the appt was between 12 and 2 pm. jim arrived (w/ abt an hr's) notice at 12:30 and finished just around 2. he explained what he was going to do and why. the previous installation was incorrect on a couple of things: the distance between the wall and the old heater was too far which meant that the distance had to be closed w/ a spacer or another venting hole had to be cut into the roof (thus the new spacer). the previous pressure release was too high and he drilled a hole in the table to allow the pipe for that to go thru and be closer to the garage floor. not as important, the table installed was larger than necessary and took up more room in my small garage than a smaller table would take. he was efficient and patient with my endless questions. he was also tidy.
Description of Work: removed old 50 gal gas wtr heater, old pipes & faucets behind old wtr heater left behind by the plumber who repiped my plumbing abt 7 yrs ago, installed a spacer between wtr heater & then installed the new 50 gal gas wtr heater.

The technician (Scott) was late both to call me back to schedule an appointment and again the day of service. He promised he would arrive within a two hour window. Not only did he miss the window, but he did not bother to call me to tell me he would be late. He had my phone number and all I had for him was the number for the useless dispatcher. When Scott finally arrived (two hours late), he made it clear he was behind schedule and in a hurry. Scott filled the bathtub with water and said it was not a problem with the water heater. He resisted my requests to inspect the heater, burner, and ventilation. When I insisted, he poked at the water heater for a couple of minutes and rushed off to his truck to write up the bill. While I understand the need for a minimum service charge, I was disappointed that after waiting four hours for him to show up, I was charged $90 for a 15 minute inspection. While Scott did seem knowledgeable, it was clear he rushed through my appointment so he could get back on schedule - at my expense.

The heater now works again flawlessly, and we are no longer at risk for carbon monoxide poisoning. Randy scheduled the work for the day after I called to tell him that the work space was clear for access. He always takes time to explain what is being done - which makes it easy for me to have things ready for an efficient job.
Description of Work: The main burner of our high-efficiency water heater failed to come on although the exhaust blower did run. Randy had previously let me know that the old vent pipe was out of code and actually dangerous since it could leak flue gasses into the room. On this call Randy removed the faulty vent and replaced it with code-compliant PVC pipe. He also cleaned and lubricated the blower chamber and impeller.

Woke on a Saturday to cold water. i tried to light the pilot and it would not stay lit, instructions on heater to relight directed that after several attempts if pilot light wouldn't stay lit, to turn off and call technician. I googled this issue and found several answers stating likely cause was thermo coupler. Since I don't do home repairs on anything that can potentially blow up, I called Stan the man. I was told that someone was out on call and would call me back. I called at 2:30, I got a return call at 3:15 and Dale showed up as promised at 3:30. By 3:45, the part had been replaced, and Dale was on his way. He was completely upfront about the additional $25 fee for a Saturday service call, when we spoke on the phone. This being a holiday weekend, I was not interested in being without hot water for two more days. Dale was prompt, and courteous. I heard him on the phone with another call before he came into my home, and he was professional with the other customer as well, checking things that would prevent a useless service call. ******* Update, though Dale did fix the problem, he neglected to actually light the pilot light and turn the heater on. I did not go to my basement and check this until 4 hours had gone by with no hot water. I really think that having to lie down on the floor and take apart the heater to check the pilot light and light it myself and turn on the heater was a little silly. I emailed the company about this, but go NO response to my having to do this. I would have liked to feel that they cared, which they did not. I dropped my original rating from all A to an overall C rating. I think that paying extra for a Saturday call, and their service fee and not having the job truly completed is unacceptable. Not following up is also unacceptable. ****** Updating AGAIN! Mike the owner called me today, July 12. He had been out of town. At his return, he found my email and did follow up immediately. He agreed that not lighting the heater was unacceptable, and offered to waive the Saturday service fee as a good will gesture. I think that is a fine gesture for the inconvenience of having to figure out the heater was not lit, and I am satisfied with this vendor. I will use them again when it is time to replace my heater.

I contacted 4 different companies for bids to replace my old 50 gallon water heater. I requested a range of choices from a larger standard water tank to a power vent water tank to tankless systems. Only 2 companies gave me exactly the quotes I asked for. Stan the Hot Water Man was not only the least expensive, Scott the technician was also the most knowledge and helpful. None of the other techs mentioned the need to upgrade the gas meter if I wanted to use a tankless heater (199k btu's is a lot for the small gas meter I had). He was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and anticipated possible issues and problems ahead of time. The install went well, exactly as he described. The work was finished when he said it would be, and for the price he quoted. I would not hesitate to use them again, and would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Removal of old 50 gallon water heater, and installation of Eternal Hybrid tankless water heater. Included gas line installation, coordination of gas meter upgrade with NW Natural, and all required permits and inspections.

My hot water heater was leaking, so I thought it needed to be replaced. Shopped around and selected a new hot water heater from Stan the Hot Water Man. Technician came out and determined that I didn't need a new hot water heater, just an expansion tank, so he installed that and everything is fixed. Saved me a bunch of money! Appreciated the honesty and professionalism of the technician and quality of work. Will use again!

Tech arrived as scheduled and got right to work. He determined there is a problem with the pilot and confirmed this by temporarily installing a new part to verify his diagnosis. I appreciated this approach, as opposed to guessing. He also went ahead and performed needed maintenance and, at my request, removed an old external insulating blanket, which I'm told is no longer recommended for this application. He went on to give me a complete written estimate for the needed replacement part and service call. This service saved me from unnecessarily replacing the water heater. Thanks Damon!

