fuse and confirmed the issue was the transformer (it kept blowing the fuse), which could only be determined by replacing the fuse first. The member had another transformer from the previous contractors. It looked complicated and digital and it seemed like a poor choice. I hooked it up and it was functioning normally. There was an in-unit timer on this transformer that seemed elaborate. On this visit, I did not have the time needed to complete the job, so another scheduled visit was needed. I told the customer that I would leave it "on off" mode and we agreed he would find the instructions for the transformer (and timer) and figure out the rest. I did not want to charge him for reading directions. I was willing to help in any way requested but I could tell he was frustrated with all the back and forth and the mysterious issues. During this transaction, I was slow to respond in between visits because of many other things going on. The result was a little job being dragged out. I am all about communication and clarity. This job was not the best example of my communication skills which I pride myself on. As far as hiring people to fix my work, the scenario did't even have the necessary properties of needing to fix my work. It sounds like [Member Name Removed] is confusing me with the previous contractor he used. I am an extreme perfectionist with my work. Everything I did on that job was correct, straight, securely fastened and up to code. Such as the transformer which was mounted quite securely to the wall and the wire entered the transformer in a straight and neat fashion. Many times electricians are very dramatic about the condition of a job they take on, which seems to me to be an attempt to inflate the challenges of the situation and increase the value of their presence. The only way I can make sense of this review is that the customer was frustrated with the time it took me to complete the task. It seems like the member must have called another contractor who fabricated some story about having to do things that he made seem relevant. Possibly because the customer ended up trying to use the timer and could not get it to work; inspiring him to call someone else. As he looked back at the whole experience, the member wanted to take his frustration out on someone. Now, I am the toughest customer I have. I don't let anything slip and I believe that a commitment to excellence requires unending self evaluation. The particular circumstances of this job did increase the frustration and negative experience of this customer. I would give myself C- or a D depending on how generously I was judging myself. This experience would have been expedited much quicker had I been right on top of it. Lastly, I learned about this review today, about two hours ago, despite it being up for over a month and was unaware with the customer's dissatisfaction that was communicated in his review. Although we missed the email notification of this review, the first thing I did was call him. There was no answer. I followed up with a text offering his money back. I never leave unsatisfied customers in my wake.

Brad and his team were great to work with. We had just moved and called him to upgrade our electric and he came over the next day, and by the end of the week, him and his team had upgraded our electric. While he was there, we also asked about running cable wires. His team was there the next week. We even had issues with our TV's, which we thought was the cable wires (turns out it was the boxes), but one of his crew came out and tested everything with me until we figured it out. They said they stand by their work, and they certainly did. Would definitely hire them again.

It went well. Some of the wall to fixture wiring had been previously updated, but most of the wiring running from attic to basement needed to be replaced and grounded fixtures all throughout. It was a big task. Brad mapped it all out days before starting the job. One thing Brad prides himself on is customer service, and he carried that out through the entire project. There was change orders, as well as punch list items, and he took care of all of them promptly and efficiently. Brad was on the job site most of the time, and when he wasn't he was in constant communication with his two crew members (both very nice fellows).

Brad showed up, installed one of the two ceiling fans (the other one made noise) and then charged my mother $300. When making plans to come back to install the second fan, he texted her. Included in that text were the lines: "Sometimes we have a tendency to get distracted at your place..." - He had only even been to her place once. "If he finishes and you guys talk for 20 minutes after that, that 20 minutes is on the clock..." What contractor has ever said this? Talk about customer service. "You have a tendency to talk and I can't lose money on time." Completely unprofessional. He tried to get her to agree to terms which included no conversation if he came back to complete the job. He was extremely unprofessional and both my mother and I were appalled by his text. He accepted $300 for installing one ceiling fan and then tried to charge another $200 to come back for the second. We will not use this provider again, and urge everyone to seek out another electrician.

Outstanding experience all around. Brad was great to work with. He really wears his commitment to customer service on his sleeve, so to speak. Brad responded the same day of my call and we discussed the scope of the project. Since he had been to the house before, we selected the under cabinet and the outside lights on the phone and by email. I picked up the lights. Regarding the new 240 outlet in the garage, Brad stood in every corner of the garage sizing the best location?showing a practical and esthetic eye. I am so pleased where he installed it. His two assistants were capable, professional, and under frequent supervision from Brad. After installing the under cabinet lights, we noticed the screws had come through the thin wood bottom. They showed disapproval of the results and would do nothing short of replacing every screw filing the small holes, so that no one can notice it. The outside lights were impeccably placed with care to the surrounding plants, using string and levels to keep the same distance from each step, and getting the best shedding of light. They left without leaving a trace. I am one pleased customer.

