Contracted Back yard and Beyond in January 2018 to pour concrete foundation and build two car garage with storage loft. A few off things right from the beginning was, they would not set/install the silt fence, that is required for the homeowner to get the proper permits. Which is strange because a silt fence is always needed in the construction phase, whether its before or after permits are drawn, its up to the builder/contractor/person doing the work to provide and install this always.. i was about to cancel the contract for this fact and they came and installed it, but i had to run and buy the silt fence. On delivery of the roof trusses, the driver wasn't paying attention and got the truss top stuck on a curb and he gunned the truck, went over the curb, off the side of my driveway. in doing so, the truck crushed a good 6 foot section. The driver was kind and took pictures of the damage and stated that his boss would take care of it. Things happen , we all know this. So when i called the truss company boss he took no responsibility and also neither did back yard and beyond took no responsibility. Both kept stating " We are not responsible for ANY damage that we caused during the delivery of materials or ANY damage we caused during the construction of the garage to your property or to your home", both companies told me to call my homeowners insurance. Ridiculous, that a company would do that, being the amount of money we are paying for this. When the foundation was being dug/ laid, things were going smoothly, the weather was changing though. I had told David on Monday that the weather is going to be bad on Friday lets not pour the floor that day because of the snow, rain ,sleet forecast on coming, lets do any other day, but i was ignored and the floor was poured on Friday and covered with tarps right after the concrete pour. It snowed and rained the same day. After a few weeks the final slab inspection was done and a good portion of the finished floor was jagged and had rough spots because of the tarps being placed. I bought up my concerns to John and the concrete person came back and laid a epoxy over the entire floor to smooth out when the building was finished. The problem is , I was going to make the garage floor a brown color when it was completed. They did a steel grey and also the floor is so slippery now when it gets wet, its like a slip and slide. If Back Yard and Beyond had listened to me on that Monday and not poured the concrete floor that Friday, this would not have been an issue. Back Yard and Beyond Contracts another company to put up the garage. Those workers work ethic is great . Other than the boss pulling and parking on my front lawn everyday and leaving huge tire marks. Which he had the entire driveway and road to park on. After the building was done, the final inspection was done on the garage, it failed inspection, the railing on the outside stairs leading to the loft (it was way too wide for a hand too grip). So with this, the certificate of occupancy was held up. I called and emailed Back yard and beyond multiple times and did not receive a call for weeks. After , a few weeks, i got a call and was told " those hand rails usually pass, if you want us to come and remedy this you would have to pay additional fees in time and labor". So i explained this to the building department and they could not believe they would not fix there obvious mistake. I really did not want to have to deal with the ignored phone calls, emails ect, just wanted to use the garage. The upstairs loft plywood floor has some very spongy spots, very noticeable when you walk on it, its the wood that was used on the floor, some spots thin. In the end, the garage looks good seems solid, the workers who are on site are great. But, knowing what i know now, i would not contract Back Yard and Beyond again, simply on the fact, they did not finish the garage as contracted to pass inspection and also if they damage your property they will take no responsibility in fixing it, which is a big issue when a project like this is happening.
