Fred from IPS was great. The work his crew performed was excellent. He went over and above to make us happy. He was responsive, professional, on time and pricing was reasonable.
Description of Work: Exterior painting, roof repair and drywall repair
Fred Castro returned my call very quickly, his workers came out , examined the damage.....at that point was not sure what caused the plaster to bubble. His men examined the attic (on an extremely hot day), roof and inside ceiling....they conferred with Fred and soon found the issue to be; previous contractor (2 years ago) replaced shingles on roof and did not properly install a boot around one of the vents , allowing water to seep into attic and eventually plastered ceiling.. They advised me to call the previous contractor, which I did....he claimed it could not possibly be leaking.....really did not want to deal with him AGAIN. Fred had his men return within a few days to do the work, before we received more rain. Fred and his men, Josh and Tony, were very professional, did a great job in repairing plaster , painting and cleanup of work site. I have asked Fred for estimates on some additional work I would like to have done.. I would not hesitate to hire IPS.
Description of Work: Replaced boot around roof vent, replaced wet insulation, repaired bubbled plaster caused by leak (previous contractor did not install boot properly). Repaired other plaster cracks and repainted entire ceiling.....leak was over a stairwell, not an easy area to work in.

Fred came for a free estimate the day after we contacted him. He was punctual, friendly and thorough. He was able to come in the next day for the installation. Everything went smoothly and the final cost did not differ from the estimate provided. Overall we were happy with his service and would definitely hire him again for other installations or home improvement projects.
Description of Work: Installed washer and dryer (replaced some of the connections).

Fred Castro came out and accessed the damage and was able to give me a very reasonable estimate. He advised my of several options due to the amount of damage, however, I chose the option of scraping and painting rather than replacing due to my limited financial resources. He also began work on my project the next day,and the work was done in a very timely manner and completed before the estimated completion date ( no half days or no show days!!! ) .Very professional, courteous, and punctual. He is a man of integrity and honesty, as he did not try to sell me more work than what was needed, and his estimate was very fair and cost effective. I especially appreciated the beautiful job he did, the porch actually looked as if it had been replaced. and my home-office has that finished professional look. All aspects of his service was exceptional, right down to the clean up, not a drop of paint or a tree branch to be seen and as a senior this was very important to me. I have used IPS before and they have never disappointed me in any way,and I will most definitely use them for any future job I need done. Many, many sincere thanks.

