Josh loves to talk but never delivers. He rarely showed up when he said he would. His dad and brother did the work. We paid him 80% of the money and he's only done 50% of the work (if that) before quitting for personal reasons. Would not recommend this guy at all.

Great! We had 5 estimates and Josh's had most detail and was middle of pack price wise. He just did a bathroom for a friend and they were very pleased. I do most of my own home improvements so I can be fussy, but we needed this to get done quickly to accomodate an elderly family member. Josh started on time and did great work- gutted and rebuilt all. Only subcontractor he used was his dad Dave, who has his own business, does great work and obviously taught Josh well. For a relatively young guy Josh is a true craftsman. Really takes the time to do things right. You'd think he was paid by the hour rather than the job. In the end (4wks) we had a fantastic new bathroom and I'd highly recommend Josh to anyone. (He even picked gravel tile off the backing mesh to lay it all out how he thought looked best! Little things matter.). Also were very accommodating when needed. Thanks Josh and Dave!

Josh and his crew did a great job of installing our new shower. When they were finished for the day they always cleaned up. They showed up when they were supposed to.

Josh Hein is a very knowledgeable and creative contractor. He suggested a number of possibilities that had not occurred to us, and they contributed substantially to the quality of the bathroom renovation. He is an excellent tile installer and the wall and floor tile patterns are works of art. Josh was highly consultative during the planning and installation phases, and is very responsive to email inquiries and correspondence. His work is very reasonably priced and he follows through to make sure that all aspects of are done correctly. I highly recommend him.

Josh gave me an estimate in a few days. I asked him to postpone the work for a month. He did with no problem. He and his dad showed up on time, worked hard and finished the job in 5 days. Scraping, then patching, then skim coating, then sanding and skim coating and sanding and priming and sanding two large rooms.. The house was built in 1927, the walls and ceilings were in pretty bad shape...Now the rooms are beautiful and ready to paint. He has done several jobs for me. Always prompt, personable and efficient. The price is reasonable.

Josh is a busy man, was so happy when we found out he was available to do our main hallway bath (this is the second bath Josh has done for us). We had to wait a bit, but he is worth the wait to get it done right. With Josh doing the work, you know it is done right he is a perfectionist. Care is taken in protecting your home during job and cleaning up at the end of each day. Josh's workmen are his family and they are great, you won't be disappointed with any of them. I will try to post pics in the near future when I am done accessorizing the room. It is a masterpiece and I am very proud that it is my bathroom.

It did not go well. Josh told me it would take about a week to complete my renovations. Four months later the job was completed. First he miss calculated the flooring for the kitchen and had to order a new box. It seemed like it took forever for the box to come in, it was coming from Home Depot, I could have gotten the same day if I drove to Home Depot, but that was his job, not mine. The tile work in the bathroom is very nice and the best thing from my remodel. I pulled money out of a high interest account and lost interest due to the four months for completion, remember it was to take a week (that's five working days). The strips on the floor did not match, one (the first one laid) was very nice and the other two should match. Well, the next two did not match and looked extremely cheap. The replacement strips still do not match, but better looking, so now I have to live with it until I get new carpeting. The bathroom paint was not dry and the paled back accidently by my housekeeper, Josh promised to repaint on his next stop to my home, after about a week, as Josh never came by, my son painted the stop so I could finish putting my furniture back in the bathroom. Upon completion was I surprised to see the added charges. I was charged over double I should have been charged and I was generous with allowing monies for the dishwasher and range and the front door flooring. The major problem was the kitchen flooring as it was lifting and several people started to trip on the floor, Josh refused to believe there was a problem, even after his dad admitted there was a problem. October 11th I finally got the floor fixed. Four months is way to long to wait for work to be completed. Please see my letter to Josh: Enclosed please find my final check to you. I have made adjustments to your charges as follows: Adjusted Amount Your Amount Remove old dishwasher, install new dishwasher $ 25.00 $ 60.00 Really you took the dishwasher for an apartment Install new customer provided gas stove 25.00 35.00 Really you had to take it out for the flooring Run wire for added receptacle for stove to plug in 60.00 60.00 Extend gas line lower and install shut off valve for stove 85.00 85.00 Install laminate flooring by front door 25.00 90.00 Cost of extra box of laminate flooring for front door 26.91 126.48 Install one added custom build wall cabinet 30? x 30? 150.00 375.00 And filler strip $ 396.91 $ 831.48 I must say it was quite a disappointment to see all of those extra charges. I did not receive a credit for the box of tiles you returned from the bathroom. There was no added box of tiles for the front door area as your dad used the remaining tiles from the box of tiles he had to get to finish my kitchen. For a project that was going to take a week at most ended up to be a four month ordeal. Really, you way under delivered on this renovation. The original quote/contract included a 30? x 30? cabinet, you measured for it as I was putting the microwave on the new counter. The original quote/contract also had the front door area included, you also measured for that. Really a 3? x 3? space does not cost what you charged for the tiles and labor. I used the average for labor cost per hour according to what I pay a contractor (who goes all over the United States) that works on the building I work at. You and my son determined I should hang the microwave after you gave me the quote, as it was when you came for the cabinet door to make the new cabinet. The additional cabinet charge should have been for a 12" x 30" cabinet and that cost is reflected. You did not include a refund due me for the box of tile you returned, and I did not charge you for the interest I lost waiting the four months to complete my job.

