John and his crew were a pleasure to deal with. John kept in constant communication with us and let us know what the problems were as well as the solutions. He and his crew went above and beyond to get our house ready to go on the market. We had a multitude of issues that needed attention and they got them all fixed up and looking good. John is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of construction and we would highly recommend him to anyone in need of his services.

We highly recommend John and On Call Contracting. We had an emergency situation with our well pump recently in the middle of one of the coldest weekends in January 2021. John answered the call, walking us through troubleshooting and eventually replacing the well pump. A very difficult job that required knowledge & ability in several different trades! This was during a pandemic, in the middle of a freezing cold snap and right before a major snow storm! John is amazing, mindful of safety and provides quality service! On Call is our first call when we need help! JGC

On Call Contracting is amazing! Prompt, affordable service for our growing family. We needed our kitchen done (including removing walls) and John was our guy! The entire process went so smooth and the results are beautiful. We had an out dated kitchen from 1960 and On Call helped us design, remove, re-build, and install our new kitchen cabinets and everything! Couldnt be happier and would highly recommend!

Fast and clean. All the guys were cool and polite. I passed there info on to my neighbor.

I was completely amazed at the work done by On-Call. We just purchased a 130+ yr. old house that requires all kinds of work. Nothing is a readily available standard size but they have always been able to come through and solve the problem. Just amazing !

I originally contracted with OCC in 2012 to install a 3/4 bathroom. I usually like to give good reviews even if some work is shoddy, by trying to highlight the positive outcomes. However, I cannot think of any positive outcome in this case. The company didn't install it as per our agreement and then abandoned the job before it was finished, leaving me with the mess. I know that sometimes things happen so I tried to contact the owner, John Ott for MONTHS to attempt some kind of resolution. He refused to communicate with me and had his secretary tell me that he was out of the country, busy, not in the office...etc. I am a pretty easy-going person but after 4 YEARS (statute of limitations for construction) I had no choice but to take him to court, March 9, 2016. He told the judge he wasn't aware of the issue even though I had already submitted a stack of the email correspondences and several copies of the contracts with his letterhead. After hearing both sides, the judge obviously awarded in my favor. After 45 days and not receiving any settlement or even any contact at all, I emailed John Ott's lawyer who informed me that he wasn't representing Mr. Ott and then forwarded my email to Mr. Ott advising him to deal directly with me. Mr. Ott emailed that he would only pay me a 'few dollars a month' to show the courts that he was making an attempt to settle and that it was my choice to accept it or not. He also wrote, and I quote " If you choose to spend more money pursuing this, that is also your choice. I do not believe any court will allow you to add those costs..." He didn't specify what the 'few dollars' a month meant. He made no offer to work it out any other way at all. This is why I cannot think of anything positive to offer this review. Folks like this make me feel sympathy for all of the honest hard working talented contractors out there. I just want to caution customers to check a company's insurance policy, actually read what the coverage is, and ask for past references. I love to recommend contractors to others who have done good work for me. I am sorry to say, John Ott is not one of them.

It was great They showed up one day late, but the office called and informed me the day before that they would be a day late getting started. They came everyday, they informed me of what they would be doing. They gave me advance notice on when I needed to pick out my appliances, vanity, tiles etc. They gave me good advice on what would work. Their designs with my average tile turned it into a show tile. I simply cannot say enough about how happy I am with the final results. And oh yes, here is the best part, they cleaned up my house and made it almost dust free every single day. What more could you ask for.

I had the ugliest kitchen ever! I immediately called the ONLY company I would let work for me, On Call Contracting Services. John immediately came out and gave me an estimate, but before the estimate he had me set up with an architect to redesign my lay out and John made some great suggestions that the architect put into effect. John worked the estimate to fit my budget and I decided it was now or never so I signed on the dotted line! And his company did quite a remarkable job! I couldn't believe the transformation from what I had to live with for years, to what I now LOVE and enjoy being in my kitchen again. Thank you John Ott and all the men who did this gorgeous transformation! They were THE most courteous workers I've ever dealt with. They cleaned up the area completely each day before they left. They were very careful not to let my cats out when they came in and out of the doors. They even called one morning to say they were running late but would be there within the hour. What contractors do that? They work quickly but they do such a fantastic job! I encourage everyone to call this company for anything, any kind of work you need. I would never call anyone but On Call Contracting Services, they're the best and I have been using them for years and I have referred them to all my friends! BTW, I have also read the previous reviews and I'm not sure if Mr Barlow is talking about the same company as I am. Because On Call Contracting is FANTASTIC and they are only a phone call away and respond immediately.

They came out one time to review project. Never called back and never sent estimate.