I'm retired and needed to move my disabled son and his wife into our basement to save costs. I went out to get bids in Sept. 2014 with the goal to have the 2 rooms and bathroom finished by year end. My son's apartment lease was up at the end of January 2015 and this timing would allow me one month to do the painting myself and move their things at a leisurely pace into the basement. I received 3 bids for almost the exact same price, all assuring me they could meet the end of year schedule. IPS (Fred Castro) had the best design (better materials and moving of existing plumbing to allow a nice uninterrupted ceiling). I discussed reducing the IPS price but Fred refused, saying he prided his work and wanted to do a good job. Since IPS had a better design at the same price and schedule as the other contractors, I awarded the project to Fred on Sept 15. A Dec 1 start date was in the contract and a finish date of Dec 31. Fred started the first week of December. On Dec 7, Fred adjusted his estimate to add a little to the material costs but also extended the finish date to Jan 23. This left me with only 1 week to paint and move my son in but I felt I could handle that. On Dec 21, Fred adjusted his estimate again to add a little more to the material costs and include the cost for the replacement of an existing drain line that was in bad shape. The schedule was not changed and I agreed to the change. Fred did not finish by Jan 31, so I had to move my son and his wife into a spare bedroom and put all their belongings into our garage. In early February, I asked Fred to do the painting since I would be slow doing it and I wanted to move my son ASAP. On Feb 11, Fred notified me that I would be charged $1500 for the painting. I was surprised by this since the only reason I was having him do the painting was because he did not meet the schedule but I figured we would work it out when he was done. Fred took 7 more weeks to finish the job. The final bill from IPS revealed an addition 14% increase in costs from the last estimate. Overall, excluding the $1800 for the drain line addition, this project escalated 21% in costs and the schedule went from 1 month to 4 months. Upon negotiation, Fred agreed to reduce the bill by 10. Fred did excellent work and the basement is beautiful. Fred did not take shortcuts or perform work-arounds as the other two contractors had planned and that was the reason I selected IPS. In my opinion, the 10% cost reduction is not adequate for the significant delay in the schedule and hardship this meant for my family. The delay is significant enough that I believe Fred never expected to meet the schedule and had hoped his excellent work would appease me. Fred did ask me why we were being so nice during the construction if we were upset and frankly I was surprised that he felt the schedule was not an issue. Fred was very prersonable, responsive, considerate and pleasant during the construction so I felt the final price negotiation would go well. However, Fred focused on all the good work he did and would not discuss the original estimate and schedule, essentially telling me that the schedule is unimportant as long as the work is high quality. I feel a 20-25% cost reduction is more in line with a schedule that went from 1 month to 4 months. Bottom line to me: Fred did excellent work, his cost estimating could have been a little better but his schedule estimating was either terrible or misleading. I would recommend Fred from 1) quick jobs or 2) larger jobs when scheduling is not an issue.
Description of Work: Finshed 600 sq ft of an unfinished basement into two rooms and a full bathroom. Sheetrock on walls and ceilings. Laminate flooring. Plumbing for bathroom was recessed into the concrete floor and a sump pump was needed to route the sewage to a septic tank. Also replaced an existing drainline in the ceiling from the main floor bathrooms. Replaced a water softener and routed an exisitng sump (to prevent basement flooding) to an outdoor drain rather than the septic tank.

Fred took time out of his hectic schedule to come and do a free estimate on several items that needed to be done on the home we are looking into purchasing. I immediately liked him, he wasn't pushy and had a very congenial personality. When taking a look at the property he was very concise in his description of the work that needed to be done and set our minds at ease. He explained the why and the how of stuff that needed to be done - which was important to us as we are first time buyers and have very little experience with home repairs. We would probably invite Fred over for dinner after we hired him to do work on my home. His estimate was very fair and reasonable - and very quick!
Description of Work: Fred gave us an estimate on work that we needed done on a house that we are currently purchasing.
This was a commercial job for a small company. The company is located in a high rise suite in the new City Center Allentown. We had multiple small repair jobs. IPS was the 3rd company I tried to come to the repairs. The previous Handyman did a poor job painting our office. I hired IPS to fix the bad paint job. They did a fantastic job bringing our suite back to status new. Fred Castro is very professional and returned my phone calls & emails promptly. Because this is an office he was willing to work around our schedule with minimal disruption to the office workers. His crew was curteous & professional & worked very neatly. We will certainly use IPS for our future Paint & Handyman jobs.
Description of Work: Paint hallway leading to lunch room lounge area. Requires taping off drop ceiling and wood base trim. Drop cloth service throughout with wet paint signs. Apply two coats of Behr Premium Plus Ultra matching existing color. Handyman Remove two crooked name tags off glass and re-install with double sided tape. Hang whiteboards in three separate areas. Hang tack strip in kitchen. repair damaged metal shelf. Install three under cabinet lights - Specialty Hang and install seven framed art portraits in three locations. Paint main kitchen wall and repairing dings in doorway walls and paint

I contacted Fred Castro at IPS by e-mail after reading his reviews on Angie's List. He replied the next day and we made arrangements for him to see the job. Fred is very professional. We received an estimate within a day or two. Everything was clearly spelled out in the estimate. He and his worker were out within a week and the job was completed in 2 days. I checked the work after the first day and sent Fred an e-mail about what I noticed. He replied the same evening that he had already planned on taking care of what I was concerned with. When they left after the second day, everything looked great. We were home both days and any time they had a question or concern, they made sure to ask us what we wanted to do. When Fred went to paint the peeled white trim on one exterior door, he saw that the wood was actually falling apart. He gave me a couple of choices of what he could do and I agreed to have him replace the trim with vinyl. He gave me an estimate and bought the materials and did the repair. We would definitely use IPS again. Fred is a pleasure to work with.