After receiving estimates from a number of contractors, we determined that the majority of them were uninformed, had no expertise and/or little interest in tackling a true Design Forward bathroom renovation. Josh Hein of Custom Remodeling installed a Tuff-Forn curbless shower that is state of the art for accessible Design Forward Bathroom construction which allows older individuals to remain in their home in a safe bathroom environment. He also expertly installed grab bar/towel racks that serve a duel purpose and are both decorative and incredibly strong at the same time. My wife quipped that if we have a tornado, she's going to run to the shower and hang on the "boomer" bars because it's the strongest part of the house. He is very detail oriented and is a perfectionist. He solves problems that arise in renovation work with a deliberate approach and involves the homeowner in every decision. In addition to the technical experise that Josh exhibited, he has an excellent eye and is an installs tile perfectly. His picture frame wainscoating is a work of art. The bathroom is not only practical, but also incredibly beautiful. Josh Hein, owner of Custom Remodeling, is a very impressive young man who more than met our expectations. He has an impressive work ethic, pays great attention to detail and we felt completely confident in his expertise. We would not hesitate to hire him again and give Josh our highest recommendation. Josh responded within a day or so of my request for an estimate. I received the estimate in less than a week. He is very busy so it took several weeks to get the projects started. He and his dad and his uncle did the work. They were professional and pleasant. The ceiling and the porch look great! I would definitely hire them again.

Our 27 year old bathroom from 1986 needed a "whole lot of love." Our modest 1600 sq ft home with two growing kids challenged this only full bath. After our kids were out of college, we finally had some funds to renovate and Josh did a wonderful job! We are so pleased and expect to have him do future work in our home. Josh was professional and gave a reasonable estimate for work to be performed. His crew did a great job and were easy to work with. My old tiled tub surround was leaking, but I couldn't afford to gut all the tile in the room and replace everything. Josh replaced the failed tile with a new tub and fiberglass surround as I wanted, then had the tile put back so it still looks nice until I can remove the rest of it at a later date. I find that a lot of times contractors want you to do a big job, and when you want something smaller done they either aren't responsive or they treat you like you have a small job, and it isn't important. Not Josh, or his crew. I would definitely hire Josh again.

We were very discouraged. My wife and I spent alot of time researching this company and there reviews, after which we put our faith in making the move to contact them. WE WERE LET DOWN. Angies list is a great way to find contractors to do work on your home but dont get your hopes up too high, because in all you can still be let down the same as any other way you find them. We will try not to let this example ruin our experience. BE AWARE as described in there job descriptions as doing additions . THEY DO NOT DO ADDITIONS.

It didn't. The business never retuned two phone calls.

The job went very well. Removed the old tile shower and walls, replaced the plumbing, re-sheeted the walls, tiled , installed fixtures. Josh would have had the work done in about 1 week if I could have been there.

The project went very well. Josh is very meticulous and is good at what he does. We had to wait 3 months from the estimate until the beginning of project but that was fine. He is very busy and does most of the work himself but the quality is worth the extra time. We would definitely call him for future projects.

