Brad visited my home to provide an estimate for rewiring the entire house (replace knob & tube, upgrade to 200 amp service, etc.). He seemed professional and knowledgeable. He promised to provide an estimate within the next 2-3 days. About a week and a half later I finally received his estimate, which was extremely vague and undetailed - no mention of a new service panel, no breakdown of specific services, costs of materials vs labor, etc. - and which provided a very broad estimated price range of $17,500 - $21,000. Ultimately, I went with an electrician who provided a more prompt, detailed, specific, and less expensive estimate.

Response from BRAD BROWN ELECTRIC
In response to this review I have a couple things to say. When I do an estimate for a very large job I have learned over the years to use my time and energy in a way that is qualified at every step. I spoke in detail with Melody about her job and spent a good bit of time walking through her home and getting an idea of what would be involved for this particular rewire. Knob and tube rewiring is a specialty for my company and it's something we do quit a bit of. While walking through the job I sensed a slight feeling of hesitation like she was just gathering information. I couldn't tell how serious she was about doing the job so as a preliminary estimate I gave her my numbers. If she wanted to move forward I would have itemized and specified things accordingly. I am a very detail oriented and I certainly didn't absent mindedly leave anything out of what I sent. I don't believe that I told her 2 or 3 days for the estimate to be sent. Usually five days is the most time I will take to produce an estimate but if it is a big estimate or requires a lot of thought sometimes it may take a week. There are many different ways to rewire a house and I have never had anything but happy customers after we are done rewiring and they see what had to be done, and how we did it. I am a satisfaction guaranteed business which means if you are not 100 percent satified and feel like we did an excellent job than we won't take your money. In conclusion, I am sorry that Melody's expectations were not met but I don't know if I can concede to having behaved in a way that was unprofessional. Never the less, criticism can always lead to healthy growth if it is received with the right state of mind and with that I will conclude by saying thank you for the feed back!

They were prompt and professional when they came to quote the project. Very informative and happy to share insight and recommendations for our project. Ultimately we decided to use another company due to price but we were very happy with the interactions we had with Brand Brown Electric.

Brad came out to give me an estimate, and explained exactly what was code, and what needed to be done. He then emailed me a very detailed estimate, with options as to what we could do, and what we could forego. We chose to do pretty much everything on his estimate. He showed up exactly on time on the appointed day, which was within just a few days of my giving him the confirmation that i'd like him to do the job. He brought a crew of two additional guys with him, and they worked all day. They were all friendly, professional, and even swept out my garage when they were done! The work itself was exceptional, everything was perfectly labeled, and beautifully done. In addition to that, Brad was so friendly, so respectful, and just so nice, it was a pleasure to work with him. The estimate was dead-on, no unpleasant surprises. We need more electrical work done in our soon to be remodeled kitchen, and you can be sure that it's Brad we will be calling to do it.
Description of Work: We bought an older home (is there any other kind in merion?) and it needed to have the entire panel replaced, as well as have a grounding rod installed, and run through to the basement water meter.

I called Brad to check out my electric panel; home inspector believed it was undersized. Brad checked the panel out and did say that although it was a mess, it was fine, not over-loaded and would serve me well in the future.

We were having new kitchen cabinets installed and needed additional eletrical outlets. The contractor installing the cabinets gave us a price for the additional outlets but I thought it might be a good idea to get a quote from an eletrician. I'm glad I did. Brad came and explained why the contractors ideas were woefully inadequate. (My house is 80 years old and very little eletrical work has been done in 80 years.) I explained to Brad that I was on a very strict budget and he gave me a few options. Of course I picked the cheapest one. Lo and behold - Brad's final price was hundreds of dollars LOWER than his estimate!!! Beyond the pricing issues you just get the feeling that Brad and his guys know what they're doing: very professional, punctual, intent on doing to best job and trying to save you money. Really? What more could you ask for?