Fred was extremely punctual in returning our phone calls to get an initial estimate on the project. We received at least 4 estimates on the project and Fred was, by far, the most courteous contractor to deal with. Fred and his team were quick to complete the first phase of the project by removing all of the shutters from the house. I, unfortunately, slowed down the completion of the project by taking several weeks to repaint the shutters myself. Fred was very patient with me and my tardiness to finish my painting of the shutters. I called him when I was finally done and Fred and his team came back to the house to reinstall the shutters which now look great on our home!! I was not sure if we were going to use the screws that were used to hold the shutters on to the brick front of the house or use new plastic shutter anchors that I had purchased. Fred said it would be better to use the old screws/screw caps hardware on the reinstall but I did not have the screws or screw caps painted the new black color. Fred actually went ahead and painted all of the screws and screw caps himself while up on his extension ladder while he was reinstalling the newly-painted shutters!! This, in itself, saved me so much time and the screws and caps look wonderful! It only took Fred and his crew part of a day to take down the shutters and only part of a day to reinstall them. Fred completely cleaned up any and all debris after he was finished. Many thanks to Fred and his crew members!!
Description of Work: Fred and his employees removed 32 vinyl shutters from our house so that we could paint them. Upon completion of our painting of the shutters, Fred reinstalled all 32 shutters onto our home.

this work was done very well and at a reasonable price. In my experience, IPS was professional, responsive, and cared about the quality of the work.
Description of Work: Restained the deck, interior painting, repaired water damage
I was very impressed. He did a beautiful job repairing the ceiling. It is like nothing ever happened. I was impressed with his ability to detect where the leak came from. Because he was able to find where a leak happen should have happened, and he did find an area where it was leaking and was able to fix it right away before it became a problem.

We were given an estimate by them and were scheduled to sign the contract. But he comes back at the last minute saying he has to increase the estimate as he did not consider a few things. We decided not to go with them. Eventually we got a very good and more job done by someone else with less cost than his estimates.

IPS strives to present fair estimates in a timely fashion. However, on occasion, it does become necessary to adjust estimated project costs when the homeowner expands the scope of the work, as in this case. This is a common occurrence, as many homeowners decide to address additional projects since they will already be ‘under renovation’. Our aim is to be clear and upfront with our customers before work begins. Additionally, we hope (and often encourage) customers to obtain multiple estimates before beginning a project. Of course, as most know, cost is just one of many factors to be considered by the consumer. IPS understands not every consumer will choose us, but those who do can testify to our high level of service and expertise!
Fred was very quick to respond to all the issues that we had in our rental house. As we are out of state landlords, we relied on our tenants to inform us of any problems. Unfortunately many things got overlooked by them until they became major issues. Fred went out and took care of everything and even found some other issues that we were unaware of that could have become even worse. He always gets back to us with any questions and concerns that we may have. I will definitely be using his services again as I know that I can rely on him.

After his knowledge and advice, it was great to have someone who understands limited budgets and to work with us. It was also great to know he can remodel, update and repair anything in the home. This gives us a person to go to and we can save our money for bigger more complicated projects for him. Yet if something small pops up, and we don't have time, he will do as well! Best of both worlds! With so many untrustworthy contractors it's nice to find a reliable one in your neighborhood!
Description of Work: We called after having a slow leak in the ceiling in our dining room in November. The weather didn't cooperate so Fred was only able to evaluate from the inside. He was very professional and advised us at no charge. Any repairs had to wait until the snow was off of the roof. He followed me around the house as I asked about all types of projects and advice. After the winter Fred came back to see the status of our ceiling. The leak had not gotten worse over months with snow on it and Fred checked out multiple possibilities from the rooftop. He again gave advice at no charge and how we could even make the repairs on our own time! He sent over the quote promptly but we decided to try it ourselves to save money. Fred told us we could call anytime if we had questions! We did it ourselves and it looks great and has not given us trouble.

