Lyle Blum, LLC Cert Arborist & Expert Tree Climber

Lyle and his team removed four curly willow trees from my property that were very inconveniently located and difficult to remove. He was courteous, responsive and provided a very fair estimate and timely work. After having to go through four (4!) Pittsburgh-area arborists, Lyle was the first one who both managed to conduct himself professionally AND provide his services for a reasonable amount. Highly recommended!

Lyle and his crew did a great job. He trimmed everything the way he told me he would during the estimate and they were very neat and had everything cleaned up when they left. I would highly recommend him to others as well as have him back again when my trees would need trimmed.

I loved the way my Japanese Maple looked after they pruned it. Very knowledgeable, courteous and professional. Showed up when promised even on an extremely cold and windy day.

It went well. There were some delays because of work load. Bringing down a tree is not that time sensitive, so that does not bother me. The crew was a bit heavy handed, and we have some some trampled flower beds and some ruts in the yard from vehicles and falling timber. There was also some damage to a rhododendron. Once again, not a big deal, but if you want straight A's, it has to be just a little bit better.

Mr. Blum did an excellent job for us. I had gotten several estimates and felt that his was the best price for this very large job. I was also impressed with his knowledge and his serious approach to the job. He and his crew completely removed a huge oak tree that was growing over the top of our house and our slate roof. They also removed large branches from a maple and two other huge oaks on our property, some of which were growing toward the roofline. He and his crew were very professional and efficient and had all the equipment needed to do the job well and safely. I was extremely impressed with their skills in tree climbing - it is amazing to watch. One of the tree branches was directly over the power lines to our house and they brought it down perfectly. Our home is on a busy corner behind a school where parents park to drop off their children in the morning, and the crew was very conscientious about the safety of pedestrians both days they were with us. The crew did a good job of cleaning up the site and even cut some of the branches into pieces for us to season for firewood at our request. We are very satisfied with their work and we will be calling them for our tree needs in the future. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Lyle came over to look at a tree that was infringing on my roof and some of the limbs in different parts of the tree were dead. He gave me an estimate and came back a week or so later and performed the work. I think he did a fantastic job. The schedule was crazy because of the rainy weather, but he was to get my job done on a nice day. There was no mess or anything and it was nice talking to him. I definitely recommend Lyle. It was clear to me that he really cares about his work and it shows. If I have any tree issues again (and I hope not!), Lyle's my guy.

Lyle and his crew showed up early. He removed several large limbs overhanging the roof and porch of our house. 3 dead trees were removed. Cleanup of wood was included. Job was done in the same day. We were very pleased and will call Lyle again when we need more trees trimmed or removed.

Lyle Blum came to my house and gave me a quote to have three trees cut down and some tree stumps ground down. We signed a contract and agreed upon the date of the service to be April 15, 2014. He called the evening of the 14th to remind me of the job. I asked what time they would start and also asked if we should get our vehicles out of the driveway as they were going to bring a lot of machinery. He told me they would arrive between 7:30 and 8:00 and that getting our cars out was a good idea. Since the weather forecast had called for some rain and snow, I also asked if they would still be doing the job. Lyle told me that he hoped the weatherman was wrong and that they do work in inclement weather but that he would call me in the morning to let me know. The next morning, I got up at 6 am and right away saw that it was raining. I waited for Lyle's call to tell me if they were coming or not so I could move the cars but never got a call. At 7:30 am, I looked out to see that two trucks were trying to back up my driveway. I immediately went out and told the person who was trying to direct the driver that I never got a call and still needed to move our cars out of the driveway. I walked with him up to the driver’s window as he relayed this information. I noticed at this time that they had put HUGE ruts into my yard in four separate places. I didn't say anything at the time. Lyle was the driver of the truck and as he's listening to his helper he gives me this look of disdain like I'm an idiot. I put my palms up and said "Lyle, you said you were gonna call in the morning." He looked away and mumbled something, at which time I said, "Did you not tell me you were going to call me this morning?" He looked at me and said, "I would call you if it was raining real bad." This was a lie. They had to pulled the trucks out and we moved our cars next door. A few minutes later I look out the window and the two trucks have backed up the driveway and Lyle and his crew are out looking at the trees, and I assume figuring out a strategy to begin work. Not a great beginning but I figured at the end of the day the trees would be gone and hopefully they would do what Lyle said they would as per our contract. Ten minutes later I look out and they are GONE! Vanished without a word. I'm thinking there is no way they would just leave without saying something. I thought maybe they must be getting different equipment or something, there's just no way they would leave without saying something, so I walked down my driveway and saw the extent of the damage done to my yard! After about 30 minutes passed without any word, I tried calling Lyle Blum and get his voicemail. I left a message saying "Hey Lyle I’m just wondering what’s going on, give me a call." No call back. 10 minutes later, I called him again with no answer. Waited and called again, no answer. An hour after they left he called me and told me they decided they weren't going to do the job today and that he would try and get me on the schedule for next Friday. I was in utter shock and disbelief and felt very frustrated and upset. I asked him why he didn’t at least walk up to the house and tell me he was leaving and how unprofessional that was. His excuse was that he was annoyed by the cars honking as he and his crew tried to back into my driveway and that he wanted to get his workers to another job! He then informed me that he would no longer honor our contract and that he would not do the work. I said, "What about my yard that you guys wrecked?" His reply was that they would be back sometime to fix it. I told him sometime wasn’t good enough and I wanted a time and date. Again, he said he wasn’t sure but they would try to come back today or tomorrow. They ended up coming back later that morning. The best Lyle Blum could do was to fill all the areas he ruined with dirt (mud) and sprinkle some grass seed on it. He and his helper gave me a shrug and said, "Hey, we tried." So not only did he do zero work that we contracted him for, my yard looks horrible where they drove through it. THE GUY JUST LEFT! Forget professionalism, this guy didn’t even have basic common courtesy to tell me in person they were leaving. Extremely disappointed.