We hired Josh in early spring for our kitchen/bath remodel. He did such a wonderful job (see my earlier review) that we hired him again! We trust him with our home! He works until the customer is happy! He bent over backwards to please us... AND ... We are pleased. Josh pays attention to detail, his work ethic is most impressive, and he knows what he is going. His prices are reasonable. He honored the coupon I printed from his Angie's List page, even though I am a returning customer. Our foyer and fireplace never looked better. The new tile ties in with the earlier kitchen remodel, bringing the entire protect together. Josh custom made floor transitions for the fireplace tile, matching the stain from our hardwood. Next project for Josh will be the master bathroom. If you are looking for quality work, give Josh a call. He is becoming very popular though, so schedule now!

very knowledgeable, prompt, polite

We could not be happier with the work Josh Hein and his helper Dennis did. From the first day we knew we had made the right choice in hiring him. Don't be fooled by his age, he is a master at everything he does, he listens to what you want and makes it happen without any fuss! His ceramic tile work is outstanding down to the smallest detail. Speaking of details, Josh is all about them. Whether it is mixing a special grout color to get the color you want or changing all the hardware on our bathroom door so it matched the fixtures in our bath. When he first started the job, his first priority was taking the precaution of covering all the floor and carpeting from the front door to the master bath. Josh was very respectful of our home, he had the rooms cleaned every day before he left the site. Josh listens to what you want an comes up with a solution to any wants or changes we made along the way. If you are fortunate enough to schedule Josh to do work in your home, you are hiring a highly skilled workman that is as close to a perfectionist as I have ever seen. I have had many comments on my bath and how outstanding the final product turned out. I feel like I am in a resort spa every time I go in, it is that nice. Many of the ideas came from Josh, and they always turned out great. If there was any way I could give him a triple A rating, I would without a doubt!

Josh was always on time, worked in our home while we were at work, courteous, reasonably priced, good craftsmanship.

We had a very poor experience with this contractor. The work we requested consisted of demo and prep work and installation of kitchen cabinets, light electrical and plumbing and appliance installation. Here is a list of the issues we encountered: 1.) The contract called for installation of tile back splash, however he did not tile the entire area and we now how a bare spot in one of the areas with exposed dry wall (unfinished item #1) 2.) At the border of the tiled back splash, there is an electrical outlet with a plastic cover. Instead of either extending the tile an inch further or using a smaller outlet cover, he actually cut a regular sized cover to fit the area. This is something I have never seen anywhere...an outlet cover that is cut with a saw to trim off one side so that it fits within the border of the tile. 3.) The ceiling and any other area that was to eventually be painted was to be prepped for painting. He left the ceiling unprepared so that the painters will need to sand and prepare, costing us more money (unfinished item #2) 4.) We purchased high end white cabinets for installation and areas where he scratched the wood during installation were repaired with white out (the kind you buy at Staples) 5.) There has been a leak to the drain line and the faucet since installation (unfinished item #3) 6.) The microwave oven short circuited due to proper installation and had to be replaced 7.) Several outlets trip the circuit breaker, even though we have gas appliances and use very few electric gadgets in the kitchen 8.) The range, refrigerator and the dishwasher were never completely installed (unfinished item #4) 9.) The cabinets were improperly installed despite our attempt to help by introducing him to the dealer who sold the cabinets to us. There were spacers that came with the cabinets that should have been installed in order to create a proper distance between cabinets and prevent the doors from hitting other areas of the cabinets when opened. We now live with having to open several cabinet doors very carefully in order to avoid damaging them. 10.) As per our agreement, lights were supposed to be installed in the dinette area of the kitchen and he did not do so. There is currently no light above our dinner table (unfinished item #5) 11.) Partially through this job, we requested removal of a shelf in our family room, a job that required a couple of hours of work. The result was a permanently damaged hard wood floor due to something heavy falling on it. He admitted that the damage was due to his own poor judgment in not laying protective material on the floor, but all we came away with was a couple of shrugged shoulders and an "oh well" for our troubles as well as irreparable damage to a custom floor. In the end, we are left with unfinished work as listed above in items 1, 2, 4, 7 and 9 and poor workmanship in the other items. We paid as agreed for the initial stages of work on time. He continues to demand final payment from us, but we are not willing to do so until all items are finished to our satisfaction and we are in the process of hiring an attorney to resolve this matter for us.