We had a cable jack in the library in our house that never worked. Over the years we had cable guys from Verizon and Comcast look at it and they could not determine which wire in the basement fed up to that room and could not fix it. Another contractor determined which basement wire was going up there but I could never get him to actually come back to the house to do the work. It was not a major issue until we really wanted to put a tv in that room after having a custom built in put in. I was in a RUSH because it was less than two weeks until Christmas and I wanted to surprise my husband with putting a tv in there. I researched on Angie's List and decided to try Brad Brown. Brad was responsive, professional and made every effort to get there as soon as possible to help me try and get it done before Xmas. (I ended up telling my husband what I was up to because it was going to be easier for him to be at the house when Brad came.)

I received bids from three different electricians (all highly rated on Angie?s List) and after my conversation with Brad; I felt the most conformable with him and his services even though his quote was the highest. Once we discussed the scope of work to be preformed, Brad laid out an action plan on how he was going to solve my electrical problems. In my humble opinion, Brad has a level of professionalism that?s above and beyond most contractors and I highly recommend his services.

The problem was no up front disclosure of price for the visit nor the fact he didn't take a credit card. Very polite and responsive man who seems very knowledgeable about his business. In the conversation on the phone, I asked if he could come over and fix our outside electric box so we could have Christmas lights. I knew this was very last minute, but it would be nice if possible. He said he was on a job almost around the corner and would come right over. I asked how much it would be, but in our conversation, this info didn't get followed up so I knew ahead of time what the charges would be. This may be my fault as well as Brad's, but I was totally surprised to learn a service call is $125.00. The time spent repairing the fixture was at least a half hour, so I don't feel cheated on the work, but would never have had him come if I had known the charge ahead of time. I was informed that he didn't take a credit card at the time of payment.

Response from BRAD BROWN ELECTRIC
I was just finishing up a job in Bryn Mawr when I got a call from the member. She sounded very unhappy that she couldn't get her Christmas lights on. Her location was right around the corner from where I was and sometimes if I can I like to tell people I'll come right over if they sound like they would really appreciate that kind of service for their problem. When I got there I found that there was an outdoor outlet with a bad Gfi outlet. The outlet was by the walkway in in a patch of flowers very low to the ground. The box it was in was old and needed to be replaced and the screws from the cover were all stripped and rusted. I replaced all of them. It was raining and wet out so it was a little muddy and the location was about 6 inches off the ground. After I changed the Gfi to a new Gfi there was still an issue. The Gfi would not reset. To test this I opened another Gfi to try it out and confirmed that there was a wiring issue that was causing low voltage that wouldn't allow the Gfi's to reset. We ended up finding a solution that would allow her to have her lights on and her needs were met which is always my priority. When we talked on the phone she sounded very intent on fixing the problem as soon as possible. She did ask how much something like this might cost and I told her I would have to take a look at it to know and then my questions led to me just coming by. I would certainly have had no problem telling her the range of cost that it could have been before I came over. I am a firm believer in 100% transparency in business and my communication skills are something I take pride in and practice in my personal and business life. I believe clear honest communication is one of the keys to success in life. A service call can range from $75 to $150 if it is under an hour and can also depends how many men are on the service call. It also depends on the intensity of the work. Honestly, I thought she would have been more pleased because the week before Christmas is usually hard to get contractors to come out for small jobs but when I told her $130 ($125 for the service call and $5 for the outlet) she was very surprised and felt like that was a very high cost. In the end, I am 100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back so if she had told me she was that unhappy I would have given her a discount so that she would feel like she received excellent service at an excellent price. My policy is 100% success on every job. I don't think there is ever a reason to leave anything behind on a job except another happy customer. That is my commitment. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, but I prefer to call it having a passion for excellence. After spending some time talking to her about the lighting in her kitchen, Beverly and I agreed that I would give her a discount from the next job where we would come and fix the underground wiring issue because of her feeling like my price was more than she expected. I did offer to lower my price and she said that's ok I want us to both feel good about it. I will still offer her a discount on the future work and provide her with excellent future service.