Brad's Team arrived as scheduled, they kept our house clean and livable during the rewire. Brad identified multiple issues with the existing wiring that was tied into the knob & tube and communicated the issue with me and asked for direction. Brad insured that all wiring that was installed was up to current NEC and IBC codes for residential construction. Brad's team ensured that proper nail plates were installed (not installing these is a shortcut often taken by lesser contractors) and closed up holes with patching compound after I had a chance to inspect the work. Over all Brad's team is very easy to work with and communicate effectively. I will be hiring Brad again for future electrical work.

We received several estimates to upgrade our house's wiring, install exhaust fans in two bathrooms, add ceiling fans to our porch, and install a back-up generator transfer switch with exterior plug. The portion of the house that needed new wiring included 5 bedrooms, 3 baths, 3 other rooms, front porch, and all hallways. While Brad was not the lowest estimate (nor the highest), his professional pride, easygoing personality, and other great reviews won out. Brad and his team spent about 3 weeks in our house, tearing out plaster and drywall to run new wiring through our all stone home. Brad and his guys (Anthony and Ja) were friendly, polite, cleaned up the area in which they were working each day we were home, and were very accommodating in working around our two young children. The work behind the walls that we saw, and in the basement, looks clean, we have had zero problems with the results, and the guys patched the resulting holes in the walls and ceilings well. Overall I would recommend Brad Brown Electric for any job, small or large.

I had previously used Brad Brown to do a bunch of minor electrical fixes based on the inspection report of our new home. Then when it became clear that work in the basement would require moving the main electrical panel I called him again along with another contractor. His quote was competitive and most important, he was available immediately (the work had to be done in two weeks prior to move-in). The electricians worked very effectively with the other contractors, including working hot to keep heat and power on. My only concern was the cost of the project doubled compared to the original estimate. But that wasn't necessarily Brad's fault, the sheath for the incoming mains cracked when removed and many years of prior updates and sub-panels meant the circuits really had to be rewired with new panels, Brad gave me the option to keep existing and I elected for new. As of now we are still waiting for the front light to be installed, but that was because the ground was frozen and covered with snow until a few weeks ago. Overall, we are 100% satisfied and would happily use Brad Brown for future electrical work.

We lost electric power on Christmas morning. I looked for places that guaranteed 24/7 and emergency service. this was the fourth place I called. He said there would be a surcharge but he was there in 45 minutes. He was extremely courteous and thoughtful. He stayed for 3 1/2 hours and made all of the necessary repairs. He explained what where the defect was and what needed to be done. He cleaned up after himself completely. His rates were very reasonable and his service was fantastic. Brad reviewed the work we needed, made suggestions and advised on the choice of lighting. He really knows what he's doing and demonstrated it throughout the planning and delivery. He presented a competitive quote with details of how the work would be done. To say he was cooperative and flexible would be an understatement. I purchased the lights and just paid for the labor. A week later he arrived at 8am promptly with a team and worked non stop for 10 hours. We were consulted regularly on placement of lights and other details to make sure things were done as we wanted. They put down drop cloths, cleaned the ceilings, vacuumed and removed all the many boxes. The result was fantastic. Exactly what we asked for. Brad and his crew were awesome. Hire them you won't regret it.

I have hired Brad and his team in the past for electrical work and have always been pleased. Brad is not the least expensive electrician, but his prices are reasonable for the level of service and attention to detail. In other words, you get what you pay for. Brad came to my home and talked to me about what I wanted to do. I have a large living room that was illuminated using two standing lamps, which clearly wasn't working. We went through several options (i.e halogen, led) and landed on low voltage LED lights. They weren't the cheapest option by far, but Brad and I talked it out and mutually agreed that was the best option. The team arrived bright and early (on time) and got started. It was a large job and took three people most of the day. While most contractors would have just started cutting, Brad meticulously measured and mocked up the lights so I could see the pattern before any holes were cut. Once we agreed on a pattern the installation began. Once all the lights were installed Brad noticed that two of the twelve lights were not dimming properly. The problem was quickly diagnosed to a model issue. Even though it was too late in the day to replace the lights, Brad arranged to have the lights replaced two days later. They would have been replaced the next morning, but I was not available. After the defective lights were replaced everything worked as described. The LEDs look great and I'm very happy with the result. I was also pleased with the level of professionalism of his crew and the time they took to clean up after they completed their work. I would not hesitate to hire Brad in the future.
Description of Work: I hired Brad to install 12 low level LED lights in my living room. He also removed two old fixtures, but did not install new ones because I didn't haven't picked them out.