We sat for many estimates. Fortunately, we chose Custom Remodeling. The owner, Josh, is young enough to still have passion for remodeling, with the energy and knowledge to execute customers visions. Josh (and his helper Dennis) worked non-stop. We presented Josh with a major remodel, including many custom features. When something didn't go as planned, like uneven ceilings, he found a way around the problem. Custom should be his middle name. He amazed us with his ability to think on the spot and follow-through. His tile work is amazing. Josh might tell you that he is not a designer but don't believe him. He greatly improved our design for a back-splash. It didn't take long for us to trust him in matters of design. If something needed tweaking, Josh attended to it as soon as it was brought to his attention. This quality is important. You don't want a huge punch list at the end of the remodel or realize at a later date that something was overlooked. Our kitchen is beautiful, our custom pantries, with automatic lighting, is perfect. The powder room is simply beautiful and the hardwood flooring throughout the first floor is stunning, Would we hire him again? Without equivocation, yes! In fact, we did! We hired Josh to lay tile in our foyer as well as re-tile our fireplace. PROS: Excellent work ethic Knowledgeable /Skilled Attention to detail Creative Cleans work area at the end of each day CONS: Project took much longer than expected. One month over end date. Items had to repeatedly be reordered. Communication New floor was damaged when left unprotected. Josh arranged for its repair. One item of note: Confirm that ALL costs are clearly stated in contract. Upon final payment, a new $65. charge was added for moving furniture. This was not agreed upon before we approved additional work/flooring. We were never given the opportunity to decide to move the furniture ourselves. We paid after protest because Josh did work not included in contract and did not charge us. This added charge was very disappointing, but overall, Josh is an honest and trustworthy contractor whom we highly recommend.

The demolition took one day, and all the debris was removed from site. The next two days Josh & Dennis prepped and replaced the plumbing rebuilt the walls, shower stall, and closet. Josh custom built the shower base, and walls. Josh then installed all the tile, painstakingly, and accurately cut by Dennis witch took three days. On the eighth (non-consecutive) day the toilet, sink & lighting fixtures were installed, as was a second coat of paint. Josh & Dennis completely covered & protected our furniture, floors, and rugs, and cleaned up all debris, and dust every day. The results were MAGNIFICENT!!!!!! We couldn't be happier with our new bathroom! JOSH & DENNIS ARE TRULY PROFESSIONALS WHO THE GREAT PRIDE IN THE QUALITY OF THEIR WORK! We have already contracted them to remodel our main bathroom in the fall.

Josh was extremely professional and conscientious in all aspects of his work. After finding him on Angie's list with the coveted award I called for an estimate to tile our main bath. I also discussed how I was unhappy with the kitchen grout as it was too light in color and looked dirty. Rather than regrout he suggested a grout stain to darken the color. He also asked if we had chosen tile for the bath and gave some suggestions of tile dealers that he works with. No pressure to get tile in any of his contacts. I did find a better selection at one of his suggested dealers that I had not considered so we were happy that we checked it out. He was the better of two estimates. I will warn that because he is so good he books up fast so you may need to be patient but he will call back or email and give you approximate scheduling and will follow-up. He worked meticulously and did an excellent job. We love our bath. He came back a week or so later to stain the kitchen grout which came out fantastically. In addition to his professionalism Josh is a really nice person to work with. He really takes pride in his work and wants his clients to be very happy with it. We already have spoken with him about coming back to do some outside carpentry work and will definitely call him when we are ready to remodel our master bath. We have total confidence in his work and reliability. We highly recommend Josh Hein with Custom Remodeling.

I was extremely impressed and well pleased with the work Custom Remodeling completed. Josh is a hardworking, honest young man with a great work ethic. His pricing was affordable and his attention to detail was exceptional. My job was scheduled at an incredibly hectic time for Josh, with the arrival of his first child occurring two days into the project; yet he juggled things beautifully and completed the job with only a slight delay (which I encouraged). He did an outstanding job fabricating and installing cabinets around a new over the range microwave that matched my existing cabinetry. The tile back splash was done perfectly and with great care. Josh, if he was not on site (which was not often), was in constant communication with the guys that were here. I would highly recommend Custom Remodeling and expect that I will be calling upon Josh for several more upcoming projects.