Crappy workmanship and complete lack of professionalism. Rip-off! This company was supposed to be responsible for a large job that involved complete renovation of a kitchen, dining room, installing wood floors, removing existing carpet, waterproofing basement after mold remediation, installing gutters, etc. They did not show up for the first 3 weeks after they told us they would begin. Once they began the project, which was supposed to be done in 6 weeks total, they would send 2-3 guys and get a limited amount of things done then leave. After a couple of weeks on the site, they were gone for 2 weeks leaving the site untouched while they attended to other business. The basement mold remediation and waterproofing was supposed to be done by a partner who specialized in this but was not and is not done properly as there is mold int he basement only 3 months after they left. We were told we would get a warranty for the basement waterproofing but repeated calls for this have gone unreturned. We have buyers for the house that are asking for this warranty and we can not get John even on the phone to provide this documentation. They took $55,000 and only completed about $30,000 worth of work, which itself was lousy in quality. You can see many tape lines in the drywall work. They stained the ceiling rafters the wrong color (looks orange) and this cannot be undone! The most troubling concern? They were asked to clean and check up on the heating system since it had not been turned on in over a year. Tenants were to be moving in in a month and they had been told this. They did not clean or check the system and a deadly carbon monoxide leak was present. The tenants turned on the heat but then turned it off because of a "smell" which is lucky for them. If they had left it on they would not ever have woken up!! We had paid him a last installment of $6000 to have him fix this heater.....after which he simply left without doing anything to the heater at all! We have a report from another heating company that says it had not been cleaned in a very long time and that the leak was obvious and would have been seen if he'd even looked at the unit! We are in the process of reporting this company to the BBB! We have also called local detectives on the matter to potentially file criminal charges of negligence, since his actions could have lead to the death of our tenants! STAY AWAY from ON CALL CONTRACTING, LLC. It is a good thing for them that they are an LLC - limited in their liability personally!

They inspected the property, but they never followed up with an estimate.

Called to get an estimate on repairing drywall over kitchen window that was damaged due to water from Hurricane Irene. Placed call but never received a response.

The work was okay but it took them forever. They started it on March 11th and they finished it on August 29th. They didn't show up and I had to keep calling them to see when they were coming to finish. When they came, they were on time, so I would grade them ‘B' on punctuality. They could improve on communication and showing up. I would not use them again in the future.

It was reasonable and they marvelous about cleaning up.

At the request of the receptionist, I provided a scope of the work I wanted done. She told me he would call me on Monday to schedule an appointment for an estimate. I never heard back. I emailed her again, requesting the appointment. I never got a reply... never heard from them again. Even if they have all the work they need, this is discourteous.

They were professional in their approach. They did a good job but they weren't as thorough as their competitor. All of their prices were competitive.

Whole experience was great! They came out promptly for an estimate that was way more reasonable then some others we received. The job was scheduled, they came out and finished he job in the allotted time frame and were professional throughout the whole process. Would definitely use them again as well as recommend them to friends and family.

I called them and they made an appointment, but on the day they said they were coming, the receptionist called and said he couldn't make it. The receptionist couldn't make another appointment b/c she didnt have his schedule.

They were very prompt and very informative. His estimate of the three that we had received was line by line what the insurance company had given to us. The labor and the material were line by line by cost. He also gave us a lot of information with the new law change as far as lead paint. Our house is very old and there would be an issue of lead paint on certain surfaces. He gave information on testing, on what the new law provides, and what kind of shielding of things in the house would be needed with lead paint removal in certain areas. His quote was very high for what we have available to do the job but again I was pleased with his professionalism and the information given to us. He even recommended that we get other quotes and steer ourselves to people who do water and fire restoration since the people we were getting literally were painters. He was very responsive. I called him one morning and he was there by the afternoon. I would probably call him for an estimate again. What I am finding is if cost were not the factor, which it is, I would still have difficulty in deciding who to choose. I have been very pleased with the people who have come out. Now it is not a matter of trusting or feeling the people are competent but more so who can we have fit into our financial situation.

We are very happy and satisfied with your work and would gladly recommend you to our family and friends. We also want to thank you for setting up a deferred payment plan for us. As part of redoing my kitchen, and putting in a Japanese Garden in the back of the house, I had the sunroom redone to have a picture window and window seat. There had been so many leaks before I bought the house that the shed roof and walls were disintegrating. On Call Contracting had to rebuild the outer wall and repair the shed ceiling before drywalling the new ceiling. They then repaired the roof, replaced and widened the back door and storm door, put in a picture window with cherry trimmed frame and cherry window seat. They did a magnificent job in every aspect. The workmanship was outstanding. The crew was courteous and professional, they worked continuously to complete the job on time. The end result exceeded my expectations and I would happily use them again for future work.