Right now, I am waiting to get a remit from the neighbor and getting some extra funding. As soon as I get everything together, the guy will start working on my property. They quoted $10000. I had four companies look at my roof and three of them wanted to sell me a new roof. The guy from Integrated seemed more honest. He told me how to fix it without having to replace the whole roof. I had some other problems that weren't as expected that he would be fixing. He did chimney inspection that needs to be rebuilt. I need to get a remit from the property owner. It is a metal roof. He explained to me how the patch would look in front of the house and come up with a decent roof again. He told me about the chimney and the chimney didn't look good because one could pull the brick out between the mortars that's how bad the chimney is. I can do that myself, but the only problem is that I broke my back and I can't get involved in the necessary materials. I have the tools and knowledge to do it, but I need three days of rest. I painted the front of the house and it knocked me for three days. I do what I can, but can't do a lot too much. Once I get it done, the roof will be fixed, the back steps will be fixed, the cellar entry will be fixed, the windows in the garage and the chimney will be fixed. He spoke about what I thought and told the same way as I thought. He explained how he would fix it. He was very honest about it. He is the only one showed up on time and everybody else went to the wrong address.

This was our first job with Fred and IPS. I appreciated how quickly he responded to my call and got to our house to check out the problem. He made suggestions about installing gutter guards that will help us not require gutter cleaning every 2 months or so. We had a ton of water coming over the tops of our gutters onto the flower beds next to our foundation. His crew installed the gutter guards in an afternoon and we have definitely noticed the difference. We have virtually no water coming over the top of the gutters and as far as I can see, the guards have been doing a good job keeping stuff out of the gutters and so keeping them clog free. We know plenty of water is getting our of the gutters because we can see the pools near the discharge tubes, which are routed 10-15 feet from the foundation. Everything, from start to finish was perfect.

Fred has been great to work with, this is our second job that he has completed and both times he has been thorough in his explanations of what needed to be done, provided detailed estimates of costs and worked around our schedule (which was somewhat complex given other work we had scheduled). The work was done well and the job site was left in perfect condition. As it turned out, we had another contractor here working while Fred was here and he mentioned to us that the work looked very well done, which was nice to hear. We feel very confident in the quality of the work and the responsiveness of Fred and the IPS team.

We are going to use this contractor for a great many projects as he has a wide range of skills. I will update the review with each project that is competed-which I anticipate will be in the next 30-60 days. Each project will have different pricing so as we proceed I will put pricing on each review
Description of Work: I asked this contractor (Freddy) to look at our rental property that we are in the beginning process of selling; we do not live in the are so we were counting on Freddy for an honest appraisal. He let us know what exactly we needed to do and what SHOULD not need to be done-this was very important as he could have just loaded his estimate up which he did not do. He was honest, almost to a fault, reliable and worked very expediently to get the estimate done.We will be using Freddy!!

While we had to wait 3 months, due to the frozen ground, once the project began, it was done in a reasonable amount of time. There was a clear plan on how the new wall was to be built. The workers were thorough in their work, testing different stones until the right order was found, they were perfectionists.

This customer really wanted her landscape retaining wall back up quickly. We told her in November that the wall was coming down due to the severe lean it presented. She thought it would hold off till Spring but soon after we completed work on her roof it came crashing down. Unfortunately, nbow it was winter and most folks know you shouldn't build retaining walls in the winter and it didn't help that we had freezing temperatures in April every evening into the twenties. We couldn't run the risk of building the wall back up only to have it heave up at night and throw off our levels and shift. We often have to help customers exhibit patience when the integrity of the project is at hand. Not an easy task when they want it NOW.
Very professional loved the work performed. Will use him again, as well as refer him to others.