My water heater is in the warranty period so the company's representative told me she'd be mailing me the part I needed. Labor is not included in the warranty, so I called Stan the Hot Water Man to install the part. I was told Brent would be doing the work and that he would call me back within 1 hour to set up an appointment. Sure enough, in an hour Brent called me back. I described the problem as best I could and we set up a time for him to do the work. In our conversation, Brent had sounded a little bit uncertain as to whether or not the problem with my water heater was something he had experience with. I didn't want to spend $94 on a service call if the problem wasn't solved, so I called the company back. I now knew the correct name for the part that needed replacing, and wanted to know if Brent had any experience installing them. Also Brent was very tightly scheduled and I wanted him to know that my own schedule was more flexible than I had originally thought. Brent called back. The message he left thanked me for my flexibility and let me know that he had lots of experience installing circuit boards. Brent was knowledgeable as well as calm, pleasant, friendly and considerate in all our interactions. I really appreciate that he took the time to answer my question. Questions like these often get bypassed, especially when phone messages are the form of communication. The woman who answers the phones in Stan's office was also great to work with. And it was a wonderful surprise to be told that I'd get my call back in only an hour! Most companies take at least a day to return calls. Brent is great and I'm very impressed with this company.

I was looking for the highest efficiency water heater. They explained three different choices from the one I had researched in detail and the differences between them. I selected the Eternal condensing hybrid. It is incredibly efficient, high quality and expensive. They gave me a better price than other similar bids. The installation was extremely clean, professional and neat. When you buy the best equipment it's nice to get a really clean install. This one is perfect.

Our solar water tank failed mid-December. We wanted to replace the old system with new eco-friendly technology and re-locate the water heater from the laundry room to the furnace room. We wanted all of this to be done by the end of December so we could advantage of a $1500 tax credit that was ending on 12/31. Our contractor was able to have the heater we wanted shipped to Portland, plumb the gas line and have it inspected, and install the new waterheater by the end of the year deadline. Our service person, Kyle, kept us informed every step of the way. The pricing for the job was very competitive.

I needed to have a hot water heater moved so some water proofing work could be done in the basement. Since we already had someone come out to move it we decided to replace it. The folks at Stan the Hot water man were flexible and easy to work with. They came and took the old water heater away then waited for the waterproofing work to be done before installing a new water heater 2 days later. They installed new earthquake straps which the old water heater did not have. Now we cane take longer showers and hopefully our energy bill will go down.

He was very professional and got to work right away. He was knowledgeable and kept us updated in the process of finding a hot water heater that would work in our maufactured home. He informed us of the cost and shipping charges once the correct water heater was found. A couple months later, we needed to have them come back out because there was an issue with the fittings. We paid just over $200 for the second visit.

Very well. We would definitely refer our friends/neighbors to Stan the Hot Water Man.
Description of Work: We wanted to replace our aging water heater before it caused problems. Scott came out on time and discussed in great detail the options: standard tank and tankless, enabling us to make an informed decision. We thought we wanted tankless until he explained all the cons as well as the pros, and we opted for a standard tank. He sent us the quotes, we made an appointment for installation, and he came on time and installed it in the amount of time he said it would take.

Excellent! Smooth transition. Scott was the plumber and he was GREAT! It took about a week to schedule in the work and then only about 2 days of actual work to complete it. Scott left the place in wonderful and clean condition. The tankless water heater is fabulous - it never runs out of hot water and the savings on the gas bill are noticeable. With the rebates and tax credits the whole thing only cost me about $1900. I'm VERY HAPPY!! SCOTT at Stan the Hot Water Man is THE BEST!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! A+++++

Needed a new water heater. Couldn't replace with the same style that was originally in house, a low-boy 66 gallon. Scott came out and advised us what was possible and the costs associated. As a very particular customer and engineer, I usually have a hard time getting a technician to do things to my satisfaction. In this case, Damon exceeded my expectations and proved to be very cooperative and easy to work with. This company has an unusual way of handling customers. After contacting the office, a technician is assigned, who calls the customer back directly, between jobs. The customer then works directly with the installer to select equipment and explain their needs. The installer schedules the work, based on the customer's need and his own schedule, almost like an independent contractor. It works well. The service was timely, the workmanship excellent, the price very competitive, and the outcome exceeded my expectations. When finished the area was cleaned up and the installation looks really high quality with top quality parts used happily, and at no extra cost. The technician was happy to work methodically until the project was complete and done right. The only rough spots were that the technician came across as a bit gruff over the phone in the initial contact, and he missed a measurement for a hole drilled in the concrete to attach the strapping by an inch.
Description of Work: Damon replaced an 18 year old failing 80 gallon water heater located in the basement. As part of the project he also upgraded the plumbing connections to eliminate some steel pipe, making all the connections with brass and copper fittings, and attached the heater to the wall with earth quake strapping to meet current code requirements. The old water heater was removed and discarded.

Single installer came out. About an hour later than appointment. Took quite a lot longer than anticipated because of tight fit in garage near furnace and the complication of pipes and electrical from that furnace being in the way of the water heater. There was some difficulty with the installation and we had to call for a follow-up visit. Owner Mike was very responsive and got installer back out within a few days. Installer was on time for second visit. Price was adjusted and we were satisfied. I had called 6 companies in the area and "Stan" came in with the best bid to begin with. We felt we got a decent value in the end.
