Hannabery is a reliable and trustworthy company. Although they are based in Allentown, they have service techs from Allentown up to Scranton, so they were able to offer service in East Stroudsburg without travel fees. I first heard of this company two years ago from a neighbor. I bought my house from the bank, and the air conditioner wouldn't stay on. I called Hannabery and the head of their service department talked me through a couple things to try over the phone, before scheduling a service call. Turned out that the filter was clogged, and he told me how to replace it myself. He must have spent 20 minutes on the phone with me, and didn't earn a cent. He genuinely wanted to make sure that I paid for a service call only if I needed it - you don't see that kind of professionalism too often nowadays. A week ago my heater kept shutting off, so of course I called Hanaberry. They promptly sent a technician to diagnose the problem. My pressure switch was dead, so heat came back the next day and replaced it. The technician was courteous and informative. Because Hannabery had earned my trust when I called about my air conditioning, I did not "shop around," with other companies, but a quick search online showed me that my repair costs anywhere from $175 to $250, so I felt that my bill of $200 was very reasonable.
Description of Work: My forced air propane heating system was not working. Came out promptly diagnosed the problem as a pressure switch, and returned next day and installed new part.

They wear booties in the house and anything they do they are very good at. We’ve never had a problem. Scheduling is very good if you schedule in advance. They have a few offices that are very busy.
Description of Work: They replaced the filter on the heat pump in the attic and they tune up the air conditioning. We are on a maintenance agreement with them. We’ve been using their service for 3-4 years. They had installed the unit originally.

Installed our unit one and a half years ago and asked for a service contract. Never got a straight answer about the service contract offerings. Called tonight because AC unit is blowing warm air. Went through their advised checklist which did not help, then called to talk to a tech for advice. Since they have not installed the unit in the last 90 days or been here in the last 30, I would have to have a life-threatening condition to talk to a tech. Other companies offer 24/7 service at a price so I called one of them. If you don't have a breakdown during business hours, you are out of luck.
Description of Work: Installed the unit originally and has serviced the unit in the past.

Response from Hannabery HVAC
We are sorry the customer encountered a malfunction with their air conditioning system. Because we can not be available 24-7 for all business matters, Hannabery HVAC has made extensive efforts to help its customers requiring assistance after-hours. For non-emergency situations, a malfunction checklist is provided, which many times, may allow the customer to resume proper operation of their HVAC system. If the malfunction still exists after the malfunction checklist has been reviewed, it would require a service technician to go on-site for a diagnosis. At this time, we do not provide the service of an after-hours technician to provide over-the-phone advice. However, if the situation was a threat to life or property, it would have been considered an emergency and a service technician would have been dispatched immediately. In reviewing the situation, we were not able to contact the customer to provide an explanation, as the customer did not leave their name or telephone number with the answering service. We do have a service plan brochure available that explains the various service plans offered and the benefits of each. Customarily, a customer inquiring about a service plan is mailed this information. Now that the homeowners’ information is known, we will send them our service plan brochure. Feel free to call our service department if there are any questions.

Replacement went exactly as I was told (1+ day). The team that was here was courteous and friendly. They took care to cover my hardwood floors where they had to pass through the house and did a great job at cleaning up. They consulted me throughout the installation about various options I had during the installation and continually updated me on progress. They did not cut corners anywhere. They even added another duct and new wiring at no extra charge on the original contract. When I had them give me a quote, I was never up-sold. I actually was the one that upgraded items (upgraded filter and humidifier system). The work outside the house was as meticulous as inside.