It's always a pleasure working for a repeat customer. The [member name removed] home and appreciates quality craftsmanship and materials. We enjoyed transforming the 1920's row home in to an updated home with bamboo flooring throughout as well as new paint colors. Gone was the old wallpaper which was installed in 1954. The attic received a new 12mm Acacia laminate floor which complemented the new colors and accent walls perfectly. By being flexible and open to suggestions from IPS, they ended up with a more pleasing color palate then they'd originally selected. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE - AVOID AT ALL COST
Description of Work: AVOID AT ALL COSTS - I hired Mr Castro in February after I had flood damage to my home this past January (2014). Mr Castro started the job the week of February17th with 2 apprentices and indicated that the job would take 4 weeks, 5 at most. Since my house was already in a mess I decided to do some upgrades. When I got the estimate I immediately indicated to Mr Castro that it was out of my budget. (I have emails and text messages indicating my concern). Mr Castro has avoided the conversation about the upgraded costs. A week after he started I was travelling during that week fired/left, he brought in another apprentice after a week and little progress was made on my home. On my return he fired another apprentice and brought in yet another worker into my home. There were 4 people in my home in a 2 month span. During this time Mr Castro kept indicating that I need more materials and kept adding onto the estimate (at this point, we still had not come to agreement on the price of the additional work). After I began to show my frustration with the quality of work and length of time to complete my home Mr Castro and I met to discuss the additional work I had requested. I gave Mr Castro a check for 50% of the additional work, at this point I had paid Mr Castro $25,000. We agreed on the pricing but I wanted assurance on when the work would be completed, since that was not written into the contract I did not sign and send back (plus the contract was not the price we agreed on). After cashing the check Mr Castro came to my home took his tools and materials that I had paid him to purchase and left my home. The next day I received an email indicating that he left because I did not sign the contract. I had no indication of when my home would be completed. After 2 months, 4 different workers in my home, poor quality of work and no indication of when the work would be completed AND having cashed the check I gave him, Mr Castro had the gall to walk off the job. As a single mother it annoys me that I felt that I was taken advantage of. It is appalling that Mr Castro believes he can get away with this. My patience has run thin. I am currently speaking to an attorney and I will put in a call to the BBB. It is inconceivable that Mr Castro believes that this is professional BEWARE.

Response from Integrated Property Solutions Co
(removed members name), Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. We at IPS truly value all customer feedback—even negative—because it gives us an opportunity to improve our service. Your business is important to us and we strive to ensure that all customers have a good experience with us. We understand that we didn’t fulfill your expectations and that you are upset. While there are a number of factors (e.g. special-order materials, project add-ons, illness, weather, subcontractors…) that affected the completion date of your project, it is always upsetting when a project goes longer than originally anticipated. Whenever one’s home is disrupted by construction it is unsettling at best. We genuinely apologize for the delays that were caused by IPS. Concerning the contract, in accordance with the Pennsylvania Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act, we standardly require a signed contract for all home improvement work over $500.00. While paperwork can feel like an unnecessary delay and nuisance at times, the contract is designed to protect you as the consumer. IPS operates an honest business and never engages in deceptive practices. We never seek to defraud any of our consumers, least of all single mothers (being the son of a single mother of six children myself). As has been our goal from the beginning, we want to make you happy. We invite you to contact us directly so that we can discuss an acceptable solution in detail. Fred Castro IPS, Owner

Fred was friendly, easy to contact, and quick to respond to texts and emails. There was a little delay in getting a start date because of other job commitments, but once he and his crew started on our job, they stuck with it until it was done. They were all very polite and professional, they cleaned up after themselves each day, and they clearly took great pride in their work. The finished job is beautiful, and we would not hesitate to use IPS for other jobs in the future.

This client was a true delight to work for. They didn't want to be home and be inconvenienced by any mess so we arranged for a long weekend while they were away. The customer allowed us to share some ideas on an alternate tile choice from what they picked. We gave them a marble porcelain tile which they fell in love with. Over all a nice job. Looking forward to helping them in the future.
