They kept me informed of the laptop's progress and even helped with an issue on another laptop I was having when I went to pick the computer up. Price of repair was less than initially quoted. I've worked with James and Marcus over the years. Efficient and cost-effective.
Description of Work: Replaced a keyboard on a laptop; debugged the laptop; installed virus protection; etc.

I've used The Service Department so many times and for so many years that I've lost track. They've been in business for three or four years and are increasingly busy, have added employees, so I'm thinking they have other happy customers, too. I never hesitate to refer people to them for computer and related questions and services. Am invariably thanked by my referred friends because of The Service Dept.'s. excellent attitude, helpfulness and overall good work. Which is not to say, of course, that there are not bumps, because computer service and maintenance is a terrifically complicated thing. But they've unfailingly taken me through to the end with courtesy and helpfulness, despite me being so obtuse about what I'm describing or asking or what they're saying/suggesting or doing. They've done a number of things for me, including but not exclusively, removing and resetting things for me after malware or virus infections. After which I've installed the AV and malware programs they've suggested. A couple of times I got myself in trouble by changing settings or trying things that got me all balled up and they've brought me out of it. Once I complained that since my system was several years old, I should get a new one, shouldn't I, instead of trying to fix the current mess I've made? Well, no, says Marcus, you know what you've got here is really quite alright. But then one time I wanted to go from XP to Win7 and he took care of that. He's helped me add memory and all that. But of course I was really looking for an excuse to buy a new computer :-). Which I've gone ahead and done a couple of times. And in mentioning that I'll also add here that Marcus has been good and even-handed about brands. Not that he recommends something specific, but as I mention a brand name or two or three, he's good about saying which he's had in most for repairs, or issues with this or that, or that this or that brand/model seems good to him. Oh, and I've added memory chips and things a couple of times, and since The Service Dept is just blocks from Fry's, if he doesn't have what he needs, I just run over to Fry's, buy what Marcus says is required, bring it back and he puts it right in. Now, how is that for service? They can help in person, over the phone or by remote and quot;team viewer.and quot; The cost is **super reasonable. Check the schedule on their website. But the service isn't and quot;cheapand quot; in terms of quality. They can also come to where your computer is, but I've not used them for that. I've just taken my tower/laptop/questions/issues into the shop if Marcus isn't able to help by phone or team viewer. Oh, and need used equipment? I got an extra monitor, super specs, for $50. My friend got, inexpensively, a rebuilt laptop to take on trips because she keeps losing hers or having them stolen. The Service Dept.'s hours are great. They're open on weekends, are there from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, Wed thru Sunday, only closed on Mon and Tues. And it's not unusual, if I forget and call on one of the closed days, that Marcus will answer the phone and help out anyway. These are good guys. Geeks, but good guys. :-). I never hesitate to refer anyone to them. The guys are not infallible, they don't walk on water. But they're frank about what they can do or not, what it will cost, they give their best estimate on the time it will take to get the machine back to you, and pretty much get things done by then or earlier. There is another partner, James, but I rarely have interaction with him. Almost always it's Marcus. Seems like he's the main one that comes to the front desk or answers the phone. I learned about them thru our local weekly paper's little article when they first started up. I'm impressed that what began as two young guys having the shop open a couple of days a week while keeping their day jobs has developed into full time for them and the addition of several employees. They're doing something right. Taken all together, I can't recommend them highly enough.
Description of Work: Gave Marcus a call with a question about a setting that wasn't working properly. As usual and in his pleasant manner, he gave me the info I needed and said I should call back if I had further difficulty. He's always like this, even when I interrupt him when he sounds like he's busy. He's not failed me yet in terms of courtesy, helpfulness, ease and quality of service.

I used the most amazing person I have every met to repair my computer! The business is owned by two local guys. One thing I really like is that they are open Wednesday to Sunday. They take Monday and Tuesday off. But when do you usually have computer problems? On the weekend when every body else is closed! I also like that they come to your home, and their prices are ridiculously reasonable. For the last repair, I spent $150, and $100 of that was for software. They get the highest, best grades possible! They are my go to! I am not touching anything without calling them first.
Description of Work: I use The Service Department for computer repair. My business computer got totally wiped. These guys, are the guys, the computer guys, go to when they can't fix something.