Adam (sales) came to our home to do a site/use survey the day after I contacted them, in mid-January. In addition to the generator/install process, he also discussed our plan to install an underground 500-gal. propane tank to supply the generator. We had to go with propane due to not having natural gas lines in our area and we wanted to ensure that we would have enough fuel to run the generator 5-7 days (the time of our last two major outages) without having to worry about a propane truck getting here if there was a major outage across the area. He confirmed that our home electric needs (all-electric home/heat pump) could be met by getting a 20KVA unit along with a "managed" solution, through the use of "load sheading". A managed system will ensure that the critical circuits would remain on, while those circuits (in our case, six) would be deactivated (by our stated priorities) if the generator would risk being overloaded, and possibly losing all circuits. You can get a "whold house" solution, but that requires a much bigger generator (water cooled, at a minimum of 2x cost) and results in using fuel for generating electricity that you may not necessarily need; a waste of $$$ in my eyes. Adam also did a site survey in order to show where we could place the generator in order to meet the code reqirements, both electrical and township setback requirements. We decided to execute the contract in about a week. However (as Adam warned us), the generator could not be delivered quickly due to the manufacturing backlog caused by Hurricane Sandy which ended in late October 2012, but requirements for generators were overwhelming the factory. Upon looking at some commercial generator supply sites, I could see that he was truthful in his statement. In fact, normal contract requirements stated 50% down at time of contract signing, but this was foregone due to the delay which was outside of their control. I did not have to pay until the generator and all electrical work was completed. The generator was received from the factory two months later and the install work commenced a week later. Dan and his electrical/mechanical installers completed the work in four days; 3.5 days for the electrical and .5 day for the generator "stress test" to make sure all circuits were wired properly, along with putting a full load on the system (yes, it handled all electrical needs, as designed). The township inspector arrived about a week later. He commented that he was impressed with the wiring that was done - saying that it was one of the best layouts along with extra points for "neatness" (whatever that means - I'm not an electrican!) The inspection approval tag was affixed to the unit at the end of his visit. All in all, we're quite pleased with the work that Hannabery performed and while not their manufactured "product", the way the Honeywell/Generac unit performs. Currently, it only does it's weekly test to ensure that it is running properly - but more importantly that it is ready for the next outage, major or minor. We can't wait ;-) ...
Description of Work: Selected Hannabery to purchase/install a Honeywell (Generac) 20KVA backup generator for our home. We have been looking at installing a unit for the last two years, ever since we had two major outages (multi-day) along with more than a few outages of multi-hours, due to our local electric utility being unable to "keep the lights on". While we had done investigation on size/brand (20KVA Generac), it wasen't until Hannabery (since we have used for HVAC services ever since our house had been built - 19 years ago) had announced that they were adding this service to their existing portfolio, that we decided to act. The generator is tagged/labeled "Honeywell", but it is actually a Generac under the covers. There is a co-branding equipment agreement between both companies since Generac provides the engine/generator and Honeywell provides the Nexus Smart Switch - the heart of the system that controls all components.

We keep a yearly service agreement with them, and that works well. It’s smart to keep the unit maintained. One thing that has become an issue for me is the scheduling of the maintenance. It is getting harder and harder to schedule these guys. You need to give about 3 MONTHS notice for regular maintenance. Also the overall work has been very good, but they have the techs that come to service the units try to push replacing the unit especially if the one you have is getting older. I get that the newer units are energy saving and efficient, but this sales bit makes the homeowner.
Description of Work: This company orginally installed our HVAC. We use them regularly for maintenace on our heat pump unit. We have also had some minor issues over the years and they have always done a great job with the repairs.

Had an intermittent problem with the furnace not turning on. They were able to come within a day or two of my call. Technician checked numerous items and only found the gas pressure to be too high. He was was not certain that was the problem but he had seen it before. He was right, furnace has functioned normally since correcting the gas pressure. He was also very respectful of my interest in the problem and explained how to read the furnace error codes if the problem should re-occur.

We have had a service agreement with Hannaberry for a little over a year. Every technician that has been here for a system check-up has been great, very friendly and knowledgeable. Anytime I have called the office the same service applied. During our recent Furnace annual check up, something wasn't coming back right so the tech did further testing and realized our combustion chamber had several cracks in it that could be sending carbon monoxide through our home. The unit was seventeen years old, so we knew this day would be here but weren't expecting it now and during the coldest week of the year we had to replace the furnace. So grateful the tech found this issue, as carbon monoxide in the home is obviously a huge issue. They came out within a few hours to give us a proposal on our unit and were very open and honest about the options we had. We opted to replace the whole system because the AC was probably going to go soon and we wanted a more energy efficient unit anyways. Because we had no heat and it was single digit temps outside, they got us on the service schedule to begin install the next day. The installers were great, very friendly and knowledgeable, showed up on time and cleaned up everything. The high efficiency unit required venting PVC pipe through the garage, which took a lot of extra work. They cut no corners, and I can tell this job was done better than most companies would have done, and at a fair price on a quick turnaround we are very happy. I highly recommend anyone call Hannaberry for their HVAC needs, we couldn't be happier with the service we have gotten from them.

We are not using them for a generator hook up
Description of Work: They are excellent for heating and air conditioning,BUT,we got a whole house generator, and not only are they ridiculous in price for connecting it up,but they really did not know anything about how far it needed to be away from the house-he said 15 feet- not so.I think they are just getting in to that business and we could hear them talking about it, and changing their minds a few times regarding he codes etc. , so we are going elsewhere for that