Response from BRAD BROWN ELECTRIC
I do apologize for not getting back to this gentleman. His mother called inquiring about a exhaust fan install. I tried to help her by giving her some numbers over the phone which is generally avoided in this context because of the amount of questions necessary to come up with anything accurate. Sometimes it is harmless if people just want a "ball park" to give them some ideas. The week before Christmas is very busy as everyone wants to get everything done before the Holidays and that is when this took place. It is my intention to call every customer back but sometimes all my energy must has to be applied to the jobs I am already committed to. If this principle is ignored, over committing can lead to overwhelm and the existing jobs and customers don't get all the attention and focus they potentially need. I am usually able to respond to all inquires but when I can't there are always circumstances that prevent it.

We had a bunch of electrical work done in our home when we first moved in by a guy in the neighborhood. I swear he was on drugs when he was here because an hour after he left, absolutely nothing worked. So we called Brad Brown, referred to us by my Mother in Law, to come and fix everything. It took them a week, and we had to pay for the work all over again, but at least now everything is perfect. We even added motion sensors outside which we love. Next time I will hire Brad Brown the first time around.

Brad and his coworker showed up right on time to check the two light switches that were giving me problems. They replaced the two switches in less than an hour and were on their way. I will absolutely use Brad again if I have more electrical work to do and I would certainly recommend him to any friends/family looking for an electrician. I was really pleased with the quality and speed of work but more importantly with Brad's professionalism.
Description of Work: I had a dining room switch and a bathroom switch that were making crackling/snapping noises when I turned on the switch. The lights had stopped working altogether and I was worried about sparking which could cause a fire so I wanted a professional to come take a look since the house and wiring are very old. Brad called me back within a day of me leaving a message for him and had fit me into the schedule to fix the switches within just a few days.

Brad did a great job and didn't try to sell me any "free" extras, that seem end up making the price of the job higher, which is what I found from the other companies that gave me estimates. Brad was prompt inresponding to my inquiry and arrived at the stated time. He and his colleague were professional in all repsects, explaining what they were doing as they went. They worked efficiently, splitting up when they could. Brad diagnosed the problem with the bathroom lighting and suggested a solution, and also checked out all aspects of my exterior trail lights and recommended alternatives. He voluntarily adjusted his charges when one of the fixtures that he installed(that I had purchased) turned out to have a manufacturing defect and needed to be replaced. His pricing is very fair.

Brad arrived on time for the installation, took time to plan exactly how the installation would progress before drilling and cutting into the walls and ceiling and completed the installation in just a few hours. He explained what he intended to do before proceeding to ensure that he was going to meet our expectations. He cleaned up the work area and left the house looking like the light fixtures had always been there! We are very pleased with his work and professionallism!

From beginning to end this was a great experience. It was a model for how a home owner would hope to interact with a contractor. Brad was highly professional, knowledgeable, efficient, honest, and personable. He demonstrated a keen interest in meeting our needs taking into consideration both the aesthetics of the job while keeping the costs reasonable (his bid was approximately 50% of the other two contractors). One contractor's quote required two workers for two days. Brad and his assistant completed the work in less than one day. We were working with tight time constraints and he was quite responsive and flexible. He completed and submitted his estimate over the weekend, we agreed on the work on Monday and he scheduled the work for that Wednesday. We had other contractors working at the same time and in the same crawl space area and they all worked well together. He showed up on time and he and his assistant completed the work on schedule and on budget. Although not necessary, he even went to a local supply house to pick up different breakers since the ones he had in his truck were a different brand than the ones in our panel. As he described it, they would have worked but it wouldn't have looked as good. And as if all of the above were not enough, Brad has a great outlook on life. Without a doubt, my wife and I would hire Brad Brown Electric again and would, without any reservation, recommend Brad to our friends.

Extremely satisfied with Brad Brown Electric. It was raining out the day his team arrived, but they were on time and even laid tarps down to prevent dust from spreading to the carpet and furniture. Would definitely recommend this company in the future.