Lyle came promptly for the estimate and wrote out the entire description of what we wanted done and why. We discussed alternatives for some and he made recommendations. At the end we had a full description, a price and a date for the work. Lyle and his crew came and performed all the work as described in the estimate. The work took most of the day. There were some items where we had changes and the crew worked with us to do those. All the work was done and cleaned up after.

Went very well. The entire process was handle professionally from the job review, quote and tree removal. Work was completed in a timely manner, area was left very clean. I would recommend Lyle Blum for tree work.

Everything went well. They arrived on time, worked efficiently, and cleaned up all of the resulting debris. We also appreciated that they arrived with a large crew that was fully equipped because they completed the job in a timely fasion. Ultimately, they did great work, and we would use them again.

The entire crew was very professional and courteous. They were earlier than expected and worked steadily to complete their work. While on site I asked about a couple little things they might be able to help with and they were very gracious about offering advice and doing what needed to be done. After the trees and limbs, etc. were cut they cleaned all the areas and covered the holes left after removing tree stumps.

He is very good. We like his work very much. They are amazing to watch.

Lyle came on time and brought a large crew. The work was done in about 2 hours and he noticed a couple of branches on another tree and too care of them as well. They cleaned everything up and I was pleased with the work.

My wife and I live on a one-acre wooded lot - with a lot of mature trees. Over the past 10 years, we have tried at least three tree service firms, with varying degrees of success. About 7 years ago, we found and hired Lyle Blum for one particular tree removal job, and were very satisfied. We have hired him several times since then, to deal with storm damage of older trees, as well as periodic need for major and minor tree pruning. Just today, he did a really big job for us: cutting down and removing 5 dead trees, grinding down the stumps, pruning some big dead or damaged branches on other trees, shaping our large locust tree, removing some bushes we needed taken out, and removal of all debris. He and his team did a great job. In our experience, Lyle has always responded promptly to requests for estimates, has always appeared on the day scheduled, and has been extremely professional and safety-conscious. He leaves the yard in very good condition. I would recommend Lyle Blum to anyone in need of professional tree services.

I would recommend Lyle for any tree services large or small. He has done numerous jobs for me over the last 6 years, both large and small. He has removed large tree limbs that over hung my house, and made tree limbs that have fallen in storms safe.

Mr Blum assured me prior to doing the actual work that he was insured. I asked for and got from him a Certificate of Liability Insurance. On the work date, in the process of taking down a maple, as my husband and I watched, he did not have his helper tie off a large limb he was cutting. As a result it fell against another large maple (which was NOT to be cut down), trashing that tree by breaking large limbs. To try to remediate the damaged tree, he cut a large broken llimb off, again without his helper tying it off. It fell onto the trunk of my husband's 1978 Buick Electra, which has the original 38,000 miles on it and was my husband's aunts. We got an estimate for repair of $1,894.76, which Mr Blum refused to pay. Worse, he refused to turn it into his insurance company! I wrote twice to his insurance company about this, but was told only he could file a claim. So in essence he lied about being insured, because if you will not file a claim, then you really are not using your insurance. It's the same as not being insured. When he first damaged the car, all that he could say is that he thought it was a junker!!! In other words, he can decide what property of someone he can trash! And this car is by no means a junker! Although not as disgusting and infuriating as what he did to our car, he also did not cut all the brush off these trees into manageable lengths. They would have been manageable if I had two Clydesdale horses to pull them. And eveything was left lay where it fell, all over the yard. Nothing was put onto piles as he wrote in his proposal. So now we're left with a damaged car that was the pride of my husband. We can't afford to fix it, and Mr Blum has refused to take responsibility for his unprofessional, sloppy, careless action.