Response from Hannabery HVAC
We are sad to learn of this unfortunate situation. To start, we did not install the generator in question. It was already partially installed by someone else. We were asked to hook-up the gas piping only. After looking at the job, it became clear that there were several problems with the location of the generator, which posed both safety concerns and possible code violations. We attempted to explain the following issues to the homeowner: The generator was placed too close to the house. We felt that this could be a code violation, not to mention a possible fire hazard. We confirmed with the manufacturer of the generator that the clearance must be a minimum of 18” away from the house. The generator was set only 10" away from the foundation and we informed the homeowner that its location would not allow enough clearance to make the gas connections. There was a window right next to the generator. We informed the homeowner that per the manufacturers’ instructions, it did not have the proper clearance of 5 feet from any windows, not the 15 feet as described. There was a 2” vent directly behind the generator, which could interfere with its operation, possibly causing premature deterioration. The generator was placed such that it would exhaust onto the outdoor air conditioning unit, which could interfere with its operation as well. The generator was placed on a layer of stone not properly elevated for water drainage – it was basically set too low. Thus, the location of the generator, as it was set at the time we were called out, contained code, safety and other concerns. We explained to the homeowner that unless the generator was moved to a better location, we would not be able to do the gas piping. The homeowner, in spite of all the above information, insisted on not relocating it. Because we were concerned with his decision, we revisited the next day to find a safe location that would meet code, and result in a successful project. We informed the homeowner that he could move the generator to a better location to meet code requirements and clearances, and asked him to consider the change, which he refused. We wish the homeowners well in their project, but fear that it may not turn out to be a successful, safe, or professional project, and that they may later encounter problems when attempting to get the proper permits and the work inspected. We reviewed the pricing that we provided for the gas piping and believe it was fair and reasonable. We feel that our efforts and recommendations (based on code issues and the manufacturer’s installation instructions) were made in the best interest of the homeowner’s safety and property. Technician performed several tests and didn't find any obvious problems except that the gas pressure was a little too high and he adjusted it. He thought that that this "might" be the problem but wasn't sure. He did explain how I could see the "error codes" if the problem should happen again. Problem has not reoccurred in two weeks, so I think he was right about the gas pressure.

Hannabery was one of two finalists in the bidding for replacement of our 20+ year-old heating and central air conditioning system. Tom was on time and very thorough in his walk through. Tom also scored highly by pointing out something that needed to be done to our secondary heat pump system - something that we could do on our own without help. The project evolved over the course of a week, starting with a basic replacement and moving up market to the most efficient system Trane could offer. Tom was very responsive to our requests for bid modifications. Hannabery was clearly the more competitive of the two Trane bidders. At the end of the day our decision came down to Carrier [another bidder] vs. Trane [Hannabery.] Had that decision gone in favor of the Trane products, we would have awarded the project to Hannabery without hesitation.
Description of Work: No actual work was performed. The bidding experience inspired such a high degree of confidence, not to mention competitive pricing, that we think Hannabery deserves a sincere recommendation. If you are in the market for a Trane HVAC system, then you owe it to yourself to give Hannabery a serious look.

They are a very good company. They took out all the electric heat because it was getting out of control with the price. The new hot water heating system is very good and very efficient; it may be about 45% efficient. The people that did it were really great. They are the kind of people you would invite to your house for dinner after they did the job; specially the 2 guys who came to install. They were recommended by a neighbor and I would recommend them to anybody in the neighborhood.

The saleman arrived on time and was courteous and professional. He examined our existing equipment and did calculations based upon our home size, etc., to determine what we would need to have installed. I gave him our email address so he could send the proposal the next day. He also offered to mail information. The next day, no response. Another day, no response. Another day, no response. At this point I called and asked for the information, but the sales guy was away from the office. I did receive an email sent at 1pm with an apology because he said the internet was not working in the office. I feel that it would have been more professional for someone to contact me when they said they were going to, and let me know that their internet wasn't working. They had my phone number. I do not feel they are being 100% honest about why I was not contacted in a timely manner. I stopped at their offices when I was out, and got a copy of the proposal. Their prices were competitive with other companies, and they offered more than one name brand.

The sales call to my home, discussions on manufacturer and model options, follow-up questions, and written estimates were all handled in a timely and professional manner. Since I was interested in energy efficiency, they were very helpful to explain the energy efficiency rating systems and the ratings of the various models. All installation details were handled to my complete satisfaction. They handled warranty registration and assisted my in applying for a rebate with my electric supplier. The phone calls I made with questions were all handled in a timely manner.

It included the main compressor, air handler with back-up resistance electric heat, and a new air filter and programable temperature controller. I have used Hannabery for HVAC service in the past. They diagnosed a problem with our 12 yrs old york heat pump and after deciding that the repair cost were well beyond what we were willing to put into the unit we decided it was time for a new unit.Tom came out and was able to find a unit that would fit in out very limited space. Everyone that we worked with during this process from the repair technicians to the installers were on time, pleasant to work with and conscientious of working cleanly. They did an excellent job of replacing the outdoor unit and even edged the new pad they put in with crushed rock. It looks nice.
